CrimeFather Rapes Daughter, Impregnates Neighbour by catchfun(op): 4:46am On Sep 27, 2015
A 46-year-old man, Morris Ndidwe, has allegedly raped his 11-year-old daughter and impregnated a neighbour’s daughter in Delta State.
The man has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command.
Ndidwe, according to his wife, had made several attempts of having carnal knowledge of his 11-year-old daughter in the past before the last one that landed him in police net.
His wife claimed that her husband’s behaviour had made her quit the marriage initially and that she only returned after several appeals and an assurance that he had repented from his ways.
She said she had initially moved out of her matrimonal home after her husband impregnated their neighbour’s daughter.
She said, “My daughter told me what she went through in the hand of her father whenever I was not around and when confronted, my husband denied, saying, he had stopped the act .
“One afternoon, I returned from church and caught him with our daughter. Again after much pleading, I relented on my resolve to quit the marriage.”
The last straw that broke the camel’s back, according to the wife, was the event that transpired last week.
Ndidwe’s wife said, “Last week, around 9pm, my husband drove me to the church for a vigil. He was alone with our children. The following day when I returned, my daughter told me what her father did to her. When I decided to check her private part my husband refused and almost beat me, but my neighbours intervened.”
But the 11-year-old girl (names withheld) has asked the police to prosecute her father saying she wanted to see him jailed because he might do worse things to her.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the state police commissioner, Alkali Baba Usma, said he had made useful statements to the police.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged man who reportedly went to visit his female friend at Agidaese Street, in Ogwashi-Uku Community of the state was said to have died on Friday.
The man, according to sources, slumped in his girlfriend’s room after a marathon sexual intercourse and died on the spot.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs.Celestina Kalu, confirmed that the woman had been arrested by police in Ogwashi-Uku while the body of the victim had been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

PoliticsResign Now, Labour Unions Tell Saraki by catchfun(op): 4:40am On Sep 27, 2015
Nigerian workers, under the umbrellas of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, have asked the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, to vacate his office pending the determination of his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The workers, who spoke across the country, said although Saraki is still on trial and has not been found guilty of the allegations against him, it is morally right for him to vacate his office as Senate President to defend himself.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation is prosecuting Saraki for alleged false declaration of his assets at the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Saraki had, last Tuesday, stepped into the dock at the CCT in Abuja, where he was arraigned for false assets declaration charges.

He pleaded not guilty to all the 13 charges slammed on him by the CCB and his trial has been scheduled to hold on October 21, 22 and 23.

Leaders of the NLC and the TUC, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday, said it had become necessary for Saraki to step aside from Senate presidency to answer the charges preferred against him.

Organised labour had on, September 10, 2015, held nationwide protests against corruption, while seeking death penalty for public treasury looters.

Labour said it was only by killing looters that the anti-corruption crusade being championed by President Muhammadu Buhari could succeed.

President of the TUC, Mr. Bobboi Bala, in an interview with one of our correspondents, said Saraki has a moral burden to resign.

He said, “Resignation is a moral burden on people. But if somebody feels that he will carry his cross, go to the courts and try to exonerate himself, he should be given the opportunity. But it would be too bad if at the end of the day, he is found guilty. It does not speak well of public office holders.

“In other climes, as soon as such things happen, people tender their letters of resignation. Obviously, it is a moral burden on him. We hope all politicians will begin to know that no matter how highly placed they are, one day, they will definitely have to account for their stewardship.”

Several chapters of the NLC and the TUC across the states also asked for Saraki’s resignation on Saturday.

The Chairman, TUC, Ogun State, Mr. Olubunmi Fajobi, told one of our correspondents that if it were in a civilised clime, the Senate President would have stepped aside to allow for free and fair trial.

He said, “As it were, the Senate President is sitting on a delicate seat. If it were a civilised society, he would have stepped aside to allow for a fair trial, so that he won’t allow his official position to influence the decision of the tribunal.”

Also, the Ekiti State Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Raymond Adesanmi, advised Saraki to step down from office.

He said, “If it were in other climes, he would have resigned. My advice for him would be to step down as the Senate President to answer the charges against him. If at the end of the day he is not found guilty, he could return to his position.”

Adesanmi’s TUC counterpart in Ekiti, Mr. Adesoye Adedayo, corroborated him.

He said, “Although the case against him has political undertone, I would advise him to resign to prove his innocence.”

In Cross River State, the Chairman of the TUC, Mr. Clarkson Otu, who noted that labour unions had yet to meet to take a definite position on Saraki’s trial, said the Senate President should resign his position.

