Food › Re: What Language Is "GARRI" ? by Caseless: 7:28pm On Dec 04, 2012
Coldfeet: Story is.... a long time ago during the slave era! Some traders who came to buy slaves were present when their host were having a meal of eba! They were looking at the then strange but now priceless food! In an odd manner which warranted the question iGA'eRRI? Since they didn't understand the language they thought they were being told the name of the food!!! Not knowing they were being invited to dinner!!!! If you think this is false pray tell us how the name came about!!!
oboi, see history! Cold are u a historian? How come u know all this? U might be right sha......

If gej was aware of this, i'm sure the man wouldn't have said nigeria is largely safe. Where is safe again when we have the enemies right in our system. Gej should knw that nowhere is safe, including presidential villa with this kind of revelation. And maybe this pple are bringing up this story so we can all believe that the terrorist did not beat their CHECKPOINT right at the gate and to show they are not weak to the extent of letting such an attack take place in their cantonment...who knows. Nigeria? Smh....

Coldfeet: Garri is IGBO!!! Corrupted version of Iga erri? Meaning will you eat?
for weye? How does that question in igbo relate to name of garri? U can also tell me abachah is also a corruption of 'will u dance?' Na all of us get dat name, no jst monopolise am abeg.
Food › Re: What Language Is "GARRI" ? by Caseless: 6:03pm On Dec 04, 2012
That name is nigerian-supported like the pidgin english. That name 'GARRI' is a symbol of national unity and can also represent the hidden relationship in our diversity.

If there is anything common to nigerians ,apart from our national football team , is garri and as such it should be respected as a national symbol within/outside nigeria, and also on nairaland...cos any moderator banning us for being pro-garri is against our national symbol....ofcourse, u knw what that amounts to.

No language own that name abeg, it belong to all of us as nigerians.

I love garri , i'm ready to uphold her honour and glory....so help me GOD!

Oh my God! I'm not advocating for any half-baked guy like the one u voted for in the last election. Com'on, are doubting all the attributes i outlined are seen among nigerians? So u think everybody in this country is like any half-baked guy leading the country or holding any public office? Do have a rethink....bro
anonimi: Your post is PATHETIC to say the least but it shows why we are so backward as a group/society/country.
In short what you are saying is that it is easy for any half-baked Hassan, Nnamdi or Tunde to rule us rough shod once he has a little courage and can bury his concsience very deep. Have you heard that Nigeria is the best places to become rich quick and easily huh

The above must be a joke, right huh
The leadership is not drawn from Nigerians as in they are imported?
They are not voted for by Nigerians?
They are not family members of Nigerians, former school-mates of other Nigerians, church/mosque/shrine goers with other Nigerians ?

Continue shifting the blame on some leaders that you think are remote. Hope you know that the LG Councillor in your area is also a leader just as the State House of Assembly member representing your constituency. . . assuming you know them!
are u saying most of our leader got to their various positions by popular votes? Do u think our votes count? Yeah, no doubt those so called leaders were once part of us , but there is an outright disconnection once they are voted to a particular position between them and the people that voted them in...who do we blame for that? There is a wide gap between us and our leaders, so we can never get it right until that gap is bridged. If those leaders got there by election and not by selection, we wldn't have been where we are today.... They dont get there by our votes, so they don't care about us.....u knw this....bro.

saxywale: Haha...it seems you have tried starting up ventures. The amount of bottlenecks created by ministry workers is enough to hate the country. They most times demand for bribe that is times 5 of the original cost of approval of license to operate. But we can only blame ourselves, since some of these officials are our family and friends. There is so much corruption right from the presidency to the LGA's. Nigerians are not lazy abroad. They work harder than nationals of their host country and they are rewarded well.
thank u for this observation my bro! I heard a multi-national company owned by an american last time indicting officials frm Ministries of over-taxing and too much bribe......and somebody stil expect me not to blame the gov't. Virgin nigeria, u remember that partnership? Virgin left this Country for thesame reason. If u knw what nigerians go thru abroad to make ends meet, u cant say they are lazy pple any more. LGAs are jst inactive or dormant .....no autonomy, so nothing is working. Corruption everywhere mehhnnnn.....smh

moonraker: Believe it or not

but NL??

Is a true reflection of what the Bleep is

wrong with Nigeria!!! Now that being said,

wait for peeps here to rain abuses on me!!!
no! U haven't said anything to warrant abuses...nairaland na e-version of nigeria.
Nairaland General › Re: Why Do Fellow Nairalanders Bully Other People By Insulting Them? by Caseless:
That's a known trend on this forum...they don't correct u or offer any constructive advice, but display anathema when u stick to ur idea and belief.
U'd be shocked that the person insulting u for making contribution has nothing to contribute more than the insult he/she is ready to give u for making ur own contribution to a particular topic.

We all can't get along cos our opinion on several issues differs, and so many people don't knw how to handle this difference in opinion. .

The goodnews is that nairaland is the e-version of the real nigeria/nigerians you see out there, so if if I can live in nigeria and with nigerians against all odds, why can't i live on nairaland?

Sis, say what u wanna and don't be cowed by their bullying...don't let it get to u...simple. No matter how bitter ur post may look or taste, bring it out so long that's the truth and how u feel about a particular issue or topic.

Oga mi, how u take get ur own dada, na natural one abi na awilo style?
What can NIGERIANS do for NIGERIA??
Goverment cannot solve all papa Nkechi, mama yemisi and mallam Hasan problems.
So how do we move forward??
thank u for this wonderful question. You see, nigerians are naturally patriotic and generous towards nigeria, if not for the distortion caused to that aspect of our lives by poor leadership we've suffered from over the year.what nigerians need is not much; give them constant power supply, good roads and water...and u'd shocked at the kind of return u will see them giving back to this country. Nigerians are modest, thankful, easy to guide, happy, religious, patriotic, enterpreneur, hustlers, brilliant ,etc, I think this is all u need in a population of a country to get the best frm them...but poor leadership have prevented us from taking advantage of these attributes u find among nigerians.so, we can move forward when we get our leadership right.
