SirShymex:
Thanks castrogee and NairaMinted.

Missy89 is a good e-friend, and hopefully, she will come back on thread, and let's kiss and make-up. I just don't agree with a lot of things she posited because I see them as US propaganda, and rightly so. And if you're conversant with alternative sources, and opportuned to always read scholarships from European academics - you will understand America's folly in always trying to twist history to fit into this pseudo-exceptionalism.Thus painting blue as black and red as green. However, the decision makers in Pentagon and Washington know better. Hence they'll always threaten in the media, but end up looking for a back-door secret deal to save face.

Furthermore, I somewhat have interests in the rise of super powers in the far east, especially China and Russia. And as a black man, and an African - anything to tilt the balance in world politics and provide an alternative to the Anglo-American/Zionist domination is something we should all be praying for. Because for 3rd world countries to ever have a chance in making progress, there has to be a paradigm shift, a change in consciousness, and a new world order - in form of a bipolar or multipolar world, to free a lot of things. Too many countries have been stifled by Anglo-American domination, and no sane person would pray for the status quo to remain the same forever. A free and more balanced world is everyone's prayer.

China is definitely on the march to make that happen, and no amount of propaganda can stop the sleeping giant from taking over. Say what you want about its style and system of government, but that's what made China great today. And what has been able to keep it as one. It worked and is working for China, and it has been able to keep the country as one - despite the dark colonial past of Chinese holocaust, in which divisions made them lose over 200 million people.
The bolded is what I think every black person should be concerned about most especially Nigerians. I know for sure that the west and the east are not our friends - forget their pretenses. They are afraid of our potentials and might never want us to rise; so anything that will break their ranks and and conspiracy against Africa and engender true capitalist competition in global sphere is welcomed by me.

Though it appears missy is so sure of Americas absolute political dominance, that she tends to see other countryies advances as paper tiger. For me I think the points raised by shymex and nairamint show their depth of understanding in the evolving politics of the 21st century.
On a final note I believe we will witness a paradigm shift in the world's political landscape.

Foreign AffairsRe: Putin Threatens World War 3, Says Russia Could Invade Europe Within Two Days by castrogee(m): 11:36pm On Sep 23, 2014
Missy89: I disagree with this analogy completely. War is always about borders. that's what gave birth to Geopolitics and Sphere of Influences. That is why Ukraine is what it is today between the major powers. that is Why Crimea was taken. The 28 countries is just a symbol. NATO is america/Britain. What do you think Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, etc can bring to the table when hostilities starts? most of them don't even have up to 20k standing/Battle ready troops.

Russia doesn't have huge interests outside its borders and since the fall of the Soviet Union. The only place where there are huge interest is out of NATO's reach (Central Asia)

The country do have the capability to force a cease fire/military victory in Eastern Europe and the Baltic. NATO cant invade Russia either because of the manpower and logistics that would be involved. so lets say hypothetically, A Russian conventional invasion is checked in Eastern Europe and they are retreating, NATO would not risk a full scale invasion instead that would prefer to cut their loses and regain their own territory and agree on a Status quo ante bellum. There there different types of nukes. ICBMs AND SLBMs are usually reserved for a thermonuclear war or first/second strikes. there are other nukes like tactical nukes or battle field nukes that can be used in a conventional war that would not have huge fallout even if it is close to your territory. Russia have been deploying these for a long time and the have more of it as compare to NATO (5 times as much) they are not as long range but are mobile.

Your second paragraph.

There is only one way to invade Russia and that's from the West. there is no NATO in the east and let just say for argument sake that Russia is invaded from the East, what would be the objective? The east is a dense forest with a very harsh weather and less than 10% of Russia's Industry and population. The invading force would probably stretch itself thin and starve before they reach Russia's industrial core in the west and there is only one road than leads the east to west so that makes it easy to predict (Trans Siberian railway). so it is basically suicide. because it would be a guerrilla war

Third paragraph

How would Georgia be invaded exactly when there are over 20k Russian troops inside the place? where would NATO land their troops? they would have to cross the black sea to the other side and there is a huge Russian naval presence there. and apart from Sochi, all the strategic towns on the black sea are military towns, (Rostov von don, Sevastopol, novorossiysk etc!)