He said, “This whole thing is politics. The said irregularities allegedly discovered in Sariki’s assets declaration are issues before the CCT, but having got himself involved in this controversy, he should quit as senate president based on moral grounds.

“If he does not quit, he will keep battling to retain that position. This is my personal view and not that of the TUC.”

The factional Chairman of the NLC in Delta State, Mr. Williams Akporeha, the state chapter of the union was in support of Saraki’s resignation.

“We are saying that he should step aside because he is facing trial that borders on allegations of fraud and misinformation. He should resign on a clean slate instead of his continued stay in office in shameless aberration,” he said.

In the same vein, Chairman of the TUC in Delta, Mr. Myke Arinze, said, “Senator Saraki should resign and set the record straight because he cannot be facing trial and be dictating as Senate President.”

CNPP, CODER, SERAP, others ask Senate President to quit

Second Republic Governor of old Kaduna State and Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, Mr. Balarabe Musa, in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday, also urged Saraki to step down as Senate President as a show of respect for his office.

Musa said, “First of all, it depends on his conscience. If he knows that the allegations against him have anything bordering on genuineness and if he knows that he has not done anything above board, he should succumb to his conscience.

“In honour of the institution he represents, it is therefore best for him to resign in order not to undermine the position of the judge.

“If he knows that there are elements of truth in the allegations against him, he should not cost the government so much in court and thereby undermine the integrity of the bench; he should just resign. He is still young; he still has a lot of opportunities.”

Also, the Coalition against Corrupt Leaders called for Saraki’s resignation.

The Executive Chairman, CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran, said, “He should resign for now. If he is found to be innocent, then Nigerians would have reason to apologise to him and his dignity will be restored. If he continues to hold on to power, he is likely to lose more dignity; nobody will respect him for doing so.”

Similarly, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project described Nigeria as a peculiar place, where issues of probity, integrity and adherence to the rule of law would be questioned and politicians would continue to remain in public office “as if those things don’t matter.”

According to the Executive Director of SERAP, Adetokunbo Mumuni, in saner climes, when public figures would have such burden on them, the first thing to do would be to get off the seat to clear their name by virtue of the rule of law and due process.

Mumuni said, “If people are saying he should resign, I also support that move because as the number three man in Nigeria, he has not set a very good example. It is not a question of ‘If I was not declared senate president, nobody will remember what I did 10 years ago.’ Why didn’t he declare his assets when he was governor?

“If we are talking about equity, then we must be able to come to equity with clean hands. That is the way I see it. I have never been a subscriber to the idea of witch-hunting. Why can’t they just follow the law? The question of witch-hunting, to me, is neither here nor there. Did they comply with the law? I don’t believe in the idea that they have enemies somewhere.

“Why shouldn’t we do what is needful and proper and we now start talking about witch-hunting? Matters of criminal infraction don’t have limitations. I have never seen a defence to an infraction of law where one would say, ‘Some people were not dealt with, so I cannot be dealt with.’”

Also, the Convener, Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, faulted those who call Saraki’s trial a witch-hunt. He said the Senate President should resign.

He said, “I believe it will be good for the Senate and the country – for political responsibility – for Bukola Saraki to resign. Unless that is done, his political influence will interfere in the process.”

In the same vein, the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reform said even though Saraki remained innocent until the tribunal finds him guilty, it had become morally necessary for the Senate President to resign from office.

Convener of CODER, Chief Ayo Opadokun, who was the General Secretary of the National Democratic Coalition and an ex-Secretary-General of the Afenifere, said it was not possible for all lawbreakers in the country to be tried at once. He said, “They have to be picked one by one.”

He said although other lawmakers in the National Assembly might have committed similar offences on assets declaration, Saraki’s trial would serve as a good lesson to others.

Opadokun said, “Saraki’s trial has more fundamental dimension because of the fact that someone crookedly emerged as leader of the Nigerian legislature and he has been charged for false declaration (of assets), which is a criminal offence and which carries significant punishment fashioned by the Nigerian criminal law system.

“He should resign to face the charges against him. He should have resigned long ago.”

PoliticsBuhari Explains Why He Missed A Meeting On Boko Haram At The UN by catchfun(op): 7:28pm On Sep 26, 2015
PRESIDENT BUHARI REMAINS FULLY COMMITTED TO IMPROVED NATIONAL SECURITY AND SUCCOUR FOR IDPs

Contrary to the erroneous impression that may have been created by reports that the Nigerian delegation to the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly missed a meeting on help for displaced persons, President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration remain fully committed to the rehabilitation and well-being of all persons who have been displaced or adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Indeed, the war against terrorism, improved security across Nigeria and additional measures to give succour to internally displaced persons have been central to discussions President Buhari has had with other world leaders since his arrival in New York on Thursday night.

