yes. Let me narrate a story to you. In my course of surveying last time, I met a Hausa man in his shop and adressed him as " mallam, salam Alaikum" and, he said to me: "ni ba mallam bane, almajiri ne ni(meaning, I'm not a mallam, I'm still an almajiri(meaning he's still learning and not teaching)". This scene was jokingly played out at that point in time. This said shop owner I had this encounter with is in his 30s. So if being an almajiri is restricted to age and not level of Islamic knowledge, then this man shouldn't have identified himself to me as one. What am I trying to say? Being an almajiri is not age-dependent.


Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi (a popular cleric in the north) is referred to "almajirin sheikh Ibrahiminyass" ( meaning , he's sheikh Ibrahim's student).
