Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Kaduna State chapter, Bishop David Bakare, has advised Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to resign from office before advocating the introduction of Islamic banking in the country.

In a statement yesterday in Kaduna, Bishop Bakare said that Sanusi would be better off in the Islamic banking agenda if he (Sanusi) were a religious leader.

The fire-spitting cleric therefore, advised the CBN boss to choose between the idea of Islamic banking and his job at the nation’s apex bank, saying that advocating for a religious banking at this time of political crisis in the country could aggravate the tensed situation.

According to the statement, “Honestly, if Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi had done this advocacy for Islamic banking as a religious leader, it would have made a better sense than as a government official. Therefore, Sanusi should come out and tell the nation whose errand he is running and for who he speaks; is it for himself, Islam, or government of Nigeria?

“The PFN, Kaduna State, strongly condemns the Central Bank governor’s Islamic banking agenda at a time like this in Nigeria when we are still battling to douse the tension created by the last ‘political’ crisis with all the evident religious manifestations.“This obviously is an insensitive and reckless act of the highest order coming from such a high ranking officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“No right thinking Nigerian would ordinarily venture into such a sensitive matter at any time in such a nation like Nigeria without an evil motive to create more tension in the nation or worse still to start another religious fighting such as had never been before in this nation.“Somebody, please, help tell Sanusi to let the sleeping dog lie, and not put the nation into another avoidable distraction and dangerous crisis. We call on President Goodluck Jonathan not to wait until trouble begins before acting,” Bishop Bakare said.

[/b]Nigeria is growing per GDP wise but WE ARE NOT developing that is why the average masses hasn't felt it. For every 8% annual growth in GDP per say $250billion results to $20billion. This is what Dangote and a few other manufaturers produce in a year i.e. when they expand more production of goods like rice, sugar and cement . You are the one confusing yourself.The report says growth, nothing more than that.Yes, increase in GDP is an evidence of growth but the report failed to tell us more about the contribution of various sectors of the economy to the growth in GDP.The growth could have been as a result of recent increase in pump price due to the crisis rocking oil producing nations.This i consider temporary, and does not support the 2011-15 projection.No doubt, GDP growth if effectively and efficiently utilised leads to economic development.But the question remains, will the growth be managed well?

I'm really shocked by some of your write-ups; I've heard similar accusations from other post but it seems it happens to be true. IMO, his actions are to be reviewed besides, who does his performance review? On that note, I like to add, if he allowed Unity Bank to recapitalize and other to not to, it clearly shows that there is a vested interest and bias in his decisions , besides what is the house committee on govt review and ethics doing about this? Or are they going to sweep this under the carpet? Why hasn't someone raised an alarm or at least challenged his decisions?

Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where public office holders behave recklessly with impunity.How in hell would sanusi be allowed to continue as the cbn governor?A man who bailed the banks out (methinks the money was used to treat yaradua) without regard to legislative requirements for such actions.Even though the sacked CEOs were as dangerous as sanusi, he sacked them in the most unscrupulous manner typical of a politician and religious extremist.A man who considers his opinion to be final should be looked at with sun glass.

Now tell me why we need the islamic bank?

Sanusi goes round various mosque in Nigeria telling them how hard he is working to bring in the islamic banks.Now, how many times has he made an attempt to enlighten people of other religion about the tenets and benefits of the islamic banks other than his usual bragging, impositions and nonchalance ?

I am yet to see sanusi give any public lecture in the SE part of the country on various projects and programmes of the cbn.Unlike his predecessor who toured round the country intimating people on the cbn programmes irrespective of their religious inclinations.

Sanusi, despite his masters degree in economics, appears more of an islamic leader than a technocrat.The astronomical promotion of sanusi from a mere manager to the MD of Nigerian premier bank is still doubtful, even when it was obvious that this man had spent very little time in the banking sector.Sanusi left his banking job to attend an undergraduate islamic programme in Sudan, a country known for her high level of islamic extremism.No wonder the boko haram decided to go for more training in Sudan too.

There is truly something behind sanusi's Islamic banking, if not, why would a cbn governor champion such course why on the other killing contemporary banks?

