Absolutely nothing. Making cash payments to assets is something that has been going on for ages. CIA pays cash to key agents and assets and when people find out nothing happens.

Foreign aid is paid out to countries that are known to embezzle it and nothing happens. Giving them the money can be done in myriad ways. It is a legitimate approach to buying influence all over the world.

In the game of politics, when long term interests are at stake, all methods must be employed. The leaders of the countries I mentioned are broke. Giving bribes in the form of raw cash or foreign aid is a normal method of influence in the political world. Please ask around.

I only hope that going forward more emphasis is placed on technology transfer during procurement negotiations.

You should know that OBJ will never forgive him. OBJ has too much to lose to risk Atiku becoming president. If Atikushould ever get into that office, OBJ will be forced to leave Nigeria because Atiku will come for him and he knows it.

This is true, but taking that option would be dangerous. We operate a first-past-the-post electoral system and that system usually produces 2 major parties in any given contest.

Breaking this duopoly is always tough.

His ambition is to be president and not the vice. Yes some people might want to use the debt overhang of Tinapa against him but fact is that it was a very brilliant project which was capable of paying it's way but some retrogressive elements conspired to kill the project after he left as governor.

I know he wants to go for President but with the ticket zoned to the north by PDP and Buhari planning on second term in APC it will be tough. Only way I see him clinching the top job is to settle for vice now and wait till tickets are zoned to the south to push for the Presidency.

I still admire his focus on tourism during his tenure. Cross River is beautiful and he took several steps to boost the tourism industry. I think he pushed too hard with Tinapa but that is just my layman's opinion.

Donald Duke is by far the best performing governor in this political dispensation to date. It will really be a disservice to the nation if he is not allowed to run for president.

Duke is free to run, but his Vice Presidential ambitions are going to be tough to realize. His method of highly leveraged debt to finance projects will certainly be used against him.

To be honest, MDC-T will be better but only in a long term sense. They will be better in the way that South Africa's DA will be better than ANC. Not because they will deliver any real change (MDC-T can't be counted on to do that in the face of entrenched structures), but because competition in the political arena is always better than no competition.

Once power changes hands politicians start to more around more and as a result they resort to mass bribing of the voting population in order to stay in office. That "mass bribing" takes the form of good policies that the people want.

This is all that MDC-T can offer- a step in the right direction. If MDC-T gets into power, it will be because ZANU-PF finally splits up and some ZANU guys migrate to MDC.

It you think about it, the same thing happened in Nigeria with the split of PDP causing APC to win. This is how single-party dominant democracies tend to change.

It is always good to come across informed people.

The Croc has always been the man in the shadows ruthlessly enforcing the policies of the government. This man, is part and parcel of everything that has happened in Zimbabwe since 1980.

There is unlikely to be any real change under this man's stewardship. The elections scheduled for next year will hold, but ZANU-PF will retain the stranglehold on power they have enjoyed. Nothing for MDC for now.

I doubt this man has any will to nudge Zimbabwe towards true democracy. Only if he wishes to cross the entrenched interests and secure a shining legacy will he try to follow the difficult path of reform. I just don't see it happening. Nothing for Zimbabwe for now. Too bad.

It was truly so sad. Atiku had it all in the palm of his hands but he let the snake escape and he has been chasing it for the past 13 years.

Another mistake was him leaving PDP after 2011 primaries. It would have made more sense for him to stay, especially after people like Saraki and Kwankwaso left and supported Jonathan. That would have made him one of the more senior PDP members and he would have the advantage of going for the Presidential ticket in either 2015 or now in 2019.

But all that is in the past. The way I see it, Atiku will have to go all out to win in 2019 and it won't be easy. First of all, the key people in PDP are waiting for him. People like Dankwambo, Shekarau, Lamido, Makarfi and co will rather burn down PDP than let Atiku get that presidential ticket. Overcoming then won't be easy.

The possibility of Kwankwaso returning to PDP is also going to be a challenge for Atiku- let us all remember that Kwankwaso got more delegates than Atiku during 2014 APC primary without spending up to half of what Atiku spent.

In addition to this, South East gladiators who are eyeing 2023 presidency would work against Atiku due to the fear of Atiku going for 8 years should he win the election.

We also cannot forget OBJ who would rather die than let Atiku win presidency.

All things considered, Atiku has his work cut out for him. He will have to work hard to counter all the enemies that will come for him and he will need to do so much to deprogram the population that have been trained to see him as corrupt, even when he is no more corrupt than anybody else.

Take this anywhere, Buhari will win Atiku in the SW with a margin similar to his victory over GEJ, approx 55% vs 45%. Infact, Atiku will struggle to get that 45%.

This is where PDP will seriously feel the impact of the loss of Ondo state to APC.

If they don't play their games properly and call Fayose to order on his planned imposition in Ekiti they will also lose Ekiti to APC. And that will render them a perpetual underdog in SW politics until APC mess up to to extreme.

This is a solid analysis, but I want to ask if you considered that some states in the NE are unlikely to go for APC in 2019, particularly Kogi, Benue and Nassarawa.

This issue of Fulani herdsmen can be used to inflame the populations of those states into voting for PDP, particularly in Nassarawa. In addition to that, the poor response to the recently flooding in Benue can be turned against APC.

Yahaya Bello is hated in Kogi and this might rub off on Buhari as well.

It will be difficult for Atiku to leverage the Fulani herdsmen issue being a Northerner, but Atiku is free of allegations of religious extremism or extreme tribalism so I think it can be done. Or how do you see it?

