what should an international relation graduate who wants to study abroad or get internship do?.hello brothers ,we all know that in Nigeria, a course like history and international studies is not a hot one when it comes to the job market. In abroad ,we know they still value research in social sciences and arts and students of such normally go for internships in another country before they graduate. Here ,its not so.now as a graduate with an impressive result but currently had no job, what I'll you advise the person to do or are there eligible study abroad scholarships the person can apply for?your input I'll be appreciated. |

dogice: Bro, your GPA is fine either way, though I understand that you really want to capitalize on your last two years since your grades are even better which makes perfect sense. When I applied for my Masters, UofT used my last two years but I had to submit my full transcript. You might have to research what the schools want specifically as I do not know for individual schools.
As per funding, it depends on so many factors such as your grades, letter of intent, your program of study, your connection with the professors etc. Also, funding could be in form of a research grant, teaching Assistantship, scholarship etc.
And btw, a low profile school does not necessarily mean an easy way to funding, you only have a higher chance of securing an admission. Most times the bigger schools have more connection with companies, government agencies and all and you'd except these organization to invest in the bigger schools for their research program rather than the smaller schools therefore, these schools have more access to money. So in short, funding is never sure but you can increase your chances by writing a badass Letter of Intent, very professional resume and do GRE. thank u bro for this notification.my intended course of study is international development studies.pure international relations follows or related areas like peace and conflict.now, will I have to write GRE for these courses coupled with English tests ?I understand now uni Toronto uses d last two years.are there bother ones you know?I v been trying to search tru nairaland but only saw one unisaskachewan.pls where you admitted when you applied and did they give you scholarship?just wanted to know how to organize myself so that this yr I'll not be a waste. |

dogice: You'd still end up with approximately 3.73 outta 4.00. That's a very good GPA by the way. thanks brother.I appreciate ur input.based on this,I feel it will be cool to identify schools that I'll use the last two years of undergrad as a basis for calculating and giving admission or grant.please do you know schools DAT normally use d last two yrs order Dan d whole yr of d transcript.again,do you feel one can qualify for funding with sth of D's nature even if its a low profile school? |
Travel › Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by chaiks: 6:50pm On Jan 18, 2017 |
dogice: Hello,
Most post secondary institution in Canada go with a scale of 4.00 (I know UToronto is outta 4) but technically speaking, you can convert to any scale you like. In this case, your overall CGPA will be [(4.49/5) x 4] = 3.59.
In order to calculate your last 2 years, it depends on the number of credit you took in each of these years. So assuming you took equal amount of credit courses for those 2 years (say 60 credit courses each), you can just scale down to a scale of 4 using the weighted average.
i.e. [(0.5 x 4.75) + (0.5 x 4.58)] = 4.665 then [(4.665/5) x 4] = 3.73 thank you for taking out time to clarify this.please concerning d last two yrs ,my transcript have total grade points as 157 and total credit units as 33 for the whole of third year and then total grade point of 160 and total credit units as 35 for the while of final year.please what I'll it now be in Canadian scale.I aprct. |
Travel › Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by chaiks: 6:51am On Jan 18, 2017 |
dogice: Your grade point should be fine for most schools sir. Yours is roughly 3.5 on a scale of 4 which most schools use. You might also need to write IELTS since you did not school here (not sure about that) and submit your resume and letter of intent which is mandatory for everyone. You also need to provide references. The overall decision is made on these factors. Cost of living depends on the city you live/the kind of lifestyle you live sir. @dogice,please wat will a cgpa of 4.49 out of 5 be on a Canadian scale?the last two yes of my undergrad was 4.75 and 4.58 .I don't know how to convert it to Canadian scale to know. |

I have a B.Sc Industrial Chemistry ( 4.01/5), Pgd Chemical Engineering ( Distinction ).
I applied for a Canadian admission for MSc.E Chemical Engineering. Normally for your admission to be successful you need to secure a supervisor whose research interest is similar to yours. I have done that and he encouraged me to apply. I submitted my application and after going through my application with other supporting documents like letter of motivation and others, he sent me a mail this afternoon that they want to consider me PhD instead of MSc I applied for. I'm very confused right now if to accept it or not considering high standard of education abroad as I use to hear, I haven't experienced foreign education before, this is my first. I appreciate congrats to you.this still shows u are a genius.but please did you submit a kind of research proposal when you applied and did you write English test? |

Well. D need for reshuffle is of immense importance so that we can Kickstart 2017 on a lighter note unlikunlike 2016 yr of suffering. Kayode fayemi should be moved to ministry of foreign affairs or education where he I'll deploy his skill of strategic planning. Solid mineral should be manned by a technocrat. Amaechi should be moved to Labour ministry to ensure due process. He is still causing problem everywhere because of the good relationship he share with pmb. The minister of budget and national planning should be removed and replaced with someone with good statistical knowledge. We need no prophet to tell us to shake off the current ministry of finance. I know this govt inherited a lot of problems. But there is so much confusion in adeosun. Pmb should be considering contacting Charles soludo by now. He is a home bread economist with vast knowledge of statistics. The ministry of power, housing and works should be splitter separately as it was before. Let us not confuse ourselves in the name of cutting cost. |

It has not crashed yet. I wonder why this panic and news all over Dat mmm is no more. People should read information very well to avoid unwarranted spewing of thrash that might kill others of hbp. Let us obey, be positive and wait till January to know developments. You remember the similar case with ultimate cycle. I can now log in. Just a matter of few more days, things I'll begin to function as usual. We are in a world of globalization. So networking business has come to stay. neverever10: And please guys don't make a mistake I made years back please please don't apply to study in Bulgarian language cause it will take your time.. apply for English taught courses..one thing they (schools) like here is money $$ you have money every other thing is possible.. most schools outside Sofia don't have good English teachers cause they don't wanna source for good ones that will charge them huge salary... be careful there is NO JOB here... few Bulgarians are unemployed talk much of you a black.. although I have friends working but the pay is useless..many Bulgarians want to leave their country for greener pasture.. most people I met here always ask me why Bulgaria? Why not other good European countries lol please come here for education strictly.. life is somehow cheap here.. Sofia, Varna, Burgas any other city apart from these three you are in for a long ride.. I have been to plovdiv myself I didn't see a single black man even the way they looked at me as alien convinced me that there is no black people there.. Am not discouraging anybody but don't expect much from here. And again moving to other European countries is a lot more easier from here but first you need to have your residence card then again you need to go and apply for visa of the country you wanna go.. you can only go to Romania and Turkey with your residence card. When I travelled to Austria to renew my passport in Nigerian embassy I had to apply for a shengen visa which is very stressful again cause you need to provide account statement and also student book from school and a lot of documents lol guys prepare yourself well tnks for a detailed first hand experience about Bulgaria. I was actually thinking of Austria bf I stumbled on Bulgaria. I am enticed by the fact u said life is cheap there. But if I were to ask, how did you see Austria in terms of hussling and study? Do you think it's a place one can stay behind after studies? I know this is not a thread about Austria but since you mentioned u went to renew ur visa there, I was expecting maybe you might v a lille clue about life there. |

This is injustice at d highest level. I was reading through, anxious to see wat he stole but I didn't. Do we have government in ds country? Are we civilized? Even in Europe, if you got caught with drug related offensce, you won't be sentenced to death unlike in Asian, not to talk of theft. Why not charge him, and make him pay twice for wat he stole? If you were among those that participated in this dastardly act, ask yourself, have I for once taken sth that does not belong to me? It'd bad that some of us do no longer respect the sanctity of life. The case is not a murder case nor attempted murder. Even if. Why this?
