Nairaland / General / Re: Does Flogging Have A Place In Modern Nigerian Society? by celeron40(m): 3:36pm On Feb 17, 2017
INDESTRUCTABLEX:

You are on your own... I just can't believe Nigerians are impaired in reasoning. I can count the number of times my dad beat me mercilessly. I can't count the number of times my mum flogged me. Yet in all of that, I am way better. U can't compare the morals of a child that was flogged to those that were not. Flogging is the only way. It has been from the beginning and will always be.
Take our fore fathers for example. Do u agree that the world is gradually loosing it norms and values?
Before now divorce was a shame, same sex marriage was also a shame. Now pple are proud to say they have divorced 5 times or push for same sex marriage.
1c you leave ur roots, you become confused. Wo, I dey beat my cousin and after that I tell him y I do so. So you better shine your eye... Before you start regretting.
RUBBISH!!! If flogging is so effective, then why is Nigeria in the mess it is in today? Is your so called flogging not supposed to make better citizens. And you're here saying nonsense about divorce.

I know you shall have a reason to thank them in the future....
That is the problem...parents are never held to account, because kids who later become successful, will wrongly attribute their eventual success, to years of physical abuse. All the beatings and insults are categorized as "love"...Now you know why some women stay in abusive relationships...they have been wired to associate abuse with love. Some girls even tell their boyfriends or husbands to beat them up. Can you imagine? Lalasticlala, pls FP.

Welcome to Africa, where warped cultural values have turned families into breeding ground for emotionally unstable adults. If our glorified "cultural values" are so effective, then why is Nigeria so messed up in all ramifications? There is a doctor in my church whose kids have all sorts of scars on their bodies as a result of several beatings from the dad. This monster flogs his kids with rubber hose...yet, nobody in the so-called "house of God" has ever challenged the man. Going by international standards, I'll say that almost ALL Nigerian kids are suffering from some form of abuse. In the South-West, physical abuse is condoned and even encouraged. If you don't want kids, why have them and then subject them to torture? Yorubas are major culprits in this regard. Yet they say it's love... I had a classmate while in Secondary school, whose dad used to flog her naked. Her self-esteem was so low that despite being so pretty, she was always looking dirty and rough. This tradition has to stop! It is only in Nigeria that being friends with ones kids is considered a sign of weakness.

What he created is a walkie talkie, He can't commercialize it, infact he can only use it within his domain.

there are stringent laws binding radio frequency allocation/usage, due to interference issues. He will need a license to operate.

Apart from the fact that no country will license a "phone" that can be used to tune into military communications.

I'm new on this thread and I have an interest in joining the Army soon..I'm currently 22+ , finished from U.I a year ago, and I just commenced my NYSC programme. I have a B.Sc (Hons) in Econs with a 2.2 C.O.D... My question is, will I need to get an M.Sc to boost my chances? I know a 2.2 degree comes with a lot of competition. I plan on applying for the SSC immediately I clock 24.

Thanks for the anticipated replies.

Nice to see our troops looking smart. We are winning the war. Notice the pistol on the COAS's hip. That's a real battle-ready General. Unlike those pot-belly tellytubbies under Mr Ebele.

Nigerian Army kills many Boko Haram terrorists, clears Borno town

Gudumbali – Nigerian Army on Friday killed a number Boko Haram terrorists in Gudumbali town, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Sani Usman, has said.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army Headquarters: “Troops of 7 Brigade have today entered and cleared Gudumbali town, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.”

“During the operation, quite a number of the terrorists were killed their weapons and equipment were destroyed.”

“The troops are currently doing clearance operations in the general area.”

“It should be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force has inflicted heavy damage on the terrorists camps within the general area last Monday.

“In a related development, troops of 5 Brigade Explosive Ordinance Devices (EOD) Unit while advancing towards Dikwa, ran into landmines buried by the terrorists.

“Unfortunately, two soldiers lost their lives, while two others were critically injured. The bodies of the two gallant soldiers have been evacuated, to the rear, while the other two wounded soldiers have also been evacuated and are receiving treatment at the military hospital.

“The unit also lost a Mowag Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) due to the buried landmine between old Marte and Kerenoa junction in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

“Despite this sad event, the troops are not deterred as they continued their advance and pursuing the terrorists to their enclaves in Sambisa forest.

“Similarly, it is important to note that troops in the various formations and units in Operation LAFIYA DOLE are in high spirit and more determined to destroy the terrorists camps and enclaves.”
Impressive..The new N.A offensive is gaining ground..Right now, we cannot afford to let BH regroup..I think right now is the time to suspend telecom services in Borno and Yobe as was done during the Ihejirika era..This will enable troops isolate BH units, cut them off and destroy them. The days of attrition are over. .Gunships and IFVs backed by highly-mobile units will be the key..SF units can call in artillery strikes on BH camps while destroying the enemy's mobility. Tanks will slow down operations , so the should be employed only on the toughest targets. Mobility is key; the enemy is highly mobile. The N.A could have compensated for its lack of IFVs by deploying 200-400 hilux mounted Zpu-2s. Surplus Soviet stocks are all over the place.

Sure. Matt Berninger's baritone voice just feels so cryptic! Mumford and sons; my best...finally, a real folk-rock band..The new album, "Wilder Mind" feels different, but tracks like Hot Gates , Wilder Mind, and Ditmas were brilliant. As for Bon Iver, Holocene is epic!
