PUBLIC WARNING: BEWARE OF THE OBIDIENT QUOTE-AND-DISTRACT SCHEME.

This public notice is issued by the Nairaland Concerned Readers and Debate Protection Committee to warn forum members about a growing discussion-evading 419 tactic known as the Obidient Quote-and-Distract Scheme.

The method is simple.

A detailed post presents facts, figures and a clear argument. Unable to answer it, the affected responder ignores the subject and posts something irrelevant such as:

Data boy.”

“Ewu.”

“Who is paying you?”

If I slap you…”

The purpose is not to debate. It is to bury the original argument beneath insults and drag the conversation into a meaningless personal quarrel.

The perpetrators understand that Nairaland replies usually display only the most recent quoted comment, not the original article. They therefore hope that new readers will see the abuse, miss the main issue and forget that no argument was answered.

Members of the public are advised not to be deceived.

Whenever this tactic appears, calmly ask:

“Which specific point in the original post have you rebutted?”

If the answer is another insult, the diagnosis is confirmed.

This condition is officially known as Obidient Argument-Evasion Syndrome: a sudden loss of comprehension whenever facts become uncomfortable.

Please remain alert.

Do not feed the distraction.

Return them immediately to the original argument.

Me don't even want to read anything related to data boys, whether it's directed to me or other members, it's automatic blocking.
My brother, I perfectly understand the advice, but I think blocking them only rewards the behaviour.

Honestly, ignoring this online terrorist group is like paying ransom to bandits.
The immediate problem disappears, but the incentive remains. Once people discover that insults and thread-derailment get them the outcome they want, they'll simply repeat the tactic elsewhere.

My approach is different.

I expose the diversion, redirect readers to the original argument, and let everyone see the contrast between evidence and abuse.

The objective isn't to convince the serial abuser—they've usually made up their minds. It's to ensure that silent readers can distinguish between someone answering an argument and someone trying to bury it.

If every serious poster simply blocks thread derailers, the tactic wins by default.

Sometimes the best antidote to bad-faith debating is to shine a bright light on it, not quietly remove it from view.
Politics › Re: Fixing Elections In January Is To Disenfranchise Igbos- Prof. Odinkalu by CharlesCNG: 7:11am On Jul 17
RoxyBrownAutos:
New year holiday ends on 2nd January.Anyone with useful activities in town is expected to return before the election date.
Honestly, I am shocked that a professor could advance an argument this intellectually weak.

Is something mentally wrong with this obidients? This lunacy is getting out of hand!

But on reflection, this may not be stupidity. It looks more like deliberate pessimism—the obidient habit of interpreting every national decision through the darkest possible ethnic lens.

Odinkalu did not merely question the election date. That would have been legitimate. He transformed a scheduling inconvenience affecting many mobile Nigerians into another story of special Igbo victimhood.

That is the real problem.

Once a public intellectual begins with the conclusion that Nigeria is always hostile to the Igbo, every policy becomes evidence, every inconvenience becomes persecution, and every administrative mistake becomes conspiracy.

That is not critical thinking. It is narrative manufacturing.

He even admitted that Northerners living in the South could face the same difficulty. That admission destroys the ethnic-discrimination claim. Yet he still centred the argument on Igbo disenfranchisement because the persecution framing is more politically useful.

This is how extremist narratives are normalised: not always through open separatist slogans, but through endless suggestions that Nigeria is irredeemably designed against one ethnic group.

Odinkalu should explain the policy defect without poisoning it with ethnic suspicion.

A professor should clarify public debate, not manufacture grievance.

Criticise Nigeria where criticism is deserved—but stop presenting every national inconvenience as evidence that the country hates the Igbo.

Fixing Elections To January Is To Disenfranchise Igbos- Prof. Odinkalu

Source
Shameless Odinkalu’s January Alarm: When Travel Inconvenience Becomes “Igbo Disenfranchisement”
by CharlesCNG.
Professor Chidi Odinkalu’s argument is a textbook case of Igbo persecution Complex —the habit of converting every national administrative decision into evidence of a special plot against the Igbo.

