Helopt6790:An acquaintance got in last year and is finishing this year. Please stop letting people scare you. UKVI scrutinizes everything not only one school in particular. If your papers and applications are all in order there’s nothing you should be worried about |
I am currently inviting a friend over to the UK and I will be sending a letter of invitation stating that I will cover his accommodation and feeding. He is well to do and has much ties and finances so that’s not an issue. My concern is that he’s advising I fill out the visa application form on his behalf (ie completing his application for him as me but from the UK while he does biometrics) and says this gives a better chance. Is this possible and true? Is he better off applying on his end by himself with my support documents? |
I don’t have any questions to ask but I got a lot from this thread last year while I was still seeking admission and I’m grateful for the insights people share here. I got into a Russel League university (they’re like the Ivy Leagues of UK) in Scotland and I have been here for about a year now. There were many pieces of advice about what to carry and what not to carry, how the environment is etc. I think it’s great to hear what people say based on their experience but note your own experience could be different from theirs. Always do what works best for you. African food in the area I stay is usually sold by Middle Eastern stores. I personally did not bring any food (except spices) as I knew I could get them from these stores: anything from indomie to egusi etc. but depending on where you are it could be expensive or you may have to travel a little distance. The area I’m has budget friendly African food items. The weather in my part of Scotland almost constantly rains even during summer. So I brought some warm clothes from Nigeria BUT kept in mind that I would be ready to invest in 1 or 2 quality thick coats and jackets once I landed. The ones specifically made for this Academically lol, my university is tough and strict on standards. It was so different from my Uni education in Nigeria that i struggled in the first few weeks but thanks to God I found a better grasp of things as time went on. Ask questions in class, professors like it when you also go to them during office hours to ask for advice or speak more on a topic. All my assessments were visible to me already from day 1. I once submitted 2 minutes late and had 5% deducted from my mark. Never again. Money? Apply for several and any scholarships and aids your university is offering. Look into Santander too because they always seem to have scholarships for students and small grants within partner universities. Find organizations or ngos that can offer you work experience for some voluntary time. It is very tedious combining a 1 year postgrad with work but it’s doable. From day 1 when you enter if you know you want to secure an internship for the next year start applying as soon as you get into the UK. Search for “Trackr (formerly Bristol Tracker” on LinkedIn and follow them for opportunities. https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-trackr/ People know things but they may not tell you until you ask them. So make allies. House rent and bills don’t come cheap. You may have to work a number of shifts to cover up. Have an open mind too and be ready to explore and keep in touch with government policies as they tend to change a lot Best wishes to everyone! |
I got my UK student visa. Applied on the 31st of July and 3rd august got a dhl notification that my passport was on its way back to me. My BRP email dropped a few days later. My application was priority. |
Thank you. The time it took is fine. It was issued on the 5th working day from submission, taking out the weekends and the public holiday. zizle87: |
Realmrsean:Yes that as well, I forgot to add that |
I’ve gotten my visa from France VFS. I applied through Lagos and I applied to Netherlands actually but via france, applied for business category and got 1 entry for the duration of my trip. Frequent traveler. Applied on 9th of June, visa got issued 19th June received via courier today 23 June. Things I applied with (also I was told to not submit original documents because they won’t be returned to me like my original CAC docs and land docs were returned to me and I submitted photocopies of those instead). - 3 months bank statement - Invitation letter from inviting organisation - Invitation / intro from my work as its a work trip - CAC reg of my own thing - My personal intro letter - accommodation note - flight itinerary reserved from Air France (used book on hold though it already expired) - form filled during application on france visa website. I don’t know if I’m missing anything else. I got quick interview date on frequent traveler + this is my 4th Schengen. |
Hello all, How many months bank statement is needed for application please. 3 months or 6 months? I’ve seen people supply both and the required documentation list doesn’t specify how many months statement is needed. I hope Axa Manxard is still an alright travel insurance to use? I’m applying to the Netherlands through France. |
dami24:Sure, well thanks be to God. Yes I’m a frequent traveler and it was my third Schengen visa, my last one was maybe in 2020. Documents if I remember correctly- they have a list of documents on their website which was what i followed. The only document I didn't have was a tax clearance certificate and I was asked for it. But I submitted without it. Docs (if I remember correctly) - bank statement + reference letter from bank - reference from work + personal letter of introduction that stated my itinerary in it - CAC - hotel reservations + flight itinerary (only hotel was paid for, flight was not yet paid for) - Health insurance - complete application form I don’t remember anything else for now |
dami24:For the italian visa: I applied on the 12th of Jan, it got sent to the embassy on 13th jan, received an email from TLS that it was ready for collection on the 23rd and 24th DHL delivered it to me. |
towontoprecious:Perhaps yes, this could be the problem |
towontoprecious:I hope it pans out well for you and the available dates were from 20th June upwards |
dami24:I don’t know about the forever aspect on Italy but I was in Milan last month and my visa application didn’t take long to be returned. A few days especially since it was returned via courier |
Exhobaby9:I hope you have gotten it. Mine was returned to me after a few days with my visa. I applied in Jan or so. |
Really? Maybe log back in and see if you can see a calendar if not perhaps use the "feedback' option towontoprecious: |

