Like someone once said about modern day prophecies - the prophecy is just an arrow, it's ppl that provide the target. Most prophecies are this vague, it's always followers desperately trying 2 draw a connection between the prophecy and an event that may just be one of many instances |
@ladanski great stuff man. I'm actually surprised you could pull this off within a short period. I guess u could always refine parts of it make the general quality better, but overall nice job. So, the winner by defualt ![]() |
Organizing 3d contests like this is a very good idea. There should be more of that here. The deadline however is too short. It'll be difficult to produce anything of acceptable quality within this period. @ OP, i would have started with something lighter. @ladanski good work so far. |
Really inspiring stuff ![]() Only caught part of it on CNN by chance, but the name of their website completely skipped my mind. Thanks OP 4 bringing this up |
WOW! i'm impressed Always knew there was a programming section on nairaland but i didn't know we had ppl doing work on this level. It's funny just last week someone started a thread about the possibillity of designing games in nigeria I think u should also post this on the graphics section too 4 more publicity |
Salmoneus: My advice would be uninstall flash (if you have it) get a pen and paper, learn to draw then open MS Paint and get the book animator's survival guide, learn frame by frame animation...I wish someone had told me that years ago, I would be on another level by now...it's not about software really...Very true, though i wouldn't advice u remove flash for MS Paint , but i get your point. Once u learn the fundamentals, say for example from animator's survival kit, u should feel comfortable animating regardless of the tools u choose for creation- pen & paper, wacom tablet, Flash, anime studio ,Toon Boom e.t.c.Learning any software is a lot easier than mastering the fundamentals of any art form. |
No p! got ur mail, replied already. |
The most common and best way to learn is get training materials from the net. Besides learning the software it's very important to learn the fundamental principles of animation. Once you learn this you should be able to animate well regardless the software. |
Glad to see you're still on this.Looking good so far. BTW, how long do you think it will take to complete this project |
Who still says game development isn't possible?....and just as abokishop said, no u don't need necessarily need a large team. But I'll also add that it depends on the kind of game you are making. I have a friend who's developing a platformer (using flash) on his own and its looking pretty decent so far. He does the programming and art alone, although he admits getting more artists involved would make things faster. I also know of a few other games developed here ,though mostly for mobile devices. You can look up Kuluya studios. I personally have a bit of experience in game development using Unity3D. I'm sure some of us are also familiar with other free game engines like Unreal and CryEngine which have made game dev. more accessible for smaller teams. Obviously if want to develop something on the level of Halo, MGS, Uncharted e.t.c you'll need a big team of very talented artists and programmers. Not sure we are ready for that. My advice for anyone trying to get into game dev in Nigeria is to look into the growing mobile/indie games market - research on mobile games like angry birds, temple run to the crop of indie games emerging on PC/Consoles. Start with that before u try "d one wey go blow person PC" ![]() Just my 2kobo |
Great stuff! Always excited to see artists tackle projects like this....it really isn't easy. Of course, there's always the tendency to compare the quality with hollywood vfx movies but considering some of the unique challenges we face here i think it's more important to show support, that way we can help artists produce works of even greater quality. Really interested to see what u guys come up with next |
really amazin work! |
@kazuna honestly my only critique is the pic of Genevive in the background, lol. Her poster looks out of place I'm very impressed with the texturing. The scene really look grimy. Maybe u could roughen the poster a bit(like the edges) Was this all done in blender too? |
@shady at first when i saw the ur clip with the white dude in the background i thought u got d whole thing from a tutorial. Good 2 know u did d whole thing from scratch. |
reidkrugger: what is missing in the scene? i‘ve seen something like this aired on cable & Tvc. one adventurous cartoon consisting of 3 male six legged insects “not quite sure now“ and one female of same kind. the animation to it is even nairaland standard or worse.i know the cartoon u talking about and yes it doesn't look fantastic, but nairaland standard....haba! Like i said i really admire the effort, this is something i've tried in the past and i'm fully aware of the challenges. One advice i would give so as 2 reduce poly count - i feel the belly of the animals should be a texture instead of using an extrusion and then smoothing/subdividing.But then again maybe u want it that way Again keep up the good work, whatever the outcome u would have learnt a lot from this and future projects would even be much better |
Honestly, quality is not quite there yet, but i respect that ur working hard on this project and u would have learnt and improved a great deal by the time u r done. |
Hello, everyone, new to the forums and would just like to say great job. @OKX Obviously still needs more work, but having made a few failed attempts at a short myself I'm aware of the challengesand hope you pull through. |