January 16 was not selected because INEC discovered that Igbo people celebrate Christmas. The date followed the revised 2027 timetable after the Electoral Act 2026, replacing the earlier February 20 presidential election that attracted objections because it fell during Ramadan. The presidential and National Assembly elections are now scheduled for January 16, while governorship elections are fixed for February 6.

There are legitimate questions about whether INEC chose a date too early. PLAC has observed that the Constitution permits a presidential election window from December 30, 2026, to April 29, 2027, meaning INEC had considerable flexibility.

But that is an argument for better national scheduling, not ethnic persecution.

Odinkalu’s logic is especially weak because he admits that Northerners living in the South may face the same travel problem. Once the alleged harm affects multiple ethnic groups, calling it an attempt to disenfranchise the Igbo becomes intellectually dishonest.

More importantly, voters are expected to vote where they registered. Holiday travel is voluntary and foreseeable. Millions of Nigerians—Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Ijaw and others—travel during Christmas and New Year. Should the national election calendar be constructed around how long each ethnic group prefers to remain in its ancestral hometown?

That is not nation-building. It is ethnic exceptionalism disguised as inclusion.

Odinkalu could reasonably argue for moving the election to late January. Instead, he inflated a logistical concern into another typical obidient igbo persecution narrative. Shameless !

A professor should distinguish between inconvenience and disenfranchisement, between an imperfect timetable and a deliberate ethnic plot.

Not every national decision that inconveniences an Igbo traveller is evidence that Nigeria is targeting the Igbo.

Sometimes, a calendar is simply a calendar.
Professor odinkalu shame on you but am not surprised.

Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that Peter Obi is sabotaging Igbo presidency.

https://thesun.ng/peter-obi-working-against-igbo-presidency-kenneth-okonkwo/
Kenneth Okonkwo Has Started Sharing the igbo Presidency Like Family Inheritance.

I listened to Kenneth Okonkwo explaining how Peter Obi is now working against an Igbo presidency, and I couldn't help but laugh.

Politics can be wonderfully entertaining.

Okonkwo’s argument is that Obi allegedly promised to contest through the ADC but left for the NDC shortly before the process closed. He claims Obi’s departure weakened the South-East’s position within the ADC and that the Atiku–Amaechi ticket - the very ticket he recently complained about- now provides a more realistic route to either an Igbo vice-presidency or eventual presidency.

Peripathetic Keneth reminds me of a man arguing over how to divide the chicks from eggs that have not only failed to hatch, but have not even been laid.

The man who once sold Obi as Nigeria’s political salvation now says Platform Pilgrim Peter is sabotaging the very Igbo presidency his supporters claim he represents.

What changed? Certainly not the electorate.

The irony is delicious. The same political family that spent months preaching "New Nigeria" has now reduced the conversation to who should inherit a presidency from parties that have not first convinced Nigerians they can actually win one.

Before sharing Aso Rock offices, perhaps they should first share votes.

Before distributing future presidencies, perhaps they should first build the nationwide coalition required to secure one.

The truth is simple: serious politicians count delegates, structures and votes. Political dreamers count presidencies they have not won.

Kenneth Okonkwo and Pity -party Peter now appear like two passengers arguing over who gets the window seat in an aircraft that has not been built, has no runway and has not even received clearance to take off.

Here is the reality check on igbo Presidency.
Obi and Kenneth Okonkwo are simply chasing political mirages.

Peter Obi cannot realistically win the presidency in 2027 on the NDC platform, while even an ADC victory in 2027 would not automatically translate into an Igbo vice presidency in 2031.
If the vice presidency in 2031 is already expected to go to the South-South under that arrangement, where exactly does the South-East fit into their arithmetic?

The more plausible pathway, in my view, is an Igbo vice presidency in 2031 under APC—someone like Dave Umahi would have my support—followed by a credible shot at the presidency in 2038 under the same APC.
Between these two scenarios, the real question Kenneth Okonkwo should answer is simple: which is actually more politically viable?