The North sea would Already have their hands full fighting the Baltic fleet in Kaliningrad Oblast (a small Russian enclave between Poland and Germany) Remember, Russia isn't a naval power at all but their naval doctrine is to deter, no to attack (that's why they have the best anti ship missiles)
Taking Moscow doesn't guarantee anything. that's what Napoleon thought too but the Russians burnt Moscow down and retreated to the Urals and kept on fighting. besides, for it to get to that point, the ICBMs would already be flying.

Last Paragraph

The Germans did not loose because of the New front opened by the Allies. Germany was in retreat in 1942 and the allies landed on the beach in 1944. In fact, Stalin was angry with the allies because they promised him that they would open a new front in 1941 instead it was delayed for 3 years. Most soviet generals believed that the front was hastily opened in 1944 so that the soviet union wouldn't take every major city in Europe(which they nearly did).

The Germans lost because of
1. Hitler's interference and the invasion of Belgrade and the Caucasus for economic which slowed down other fronts.

2. German high command under estimated Russia's industrial might and around 1942, they were producing more arms and materials than the Germans have expected in the East.

3. German military planners want to take all of European Russia first and use it as a launching pad against the east. That doctrine was the reason why they did not produce many bombers so there was very little strategic bombing of the eastern factories which kept the Russia war machine alive (plus american deliveries).

The Germans wouldn't even have been that successful if

1. Stalin did not purge most of the Generals from the Soviet military in the early 30s. ( When they even got desperate, they had to release some of their best generals in the Gulags and give them back their posts.

2. Stalin listened to his spies in Europe that warned him of the invasion on time

3. The Russians didn't move to the baltics during the early years of the war. in the late 30s, The Russian main line of defense was abandoned and unmanned they were still constructing new defense on the new border after Stalin grabbed the Baltic states, part of Poland, and Moldova when Hitler invaded.

4. The allies Opened a new front they promised Stalin in 1941

The war was Fought in the Eastern Front and that is where Germany was defeated (over 85% of her army). The German Army group center (Fourth Army, Third Panzer Army and Ninth Army)was basically wiped out in Operation Bagration alone and the proud Germany luftwaffe was non existent at that point. many Divisions were even removed from France to fight in the Sellow heights when the red army was close to Berlin. The only real war the allies fought was in the deserts of North Africa against Rommel's Afika corps and in the Bulge in Belguim. by the time they were doing all those landings the Elite German SS troops where fighting in the east. even Rommel who was to be in charge of the defense in Normandy was on holiday.
Honestly, Missy you are too much!!

I doubt if Putin ever made this statement. It reminds me a similar case where Barroso made claims against Putin, which he later retracted days after, when Putin threatened to expose hm. But the fact remains that Russia has the capacity to invade the countries mentioned by Putin and NOTHING absolutely will happen, except some hot air from NATO.

No country in the world can risk a nuclear war with Russia not even the US. Russia remains the Number one nuclear power in the world.

Methinks we will be fooling ourselves if we think that Americas incursion into Syria will be for the purpose of fighting ISIS. Simply, America wants to use IsIS as a ploy to remove Assad, but predictably they will fail. I was certain that Putin will win the tug of war with the US over Ukraine and true to my predictions the least that will happen in Ukraine is that Donbas becomes a federalized entity and after 10 years or so may vote to join Russia as their partner Crimea did.

This time again, Americas incursion into Syria May be all that is required to start a global war... And I'm certain that just as Iraq it will be a case of oh had we known we shouldn't have invaded Syria.

Foreign AffairsRe: Russian Nuclear Bombers Keep Roaming Closer To U.S. Airspace by castrogee(m): 1:39pm On Sep 13, 2014
@ carefreewannabe,

Sister, I do not have the english or dictionary meaning if a multi polar world, but politically, it is a situation where there are many centers of global activities. Different or many structures of command, it is antithetical of a unipolar world where only one center of command exist and in this case only the United sates calling the shots.

Obviously, examples abound of how the US overtime have manifested its singular authority and forced the entire global comity of nations to accept its verdict. I need not to mention the injustice that belied the war in Iraq and how Saddam was murdered in a cold blood. The world saw what happened and pretended to be busy. Such example shows the inherent abnormality in a unipolar world.

