CULLED FROM "THE NATION" NEWSPAPER JULY 18TH 2009

Enough is enough, Ijaw leaders warn Niger Delta militants
LEADERS of the oil-producing communities in Izon (Ijaw) Nation of the Niger Delta yesterday threatened to mobilise against the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) if it continued with its wanton destruction of oil facilities in and outside the region.

The group, under the auspices of Izon-Ebe Oil-Producing Communities Forum (IOPCF), particularly condemned Sunday night’s attack on the Atlas Cove Jetty in Lagos, by MEND, describing the action as the height of the group's excesses.

It called on the Federal Government and security agencies to unmask those responsible for the attack, which led to the death of seven persons, and ensure that the criminals faced the full wrath of the law. It stressed that genuine agitations must be separated from criminality.
"IOPCF said the activities of MEND and its utterances in recent times showed that the group had derailed from the struggle for the development of the region, saying that the group’s operations now portend more dangers to the oil
Gbam! End of story. The Goverment was too lenient, that is y i dislike this nonsense govt. God, pls remember me this day, bring me to power so i can build the Nigeria of our dreams. Amen! (does the sign of the cross)

We tend to thiink of this lagos incident as a tribal thing, while lagos is the heart beat of nigeria,it belongs to every nigerian. The problem of nigeria is way beyond tribe,it's about the people,be it yoruba, igbo or hausa,it is about an accountable system that will benefit every all tom, privates and harry. The interest and problems of niger delta mend is just the same as that of ordinary lagosians but with different approaches of dealing with it

The yorubas feel the pinch just like the deltans, everybody is in the same boat with the exception of thieves that call themselves leaders, elites and cleargies

The people should stand with one voice and fight against the iniquities that have befallen them, iniquities of ignorance. Some of them are talking of tv station as achievements while they don't even understand the concept of airwaves, same oyinbo made and installed for us yet we think we are achievers.Big up motherfuckers.
Finish!! This is everything. But some idiots no go hears. Know y they are idiots? Cuz their idiocy make them fight with one another over diferences in culture while the organized criminals in high places made up of igbos, yorubas, hausas and sons of the Niger Delta are chopping away.

Sad thing is, when the shit comes down to war as these MENDers want, the real criminals -Governors and politicians - will take a hike to other countries and let the different factions blast one another. And return again to take their former places, when the dust clears, and the post war tribal idiots who agitated it will have lost but never have learnt. And the cycle of foolishness keep rolling.

Yes, it is on history that the binis and the Yorubas and the reason why southerners will continue to be under the rulership of northerners despite those northerners being illiterates to the core.
Is this one a fact or u r just running ur mouth? So what would you rather have: the south lording it over the north? That will make u feel better? This turn by turn mentality is just plain bullshit, just another "Animal farm wanna be." At the end of the day, it boils down to the same thing: Nigerians have developed a culture of corruption so whether it is Yoruba or igbo or hausa in power, the average nigerian will still not be liberated.

My guy, if ND were any smarter, rulership would have come to the region. Selfishness is just the core motivation behind all this obnoxious agitation. Even the US, a ppl of steeply different backgrounds and cultures dont have all this bullshit. Meanwhile the once who were legitimately born on the relative soils cant handle it.

My apologies if you take umbrage at my words. . . . you are a reasonable fella. . . . my ire is directed at that idiot called CGKing who describes an agitation for federalism as 'stone age mentality', whilst purporting to be holding intelligent discussion . . . it is quite obvious the word intelligent has another meaning in his vocabulary, because I wonder what intelligence he has that eminent people like Gani and Soyinka lack. . . .or what intelligence he has that sharp Nairalanders like Debosky and 4Play lack. . . . I have a short fuse with idiots like that. . . . . since you agreed with him, I did not hesitate to clear the whole deck when spraying my verbal bullets. . . .
Abeg pls, we are allergic to bullshit. Agitation for federalism? Maybe u have mad cow disease. That was how the pirates of somalia branded their activities protests against internatonal fishery.

ocelot2006:
I've noticed that everyone seems to the blaming the Federal Govt for the plights of those that live in the Niger-Delta. And that's understandable as the current administration has been slow in implementing projects that will improve the lives of those that live there.

However, everyone seem to forget that the Federal govt (and the multi-national oil coys) aren't the only ones to blame. This may sound crazy coming from a Niger-Deltan, but I actually have more faith and trust in the aforementioned parties than the state governors, commisioners, local govt chairmen, and councillors, the reason for my statement being that the activities of FG and oil coys are being scrutinized both locally and internationally. The past years have seen the FG allocate additional funds to the state govt. of these states, and yet (apart from Akwa Ibom and Cross River) I'm yet to see any meaningful project that will improve the lives of Niger-Deltans.