My friend , you have now moved from “hungry data boys” to fighting artificial intelligence to ewuu.

You still have not challenged one figure.

You still have not answered one argument.

You are only advertising that you an obidient. please read the user manual

How To Spot An Obidient On Nairaland: A User Guide.

Not everyone who criticises Tinubu is an Obidient. Not everyone who disagrees with Pastor Adeboye is an Obidient. Not everyone who supports opposition politics is an Obidient.

But there is a pattern.

If it quacks like an Obidient, insults like an Obidient, dodges facts like an Obidient, and shouts “data boy” like an Obidient, forgive me for recognising the duck.

You can usually spot them by the familiar feathers.

First, they rarely answer the issue. If you raise facts, they attack your motive. If you ask for evidence, they say you are paid. If you question Peter Obi, they say you are working for APC. If you defend a point they dislike, they call you “data boy.”

Second, they confuse abuse with intelligence. Instead of argument, you get insults. Instead of data, you get slogans. Instead of reasoning, you get “fake certificate,” “snatch and grab,” “criminal,” and other recycled chants.

Third, they practice selective outrage. When a pastor, activist or elder appears to support Obi, he is a voice of conscience. But if the same type of public figure says something that does not serve their political anger, he becomes tribal, fake, compromised or useless.

Fourth, they dodge facts like rain. Present figures, they change topic. Present history, they shout propaganda. Present voting patterns, they reply with emotion.

So no, I do not call people Obidient simply because they disagree with me. I notice the uniform: abuse first, evidence last.

If it walks like selective outrage, quacks like political intolerance, and swims comfortably in insult, I do not need DNA test to know the species.

You can deny being Obidient, but if your argument came from the usual insult factory, do not blame me for identifying the manufacturer.

An insecure movement bullies.

In a real democracy, people are free to vote Obi, Tinubu, Atiku or anyone else without having their patriotism questioned.

Politics › Galadima’s Apples And Oranges: A Running Mate Is Not A Presidential Candidate. by CharlesCNG(op): 9:19pm On Jul 16
Buba Galadima’s history lesson is elegant, but it completely sidesteps the real political issue.

Yes, the North and the South-East have a history of political cooperation.

Yes, the NPC and NCNC formed an alliance in the First Republic. Tafawa Balewa became Prime Minister while Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe became President. In the Second Republic, Alex Ekwueme served as Vice President under Shehu Shagari.

Those are historical facts.

But they do not answer today's question.

Galadima is comparing apples and oranges.

There is a world of difference between a South-Easterner serving as running mate to a northern presidential candidate and a South-Easterner leading the presidential ticket.

Nobody disputes that northern politicians have, at different times, accepted South-Eastern vice-presidential candidates.

The real test is whether northern voters are prepared to vote massively for a South-Easterner as President.

Those are two completely different political propositions.

Ironically, this was the very argument Rabiu Kwankwaso made in 2022.

During the alliance talks with Peter Obi, Kwankwaso insisted that he—not Obi—should lead the ticket because, according to him, northern voters would find it difficult to support a South-Easterner for President.

That was not an APC argument.

That was Kwankwaso's own political assessment.

Today, with Kwankwaso reportedly serving as Obi's running mate, the same political reality has suddenly been repackaged into a romantic story about historic North–South-East friendship.

History has not changed.

Politics has.

When some northern commentators question the electoral viability of an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, they are not rejecting history.

They are recalling the same electoral reality that Kwankwaso himself acknowledged only a few years ago.

History can decorate a speech.

History can inspire a campaign.

But history does not automatically transfer votes.

A vice-presidential alliance is not proof that the North has accepted a South-Easterner as its preferred presidential candidate.

Until that question is answered at the ballot box, Galadima's historical comparisons remain interesting—but politically incomplete.

History may explain where Nigeria has been.

Only votes will determine where Nigeria is going.