You have asked me what is Russia's role in a multi polar world and why I think the advent of multipolarity is inevitable? I want you to know that Russia is a military SUPERPOWER and there are arguments very valid argument that Russia'S military strength both nuclear and conventional strength surpasses that of the US. If not for Russia's military strength Ukraine would have been a member of NATO. So from the foregoing with its military strength Russia is putting America in check... No longer as America pleases! Ditto china in economic power.

A clear example of multi polarity, America discovered shale oil and subsequently it led to a decrease in her oil importation. Initially, with this kind of development countries like Nigeria will starting having trade deficit but conversely Nigeria is having trade surplus thanks to India. What happened was that immmidiately America reduce its oil Importation from Nigeria, India stepped in and replaced america effectively. Such an example is the blessing associated with multipolarity.

If you need more lecture on this you can go online and search for Putin's Munich speech of 2007. In that speech Putin clearly stated that a unipolar world is not only impossible to practice but that it is dead in today's world. I think that speech was what made Putin to be a chief enemy of the west and must be.... (Your guess is as good as mine)

@ EMANYO1

I've heard a lot of these arguments about the possibility of US thrashing Russia in a military engagement under a republican govt. even though I wouldn't want to call such supposition an outright case of extreme ignorance... I would still prefer to let you know that the military doctrine of a country is not contingent on who the leader is. If USA military doctrine is to fight any perceived enemy it does not matter who is occupying White House. This is USA and not Nigeria, an example, Americas military strategy says - Do Not Negotiate with Terrorists, this is their foreign policy dictates, even if a toddler is the president he won't change the rule.

I also want you to know that in 2008 Russia invaded Georgia backed with all military assurances from the USA yet the Georgian forces fell within four days of fighting, Viola your almighty Bush (a republican president) pretended not to have noticed what happened. In 1999 Russia led by Putin thrashed the Chechen forces in a month though it was backed by the west. You may well read about Vietnam war and Cuban missile crises and find out for yourself what a war between the east and west will look like.

Point is; nobody wants war and I think the greatest mistake America will make is to provoke a nuclear war with Russia, my brother for a truth that will be the end of America. Certainly, a multi polar world is herein inevitable.

Missy89: There are counter measures against the S400 thou minimal since they are mobile (Miniature Air Launched Decoy (MALD)) I still don't think the US air-force would be able to penetrate Russia's airspace because they have a decent air-force and air defense
Good point! But I don't ever think USA will want to engage Russia in a nuclear conflict. For me it doesn't make any sense, MAD is very much an indisputable fact. Have you noticed Putin's body language lately, he seems unperturbed by everything west and he looks ready to tackle the west in every direction. Mehn that guy is a complete badass, I understand that he is make an encroachment into Estonia and is changing the Russia's military doctrine to a pre-emptive strike approach against the USA.

The whole drama is getting bloody scary.. I sincerely pray that my fears do not begin to manifest.

That's where the game is; now!!
PoliticsRussian General Demands Preemptive Nuclear Strike Doctrine Against NATO by castrogee(op): 12:11am On Sep 05, 2014
While NATO is contemplating its existential purpose in a world where the Cold War has suddenly come back with a vengeance, and the military alliance has found itself woefully unprepared to deal with a Russia which no longer accepts the supremacy of the west (appropriately enough NATO is doing this on a golf course) Russia is also strategizing, only instead of issuing "sharply-worded catchphrases" and hashtags, a Russian general has called for Russia to revamp its military doctrine, last updated in 2010, to clearly identify the U.S. and its NATO allies as Moscow's enemy number one. That in itself is not disturbing: we reported as much yesterday and is merely more rhetorical posturing. Where things, however, get very problematic is that the general demands that Russia spell out the conditions under which the country would launch a preemptive nuclear strike against the 28-member military alliance.

Moscow Times reports that Russia's military doctrine, a strategy document through which the government interprets military threats and crafts possible responses, is being revised in light of threats connected to the Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war and the conflict in Ukraine, the deputy chief of the Kremlin's security council told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

That however is the soundbite for politically correct media purposes. Because within the Defense Ministry there are voices calling for different priorities.