The above are just negative impacts, there are also positive ones like;

1.employment creation for health care workers, NGOs and govt agencies
2.increase revenue to drug exporting nations
3.increase income to medical workers

we can develop any of the above points to suite your requirements.There are also socio-political impacts of aids such as'

1. stigmatization
2. discrimination
3. lobbying for increased budgets for aids prevention
4. increase in orphans and destitute etc

Well, sharia state practices require them not to participate in beer making and direct consumption, but have you ever heard them reject revenues from beer companies Tell me one state that has ever returned a kobo to the federal goverment because the money came from alcohol trade?

You didn't get what i meant.Nigerians are so sensitive to issues that pertain to religion and their belief system.That is why i think that even though this system works smoothly in other countries Nigerian may prove to be an exception due to the fact that Nigerians hold their religious beliefs so tenaciously.The cbn should rather concentrate in enlightening other members of the public who may not understand what the non interest banks entail rather than going to the mosque to tell people who already know.

Lets watch and see where sanusi's islmic banking will take us.

It's just a banking product that allows for individuals and investors to conduct business transaction in a way that provides allowance for their personal and religious views, nothing more.

We do understand what the non interest banking means.But you see, in Nigeria things mean a lot more than they appear on the surface.The issue of religion has caused us  immense damages -boko haram, jos crisis etc.We cannot afford to bring religion and religious beliefs into a vital sector of our economy.

Some states are prone to exam malpractices cuz I knew those days when I was in high school,I had friends that went to write their exams in the east and edo state.They taught writing in isolated examination centre in some local villages will provide them with their desired results.This may be likened to the high registration of in Imo cuz it doesn't necessarily mean that all or most of the applicants really passed the exams !

Yes, having the highest enrollment doesn't necessarily mean they are more educated,but other indices and empirical findings also support the fact that imo is the most educated state in Nigeria.Mind you, we are not talking about the number of people who registered in Imo state, rather the number of Imo indigene who register for these exams irrespective of where they reside.

The trio of Miracle Onyedikachi, 21; Chiebuka Onuoha, 20; and Udochukwu Ogbonna, 22, were best of friends as they lived together in the same vicinity. They had come to know each other as they grew up in the neighbourhood and their friendship blossomed. As peers, they almost always went out together and did things in common.

That was how strong the bond of friendship that held them together remained until Saturday, May 21. On that fateful day, as Onyedikachi set out with Onuoha to see one of their friends in Umuogele, a suburb of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, little did he know he would never come back home alive.

Even if he had had a premonition of any danger lurking, he may not have probably thought it would be in the mould of meeting his end more so in the hand of his friend. As they moved along, chatting away in the ecstasy of the moment, they never knew that man’s common foe, danger was hanging around few meters away.
Daily Sun gathered that moments after the duo set out in their journey, Onuoha saw a girl he had known for some time.

He beckoned on her and they engaged in discussions. As they stood by the road side chatting, another young man said to be one of their friends and identified as Udochukwu Ogbonna, emerged from nowhere, clinching an empty bottle in his right hand.
That marked the genesis of the trouble which ultimately consumed Onyedikachi and resulted in the razing down of a building where the suspect and his mother lived.

As he approached towards the direction of Onuoha and the girl, according to our source, Ogbonna allegedly broke the bottle in his hand and without asking questions, began to stab the former, muttering words that he had warned him (Onuoha) severally to stay away from the girl whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

It was also gathered that immediately the deceased who stood at a close distance waiting for Onuoha to end his discussion with the girl so that they could proceed to where they were going to, saw what happened and how blood was gushing out of his friend’s body, rushed to intervene and that landed him too into trouble.

Our source further hinted that as soon as he rushed to ask Ogbonna why he took the action and to prevent him from stabbing Onuoha to death, he allegedly bounced on him and gave him more deadly stabs within the region of the neck and he fell down instantly.

Some youths who witnessed what happened, apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police at Ndiegoro Police station where the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Joshua Bakyu ordered for his detention and directed his men to carry out thorough investigation on the matter.

Ogbonna is believed to have been moved to Umuahia for further interrogation.
He was said to have told the police that it was better he was killed as he was no longer enjoying his life.
The matter did not end there; Onyedikachi’s death triggered off a chain reaction which rendered over eight families homeless and property worth over N100 million destroyed.

