2:2 is not a bad result at all, it is similar to having 3/5 in a test. Most of the people that came out with first class and 2:1 did so because of the assignments and attendance marks that boosted their marks in school. If u don't attend classes properly and u don't do your assignments regularly whenever u are given an assignment, it simply means u are not going to earn your attendance and assessments marks respectively and this will definitely bring about a MINUS in your grade but that does not mean u are not intelligent. A lot of things can make u miss lectures and assignments in school, for instance sickness, and other problems. If the people that came out with first class from their school did not attend classes and do their assignments properly, do u think they will have first class?. Nevertheless some of them paid 4 it in cash or in kind.

Bishops of the Dioceses in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion have urged the Senate and Federal House of Representatives not to pass any bill that would make the proposed Islamic bank to see the light of the day.

The Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma who disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu also warned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to approve the establishment of the bank, insisting that the emergence of a religious bank would pose serious threat to the unity of the country.

Dr. Chukwuma, the bishops and the Primate of the Anglican Church, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, had rejected Islamic bank after their meeting recently, saying that they did so because of its “religious connotation.”

The bishops also argued that the CBN was not constitutionally empowered to establish an Islamic bank, pointing out that the bank would contravene the CBN Act.
Bishop Chukwuma disclosed that the Anglican Church would embark on a protest if the apex bank ignores its position on the issue, warning that they would equally pass a vote of no confidence on CBN if it approves the bank.

He insisted that there was no need to establish an Islamic bank in a multi-religious country like Nigeria, saying that the coming of the bank would only cause confusion in the country.
“Nigeria is not an Islamic country. Islamic bank is unconstitutional because it is not in the CBN Act. We reject the establishment of the bank. It has religious connotation. The Senate and House of Representatives should not pass the bill,” he said.

Reason is that you start applying for those jobs from where you are. Fact is, jobs are very few in Nigeria, and competition is high. So you have to start pitching yourself to those companies. Visit Nigerian career sites, go on LinkedIn and try to connect to recruiters focusing on Nigeria, and even check out the career pages of top bluechip companies in Nigeria. The question you're asking on NL is not going to help much.

Exactly my point.Getting job this days is more of strategy.Abroad is even the worst hit in terms of unemployment.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, who made this known, weekend, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said of the 8,221 graduands for the programme slated for June 18, 16 bagged first class honours, adding that the best graduating student, Miss Dietake Oke had a cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.68.
He added that one of the highlights of the convocation will be the launching of a N5bn endowment fund for accelerated development of physical infrastructure and capacity development of the institution.

I find it disgusting when I hear Nigerians saying that the "quality of graduates produced by Nigerians universities is so bad", what a ridiculous and sadistic thing to say!   . If the quality of Nigerian graduates is supposedly so bad, then how come these same graduates go to universities outside Nigeria and end up at the top of their class with First class and Distinctions? It also does not make any sense that someone achieved a First class in Nigeria because he memorized the lecturer's notes, and regurgitated verbatim during the exams.

I finished my first degree in Nigeria with a 2.1, a couple of points shy of a First class; I have just finished my MSc in the UK with a Distinction, and the best research thesis score in the whole university. I achieved my MSc result on the basis of the strong background I had during my undergraduate studies in Nigeria. So I am particularly pissed when I hear fellow Nigerians speak shite about our Nigerian universities, because I know from first hand experience that Nigerian university graduates are making exploits and breaking records worldwide.

My dear, sadly, that is the reality.Our graduates are nothing to right home about.We are talking about the spread of learning and knowledge.A situation where only but a handful can be called graduates in the right sense of it is pitiful.Take the case of a graduating class of 150, and only about 20% or so come out as real university graduates (maybe this 20 % is where you fall in).I mean, it's really bad.

Yes, most of our students do well abroad, but these are our very best and brightest competing with maybe the 2.2 or third class from Asia and other parts of the world in the same class.Take them to Harvard etc where the competition is stiff and evaluate your result.

It's is only in Nigeria that banks require someone to have a first class before he/she will be employed as a teller.First class and maybe 2.1 are mostly required in jobs that demand a high level of mental and intellectual robustness, self discipline and clear attention to details.These are mainly jobs with consulting firms, investment banks, research institutes, oil and gas, telecom etc.This is because of the nature of the job done.So, it is pertinent to entrust such jobs to people who have shown these attributes through their performances at the school level.

Bench-marking employability on 2.1 and first class by Nigerian banks and other organisations that don't even involve in any of the above is rather ridiculous, if not nonsensical.Most of the jobs involving business strategy formulation are done at the top management level, so, employing someone with a first class or 2.1 to work as a bank teller is utter malapropism.

My lecturer those days would say that even a slowpoke could work in the bank.Most Nigerian companies don't even do any serious job that requires intellectual stimulation.Bulk of their jobs are mainly paper work, admin, marketing and maybe office politicking Saying that someone with a grade less than a 2.1 is a mediocre is arrant nonsense.

We can only encourage people to do the best they can while in school, but tying their success or otherwise in life to the grades they graduated with is out of place.