"First and foremost, the likely enemy of Russia should be clearly identified in this strategic document, something absent from the 2010 military doctrine. In my view, our primary enemy is the U.S. and the North Atlantic bloc," General Yury Yakubov, a senior Defense Ministry official, was quoted as saying by Interfax.

If this sounds like a statement taken right out of the (first) Cold War, one involving the whole nuclear arms race, is because it is. The 2010 doctrine defines NATO expansion as a threat to Russian national security and reaffirms its right to use nuclear weapons in a defensive posture, but stops far short of declaring NATO as Moscow's primary adversary and laying preemptive nuclear strike scenarios on the table, a posture unmistakably reminiscent of the Cold War.

At the basis of this dramatic escalation is none other than Russia's stated response to what it perceives as a clear expansionary NATO threat.

Yakubov said the information war being waged over the crisis in Ukraine — where the West accuses Russia of arming separatists fighting the government in Kiev — and NATO's announcement that it would establish a permanent military presence in Eastern Europe have validated earlier fears that the alliance's claims of non-aggression toward Russia were insincere.

And the punchline: the general added that special attention should be paid to integrating the functions of the newly created Air and Space Defense Forces with Russia's land, sea and air based nuclear forces. "In addition, it is necessary to hash out the conditions under which Russia could carry out a preemptive strike with the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces," he said.

One can be certain that this is precisely what Russia will do.

So what happens next?

Recall what former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said in November 2008 in his first presidential address to the Russian people: "Russia will deploy Iskander missile systems in its enclave in Kaliningrad to neutralize, if necessary, the anti-ballistic missile system in Europe." An anti-ballistic missle system also known as NATO.

Which it did less than a year ago, long before the Ukraine civil war was headline news every day. This is what happened the last time Russia flexed its nuclear deterrence muscles, in November of 2013.

Russia has stationed missiles with a range of about 500 kilometers in its Kaliningrad enclave and along its border with the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Germany’s Bild-Zeitung reports, citing defense officials it didn’t identify. Satellite images show a “double-digit” amount of mobile units identified as SS-26 Stone in NATO code. Missiles were stationed within the past 12 months. SS-26 can carry conventional as well as nuclear warheads.
This is merely Russia being true to its warning word. From April 2012:

Moscow reiterated on Tuesday it may deploy Iskander theater ballistic missiles in the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad that will be capable of effectively engaging elements of the U.S. missile defense system in Poland.

NATO members agreed to create a missile shield over Europe to protect it against ballistic missiles launched by so-called rogue states, for example Iran and North Korea, at a summit in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2010.

The missile defense system in Poland does not jeopardize Russia’s nuclear forces, Army General Nikolai Makarov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said.

“However, if it is modernized…it could affect our nuclear capability and in that case a political decision may be made to deploy Iskander systems in the Kaliningrad region,” he said in an interview with RT television.

“But that will be a political decision,” he stressed. “So far there is no such need.”
A little over two years later, there is a need.

Which means forget "little green men" in Ukraine. Think massive Russian Iskander ICBM systems planted on the border with Poland, Ukraine, the Baltics and all across Russia Western border, and the furious screamfest this would waterfall into.

We can't wait to see how algos will spin such pre-emptive steps to a very mushroom cloudy World War III..

US just wanna keep Europe as their slaves cos this tit for tat game will hurt Europe 100 times before US will feel it. If I am Putin I will exempt one Eurozone country like Germany or France from the sanction but with a specified tonnage of supply from them to mitigate other sanctioned country coming through them. This will destabilise the already tattered unity in EU. As far as EU is together America will keep on using them to achieve her selfish aim which is always at the expense of Europe. Honestly, what I'm yet to understand is the blind and sheepish EU's obedience to the US... Can't the EU for once be their own voice, from the beginning of this crises it was clear that EU was just a pun in the hand of the US and then I was confident that EU will find its own voice but I was left very disappointed.

Putin warned the EU that sanctions will boomerang on them and ironically Americas second quarter economy grew by almost four percent while those of the EU are nosediving.

The truth of the matter is that this game will be won by Putin, because EU can not afford another recession at this time and fighting between The rebel and Ukraine government will never end against Putin instead Putin will invade the country and just watch as the yanks will quietly crawl back into their hole... After all he did it to the Georgians!
