Politics / Man Knocks Out Friend’s Teeth While Arguing Over 2015 Election by Charlesdonald(m): 9:33pm On Jan 24, 2015
Two friends threw decorum to the wind at Old Ojo Road in Agboju area of Lagos State on Thursday when they fought over who becomes the winner of the 2015 presidential election.

A man identified as Chukwuemeka was said to have boasted that come rain or shine, Muhammadu Buhari would win the election, a statement opposed by his friend, Akpan who insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan remains the best material for the plum job.

Chukwuemeka who was said to have attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ajeromi/Ifelodun local government area the fateful day tried in vain to convince Akpan to support the APC.

What was said to be a friendly discussion degenerated into a fight as Akpan allegedly hit Chukwuemeka in the chest.

LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that Chukwuemeka’s retaliation nearly turned fatal as he gave his opponent a punch across the lips causing his teeth to fall off and a direct punch on the nose, causing him to fall.

An eyewitness, Etim disclosed that, “Akpan fainted and those in the area had to use cold water to revive him. We have been friends for many years and I don’t know why the two friends who knew each other about a decade before I knew them would fight over election that they will not gain much from. As for me, I am not a fanatical supporter of any candidate so I will not fight because of any candidate.’

The children of many Nigerian politicians are not in the country and will not even participate in the election. So why will I fight because of any politician? Are they not the same people? Didn’t members of PDP defect to APC and members of APC defect to PDP?

People should just take it easy like sports men during this election,” he advised.

Health / Man Nd Woman Are Unequal In Terms Of Alcohol Consumption by Charlesdonald(m): 9:08pm On Jan 24, 2015
When it comes to alcohol, men and women are
inherently unequal and no legislation can impose
sexual equality on them. It's absolutely essential for
the health and safety of women to understand this
inequality and act accordingly.
Contrary to common myth, not even men and
women of the same height and weight experience
the same effects from consuming identical amounts
of alcohol.
Women are affected by alcohol more rapidly
because they tend to have a higher proportion of
body fat than men. As fat cannot absorb alcohol, it is
concentrated at higher levels in the blood. Women
also have less of a gastric or stomach enzyme
(dehydrogenase) that metabolizes or breaks down
alcohol before it enters the bloodstream. Because of
this, women absorb up to nearly 30% more alcohol
into their bloodstream than men of the same height
and weight who drink the same amount of alcohol.
Women are also usually shorter and lighter than
men, further concentrating alcohol in their blood.
Therefore, when women of average size consume
one drink, it will have almost the same effect as two
drinks do for the average-size man. If women eat
little or skip food entirely, that compounds the
effects of drinking alcohol.
Hormone changes during the menstrual cycle can
also affect alcohol metabolism adversely, increasing
the impact of alcohol.
The bottom line is that a woman who hopes to "hold
her own" in drinking against a man is putting herself
at great risk.
Although men and women are unequal when it
comes to the effects of alcohol, that's not true of
alcohol beverages themselves. Standard drinks of
beer, wine or distilled spirits all contain equivalent
amounts of alcohol... they're all the same to a
breathalyzer.
There are a number of things both men and women
can do to avoid problems with alcohol: For example:
Know your limit. If you're not sure, experiment at
home with your spouse or some other consume
one drink per hour without any ill effects. Also,
experiment with the Drink Wheel, which is very
informative.
Eat food while you drink. Food, especially high
protein food such as meat, cheese and peanuts,
will help slow the absorption of alcohol into your
body.
Sip your drinks. If you gulp, you also lose the
pleasure of their flavors and aromas.
Don't participate in "chugging" contests or other
drinking games.
Accept a drink only when you really want one. If
someone tries to force a drink on you, ask for a
non-alcohol beverage instead. If that doesn't work,
"lose" your drink by setting
it down someplace and leaving it.
Skip a drink now and then or alternate alcohol and
non-alcohol drinks. Having non- alcohol drinks will
help keep your blood alcohol concentration (BAC)
down, as does spacing your alcohol drinks.
Keep active; don't just sit around and drink. If you
stay active you tend to drink less and be to be
more aware of any effects alcohol may be having
on you.
Beware of unfamiliar drinks. Some drinks such, as
zombies and other fruit drinks, can
be deceiving as the alcohol content is not easily
detectable. Therefore, it is difficult to space them
properly.
Use alcohol carefully in connection with
pharmaceuticals. Ask your physician or
pharmacist about any precautions or prohibitions
and follow any advice received.
The good news is that, contrary to common myth,
alcohol is not fattening and research has
demonstrated that for many women, drinking leads
to slight weight loss.
It pays to know the facts, good or bad.

Ihedioha2015:
I’ll create 5,000 jobs for Imo youths – Ihedioha 0
BY OUR REPORTER ON JANUARY 23, 2015 POLITICS
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has promised to create about 5, 000 jobs for youths when he takes over as governor by May 29, 2015.

The deputy speaker also vowed to restore the 10,000 jobs provided by former governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim.

Campaigning in Okigwe and Onuimo council areas, Ihedioha explained that he would create the jobs by ensuring that 15 youths from each political ward in the state would be given jobs with which they could take care of their families and not jobs, whose pay cannot take them home.

Apart from this, the PDP gubernatorial flag bearer said through the power substations he attracted to all parts of the state as the deputy speaker, his administration would also create more jobs for the greater number of Imo people.

He regretted that the victims of Ohakim’s job displacement had continued to wallow in avoidable economic pains since they were thrown into the labour market.