In the US today which is Nigeria's model of democracy, if a former Biden supporter turns 360 and becomes a Trump supporter, will people keep quiet if they think there's something unusual, or there's a pattern they have observed?

What is it with Tinubu supporters and playing victim while actively trying to police everyone's freedom of expression?

Is this the familiar silencing tactics Tinubu supporters are known for, in addition to blackmail, backstabbing, betrayal, and tribal bigotry?
You have just illustrated my article perfectly.

The story was about one woman who publicly explained why she no longer supports Peter Obi.

Instead of engaging her reasons, your immediate response was to generalise about Tinubu supporters.

That was exactly my point.

You ask whether everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Absolutely.

Including the woman.

Including me.

What I criticised was not your right to hold an opinion, but your refusal to respect hers.

She says she has changed her mind.

You immediately imply she is lying or part of some familiar Tinubu pattern.

Why is it so difficult for an Obidient to accept that someone can genuinely leave the movement? is it a religious cult?

Kenneth Okonkwo did.

Atiku won your state Akwa Ibom in 2023. I don't think you should be in the best position to be commenting on this. Tinubu became president because a lot of Northerners paid back the support that he gave to Buhari in 2015 against his Southern brother, Jonathan. Of course you can call that strategy or playing the long game. He saw a perfect opportunity in Buhari and took it. Don't forget that he had supported Ribadu and even Atiku in the past without any success but he never said "Emi lokan" until he supported Buhari and won. Tinubu invested 2.1m votes in Buhari and reaped 5.6m votes in 2023 to become president. Delayed gratification is not a virtue known to many and that's perfectly fine. Politics is not taught in class and until betrayed, Northerners always repay their debts. If you are back supporting Tinubu today, it's because you think he will win the 2027 elections again.

Emesiere
Many people still do not understand that Tinubu's relationship with the North did not begin in 2015.

He spent years cultivating political trust across the region. In 2007, his party supported a northern presidential candidate. In 2011, it again backed a northerner. In 2015, he made the strategic decision to support Buhari.

Why?

Not because he was against the South, but because there was a widely shared political understanding that, after President Obasanjo's eight years, it was the North's turn.

Tinubu played the long game. He invested in relationships, built trust and honoured political agreements. When it became the South's turn in 2023, many northern political actors reciprocated that trust.

That is politics.

It is not merely about elections; it is about consistency, credibility and long-term coalition building.

The same logic explains why many northerners today believe the South should complete its constitutional turn before power rotates again.

That is why politics cannot be reduced to social-media excitement or one election cycle.

Coalitions are built over years—not kwankaso emergency 2027 south east arrangee for his own 2031 agenda.

When Obi-Kwankwaso alliance talks were going on then, Kwankwaso explained why he could not be Peter Obi’s running mate. His argument was simple: northern voters would find it difficult to support a South-Easterner at the top of the ticket while a northerner played second fiddle.

So what exactly has changed now?

The same political reality Kwankwaso cited in 2022 has suddenly become “historic North–South-East friendship” in 2027 because he is now the one trying to sell the ticket.

That is why Buba Galadima knows exactly why some people in the North are abusing them. He is not confused. He is only pretending not to understand the same argument Kwankwaso once made openly.

This is not about APC minions vibrating.

It is about NDC people trying to repaint political convenience as historical principle.

If Kwankwaso was right in 2022 that a North VP under a South-East presidential candidate was difficult to sell to northern voters, then he should explain why that same arrangement has suddenly become easy now.

Galadima’s Apples And Oranges: A Running Mate Is Not A Presidential Candidate by CharlesCNG.

Buba Galadima’s history lesson sounds elegant, but it dodges the real political question.

Yes, the North and South-East have a history of cooperation. Yes, the NPC and NCNC worked together in the First Republic, with Tafawa Balewa as Prime Minister and Nnamdi Azikiwe as President. That history is real.

But Galadima is comparing apples to oranges.

There is a clear difference between a South-Easterner serving as running mate to a northern presidential candidate and a South-Easterner leading the presidential ticket.