The issues were dominant in the President's conversations on Friday with Chancellor Angela Merkel, the King of Spain, His Majesty Don Felipe VI and former Prime-minister Gordon Brown who came with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to discuss the actualization of the safe schools initiative, which is of special interest in parts of Nigeria most vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

President Buhari is handling his duty as leader of the Nigerian delegation to this year's General Assembly with the greatest possible diligence and will certainly not tolerate any tardiness on the part of the delegation in seizing every possible opportunity to advance Nigeria's interests.

This notwithstanding, it must be realized that it will be near impossible for any national delegation, no matter its size, to participate in all the meetings that are simultaneously happening in and around the General Assembly in New York.

The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York.

While the meeting referred to in media reports is commendable, it was not the only one or the most important of such meetings in New York that are paying attention to the problem of insecurity, migration and violent extremism in the Lake Chad area and the rest of the world.

Nigeria was represented earlier today at an important side event devoted to the North-East called by the UN Population Fund, UNFPA on "Building Stability and Resilience in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin Countries."

President Buhari fully conscious of his responsibility to Nigeria and will accept nothing short of the best for Nigerians in the meetings taking place in and around the United Nations.

Anyone trying to create an impression of dereliction of duty, based on the Nigerian delegation's absence at an unofficial meeting, is only being mischievous and uncharitable.

CrimeNigerian Army Accuses Borno Leaders Of Plotting To Prolong Boko Haram Insurgency by catchfun(op): 7:14pm On Sep 25, 2015
The Nigerian Army on Friday raised alarm over plans by “some highly-placed individuals” in the North East, particularly Borno State, to sabotage military operations in the region.
A statement by the army spokesman, Sani Usman, said the elite were bent on having the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists prolonged for their selfish interests.
Mr. Usman, a colonel, did not however state in clear terms the means through which the notable individuals were undermining the war against terrorism or how they would benefit from the insurgency when prolonged.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public and send a very strong and serious final warning to some prominent individuals and political groups who hailed from Borno State in particular and North East generally, that there is information of plans by some highly placed individuals and political groups to undermine and scuttle the fight against terrorism and insurgency in this country.
“The unscrupulous individuals and their cohorts were determined to reverse the gains made and scuttle our efforts of achieving the Presidential directive to defeat Boko Haram terrorists within 3 months. They are enlisting the services of some Non-Governmental Organizations in this grand design.
“It has come to our knowledge that they were employing every means to see that the operation does not succeed in order for them to continue to enjoy certain benefits.
“It has been revealed that they are employing the services of marabouts and other unethical means in order to frustrate our efforts and the operations in addition to campaign of calumny.
“We are aware of their clandestine meetings and other diabolical efforts to achieve their nefarious aims. This would not be tolerated.
“Therefore, such individuals and groups should be warned in unmistakable terms that anyone found would be dealt with accordingly.
“People should place the interest of the nation above any personal gain or ambition. The continued lost of lives and property in this country through terrorists activities does not one any good,” the army spokesman said.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/190603-nigerian-army-accuses-borno-leaders-of-plotting-to-prolong-boko-haram-insurgency.html
CrimeProphet Stabs Self, Bleeds To Death In C&S Church by catchfun(op): 6:10pm On Sep 25, 2015
A man, simply identified as Prophet Wale, has killed himself in a Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ona Iwa Mimo, on Otunba Bamidele Street, in the Ikotun area of Lagos State, after he reportedly approached the owner of the church, a prophetess, to be part of her ministry.
According to PUNCHMetro, the deceased claimed to be a prophet and said he would love to assist the prophetess who allegedly rejected the offer, and Wale became angry. He was said to have grabbed a bottle, broke it and stabbed himself in the neck.
Residents, who reportedly spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the victim’s death caused commotion on the street, adding that policemen from Igando, Ikotun and Idimu divisions trooped to the street in three vans.
A witness said, “It was around 5pm. I was passing by and I saw a crowd of people in the church premises. Policemen and three police vans from Ikotun, Idimu and Igando police divisions were there.”
One of the residents said the victim was likely to be one of those sleeping in the church.
“Many people sleep in that church and something could have led to his death. It could have been frustration and it might be something different,” he presumed.
The community leader, Otunba Bamidele, when contacted, said he was not aware of the incident.
He said, “I travelled and just came back this morning; please I have nothing to say and I am not aware. I learnt the police took the corpse and arrested the owner of the church. I cannot tell what led to the death because I don’t live with them. I don’t know the man. He is a stranger in this community.”
An unidentified police source, however, reportedly revealed that the victim was from the Apapa area of the state. He said the prophetess claimed not to have known the victim from anywhere until on the morning when he entered the church and offered to join her ministry.
He said, “The owner of the church is claiming that she has never met the man before.
“She said the man just came to her and said he was a pastor from Bayelsa State and he was living in Apapa, but would like to be part of her ministry. She claimed that when she asked for his address, and relatives, he did not answer her.”

