Obi, Wonderful comment there. ![]() Obiagelli: I hope they(the PDP) don't stop here they should equally take care of all Widows with the same gesture, starting from edo state to the national level. Do they need a governor to misbehave before they take action. God punish them if they are doing this for political gains. |
Sheuns: Personally I dont like this so called ASUU or wateva they might be. Ever since they have been striking over the years their main aim of striking is to increase their salaries dat's what is always prior to them, they talk less of the AFFECTED ie the students. When they are on this strike they do not work rather sit at home or some of them that have businesses of their own wil have enough time to face it. By the end of the month they will receive alerts that their salaries (that they did not work for) has been paid. I think the best thing to do is to dissolve ASUU and let each universities in the nation be left to run individually. This can only be possible if the students say YES for ASUU to be gone. I rest my case.I realli am in support of your suggestion, ASUU is only holding government to Ransom, and I am defintely perturbed by government stance with creating additional universities when existing ones demands can't even be met, even states too want to keep creating universities they can't fund. What is the benefit of starting a school you cant fund. What is the essence of creating universities in every state if not only to score political points. In the beginning, it was not so. Government should as a matter of urgency reduce its fundings of tetiary schools and stop appointing VCs, Rectors and Provost. They should concentrate on providing students Loans and Tuitions and leave the schools to take care of themselves. Government should handsoff these schools because the Dons are the main beneficiaries of their largesse before the students. To curb high tution fees, re-investments should be directed to Mass Education through using digital and Internet Technology means, thus providing alternatives and options to students. Ideas are Alive! |
Goverment and Dons should look to cheaper and modern means of educating our youths at both secondary and tetiary levels. Brickwall education is gradually facing extinction as Communication is getting very sofisticated now. Instead of wasting money building classrooms and 10000seater halls all around the country, the government should look into building Server infrastructures that can accommodate students communication and interactions with their lecturers. Lecturers can stay at home and take a whole lot more number of students online than would if he was limited to a lecture hall of 1000capacity. Are our students at home up to the 100Million plus people on Facebook?, A Nigerian Tetiary Education portal Server of facebook capacity will accommodate all undergraduates in Nigeria. Lecturers will handle courses and curriculum with their select students and so on. Only when needed will there be physical meetings. Monies saved from implementing this project can be used on Researches or the funding the schools are asking for. These Dons are supposed to be our country's tink-tank but I am surprised they are not thinking in this line in discussing a way out with Government. |
yorme: Security wise, i think Yes!Otherwise, I think No!.. Opensource is my conclave. Free comes with More users and of course more support. Php with other Open Source codes is the way and the only way! |
The chairman is lucky, the soldier could as well have opened fire on him as he shunted the queue just as it would have seemed like a boko haram enfontery to attack the checkpoint. Do you remember the case of the Commissioner or so in the north who tried to force his way into government house to see his governor and the soldiers at the gate thought he was boko haram because of his shunt driving. Well the khaki boys opened fire on him. He is history now. People should learn to obey Rules irrespective of their position. It is time we demystify the 'do you know who I am' syndrome in this country. We would know who you are by your actions, you don't need to tell us what is the obvious. |
The Corper from Warri who got posted to Ogun in hope of better Life, sorry to hear of your predicaments. However, the manner you wrote your experiences, is it a song or some form of lyrics because you kept mentioning 'somebody lied', is that the Chorus part, because if it isn't, you can consider making is a song, who knows, it just might become a hit. Nice writeup all the same. |
The Nigerians are moving well, i Think we should be able to beat these guys with a wide margin. Up Nigeria!! |
Okija, I never said they shouldn't be paid, all I have advocated for in my post is for government to curb unnecessary spending. This thing you said took 12 years to complete, one cannot but only imagine the unnecessary amount of capital & human resources that would have gone down the drain during this period. If a government takes 12 years to take a decision of whether to pay or not to pay or whether to fold up or not to fold up, then how many years will it take it to implement that decision. This is reminiscent of the Yoruba adage that talks of the man that practised the art of madness for 20yrs, of course one can only again imagine how long it will take him to implement his new learned skills. |
When two BIG elephants fight.. the ground on which the event takes place suffers. This is reminiscent of the likes of people of Rivers State as served by Mr. Amaechi and those under Mr. President's watch (great people of Nigeria) who fall under this purview suffer as they forget their constitutional duties of providing basic needs for their constituency and dissipate their energies on gaining political strengths at our expense. Nigerians.. beware!! |
texaco1: kennis!kennis!!kennis!!!Kennis Music do not necessarily need to make noise about their giving. There are so many people who give but dont make noise about it. |
ifyalways: A 23 yrs old that should be in school or building his career decided to be a "foot soldier/tout" to some old buffons who have sent their own kids abroad to safety while playing "kalo kalo politricks" with the masses just for a few coins. Our Leaders focus is not on educating the masses but rather on using the youths to perpetrate their schemes. Very sorry state we are in. |
There is no gain saying that the federal government is the most money spending Tier of Government. Wasteful spending should be curbed, Performance appreciated while nonperformance should be held accountable. That way Nigeria will move forward. |