Atiku picking Ben Obi, Peter Obi, Okowa or even Amaechi as running mate does not prove that northern voters are ready to vote massively for a South-East presidential candidate. A vice-presidential slot is not the same as the top of the ticket.

That was exactly Kwankwaso’s own argument in 2022. When Obi wanted alliance talks, Kwankwaso refused to be his running mate because, by his own reasoning, northern voters would not easily accept a South-Easterner as presidential candidate. Now that Kwankwaso is reportedly Obi’s running mate, suddenly the same political obstacle has been repackaged as historic friendship.

So when some northerners question the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, they are not ignorant of history. They are remembering the same electoral reality Kwankwaso himself admitted in 2022.

History can decorate a speech.

But votes require present-day political acceptance.

Once Tinubu loses the 2027 election, she'll come back to the same social media space and say the worst about him.

It's very normal behavior for Tinubu supporters.
This response is revealing.

A woman says she voted for Peter Obi in 2023 but has changed her mind. Instead of asking why, the immediate reaction is to predict that she will eventually insult Tinubu.

That is the Obidient intolerance reflex.

Watch what usually follows: she will be called paid, hungry, compromised, tribalistic or unintelligent. Her independence will be denied because, in the Obidient worldview, nobody can honestly reconsider Peter Obi.

We saw the same treatment given to Kenneth Okonkwo when he withdrew his confidence in Obi. Rather than engage his criticisms, Labour Party figures labelled him attention-seeking and a mole.

And this woman has plenty of company.

Obi’s 2023 coalition has suffered party crises, leadership disputes, defections, broken alliances and declining novelty. His departure from the wider opposition coalition with Kwankwaso further divided the anti-incumbent bloc ahead of 2027.

Possible reasons are obvious: disappointment with his party-building capacity, endless platform changes, hostile supporters, lack of organisational depth and growing scrutiny of the Anambra mythology.

A political movement confident in itself persuades defectors.

A cult insults them.

People are allowed to change their minds. That is democracy—not betrayal.
Politics › Kwankwaso Cannot Donate To Peter Obi A North He Does Not Own. by CharlesCNG(op): 2:28pm On Jul 16
Rabiu Kwankwaso’s renewed sermon about a North–South-East alliance sounds historically attractive—but electorally exaggerated.

The former Kano governor speaks as though he carries “the North” in his pocket. He does not.

In 2022, while demanding that Peter Obi become his running mate, Kwankwaso claimed northern voters would find it difficult to support a candidate from the South-East. He presented himself and the NNPP as the South-East’s only route to political relevance.

Today, after accepting the vice-presidential slot under Obi, the language has changed. Suddenly, the South-East is the North’s historic friend and natural ally.

This is not necessarily new conviction. It looks more like **The Kwankwaso Convenience Pivot**—history being rearranged to suit his present position.

The 2023 results provide the reality check. Kwankwaso won Kano convincingly with 997,279 votes. But outside Kano, his promised northern political army largely disappeared. He failed to reach 25 per cent in any other northern state.

That makes him a formidable Kano champion—not the political landlord of Northern Nigeria.

An alliance with Kwankwaso is therefore not automatically an alliance with the North. The North contains governors, traditional political networks, religious and community leaders, competing parties and millions of independent voters whom Kwankwaso neither owns nor commands.

The historical references to Azikiwe, the NPC, Shagari, Ekwueme and Ojukwu are elegant. But history is not a transferable voter card.

My inference is straightforward: Kwankwaso is attempting to convert one-state electoral dominance into the appearance of regional authority because his present position requires him to sell Obi to northern voters.

He may deliver Kano.

He cannot promise the North.

A Kano political emir is not automatically Sultan of the northern ballot.

Wake up from your slumber mr man. Nigeria is nothing but a failed British colonial creation that has never worked.

What we should be talking about is dissolving this unworkable union let everyone return to their original factory setting before the British came, and everybody manages their land best they know how
That train left the station a long time ago.

Nigeria is over 65 years independent. We cannot keep pressing the reset button every time we face difficult challenges.