PoliticsIt’s Too Early To Assess Buhari – PDP Bot Secretary by catchfun(op): 1:41pm On Sep 25, 2015
The Secretary, Board of Trustees of Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Walid Jibrin, has observed that 100 days of the present administration in office are not enough to assess its performance.
In an interview with newsmen on Friday in Nasarawa, he urged Nigerians to give the administration more time before assessing its performance.
“I don’t agree that Buhari is slow and I don’t believe that 100 days are enough to judge anybody or any one in office; it is just for one to start planning very well.
“Let us give him and other leaders up to six months and after that, we could start assessing the administration,’’ he said.
Jibrin also called on Buhari to be fair to all political parties and individuals in his war against corruption.
“If President Buhari decides to probe some individuals both in the All Progressives Congress and PDP, so be it. I will support him if he is doing the right thing for the betterment of the society,’’ he added.
He urged Muslims and other Nigerians to use the period of Eid el-Kabir to pray for peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethnic, religious and political groups in the country.
The BoT secretary said the PDP was working to win the presidential election in 2019, insisting that PDP would change Nigeria positively when it assumed office.

PoliticsConfusion In Kwara As Protesters Attack Saraki, Others At Ilorin Praying Ground by catchfun(op): 12:53pm On Sep 24, 2015
There was pandemonium at the eid praying ground in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, on Thursday as aggrieved faithful went on the rampage throwing missiles in the direction of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and other dignitaries.
Witnesses said the protesters were angered by the inability of the state government to pay salaries of workers before the Sallah celebrations, rendering some civil servants unable to buy rams for today’s Eid-el Kabir.
“Shortly after the senate president and other dignitaries arrived, some people started throwing stones and sachet waters in the direction of the Senate President and other important people,” one witness told PREMIUM TIMES.
“They started chanting Ole Ole Ole (thief), “Pay us our salaries”, “Where is our bailout money” and “Don’t use bailout money to service Abuja politics.”
Before long, the situation deteriorated, as some of the protesters started destroying cars and other properties in sight.
One of the vehicles destroyed is an unmarked bus, with a federal government of Nigeria number, belonging to the University of Ilorin.
“The protesters erroneously thought the bus was among vehicles in the convoy of Senate President Saraki,” a witness said. He requested not to be named for fear of reprisal.
The witness said as the violence continued, Mr. Saraki and other dignitaries were whisked away by law enforcement amid heightened security coverhttp://www.google.co.in/gwt/x?gl=IN&wsc=wn&source=s&u=http://www.newsnow.co.uk/

LAGOS – Tragedy struck at Ejigbo, Lagos State, on Tuesday afternoon after an SUV rammed into a store, killing an 8-year-old child.
Five other children, including three siblings of the deceased, were injured after the crash which occurred around 3pm.
The incident which happened at Olutimeleyin Street, Ejigbo, also destroyed goods displayed for sale inside the store.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Vanguard that the female driver of the SUV was on a very high speed when she lost control of the car and swerved into the store.
Passers-by and others who witnessed the incident, reportedly rushed to the scene only to find five of the children bleeding profusely on the floor, while one of them was already dead.
Sympathizers were said to have held the female driver hostage after which they called an ambulance.
The driver was nearly lynched but for the quick intervention of policemen from Ejigbo Division who were alerted by an elderly man in the crowd.
Vanguard gathered that the policemen quickly rushed the wounded children to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the battered body of the dead girl was covered with a wrapper.
The distraught mother of the children who rushed to the scene, was also seen wailing uncontrollably while firmly gripping the driver of the car that killed and wounded her children.
The owner of Saint Jacobs Hospital where the victims were rushed for treatment, Dr. Adeyemi, told Vanguard that he only came out of his office to see a large crowd gathered in the hospital with five girls who were injured as a result of the accident.
He explained that the girls were seriously injured by the car, adding that if they had not been rushed to the hospital immediately, two others would have lost their lives too.