Immediately the news of the death of the young man spread to the neighbourhood, an angry mob believed to be his kinsmen living in Aba mobilized themselves for a revenge mission.
The mob headed to No. 10 Nworgu Domiri Street by Ohanku Road owned by one Prince Joshua and where Ogbonna and his mother were said to be living.

They pulled down the building which cost was put at over N100 million and set it ablaze.
The Police at Ndiegoro were, however, said to be on the trail of the arsonists.
Daily Sun was informed that this was not the first time people from a particular community in Ebonyi State resident in the Aba would take the laws into their hands by vandalizing, pulling down and setting buildings ablaze where persons they believed that caused the death of one of their own live in revenge.
Meanwhile, Onuoha who was said to have survived the attack is now recuperating in a private hospital in the city while the body of his late friend, Onyedikachi was deposited in a private mortuary.

But the Governor really has to be careful, running a successful charity foundation is different from running the treasury of a State. And any grown up person who understands the meaning of Fiscal Responsibility will certainly keep their fingers crossed when Rochas makes some of these pronouncements.

Fiscal Responsibility indeed.What has he done or said that the current financial status of the state cannot sustain?Provision of free education and affordable education is the utmost responsibility of the state, and the governor's pronouncement in that regard is a clear demonstration of commitment, empathy and determination to ensure that Imo citizens get the best.Since education is the main business of the state, making it free and affordable is commendable.

Asking for fee refund is also a wise decision.What happens to those who are yet to pay their fees?Will they still be required to pay when the state had already declared free education?

getting a hug from my mum and her saying everything is well, I knew everything was well indeed and my mind was at peace , on my way I still did ''last minute reading'' in the taxi.

Lucky you, during my time i went to the centre with molue and got stressed out even before the exam .That was 2002.The funny part was that the result was withheld at the end of the day.I was really depressed, after preparing for whole one year.I even wrote an article(which was never published) stating that jamb be scraped after the experience.The next year i decided not to prepare and got a little above average score and ended up not gaining admission into the university of my choice. Flashing back, I can still feel what an average prospective Nigerian university student passes through in order to be admitted in various higher institutions, ranging from the stress of buying the form to submission, preparation(lessons and all that), extortion from invigilators and the risk of travelling to the exam venue.

Paying 1k for seat and all that without adjusting for inflation is still good(i wonder y those criminal invigilators have not changed) .We also paid about 500-1k then just to be admitted into the exam halls, and for someone from a humble home it was a huge sum, having struggled to register for the exam. Trekking from Orile in Lagos to jamb office in Ikoyi to purchase jamb form was the most excruciating experience of my life.Now all those things are gone and i am happy now.

I wish all of you who wrote the last jamb well, this is just the beginning.The university has lot more surprises in stock for you than paying 1k or so for a seat.But your determination and resilience will see your through those huddles.Do not blame anyone for your success or otherwise at the university level, see yourself as the centrepiece of the entire learning process and what you give is what you get.I have friends today who still blame the university for not ''giving'' them 2.1 and 1st class.This is rather outlandish.An average university has vast amounts of resources that will go a long way in satisfying your intellectual curiosity, try to use them as much as you can.I wish i had used all

My greatest mistake during my time was to have a girl friend or maybe girl friends in my class, it really affected my concentration and performance.I always wish i had done better than what i did then.Hey, you cannot change the hand of the clock.Use your time wisely.

Just sharing old time memories

It seems a student hostel must come with some minimum level of furnishing eg. a bed with mattress, reading table and chair as well as a two seater chair for visitors. I also feel it is important to provide electricity throughout the night (from 7pm to 6am) in case they need to study/read at night but the challenge here is fueling the diesel gens. I don't think students can afford to pay monthly service charge and building it into the rent would make it too expensive for most students.

Internet isn't a luxury but a basic necessity for students to do their research with.

How many hostels contain all these facilities.But good thought anyways.

When i was in owerri , 2008 precisely,  hostel accommodation at IMSU and FUTO cost about 60k-90k(depending on location) with basic facilities . Students come with their own beds etc.But there has to be constant water, security etc. In your case i think internet will be a plus.
