yes, there are always two options, either yiu trust the person enough to unfreeze his or her account, hoping he Wil refund the money, or you get a court order to force the bank to debit the account of the customer... Most times when the money is up to 800k and above, I advise court order.

Four police officers have been detained by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for allegedly extorting N53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr Musa Aliyu (SAN), during an illegal stop-and-search operation in Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists in Abuja, describing the officers as “thieves” who had no business wearing the police uniform.

According to him, the officers mounted an unauthorised checkpoint around the Banex area of Wuse after leaving their respective duty posts and extorted the ICPC chairman without knowing his identity.

He said the ICPC boss was forced to withdraw N53,000 through a Point of Sale operator and even paid the transaction charges before the officers shared the money among themselves.

“I must say here too that we have about four policemen in custody as we speak who successfully extorted somebody of high importance, unknown to them that this person is a highly placed person in society. In clear terms, they extorted the Chairman of the ICPC.

“They extorted him of N53,000. They took him to a POS, he withdrew the money, paid the charges and they shared the money among themselves, ” he said.

The police commissioner said investigations revealed that the officers had abandoned their designated duty posts and formed a gang that mounted an illegal checkpoint to extort motorists.

“They are a gang of criminals who left various divisions, clustered together, moved to Wuse Banex and created a checkpoint where they perpetrated this act before fleeing,” he said.
Ajao said the command declared the officers wanted before arresting their gang leader, whose confession led to the arrest of the other members of the syndicate.

“We got all of them. We are going to make sure they are severely punished. Those that are going to be dismissed will definitely be dismissed,” he added.

The commissioner reiterated that the Inspector-General of Police had prohibited indiscriminate search of citizens’ mobile phones by officers on patrol.

He advised residents to refuse any unlawful demand by policemen to search their phones on the roadside and immediately report such incidents through the police emergency lines.

“You cannot stop anybody on the road and ask the person to bring out his phone for search. If any policeman stops you and asks to search your phone, don’t agree. Call the police emergency lines and we will ask them why,” Sanusi said.

He urged members of the public to promptly report cases of extortion and other misconduct by police personnel, assuring that offenders would be tracked down and sanctioned.

“We will still enforce the IG’s directive. Some of them are on the task because they are criminally minded. They want to perpetrate such acts. If we get them, they will face disciplinary actions and will be made to face the consequences,” Sanusi said

I dey talk from experience, no Be just carry talk... Last 2 years my wife mistakenly sent 2.420 million to a moniepoint account from Opay... I called caller moniepoint and explain to them, and they told me to complain to my bank, that the bank will reach out to them, I did later call Opay and Opay said they will escalate it, and after 24hours I called moniepoint to explain again & moniepoint told me my bank has reached out to them and the account has been frozen, they also told me that they have reached out to the customer to give them consent to reverse the money, but unable to reach the customer, they also said if they can't reach the customer I might need a court order... As God will have it the man called my wife using the Opay phone number & promise to refund the money, I tried explaining to him to reach out to moniepoint to give consent for reversal, but the man seems busy, and after 3days the man refunded the money willingly from an Eco bank account & called for confirmation.. My wife was so happy, and the man told my wife to please lift the restriction on the moniepoint account. Me I later called moniepoint that same day, and after explaining everything to them that it has been sorted, the CS agent told me to reach out to my bank which is Opay to give them this explanation and Opay will in turn reach out to them, I did that and Opay said they will discontinue the dispute, the man was always calling us and we were giving him update on what Opay said & me I have to constantly be disturbing Opay to relate with moniepoint to lift the PND(Post No Debit) on the moniepoint. It still tool extra 7 working days from the day I reached out to Opay for that case to be settled eventually, after numerous calls to Opay telling then to end the dispute that the issue has been settled amicably. However, weeks after the incident, she alleges that PalmPay has neither provided a clear pathway for redress nor demonstrated urgency in resolving the issue, repeatedly informing her that “nothing can be done.”

the story does not add up, moniepoint can not tell a customer to escalate to Palmpay, that is not how the banking system work, except an unprofessional handled the case. It is moniepoint who is your bank that is suppose to escalate to Palmpay, while you sit and wait for update. If there is no partway yet and recipient bank(Palmpay) is refusing to act, you should hold your bank responsible which is moniepoint, it means they aren't applying enough pressure to Palmpay for a resolution