CrimeBoko Haram Agreed To Swap Chibok Girls With Arrested Bomb Expert — Buhari by catchfun(op): 7:15am On Sep 16, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that one of the conditions given by Boko Haram for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls was for the Nigerian government to release one of the sect members with expertise in making Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President stated this on Tuesday in Paris while responding to questions from members of the Nigerian community in France under the auspices of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO).
Mr. Buhari however said his government would not accept such a demand.
“They wanted us to release one of their leaders who is a strategic person in developing and making Improvised IEDs that is causing a lot of havoc in the country by blowing people in Churches, Mosques, market places, motor parks and other places,” Mr. Buhari said.
He reiterated the administration’s readiness to negotiate – on certain conditions – with the terrorists for the release of the schoolgirls abducted since April 2014.
“The issue of Chibok girls has occupied our minds and because of the international attention it drew and the sympathy throughout the country and the world. The government is (looking into possibility of) negotiating with some of the Boko Haram leadership,” the president said.
Mr. Buhari, however, stated that government must first establish genuine members of the sect so that it would not make the mistake of engaging the wrong persons.
“It is a very sensitive development in the sense that first we have to establish, are they genuine leaders of the Boko Haram. That is number one.
“Number two, what are their terms, the first impression we had was not very encouraging,’’ the president said.
He expressed his administration’s worries over the continued stay of the Chibok schoolgirls in the hands of their captors, saying he was working tirelessly to get them released.
Mr. Buhari noted that the unfortunate incident had attracted global attention and sympathy within and outside Nigeria and government could not fold its alms over the issue.
“But, it is very important that if we are going to talk to anybody, we have to know how much he is worth.
“Let them bring all the girls and then, we will be prepared to negotiate; I will allow them to come back to Nigeria or to be absorbed in the community.
“We have to be very careful; the concern we have for the Chibok girls, one only imagines if they got a daughter there between 14 and 18 and for more than one and a half year, a lot of the parents who have died would rather see the graves of their daughters rather than the condition they imagine they are in.
“This has drawn a lot of sympathy throughout the world; that is why this government is working very hard in negotiating and getting the balance of those who are alive,” he said.
Mr. Buhari assured the diasporans that his administration was doing everything possible to improve on the state of the economy through provision of infrastructure in critical sectors.
The president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina had, in July, confirmed the willingness of government to engage the sect in negotiations if they were ready.

PoliticsICPC Warns State Governors Against Stealing Bailout Funds by catchfun(op): 5:19pm On Sep 15, 2015
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has warned state governments not to tamper with the bailout funds released for their respective states by the Federal Government for immediate payment of workers salaries.
The anti-graft Commission said it would consistently monitor the funds and how they were dispensed in all the states that benefitted.
It said its interest in the disbursement of the funds was for the good of workers which he said had been owed by their respective states for several months.
It vowed to ensure that the bailout funds are released for the purpose for which the Federal Government offered them.
The Chairman of ICPC, Ekpo Nta, made this known at the Commission’s Headquarters while handing over different sums of monies totalling almost one billion, looted in the Federal Ministry of Environment and some schools in Ogun State to the appropriate owners.
Ekpo Nta said the warnings he gave to state governors emanated from reports that the bailout funds released to their respective states were not being properly channelled.
He said the bailout funds belonged to the Federal Government; no state government had the right to misappropriate it, while not directly using it to pay the backlog of workers salaries they owed.
He said, “We understood that the bailout funds released to states by the Federal Government have not been going towards the proper channel. It is important to state here today that the bail out is from the Federal Governmet to the states to assist them in paying the salaries of workers.
“We will from now on be following how the funds are disbursed in different states to ensure that they get to the appropriate beneficiaries. This is because it is government funds.
However, the ICPC during the occasion handed over the looted sum of N924 million to the Ministry of Environment, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Fatima Mede, and the Director General of the Great Green Wall Project,, Ahmed Goni.
The money which the ICPC recovered from different banks was allegedly stolen from the account of the Ministry by some officials who are said to be facing prosecution at the moment.

PoliticsWhy DSS Sacked 65 Personnel – Source by catchfun(op): 8:24am On Sep 14, 2015
Details have emerged why about 65 personnel of the Department of State Services who were evicted from the service training school in Lagos were asked to leave the service.
A senior officer of the service who spoke withVanguardin Abuja Sunday evening said the trainees were sent out because “their recruitment did not follow laid down procedures of choosing personnel into the service.”
It will be recalled that DSS 65 cadet officers of the service who were undergoing training at the State Services Academy, SSA, in Lagos, including a sibling of the sacked former spokes person of the service, Marilyn Ogar were asked to leave earlier this month, few weeks to their passing out.
No reason was given for their dismissal which was contained in a letter by the Director General of the Department of State Service, Lawal Daura.
But speaking withVanguardon why the decision was taken, a senior officer of the service who is familiar with the matter said their sack was “inevitable” because their recruitment process was “flawed.”
“What happened was that recruitment of most of these cadets did not follow due process. They were brought into the service by politicians without meeting the stringent requirements set by the service in recruiting its personnel. They were dumped on the service by politicians through the active connivance of the past leadership of the service. We are re-organising the service so we cannot afford to have partisan political moles in our midst” the source said.
The source who is a senior operative of the service said the process of “weeding undesirable elements” who found their way into the service was ongoing. The present leadership of the service is determined to reposition the service to its professional roles. There is nothing personal about the decision of the service. It was a very painful decision in view of the investment made on them but it was a decision that must be taken” he said.