Yes I got an email several days ago to book an appointment towontoprecious: |
I’m seeing the same thing too. Please let me know if you have any updates. Eghosa1: |
It's pretty much the same site/process for first time visa - Fill DS 160 - Pay - schedule appointment (and choose the option for renewal without interview) https://ustraveldocs.com/ will assist you with all links you need jeslom: |
Yes I just paid 72k yesterday. It will go up in May. Ess: |
Thank you very much, I appreciate the info Ekeadatrust: |
Ah really? Thanks for explaining because I got confused that those were also drop-off locations Ekeadatrust: |
Has anyone tried dropping off their documents for IW at any of the other drop-off locations like Enugu, Port Harcourt etc. Or is it safer/better to come to Lagos and drop off? Thanks |

It’s cool thanks, I applied for my visa and thankfully got it in around 6-7 working days. I applied on the 12th of Jan, it got sent to the embassy on the 13th jan, received an email from TLS that it was ready for collection on the 23rd and today 24th DHL delivered it to me. I’m quite impressed with the speed of delivery from DHL. I thought I’d share too as the thread has been so silent. Thanks for all the information also shared earlier on. The staff were also kind and helpful in my experience at TLS. 9jaLaw: |
9jaLaw in your business visa did you submit a conference invitation letter that took the format of the one TLS contact has on their website: https://static.tlscontact.com/media/ng/lgv/it/modello_di_invito_per_affari_nuovo.pdf Or did you use the invitation letter the conference provided by themselves with their letter heads I assume. I want to apply for a business visa and want to know if the organization needs to provide this TLS’s format in addition to their own invitation letter. Thank you. 9jaLaw:

Airtonnie:Yes I was asked questions about what I do, why I was traveling, who would pay, why I chose to travel to Turkey, I had to also explain what my company does and explain my role and explain things about my field. I don't remember who I addressed my letter to, probably the embassy. |
I did mine in Lagos so I didn't book an appointment. Lagos is a walk-in center without appointment date, but the fees are higher. You can try this link to book an appointment; https://voyavisa.com/index.php/online-appointment-for-visa/ Airtonnie: |
First day I tried it didn't go through. The second day when I was almost giving up as my travel day was close, I called again and stayed on the line, I was surprised and very thankful someone picked and attended to me. Exchanger101: |
I can't say for sure, I have good travel history, I believe this is what helped too by God's grace. elijah101: |
When I received my passport, it had my visa inside it already. Exchanger101: |

For your first submission to the embassy, you are adviced to submit only reservations. Flight reservations and hotel reservations only because if you don't get the visa your money would have wasted if you paid directly for flight n accomodation. I submitted on the 16 or March and I got emailed on 21st March to submit confirmed flight tickets. That's when you go ahead to pay for flight tickets. |