The real question is not whether Nigeria was a British creation. Almost every modern African state emerged from colonial boundaries.

The question is: how do we make Nigeria work better?

That is why I support practical reforms over emotional slogans.

Instead of dissolving Nigeria, we should deepen true federalism.

We are already seeing important steps: local government financial autonomy, the ongoing push for state police, fiscal reforms that give states more resources, constitutional conversations around devolution of powers, and greater subnational responsibility.

The next logical steps are clearer devolution of more items from the Exclusive Legislative List, stronger state policing, greater fiscal federalism, and more economic powers for the states.

That is how federations evolve.

Breaking up a country of over 200 million people is not a policy. It is a slogan.

Reforming the federation is the harder path—but it is also the more realistic one.

Nigeria does not need another constitutional divorce.

It needs a federation that finally works.

Typical obidient. rambling like a radio searching for signal inside a moving danfo.

Did you even read what you are responding to?

The article did not say Kwankwaso has no relevance. It said Kwankwaso has Kano relevance , not Northern ownership . That is the difference a typical Obidient will miss because once they see Tinubu, their comprehension removes battery.

Kwankwaso is important in Kano. Nobody denies that. In 2023, he scored 997,279 votes in Kano. That is serious political weight. But outside Kano, where was the so-called northern army? He did not reach 25% in any other northern state. So the point remains: he can influence Kano, but he cannot donate “the North” like personal property.

As for “Tinubu begged Kwankwaso,” welcome to politics. Serious politicians negotiate. They talk to allies, rivals and power blocs. That is not weakness. That is coalition-building. The same Obidients who celebrate alliance talks when Obi is involved suddenly call it begging when Tinubu does it.

That is hypocrisy with red cap.

And please, what has “Boko H VIP,” “drug baron,” “cult followers,” and El-Rufai jail fantasy got to do with Kwankwaso’s 2023 northern vote spread?

Nothing.

That is the usual Obidient escape route: when numbers arrive, insults start trekking.

The argument is simple: Kwankwaso may deliver Kano. He may influence parts of the North-West. But he cannot promise the North to Obi.

A Kano champion is not automatically the landlord of Northern Nigeria.

This is exactly the problem with many Obidients. The article you're attempting to respond to was not written for people who lack simple comprehension

My entire write-up was about one simple proposition: Kwankwaso's electoral strength is overwhelmingly concentrated in Kano and does not automatically translate into control of the entire North. I supported that with actual 2023 presidential election figures.

Instead of confronting those numbers, you went on the usual Obidient sightseeing tour—El-Rufai, Lagos, "drug baron," APC, Yoruba land... everything except the subject under discussion.

Did Tinubu talking to Kwankwaso suddenly make Kwankwaso's votes in Kaduna increase? Did Lagos alter the fact that almost one million of Kwankwaso's 1.49 million votes came from Kano? Did mentioning El-Rufai magically give Kwankwaso Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, the North-East or the North-Central?

That is the hallmark of Obidient debating: when the facts become uncomfortable, change the topic.

Nobody said Kano is not in the North. What I demonstrated—using INEC figures—is that Kano is not the entire North. If you disagree, then do what intellectually honest people do: show us the figures proving Kwankwaso commanded the rest of the North in 2023.

Leave the slogans and abuse aside. Refute the statistics.

Until then, all you've done is confirm my point that many Obidient arguments are driven more by emotion than electoral arithmetic.

It is that Obidients cannot stand contrary opinions.

If they had their way, they would happily censor every thread that questions Peter Obi and leave only those praising him.

but please say the truth as it is.

Did the drug peddler not know the economy was dwilling under his predecessor whom he helped put there

or was he justed interested in being called the president and came in with no clear plans to take hunger out of Nigerians

He came out made a promise to fix electricity or Nigerians should vote him out, 4 years later we are even worse

The clown had the effrontery to go install solar panels in his residence, while subtly telling Nigerians to disregard that promise.