PoliticsOkorocha Is A Mole In APC- Okechukwu by catchfun(op): 6:17am On Sep 14, 2015
Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress,APC, South-East geopolitical zone, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has dismissed the statement by Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha that Ndigbo were responsible for their exclusion in appointments made by President Muhamadu Buhari.
Okechukwu was reacting to an interview granted to a national daily by Okorocha, published on yesterday.
Gov Okorocha of Imo State
In the interview, Okorocha said he shared the sentiments of the Igbo that none of them made the list of appointees.
The Imo Governor however added that “some of the appointments we lost was of the doings of our people,” just as he recalled that when he crying like a lonely voice in the wilderness that look at where Nigeria was going, Ndigbo chose to put all their eggs in one basket.
But, in a statement on Sunday, Okechukwu said Okorocha should take responsibility for Igbo exclusion in the appointments, rather than passing the buck to Ndigbo.
In a statement was titled, ‘Governor Rochas Okorocha neither truly campaigned for President Buhari nor APC’ Okechukwu stated: “I am sorry to comment on the blame game being played by, Owelle Rochas Okorocha; for his interview can be classified as Okorocha Recue Mission from the less than five percent score in the 2015 presidential election from the entire South East.
“All one can say is that to the best of my knowledge, he neither truly campaigned for President Muhammadu Buhari nor the All Progressives Congress.
“My thinking is that while we blame Ndigbo for putting all our eggs in one basket, we should blame our leaders who genuinely didn’t campaign for President Buhari nor APC candidates in their domain.
“I challenge Governor Okorocha to tell the world how far he assisted Senator Osita Izunaso for his bid for Orlu senatorial district, his own constituency and that of Hons Uche Onyeguocha and Uwajimogu of Owerri and Okigwe districts respectively” Okechukwu stated.
While noting that a little assistance from Governor Okorocha could have earned APC two senatorial seats, and other legislative seats, Okechukwu made it clear that there was no point for him to blame Ndigbo without blaming himself first.
“This is a man some of us advised not to run against the zoning convention, that it will deny Ndigbo the chance of producing either the chairman or the vice presidential slot and he refused. He thought we are in Nollywood” the APC zonal spokesman said.
According to Okechukwu, the Imo Governor should forthwith desist from the blame game and accept responsibility for the fate of Ndigbo in Buhari’s appointments.
He maintained that Okorocha lied when he claimed that he was crying like a lonely voice in the wilderness for Ndigbo to vote for Buhari.
He insisted that if Okorocha really cried like a lonely voice in the wilderness, President Buhari would have gotten at least 30 percent of the votes cast in Imo State and not 18 percent.
“If Okorocha worked for APC in the South-East, how come we did not even win a single senatorial seat in Imo and the entire zone? He should stop this blame game and accept responsibility for the fate that has befallen Ndigbo” Okechukwu said.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/okorocha-is-a-mole-in-apc-okechukwu/

