it depends on the sch n besides you dnt need to be apprehensive towards GRE,always be optimistic n make Ur research online, base on the type of English test in which you are given, not all schs in Canada or us request for English test e.g Concordia college in the USA is a private college and their English test is optional n they also give out scholarship...
tnks for replying.its just that the GRE requires enough time for one to prepare well to pass it.for the English test,I v registered already.am just trying to see if a good score in that together with other documents can help me get funded for masters in Canada even if its a low tier school.

In terms of volunteering, it is a quick way to start up her CV. Many young people in Nigeria want to go straight to a job (which is alright) but volunteer work is a great way to build knowledge and networks. NGOs are always looking for extra hands, especially on legal issues. Law Firms (the prestigious ones) might also be open to volunteers but sadly in Nigeria, you have to know someone in order to ask around about such opportunities. In case it is international volunteer experience she is looking for, there are so many options available and she doesn't need to know anyone prior to applying. I was able to volunteer at international NGOs and do an internship with the UN by simple online applications. She is only 18 and I dare say that opportunities for her will be much more, the key is to keep searching and keep an open mind!
hello.please can you link me up with any international volunteer organization?I have a B.A in international studies.how can I apply or search for DAT online?if you don't mind,we can as well exchange contact to rub minds on specific research interests and career issues as I see you are an international relations scholar.

every schools in the USA request for TOEFL or any equivalent, but there are some schools n colleges that it's ENGLISH proficiency is optional....whereby u write your admission officer in order to defend Nigeria as an ENGLISH speaking in order to waive it for you with documentation in case if us consul ask for a waiver letter...I got a cousin that deals with us n Canada schools n college.... his friend is presently in Virginia for his masters...
please is it possible for one to get into Canadian school for masters without ielts and GRE and still get funding for liberal arts courses.I v a letter from my school for English proficiency. but d idea of GRE scares.besides,am emphasizing on funding for masters in courses like international relations, international development studies.

PhD research is an independent research and in NZ universities u need a very good MSc. and a research experience. However, my advice for you is to also consider Australian universities I am expecting some admission letters from some schools there. You can apply for MRes i.e. Master by research with your CGPA and if you have at least One international journal you will be qualified for a full scholarship. I Wish you the best.
thank you well.

Don't call any agent and don't let them scam you. Ielts is 68000, everything you need to know is on the website. Also it's very easy for you to register and pay by yourself, all online. So get to work. Materials will also be provided for you to prepare by British council after you have paid.
I'm sure the 'agent' you called doesn't work for British council.
thank you well for this.I v been wondering because I saw 68 k online when I googled it.please do you know if they have centre in enugu and whether people do take it there.tnks

You don't need any English proficiency test if your language of instruction in your previous studies was English language. If you are going for Phd you need good cgpa mine was 4.15/5.00 in my MSc. in Nigeria. I applied for a phD in Science and research area is similar to what I did at my MSc. here in Nigeria. Please try and spend time to study the admission requirements it's unique to schools and department. The same cgpa that was accepted at UC was refused by Uni. Auckland and Massey University. I wish you the best.
OK.tanks.but please I want to know the possibility of applying for direct PhD from bachelors.am cleared about d English test since Nigeria is an English speaking country. besides,I v gotten a letter of English proficiency proof from my school here and a transcript of 4.49cgpa.do I stand a chance if I apply for PhD or should I apply for masters first instead of PhD.I am asking because I heard its done in USA but I don't have all d requirements for Yankee now.

I applied for a PhD directly. Firstly you need to check out the school web page and I know their requirements. For, university of Canterbury you need a supervisor first before you proceed for application because he/she must be part of the reviewer of your application process. What I did in mine was I checked for a supervisor that have the interest of research so I sent her a mail (email). It wasn't easy but check their recent publications and know what they have don't in terms of research innovation. Them suggest it and they might like it. So she/he might ask for your proposal which comprises of suggested title, Brief background, aim/objectives, material and methodology and reference.
OK.thanks.I have seen d profile of profs and their specialization in university of otago.am gradually coming up with a proposal because I want it to be ready bf mailing them.now please did you do the ielts?what's your course and cgpa if you don't mind?did you pay application fee and like how much if?am looking towards uni Canterbury, uni otago and uni Auckland.

this is bad.what I'll the person do with with 30k?its not a crime to get foreign education,UK of all places.I fault the idea of coming back to Nigeria immediately. let her quickly initiate a PhD to immigrant friendly countries like Australia, new Zealand, Sweden,Canada,Norway, etc.at least the money you I'll be paid in d course of part time job or PhD stipend if you get scholarship I'll quadruple that useless 30k.just find a way to leave immediately for further studies.you can as well do certification program in needed courses in those countries and then get your permanent residency.it I'll pan out well .

I want to sincerely thank everyone in this forum. The information thus far have been very supportive. I currently received conditional offer for phd at UC. The conditional is based on evidence of scholarship or personal funding, although I clicked UC scholarship during my application. I am still trying to work with my supervisor on securing scholarship. Please I your advice.
congrats.it I'll surely pan out well.if I may ask,did you apply for direct PhD?if,did you submit a proposal and secured a supervisor before?what were d documents you submitted in d process of d application including any test?

Many schools in Canada do not require GRE, but they do state that its an added advantage. And yes, IELTS or TOEFL is part of the standardized tests.

It will really help if you publish your undergrad thesis. A good rapport with your supervisor can also help you get on other research he or she is working on.

All the best
OK.thank you brother.

Your undergrad cgpa is good enough for many tier1 and midtier schools. Your standardized test result will further aid your ambition. A direct PhD depends more on your research experience, publications and conferences.

As regards schools, you have not provided me with enough details to help; your department and the likes, even if you do, the bulk of the work is on you.

Go through this thread https://www.nairaland.com/3586207/general-u.s.a-student-visa-enquiries-part and read assiduously, you will find similar profiles and the school they applied to.

You can also visit Thegradcafe.com, search for your course and you'll find many profiles too.

The grad School hustle depends on how proactive one can be. Just do the needful.

Best regards.
OK.thanks for replying.my dept is history and international studies .I intend to master in either peace and conflict studies or international development studies.please when you say standardized test,is ielts included?are there schools that can accept application with funding in Canada without GRE but with ielts or toefl?though my priority remains USA.I presently have no publication. thinking of publishing my undergraduate project.for the links you referred,I I'll go through them painstakingly. thanks.

I really don't know much about Nigerian universities. But I'll generalise.
4.1/5 is a decent score. Like I said, for a PhD admission, they are more keen on how well you can carry out research. You should have very solid publications in top notch journals.
Even if you don't, the purported mediocre research you have done might be enough to earn you an admission, and perhaps full funding in some not too elite institutions abroad. you just have to put in work.
Cheers!
please rexcheeng, can you suggest even if a low profile uni where one can get scholarship for masters.finished undergraduate with a 4.49 cgpa.about to reg ielts and gre.please do you see my chances of scholarship for masters and is a direct PhD possible?