Capnd143: all those who commented senselessly are fools! Big fools! So the minister of technology should nt put into use his own allocation of the national budget just because the minister of education is nt building/rehabilitating schools? So the minister of science and technology should be the one to build schools, hospitals, etc instead of doing research with the funds given to him? Some nairalanders brain are just nothing to write home about!! Later they wil stil blame the govt for nigerians being technologicaly backward!!! must some people comment in every thing? This is the same mentality that is drawing up backward! Moon here i come! Dad and mum, pack ur bags we are going 4 excursion to the moon! #teamNIGERIACapnd143, As much as I would like to support your thoughts, let us look at it from this angle. Of what use is a functional hand when the leg is not working. As much as the hand will want to strive for excellence, its performance will be cut short due to the lack of functionality of the other part of the body. The argument is that in as much as we need to develop technologically and invest in science, there are far more pressing problems that need to be solved first and that is very pertinent. There are processes and procedures to be taken. You do not preach to a hungry man, first you feed him. Let us look at an example, at the FEC meeting, every ministry brings in its budget, but there are ministries that matters concerning them have to be met and cases classified as urgent despite and inspite of scare resources than the other ministries. It will only amount to foolhardiness, if we leave the core issues and embark on elephant projects. The people are hungry, there are no good roads, education is pathetic, Health is in shambles and the people are impoverished, and we r here talking technology to them. Let the basic things of life be made available and then if government like to talk Bio-genetics or some other rocket science, nobody will worry. We will all be happier for it but until then, the people wont stop crying foul! |
Professor Peter: in FRSC September has 31 daysYou haven't seen anything yet..Government has so confused us, today I still cant say exactly where Zuma Rock is, Abuja or Niger State. A bank (with staff strength of over 2000) whose name I wont mention here for security reasons had the effrontery to put the Rock on one of our Monies and said it was in the Capital territory, only for us to hear again that Zuma is in Niger state. Haven't they ever heard "Due diligence and Due care before"..??. |
The bane of our problem is that our government and its arms take decisions affecting the people without consulting the people. The Nigerian people are the main stakeholders on whatever decision government takes as they are the ones directly affected, the people should be more involved in decision making. These official are usually appointed to head these positions not because they merit them or are professionals but based on political settlements. Insofar, we keep putting square pegs in round holes, there wont be way forward for progress for our dear country. |
Profidada: Gej should not contemplate on forcing bamanga to resign so as to appease recalcitrant gov like wamako, aliyu, kwankwoso etc. He should realise that as long as he has a second term ambition, these gov will continue to fight him. Mr bamanga should not be the sacrificial lamb. He should make best use of the 16 gov in his kitty and focus more in his transformation agenda. Recalling wamako from suspension will never make him remorseful rather it will boost the ego in him.I will sum up your comment with 2 Yoruba adages. 1. This one was recently used by Baba somewhere in Jigawa and he said and I quote "you can only help someone find a Job but you cannot help him do the Job". 2. If you hold on tightly to a Job as do or die, what if the Job decides to leave you too by force by fire". Whether Tukur likes it or not, the die is cast and its obvious that his house is coming crashing under him!.. can he survive it..only time will tell!! |
Our federal government is really doing a bad work at managing federal road projects. I really think the President should redeploy the Works minister with a more action driven minister to move that ministry and parastatals under it like FERMA forward. FERMA does alot of talking than actioning. Just yesterday, I saw them on Lagos-Abeokuta express way around Abule-Egba repairing roads there. They were using bathroom buckets to fetch water and farm tools to perform maintenance on a Federal Road. Infact seeing them, you will think the are trying to grade a village road using local labour and available farms tools. The government should focus on developing new policies on the way forward for our transportation sector. "I have been hearing of Lagos-Ibadan/Sagamu express way repairs and maintenance since I was a little kid" and it hasn't been resolved to date, this is really sad. If new polices & standards on Road and transportation are not put in place now, I am certain my son will soon start singing the same tune.."I have been hearing of Lagos-Ibadan/Sagamu express...." |
Policewoman: Our ND pirates have gone international. Smh.PoliceWoman, I do not think these pirates are Niger Delta guys. The only mention is that they were picked up around Togo and habored in bayelsa. For all we know, the pirates could have come from any of the ecowas countries with plans to use Nigeria as scapegoat should their bubble burst. |
360command: One good way of reducing traffic in lagos can be a way of asking the danfo driver to choose a day off most especially the week days. A choice to make by a danfo driver should give one day rest of their own free will but this has to be mandatory . This traffic control management scheme is practice in manila, philippines.360command, your suggestion is a very good one but I will prefer a more lasting solution to the issue of public transportation. The government is still not doing enough to regulate the industry. 1. transportation like food, clothing and shelter is a modern day basic amenity because people must move, so the responsibility should not be left to the organised private sector, rather it should be the responsibility of government. 2. Laws and regulations governing road usage, acquisition of vehicles, vehicle taxes and other road management matters are not well articulated to encourage good road usage and a proper transport system. 3. Government lack the proper incentive to monitor and perform evaluation of many road projects to ensure stakeholders requirements are been met. I will give an example of the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, just before you get to the Sango Bridge. This road project was given to Julius Berger, but it was never completed (some part of the road were never touched) but am sure they have signed off the job as already completed as it has been about 10yrs now they took the job. 4. The people are the users and are therefore major stakeholders when it comes to Road matters. They should therefore be involved through active participation in Road project decisions. |
As things stand, Governments both at state and federal levels have invested so much on Road projects, it will be fool-hardy of them to neglect them. They will have to keep providing support for road transport and its users. The only way out of the rat race to to deploy strongly and emphasize on mass transit. Modern Trains are the best way to mitigate this. Cars are being seen in Nigeria as a class thing, whereby everyone strives to own one. If there are cheap and convenient alternative means of mass transit (in this case Trains), the people will dump the roads and government can now spend less monitoring and managing them. |
Martinho: I was in class last wk wednesday with my students(jss2), som1 jumped into d class from d window, I was shocked.....behold its DAMILOLA AKANBI...Hilarious as it may seem, this is what happens everyday. all the student does is cram and when you ask them the same question in a different way, they become lost. Focus should be more on understanding than just cramming or reciting definitions. All the best to the Copa teachers in the Villages all over Nigeria. |