PoliticsRivers Election Tribunal: Witnesses Are Lying – Wike by catchfun(op): 8:15pm On Sep 13, 2015
The Rivers state Government has dismissed the testimonies of some witnesses that have appeared before the Rivers Governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.
The state Government in a statement signed by Opunabo Inko-Tariah, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Nyesom Wike took a swipe at the Military personnel that discredited the elections in the state.
The state government also downplayed the testimony of the Senior INEC Official, Charles Okoye who also claimed the elections were marred by violence and intimidation.
Inko-Tariah said all the testimonies so far were in contradiction to the facts before the Justice Ambrosa-led Tribunal.
He accused the Army of playing the script of the petitioner, the All Progressives Congress, adding that the Military men “merely lied on oath”.
The statement reads, “The news making the rounds that an INEC staff at the ongoing Governorship Election Tribunal for Rivers state, gave testimonies confirming alleged irregularities, violence and ballot box snatching is entirely meaningless and of no consequence to the substance of the matters at the Tribunal.
“Although this should not ordinarily be an issue for media debate, being a matter before a Tribunal, it is important to straighten the records for public information to the effect all that all the bogus claims by the busybody INEC staff represented were not only entirely scripted but dead on arrival.
“This is because INEC itself which is his employer and a key defendant in the matter at the Tribunal had conducted an independent investigation into the alleged malpractices and purported violence in Rivers state through three national Commissioners assigned for that purpose and they respectively reported that elections in the state were free, fair and credible and that it was indeed the APC that fermented trouble during the elections in Rivers state.
“It is important to note however that it was the then INEC Chairman Prof. Atahiru Jega who read out this report on national Television and abroad in various fora, thus revalidating the election of Nyesom Wike as Governor of Rivers state.
“It should also be recalled that the Tribunal under the current Chairman, Justice Ambrose, in his recent ruling, struck out paragraphs touching on electoral violence and parties mentioned in the petition who are not before the Tribunal, thus rendering the petition against Governor Wike almost useless and very weak.
“Counsel to Governor Wike Adedipe SAN had confirmed that the testimony by the said witness contradicts that of INEC since he claimed he monitored elections in several parts of the state, although he gave testimony not in his capacity as an INEC staff, thus raising questions around his locus to testify if not speaking the mind of INEC which he claims he works for.

Politics€20m Scandal, Leadership Tussle Rock Immigration Service by catchfun(op): 8:04pm On Sep 13, 2015
Aggrieved officers, who retired recently from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), on Sunday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to probe alleged mismanagement of over €20 million (N7.5 billion) European Union funds released to the NIS under the immediate past Minister for the Interior, Mr. Abba Moro.
Aside, the retired officers gravely lamented negative impact, which they said, internal struggle for power and relevance between the former ministers and ex-Comptroller-General, Mr David Paradang had upon the service, thus leading to violation of federal character clause in the 1999 Constitution.
The officers, who did not want their names mentioned, vented their grievances about the rots in the NIS at a session with THISDAY in Lagos, noting that what had been happening in the NIS was worse than that of Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
They said they had petitioned the Department of State Service (DSS) to investigate the mismanagement of the EU funds on immigration, which they said, was officially called the tenth EU fund apart from other donors’ funds, though nothing had been heard from the DSS about the petition.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/-20m-scandal-leadership-tussle-rock-immigration-service/220120/

PoliticsHuge Chunk Of Nigeria’s Budgets End Up In Private Pockets – APC by catchfun(op): 1:36pm On Sep 12, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday said that a huge chunk of billions of Naira budgeted annually for Nigeria’s economy ends up in private pockets.
The party made this disclosure while hailing the Nigerian workers and the Civil Society for standing up firmly against corruption, calling their open demonstration of support for the Federal Government’s battle against corruption a major boost to the anti-graft fight.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Nigerian workers’ unambiguous stand against corruption is also a clear repudiation of all those who have attempted to politicize the battle either by insinuating selectivity or saying the government should face governance instead of dwelling on the fight against corruption.
”Thursday’s nationwide demonstrations by Nigerian workers and the Civil Society in support of the anti-corruption battle is the clearest indication yet that corruption is now seen for what it is, a vice to be condemned and punished rather than something to be venerated and celebrated. The growing intolerance for corruption among Nigerians is also a clear example of what a nation can achieve under a committed, sincere, purposeful and focused leadership,” it said
APC said the delivery of good governance was seriously hampered by corruption, hence the cankerworm of corruption that had eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigerian society was the main reason why millions of unemployed youths cannot get jobs, why hospitals lack necessary equipment and medicines, why infrastructural deficit is worsening and why social services are almost non-existent, just to mention a few.
”A huge chunk of the billions of Naira which are budgeted annually for all sectors of the economy end up in private pockets. Little wonder then that the economy has been in the doldrums over the years, despite the trillions of Naira earned by the country from crude oil sales alone.
“It is, therefore, baffling that some people, for whatever reasons, have decided to engage in sophistry in their attempt to distract the government from combating graft. Thursday’s nationwide anti-graft rally by Nigerian workers and the Civil Society has shown that Nigerians are not buying such fallacy,” the party said