You have a point about losing Nairaland completely. We all know that he is monitored very closely by security agents and has been known to report to them.

It is one thing to take sides, but I am talking about keeping the site as relevant as possible. If changes can be made to keep quality contributors here, the security agents get a more convenient method of seeing what the people think. It is in thier interest to keep people like SSBN in a place where his activities can be monitored.

It is a tragedy that SSBN has also been faced with the discouraging lack of stretegic thinking that bedevils this country at all levels and has done what many before him have- thrown in the towel.

The simple fact is that Nigeria- if it were under the control of people with strategic vision would act as an engine of grown for all of ECOWAS and would have it's troops stationed in every single ECOWAS country to repel the vicious French.

We have the money, we have the capability, we have the technology to do it. But due to the myopic nature of our leadership, we are lagging behind. Our government fails to leverage our diaspora's knowledge into a truly resilient local defence industry, and we fail to fight for our brothers who are under the vicious yoke of the French.

Yet another Patriot has fallen on Nairaland and like we see in the forest when an Iroko falls, only grass grows in it's place.

Seun, please take note. Your forum is sliding and the seriousness of the contributions has declined significantly. If one looks at the front page these days we see all manner of irrelevant and unimportant posts.

This strategy might drive short term increases in clicks and views, but at a strategic level it will hobble the growth of Nairaland. Nairaland can be a place where those with specialized knowledge of key topics and those with interest in those topics meet and exchange information and ideas.

If we look at Reddit there are areas of the site for more laid back conversation and areas for serious talk. Someone like SSBN filled a niche here and in all honesty has reached a stage where he should have his own section of the site where he can moderate (even if to a limited extent) in order to keep the quality of his own area up to standard.

If that were the case, the asinine statements that demoralized this Patriot would never seen the light of day and Nairaland would be better for it.

Anyone that has been following SSBN would know that this is someone that thinks about the strategic challenges facing Nigeria from our quisling neighbors. They would understand that people like this are in short supply and they need to have an area to speak up where other like minds can form around them and let healthy discussion take place on these topics.

Instead, look where we are now. Ethiopia's military continues to grow while the Chadians are making strategic purchases in order to neutralize our military. Nigeria continues to be demystified and our disgrace continues.

It is indeed a shame.

The issue is simple ,one of law enforcement.The law is not being enforced because a Fulani is in charge of the country.If that continues then we must defend ourselves. The Fulani have been conducting reconnaissance across Nigeria for years so they know everyone's weakness and the lie of the land. Other people need to do the same.They must map out everywhere that the Fulani women and children reside so as to level the playing field that way the question of killing and disappearing will not happen there will be reactions that take the fight to them.

I pointed those things out to show that what they are doing is not new and that it continues to happen. The laws are inadequate and the primitive and inefficient methods that the Fulani use to raise cattle should simply be banned. Also this had been happening for a long time. Even when non-Fulani we're in charge of Aso Rock. Under OBJ the Fulani caused chaos in Jos, and during the time of Jonathan there was blooded Al over the country particularly in southern Kaduna, Benue, Taraba and Nassarawa.

This is about a lack of political will to stop this scourge not just because a Fulani is in Aso Rock. If the President doesn't want to do something the Senate has the power to intervene by either removing the key ministers or even impeaching the President. Same thing at the state level but nobody does anything.

I see things very different from you.

This is not just about grazing but creating a psychic imprint across Nigeria in the minds of people everywhere i.e don't mess with us. Today they are majority in Gombe state .How did that happen? Do you think that cannot happen in Edo or Delta if people are passive. Your idea that they don't want land is not true. It depends . They covet the Mambilla plateau but for the doggedness of the Jukun. They covet the Benue valley and are settled there to some extent.Ditto for Nassarawa . They are not indigenous there but are growing.They coveted and settled in Adamawa so the idea that they don't want land is not true. They are settled in many southern states already and that is what has emboldened them after many years of reconnaissance. That has been their strategy all over West Africa as they spread from Guinea to Nigeria. When it is said they are not indigenous to Nigeria that is a fact not hate and a very successful strategy has seen them spread

The Yorubas too are not sleeping ,I cannot speak for others but we will not go on like this and eventually there will be law and order in our region.

The point that they kill and disappear into nowhere too will not go on for ever. They are not spirits.They have mothers and they have children and patiently we will map out every single place in Nigeria and in neighboring countries where they keep their women and children.

This is the simple truth.

The Fulani are like all other humans- they take what they can get. Even the Americans did it- they exterminated the American Indians and today the original owners of the land are now a small minority that is oppressed. The Chinese wiped out the Zhungar and the Russians wiped out the Siberian Natives. The Australians wiped out the aboriginals and nothing happened.

The simple fact is that the people that are being slaughtered have refused to elect people that care about them. A couple of years ago the people of Nassarawa fought the Fulani and in the end the army was sent to slaughter them. They even beheaded Baba Alakiyo who led the rebellion. Yet no senator or house of reps member said a word.

The elite of Southern Nigeria are feckless and corrupt- they have foreign citizenship for themselves and their children so they don't care about the coming war.

The Fulani will continue to slaughter innocent people until there is political will at all levels to stop them. The governor's don't care- after all the one in charge of Ebonyi was there crying and the one in Benue is silent. They are silent because they do not care. Until the people that are in the line of fire rise up and defend themselves via self help and through the ballot box, the killings will continue.

The people of Nassarawa we're close to ending the madness but Al-Makura rigged his way back into office and today the slaughter continues.

Only when the people take matters into thier own hands and create the leadership they need will they be saved.