How can you campaign for someone that has failed woefully. where is your conscience?
😂 My brother, once an Obidient runs out of arguments, the payroll spreadsheet suddenly appears.

"Paymaster."

"Allowance."

"Data boi."

Same old script.

Now, to the substance.

Yes, Tinubu knew the economy was in serious trouble. That is precisely why he removed fuel subsidy, unified the exchange rate, expanded CNG, increased public revenues, pursued tax reforms, improved state allocations, attracted new investments and pushed infrastructure projects instead of pretending everything was fine.

You call that "no plan."

I call it taking politically difficult decisions that previous governments avoided.

On electricity, nobody says the job is finished. But generation, transmission and decentralisation reforms are ongoing. A decades-old problem was never going to disappear overnight.

As for solar panels, that is another lazy Obidient talking point.

If solar power is good enough for homes, schools and businesses, why should government buildings be forbidden from using it? Isn't that exactly the energy transition many of you claim to support?

Finally, you asked about my conscience.

My conscience is exactly why I support reforms instead of comforting Nigerians with the same failed subsidy-and-forex illusion that nearly bankrupted the country.

I will vote for Tinubu because I prefer difficult reforms that can produce lasting results over easy slogans that produce temporary applause.

By the way, I am still waiting for Peter Obi's detailed alternative.

Not criticism. Not motivation. Not "I will do it better."

An actual plan.
Politics › Tinubu’s Quiet Oil-sector Turnaround: Nigeria 's Oil Output Hits Six-year High. by CharlesCNG(op): 10:38am On Jul 16
TINUBU’S QUIET OIL-SECTOR TURNAROUND: NIGERIA BEATS OPEC QUOTA AND RECORDS SIX-YEAR PRODUCTION HIGH.

Those who insist that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has achieved nothing have developed a convenient political habit: amplify every difficulty, suppress every improvement and pretend that measurable progress does not exist.

Nigeria’s latest oil-production figures have once again disrupted that narrative.

In June 2026, Nigeria produced an average of approximately 1.56 million barrels of crude oil per day—its highest crude output since April 2020. When condensates are included, total production rose to approximately 1.735 million barrels daily.

For the first time in a long period, Nigeria did not merely approach its OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day; it exceeded it, producing approximately 104 per cent of the target.

This was not an isolated monthly accident. It marked the fourth consecutive month of production growth.

The figures show a country gradually recovering from years of oil theft, pipeline vandalism, operational disruptions and declining investment. Production reportedly climbed from approximately 1.483 million barrels daily in February to 1.735 million barrels, including condensates, by June.

That progress did not fall from heaven.

It reflects improved pipeline stability, fewer major production outages, stronger security around critical infrastructure and a policy environment increasingly focused on restoring investment and output in Nigeria’s most important revenue-generating sector.

The significance goes beyond celebrating barrels.

More oil production means increased export earnings, stronger foreign-exchange inflows and potentially higher revenue for the federal, state and local governments. It also strengthens Nigeria’s ability to supply crude to domestic refineries, reduce dependence on imported petroleum products and rebuild investor confidence.

Of course, Nigeria is not yet where it should be. The administration’s longer-term production ambitions remain considerably higher, and every additional barrel must translate into improved public revenue and better living conditions.

But honest criticism must also acknowledge honest progress.

The same political commentators who blamed Tinubu when oil production remained weak cannot suddenly become silent when production reaches a six-year high. Accountability cannot mean attributing every setback to the President while describing every achievement as coincidence.

The evidence is becoming increasingly difficult to suppress: Nigeria’s oil sector is recovering.

The Tinubu administration should now consolidate this progress by intensifying pipeline protection, prosecuting oil thieves and their sponsors, attracting fresh upstream investment and ensuring that rising production produces visible benefits for ordinary Nigerians.

You may dislike Tinubu. You may oppose the APC. But facts do not become false simply because they are politically inconvenient.

Nigeria has beaten its OPEC quota and recorded its highest crude-oil production in more than six years.

That is not propaganda.

That is measurable progress.