For those of you that are still in school and are running their mouths against the boy's father, if you don't make atleast a 2:1 your chance of getting a good job is very slim. Most Oil companies, Banks and Telecom companies peg entry requirements at 2:1. Forget about man-know-man, it's only very few people that make it thru such. No company will want to flood it's offices and operations with mediocres. If you work very hard you can get that dream job without knowing even a cleaner in the company.

Hello again, I read your reply, I'm very sorry if I said something that hurted someone, but I have my (PERSONAL) reasons. I have lost a relative who went to work in south america coz he was killed recently, and this is my first employment ever, I did not want to be rude at all, now I know that many information are made bigger than they really are, so I thank all of You.

I agree that many countries have less problems than what I read on newspapers, I remember when I was in Venezuela that it was very dangerous to walk in the late afternoon in Caracas, but of course most of the people there were very nice and kind. I'm sure it can be the same in Nigeria, but while in Venezuela i knew many people there, in Nigeria I don't know anyone. Sorry if I hurted you man.

Abuja, is really a nice and cool place to live in.Trust me on this.There is little or no security threat and the infrastructure is same as what you can see in most state capitals of the world, though there is electricity problem.Nigerians are also peaceful and loving, aside a few ethnic disturbances.There many good places to live in Abuja, but i think your questions have been answered here:

You are very safe in Nigeria. Abuja is about the safest and best place to live in Nigeria.Be rest assured. As you asked their are no housing estates in the NNPC Towers in Abuja. And there are recreation centers in Town where you can enjoy recreation activities. Besides NNPC has some excellent hotels where their staff can relax for recreation purposes.These are the Agura Hotel and also the Chelsea Hotel.

1 Is the place around the company safe?
2 , about the nnpc real estate flats, are they in the nnpc towers structures or outside?

Having a first class in a Nigerian university is hardly a measure of raw intelligence. . .it's  however  a measure of an unrelenting determination to succeed against all odds, with some extra memory capacity!

1st or third, what is important is the individual who possess it not the grade.But that does not mean we should discredit guys who worked very hard to make a 1st or 2.1 against all odds.

I do not really think the father should be called names. It is the situation in our land that make parents to behave like this. Most job adverts state 2:1 as minimum requirement. I was not happy when one of my daughters ended up with a 2:2. First, I knew if she had focused on her studies while at school, she would have made a First class. But she allowed herself to be distracted by fashion and boys and even though I kept warning her, she did not listen until it was too late. If she had not sat up in her final year she would have had a 3rd Class.

Now its one thing to advise the guy to get a job and move out. But where are the jobs? One is not saying that to make a 2:2 or 3rd Class is the end of life but how many parents have funds to send their children to England. Rich parents most times do not care what grades their children make because they have the necessary connection and funds to send their children overseas.

My opinion is that children from poor homes should realize that the odds are against them heavily iof they do not make the right grades in Nigeria.

And it is not true that parents expect their children to do what they could not do. I graduated with a 2:1 at 20 from the University of Ibadan. Every parent wants the best for their children. Besides when the children are unable to secure jobs they still remain the responsibility of the parents!

A caged lion is no different from the goat in the street.When the right environment is not made available for the 1st class guys to function, the result is not always encouraging.Take a stock of those who made 1st class and then come back and give report.About 70% of them are doing excellently well in whatever endeavour they found themselves.Them, take an inventory of those with third class, then compare your result.

Yes, I am avoiding a PhD. A PhD is, in fact, my last resort-- I am also ready to work anywhere in the world. If the opportunity is in Niaja, then I do not mind, provided I lead an above average life. As you already indicated, I will finish graduate studies early next year. I am just trying to play smart and to get the requisite info that will help me or give me an edge in the job market when I am fully ready.

From all indication, the poster wants to return home.He needs strategies and opinions on how to secure job quickly upon arrival.You are advising him to stay on and look for good.Do you think an MSc holder is not smart enough to have considered various options before deciding to head back home?Do you think he has not thought of gaining some work experience before his decision to return?Who will foot his bills why he waits for the job?Do you think everybody wants to live and work abroad?

He is yet to conclude his program and now is the best time to make some good moves.I do understand that work experience is very vital in securing a job these days, but people decide returning home base on various reasons.A friend of mine has been waiting to secure a job for the past six months now in the US whereas his counterparts who returned home have all secured jobs and are living happily.

Don't mind them, easier said than done.Everybody says, get some work experience without realising that there are no jobs.Maybe they expect you to work at the train station as a cleaner with your Msc.

On the topic. If you have a 2.1 it will be much easier to get a job within a few period, this is because you stand a better chance of being shortlisted for apt tests and interviews.Also, try to prepare very well for apt test using SHL and GMAT, that will help you pass tests thereby giving you a better chance of being called for interviews.

Moreso, try and visit some job websites like naijahotjobs, nairaland career and vacancy section etc and also try and apply to websites of companies.I believe getting a job is a strategy, adopt the ones that will be effective for you.

Since you are a law graduate, why not develop some writing skills?Start writing articles for news papers etc.

why not read some e-books during this time?Save it on the desktop and read from there.By doing so you will be able to gain some knowledge that might be handy in the future.
