Mekky2010: BA = Internatinal Relations and Foreign Policy MA = Globalization and Conflict Management PhD = History of International Relations and Foreign Policy ( concluded 2012)
All was done in Russia, initially as a private student but was later awarded a scholarship for masters and later PhD, there are good chances of securing scholarships for PhD, however, language barrier will be a deterring factor, hence, preference is usually given to those with sound knowledge of the language, thesis are written and defended in Russian in the presence of about 30 professors from various institutions.
My advise to any intending applicant is work as if your defense is the next day, else you ll be frustrated half way and pull out, close to 60% of students I knew never defended...some of the professors that ll be reviewing your work as you move on may be highly insensitive in their criticism, this can be highly frustrating especially when you know you have put so much hours in the library to get the work done.
Persistence is the key!!!! congrats and thanks for insight.we share similar area of interest-B.A-history and international studies(project area-nigeria's post-cold war foreign policy challenges),M.A(in view),phd(in view), currently trying to register for GRE and ielts, drafted sop in development studies, peace and conflict studies, and in international politics.I seriously need a scholarship. |

IHATESCHOOL: Hello,
There is no special, or say, separate scholarship application. There is an option to automatically apply for half or full scholarship alongside your MDP application. Such scholarship application is however always highly competitive, as every NON-EU/EEA will definitely want to get the tuition free thingy (even if some could ordinarily afford to pay the tuition fees, scholarship would be a plus to them and that's only rational), most especially for the fact that the scholarship application is too easy and straight forward, as all they need do is click on the scholarship option too, even if they may not eventually get it. Therefore, the top (say first 10%, 15% and so on, as the case may be) applicants are usually considered. It's 'mostly strictly' based on merits.
It's actually very possible you apply for a full scholarship and get half or nothing but just the admission, or not even get admitted, not to talk of getting the "scho" in "scholarship". I'll just advise you apply for/to as many programmes and or unis, respectively, as you can, in order to increase your chances. That being said, your application(s) should be well compiled/packaged and unique, as that can make you stand out and will definitely make a great contribution to being successful in your application(s), as very competitive as it may seem. I hope this helps.
BR congrats for your scholarship.please I sent you a mail.kindly reply please. |

Education › Re: Information Thread for International Postgraduate Programs by chaiks: 5:56pm On May 23, 2017 |
happyday: Hi all! Just seeing this, so I figure I should drop a hint or two. FYI, US (post)graduate schools don't advertise admissions the way other countries do theirs. It's a standard practice that every year interested and motivated students would apply to schools of their choosing, based on what they want from a US graduate degree.
For the most part, you have to DIY. To apply to US grad schools (esp STEM), you'll need to send your transcripts (which include your undergrad GPA), convince 2/3 people to recommend you, write a statement of purpose explaining your reason for getting a grad degree, take tests (the most common for STEM courses is the GRE), and also the TOEFL (to prove you can survive on English-speaking campus like those in in America).
These should get you admitted, if you choose the right mix of schools.
The other part is the money. If you do a very good job of selling yourself well, (and you're lucky!), most schools will cover your tuition, and then pay you a stipend every month, so you can help some Profs with their research. So, you get a degree, and alongside get paid to get research experience. A good deal, if you ask me.
All the best to everyone!this I'll be nice.please I have some documents except GRE.I'll write it soon when money comes. for the TOEFL part, can one use proficiency proof obtained from ones school as an alternative? is GRE a must for ones application to be considered ?kindly help please.please can Canadian schools give scholarship without GRE? |

happyday: They don't need first class graduates, they want those who are motivated and self-driven. The theory is, students who are motivated often finish with first class degrees. If you happen to not graduate with that, you'll need to show them your potential through other different ways. Apply still. serious? wanted to apply but saw only those with GPA of 4.5 and above.so 4.49 can't apply? |

Travel › Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by chaiks: 9:06pm On May 21, 2017 |
PNZD: To the best of my Knowledge, this is not true. They do give direct admission to international students. Although you have to be eligible to gain such. Their masters program is in two parts: taught and research. You can choose if you want to study for 1-yr, 18-months or 2years but I'm not sure this option covers all their Masters programmes.
Taught masters is made up of taught courses and may include a research project. You must have completed an undergraduate program from any recognized university with good grades. I read that some may require work experience so check the postgraduate site properly.
For a research masters, you must have completed a postgraduate diploma from the university or a postgraduate taught qualification from any recognized university and you will need a supervisor. I guess this is the origin of your question.
Please note that not all masters programme have these options.
My advice, go through the POSTGRADUATE website properly, both general and the departmental of your institution of interest. Also check the FAQs page of the proposed institution. If you still are not satisfied with the information, DO NOT HESITATE to contact the graduate studies secretary and postgraduate students information desk or however they call them. You can also ask them for information on supervisors. Best of luck.@pnzd, thanks for your informative post.I want to study in new Zealand for masters degree.I did history and international studies here in Nigeria and I'll be going for masters in either international relations or development studies.please is it possible for one to get full scholarship in new Zealand even if one should select the school that ranked low there?I v checked my course and found university of otago.can I get funding there relatively? I v downloaded there data base and currently developing a research proposal and looking for money to write ielts.my emphasis is on scholarship even if its full tuition waiver.do you think I stand a chance with a cgpa of 4.49 ?is it possible for something like direct PhD from bachelors there?I await your guide please. |

its true graduating with a poor grade I'll somehow affect you.but in present day Nigeria and d world,it shouldn't stop one from achieving his goals.we are in a world of globalization.so many skills and business opportunities and routes to live good life.its just that the Nigerian society makes it look as if people who graduated with good grades but have no connection committed a crime.I am victim of that.I came out d best graduating student in my dept (not first class though)but uptill now no show for job.I am presently trying to acquire ICT skills to complement my profile.in Nigeria ,once you graduate with a good or bad grade, you can be successful if you have connection, acquire proper ICT skill, master d environment you live to know the kind of business that I'll thrive there, and above all pray constantly for gods grace.for those that have good grades,I have come to think that looking up for scholarships abroad for further studies I'll be ideal,at least in low profile universities in some countries.this might pave a way.language skill is another good buck.expand your contact, get in touch with your classmates who didn't grad with a good grade .they might be connected more than you.above all ,continue to meet people and pray always. |

So I think the school I applied to worked on the unofficial copy. That really helped me cos my official transcript got to UAF after the stipulated deadline.