But the one group that should also share a portion of the blame are my fellow Niger-Deltans (yes I said it  angry). I've lived, schooled and worked in the region for a number, and I've seen  A LOT of stupidity and foolishness done by our own people in our name. How can you explain a situation where indigenes demand for millions of naira from an FG approved contractor or the oil coys before basic amenities like roads, boreholes, and schools are built in THESE COMMUNITIES?! How about the sabotage of oil pipelines by indigenes so as gain monetary rewards from oil companies? And trust me, that's not all. I've personally witnessed cases where an oil coy (SPDC) actually provided lucrative job oppourtunities for indigenes (high-school leavers) only for them not to turn up for work and take advantage of such oppourtunity (they'll rather turn up on the last day when salaries are being paid, and use the same salaries to, buy nice cars, brilliant  angry). And I haven't even mentioned educational oppourtunities provided by Oil coys. The youths would rather take part in oil bunkering activities rather than focus on studies. Others would actually go for the grants, only for them to spend the money on, you guessed it, more cars, parties and nice cloths (let's get rich fast, the books can wait  angry).

So, I think my fellow Niger-Deltans should also blame themselves. Forget about the usual scape-goats/boogey men (e.g the FG and oil coys), and stop blaming other ethnic groups (hausa, yoruba). We are also part of the problem, and we are definitely part of the solution if we work on ourselves.
Nice, bulky summary of the whole situation. I love it! only i dont like your packaging. You should have kobokoed the thing into their asses instead of petting them. This is the height of degradation and poverty, when a whole man blames another for his situation. Thanks for the first hand info.
PoliticsRe: Fashola Warns Mend by CGKing(m): 4:44pm On Jul 17, 2009
You cant really blame them. They curse and resort to name calling when they run out of intelligent arguments. They fight when they've run out of things to do. He said he is fighting for u and I, yet he wants to kidnap us cos we dont want his war.

No mata wat u say to pre historic men, u'll only get the same answer all the time. Quite paralel to MEND.

Fhemmmy:
great observation.
I am sure the money is from spare parts sales.
Do we have to build our lives around oil alone? Thank God atleast that a source is available so you can fight your cause. But you must borrow a leaf from the African Americans and their cause. They fought wisely and creatively. Are they not African natives? Well it turns out their fight paid off, today Yankee has a black man as no 1. That is the difference btw the white way of thinking and the black.
PoliticsRe: Fashola Warns Mend by CGKing(m): 3:53pm On Jul 17, 2009
I agree Fashola and all Yoruba people na mouth but,
I know quite a number of  properties owned by MEND's TRIBE men in lagos and i and some other colleagues are looking forward to taking over, occupying and becoming the landlord of some of these properties
So MEND get property for Lagos. See am? I think say una say north no let una chop money. Them no know wetin dem want. When the shit goes down, they'd wish they were left in their old predicament.

The world is gearing up to obliterate oil dependence, them dey here dey fight for THEIR oil. Maybe by the time they get what they want, they world's dependence would be on solar energy. They even call it their oil, their oil, very stone age like.

2. in the nigerian democracy, the office of the VP is useless, and made for puppets
Self evident!!! The gave the ND son a puppet office and he took it. Y? Cos selfishness made him forget the reason his war? Wateva the reason, this is the typical example of what we should expect from NDs. In developed nations, if he noticed some shit goin on, he'd quit.

which constitution are u talking about. do we have one?
See, you are not even near govt, your brother is, and since 2yrs ago him neva cry foul but u in the creeks think you see from there better than he does. Let's assume the constitution is shit. What happened to ur brother's head? He forgot his war? So he is a puppet now? His hands are tied. What a shame! Even Dora akinyuli fought all against all odds. He hasnt even said a peep. But men will always want to choose a lie to believe.

didnt u see it work in britain, switzerland, south africa, and other nations. this is an optimistic generation, no one needs a pessimistic view.
Africa is not europe sir, you want to achieve the wonders of the white man using the crude black man tactics. An doru fun yin.

The West always consider the what the following results would be, after their statesments, or millitary operation or any kind of action. But not Naija. They will say wateva, do wateva and inevitably always fail whatsoever. Even though the course of Biafra were just, had they tried to think with their heads and considered the possibilities of the outcome, maybe they wouldnt have committed their their sons to war. Even now their ppl r lamenting that their fathers were killed. How lame!. Expect nothing befter from u champions of the Delta.