CrimeFamily Of Woman Killed By AEPB Officials Cries Out For Justice by catchfun(op): 1:30pm On Sep 12, 2015
The family of late Mrs. Mary James Ojobane, who was allegedly killed by an official of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) in an attempt to confiscate her goods, has called on the police authorities and human right groups to help them get justice.
The deceased’s family disclosed that the incident, which occurred at the former Police Barracks at the Wuse Zone 6 Abuja, had left them devastated.
DAILY POST recalls that the deceased, a petty dealer on bean cake, was reportedly pushed down by an official of AEPB on September 1. She died few hours later in the hospital.
The AEPB officials had claimed that they were on an official assignment to destroy illegal shops and roadside kiosks.
However, checks by DAILY POST revealed that a certain Chuma Chukwu, a businessman, who lives in the same neighbourhood, had reportedly written a petition against the deceased and others, claiming that their goats destroyed his car tires and wires.
The deceased’s husband, James Ojobane, an indigene of Kogi State, who retired as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Nigeria Police Force, said he was still in bed when his late wife went out for her daily business.
“She starts her business very early in the morning, around 6 a.m. On September 1, I was inside my room when I heard noise outside my backyard. I rushed out and met men from the AEPB, who said they wanted to ‘arrest’ my goats,” James said.
“We bought goats to use for an upcoming occasion and they are always tied to a tree at the back of our house,” he noted., adding that “when I got downstairs, one of them was trying to loosen the goats tied to a tree. I asked him why he was doing that; replied that my neighbour, Chuma Chukwu, a businessman, who deals on gas and diesel, wrote a petition against my daughter, who was in charge of rearing the goats, claiming that the goats found their way under his vehicle, thereby, ‘eating up his vehicle tires and wires.’”
When asked whether the deceased had any issue with Chuma before she died, James said, “I really can’t imagine what his problem is. I can’t recall any scuffle between Chuma and my wife or even my children. We are peaceful people; we have never had any issues with anybody since we started residing here. If Chuma had any issue with my wife, I wasn’t in the know, but I really doubt that; besides he isn’t the only one that has a car in this neighbourhood, why is this coming from him? Goats now eat up wires and tires? It’s unbelievable. Besides, our goats were never left to stray, we always tied them.
“I called my daughter who also pleaded with them to leave the goats alone but they wouldn’t listen. My daughter struggled with the men and my wife was pleading with them to let go of the goats. Whilst my wife was pleading with them, one of the men identified as Dogo Isah Umar, pushed my wife down and on noticing she was helplessly on the floor, they absconded.
“This was at about 9:45a.m. In a split of seconds, while I was still trying to figure out what was really happening, my wife started screaming, ‘my head, my head’. So I asked one of my sons to bring my vehicle so we could take my wife to the hospital, because all efforts to keep her calm were futile.
“She was so helpless; she wanted to urinate, she had to do it right there on her body while on the floor as we were trying to help her up,” he sobbed.
“When we all got to Wuse General Hospital, she was taken to the emergency ward where she laid, breathing with the aid of an oxygen. Soon afterwards, my daughter got a call from home that the men from AEPB returned and this time, with two white hiluxes and a white truck and she was told they were packing the drinks she sells,” he added.
James recalled that about 100 crates were loaded into the vehicles, including two blending machines which his wife used commercially.
“The tables and chairs my wife’s customers use to eat, were destroyed too. My children kept calling me to come and intervene but I couldn’t leave my wife in the hospital, after all, her life was more valuable to me than the things being destroyed and at this time, my daughter had gone to the Utako Police Division to report the incident but unfortunately, the policemen practically chased her out, saying her case had nothing to do with the police, instead, she should go to the AEPB to report.
“We kept waiting at the hospital hoping to go back with my wife, only for the doctor to call me aside to say she gave up the ghost,” he added.

PoliticsVenezuela Opposition Leader Bags 14-year Jail Term Over ‘treason’ by catchfun(op): 6:54am On Sep 11, 2015
Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison, his lawyer Roberto Marrero has said.
The popular dissident, a US-trained economist who has been held at a military prison since February 2014, is accused of inciting violence against the government of President Nicolas Maduro and attempting to force his ouster.
A court in Caracas, the capital, found Lopez guilty late on Thursday for his role as the leader of a street protest movement which was involved in bloody clashes with security forces in February last year.
The sentence was for 13 years, nine months and seven days.
He will serve out his sentence in the military prison of Ramo Verde, where he has been held since he turned himself in shortly after the protests.
“If the sentence condemns me you will be more fearful to read it than I will be to hear it, because you know that I’m innocent,” Lopez defiantly told the judge according to a witness, David Smolansky.
Smolansky, a Caracas neighbourhood mayor who was at the closed-door hearing, described Lopez’s appearance via Twitter.
Fighting broke out earlier in the day between supporters of Lopez, 44, and pro-government demonstrators outside the courthouse.
Wielding sticks and plastic bottles, supporters of socialist Maduro’s government descended on a group of Lopez’s followers who had been waiting since the early hours of the morning for the final phase of his trial, an AFP news agency correspondent saidhttp://www.punchng.com/news/venezuela-opposition-leader-bags-14-year-jail-term-over-treason/