“I will create enough jobs for our people mainly by reactivating our technical colleges and I have already started this in my capacity as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and my government will be one that you all will be proud of,” he stressed.

Ihedioha promised that he would restore the people’s value through the provision of qualitative education and which would be matched with the installation of a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The Deputy Speaker accused the state government of shoddy execution of projects without adherence to due process, lamenting that a whopping N43 billion loan secured by the state government from the bank was wasted on frivolities.

Governor Rochas Okorocha built poor quality roads with shovels and wheelbarrows and these roads have not only become dilapidated few months after they were built but have become death traps.

Ihedioha, who also lashed at the governor for indiscriminate appropriation of lands in the state pledged to make education to have value once again by training teachers in English, Mathematics and arts to accelerate the interest of students in science subjects.

He urged all the party members to retire to their various wards, villages, kindred and communities, educate the rural dwellers why Okorocha should be rejected at the next governorship election.

Earlier, elder statesman and leader of the PDP in the state, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, said he joined in the campaign to remove Governor Rochas Okorocha from office because of the several lies he had told the people of the state.

He explained that the PDP leaders and members chose Ihedioha to be the next governor of the state “because we are fed up with the lies being told Imo people by Governor Rochas Okorocha on daily basis.”

Politics / Bucky Hassan Addresses Buhari Certificate Questions by Charlesdonald(m): 2:32pm On Jan 23, 2015
1) Why are the dates on the certificate stamped
2015, and not 1961?
Answer: “The stamp and date served as
authentication that the document was truly retrieved
from the records of that Secondary School and it
emanated from there. And, it must bear the date it
was forwarded! And, Cambridge University also sent
a computer print-out of the same certificate! So, the
certificate itself bears 1961, while the stamp of the
retrieving and forwarding establishment bears the
date the retrieved document was forwarded (i.e.
today’s date). I am a professional administrator.” –
Olasunkanmi Sukky Adeleke.
2) There was no Primary 6 in Nigeria in the
1960’s. Why did Buhari leave secondary school at
18-19?
Answer: Please see this write-up on Nigeria’s
educational history from pre- colonisation to date.
In the 1950s and at least the early 1960s, Nigerian
children spent 6 years in primary school, and 7
years in secondary school.
“In the 1950s, Nigeria adopted the British system
called Form Six that divided grades into six
elementary years, three junior secondary years,
two senior secondary years, and a two-year
university preparation program. Those who
scored high on exit examinations at the end of
Form Six usually were qualified to enter
universities.”
3) The Army said Buhari had a pass in English
but his certificate shows a credit in English.
Answer: The Army actually said he had a pass in
English literature and a credit in the English
language. Many [people] heard “pass in English
literature” and immediately jumped to the
conclusion the Army meant English grammar. This
link provides copies of the Army’s letter and other
documentation in Buhari’s file.
4) If the certificate is false, why is the Buhari
campaign confident enough to provide it to the
press?
Answer: The Buhari campaign freely releasing this
document to the media is the strongest piece of
evidence that the documents are real.
With all the information provided on the
documentation, anyone can directly approach the
Cambridge exams board, WAEC, the Katsina
Education Ministry and Government College Katsina,
to verify the information. With the examination
number given on the certificate, it will be easy for
those organisations to respond quickly. Please
remember that this certificate was released directly
by Katsina College who made a copy available to
Premium Times.
5) Why is his name spelled Muhammadu Buhari,
but is Mohamed Buhari on the certificate?
Answer: Nigerian names commonly have many
different variations of spellings, and it is not
uncommon to find Nigerians with different spelling
variations of their names on different documents –
certificates, passports, birth certificates etc. Some
people will always insist on spelling one’s name the
way they prefer even after seeing the correct
spelling written out!
6) As Katsina State was not created until 1987,
why is this certificate on the letterhead of the
Katsina State Ministry of Education?
Answer: Buhari’s secondary school used to be
known as Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, but
is now called Government College Katsina. It is
located in what used to be Katsina Province
but became Katsina State in 1987. As Katsina College
is issuing a certified copy of Buhari’s original
documentation, they have transcribed it upon the
official certificates used by the State today. It is why
the exam is dated 1961 but it is stamped and dated
by the principal on 21/1/2015 – the date the school
reissued a copy of the certificate.
“1947: Ibadan province split from Oyo; Katsina
province formed from parts of Sokoto and Zaria;
Rivers province split from Owerri.”
7) Why does the certificate show a contemporary
photograph of Buhari today?
Answer: Buhari sat for the exams of the Cambridge
University West African School Certificate – which is
the exam body that set the exams at the time.
Photographs were not a requirement to be put on
the certificate. However, WAEC now issues
certificates with the photograph of the candidate.
Thus to satisfy the protocol of today, his current
photograph has to be on the certificate.
cool Buhari has a credit in Hausa language. Surely
Hausa language was not taught in schools in
1961?
Answer: The educational system in Northern and
Southern Nigeria in the Colonial era was very
different. Hausa was the official language of the
Colonial administration in Northern Nigeria. Hausa
was taught in colonial schools all through the
colonial era.
“Hausa in the Twentieth Century: an overview” by
John Edward Philips is particularly instructive. Page
25 talks about Hausa being the official language of
the Colonial government in Northern Nigeria.
9) Can any of Buhari’s classmates verify he sat
the exams in 1961?
Answer: Coomassie (ex-Inspector General of Police)
and Justice Abdullahi (former President Court of
Appeal of 10 years) have both confirmed they were
Buhari’s classmates and all sat the WAEC
examinations at the same time.