2. in the nigerian democracy, the office of the VP is useless, and made for puppets
I dont think so. Have you read the constitution to find out what the powers of the VP are? Is the limitation of the VP from the constitution or from the president? I do not think the VP's office is useless, it's the man in it.

3. i dnt agree with u. the hausa's are not feeling the pains. they are inflicting the pains.
Go on the streets of lagos or anywhere where you are my friend. They are your mayguards, your dustbin carriers, your kole, your workmen, in rags and low standards of life. But iv learnt so much in this life especially when a fool is to fall, blindness will be the least of his challenges

4. other regions have sinced learnt how to deal with the situation, its the pipu of Edo state, Igueben LGA  that shld go ''welda weapon fast''
Proves that the ppl of igueben LGA, of Edo State are not fools, One man said once that 'the majority most times means all the fools are on the same side.' We can think on our own and pin point the real problems in our society and try to take a perfect shot. Never will shallow mindedness be found in us where we would simply assume that slight differences in culture and language is pretext for our limitations.  The same tots of ur forefathers are the same tots you have in this century, no change, nothing new, civilization missed your house abi. Even if the hausa's were lording it, over you, if you were any better, it would be a matter of time before life brings rulership to you.
Are there no successful igbo men and women in government? Are there no ND sons in power? Are all hausa's rich?

The same situation is all over africa, Rwanda,,,,just name. Ppl lost their lives for nothing because after the whole shit, things didnt change. Now the so called great nation of African wants to follow those it ought have led.
I will never be a part of foolishness.
PoliticsRe: Fashola Warns Mend by CGKing(m): 1:57pm On Jul 17, 2009
Cant believe at this informed age we are still talking along the lines of tribalism. Nigeria is one nation, if for some reasons one part of the nation is being neglected, y must the first reason be tribally related? Its because you are all tribalistic which means if an ND man manages to come into power, the north and every other ethnic groups will be neglected. Worse still they will do the same things the say the present govt is doing: settling themsleves.

Howbeit a son of ND is VP, r u saying there's still no impact? Whatever he is achieving right now is the same with what any other will achieve, even Mr Okah. ND regions have governors, do they not get financial allocations? What have they done with it so far? Anyway, we cant stop you from making your noise, your agitations will only cause you to be wiped out alone or wiped out with many innocent ppl.

I am from Edo state, Igueben LGA and if the Nigerian Govt is set to put down any kind of major militancy, i will be the first to weld a weapon.

Everyone is feeling the pains all over, the hausas, the yorubas, the edos,, everyone! Go and learn how to react to difficult situations and stop igniting fires u can not handle.

you pipu talk as if u have not been following events. aint u aware that the niger delta pipu have tried severally without success to talk/dialogue/ with govt. some of them were even killed to shut them up. now they carry arms, and everyone is suddenlly conscious of whats happening there.
Look like i have always told pipu who are quick to condemn their actions. first, visit the niger delta and see where 80% of the nations wealth is coming from, and ask your self if they have been treated fairly. i never speak on a matter that i dont have good information about. and i think thats 1 problem in nija, pipu just talk without proper knowledge about whats going on.
I'm sure if one of ur family members died in the atlas Cove bombing (God forbid), you'd be singing a different song. You should know that this problem has transcended so many governments, and the silencing of proponents of the Niger Delta long ago was carried out by a government we all condemed. So y is MEND frustrating everyone? Y didnt they show up when we have a military govt? Stupid cowards.

What they should be doing now is a renewed attempt at getting this new government's attention through a lawful and peaceful movement. If the government were was it ought to be, MEND wont even survive 1 week. If the govt launched a serious military campaign, think MEND will survive a night? Stop taking lenience for weakness.

People who said they've been deprived, just deprived 7 families of their loved ones, who never knew jack about jill, no hope of ever seeing them again. Doing the same things they condemn the govt for.

I'm always amused by the rantings of my yoruba brothers. Have you seen a yoruba man fight? First of all, he would start fighting with the air or should i say unseen forces, throwing his fist in the air saying ma pa e, ma fo e lori( i will kill you, i will break your head) and at the end of the day he can't do no shit. It is a known fact that my brothers from the SW are cowards and can't fight no physical war. Let them stop all these rantings and let us talk serious business of how to rescue Nigeria from these looters. The yoruba are very good with hypocrisy and propaganda and that can be very useful if turned to better use. The Lagos/ibadan print and electronic media has a lot of role to play in this fight to save what is remaining of our country. It time the people of the SW come down from the fence and let us join hands together and fight this battle once and for all. Playing second fiddle or acting as book keepers to the Northern oligarchy would never secure the future of your children. A word is enough for the wise and the time to act is now!
