PoliticsAmaechi Declares Curfew In Rivers State by CharlesPhc(op): 6:39pm On Mar 30, 2015
Breaking News... !!! Gov. Amaechi declares Curfew in Rivers State from 7pm to 6am effective from today.

Rythme 93.7 just announced a special government announcement signed by the RS SSG. Dusk to dawn curfew in Rivers State announced by 6:30pm today and the curfew is to commenced by 7pm same day

The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared dusk-to-dawn curfew on Port Harcourt, the state capital, hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the result of the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

In a terse statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, George Feyi, the governor said the curfew will hold from 7p.m. to 6a.m.
“The curfew will continue till further notice,” a part of the statement said.

The declaration of the curfew comes amidst heightened tension occasioned by the conduct of last Saturday’s election in the state.

Mr. Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress had boycotted the polls over the failure of INEC to supply result sheets to many polling units especially in the party strongholds.

But the elections continued despite the boycott and the result of both the presidential and National Assembly polls were announced at about 2pm amidst protests and call for cancellation by the APC.

If INEC dares to cancel the election in Rivers State then they should be ready to cancel the election all over the country cos the same irregularities the APC in Rivers State are complaining of were also recorded in other parts of the country and yet results are being announced in those states. I'm wondering if Gov. Fashola of Lagos State sighted the Result sheets in his Polling Unit before accreditation.

PoliticsBaby With Two Horns Born In Osun - Graphic Image - Viewer's Discretion...!!! by CharlesPhc(op): 8:32pm On Mar 28, 2015
The atmosphere in the maternity centre was serene. There was nothing suggesting the occurrence which took the reporter there. Nurses on duty were courteous but grew cautious and suspicious when it was obvious the reporter was not a patient. Why is he here?

The birth of a new born baby would normally elicit joy and excitement in people. It is more so when the mother has been longing for it without results for years. But, the reverse was the case in a maternity centre (name withheld) situated at Ifosan area of Ilesa, in Osun State where a woman recently gave birth to a baby with two horns on its head.

A tip had given Saturday Tribune photos of the strange baby, the arrival of which caused fear and trepidation among the nurses and the proprietress of the maternity centre. The tip also described the hospital and the geography of its area of operation.

The description was vivid and accurate enough for Saturday Tribune to locate the health centre without much difficulty. Here is the maternity centre where the baby with two horns was born. Then, there was a thick wall of silence. Nurses on duty would neither deny nor confirm the development. The reporter was tossed up and down and finally landed before the proprietress of the centre. She would not talk unless her identity and that of her hospital were protected. The reporter gave his words.

“It is true the baby was born,” she said, but added that the horror of the event compelled her to instruct her staff to keep sealed lips over the development, with a view to warding off public attention to the centre over the scary baby.

Speaking with Saturday Tribune during the visit on Thursday, the proprietress, (she is called matron by her staff) said the woman who gave birth to this deformed baby was “about 25 years old and she has been without a child for three years.”

She explained that “this woman lives in one of the farm settlements on the outskirt of Ilesa. She registered for antenatal service here. So, when she wanted to put to bed, her relatives rushed her here to deliver the baby.

“But we were shocked to the marrow when she eventually delivered the baby with two horns on the head after going into labour for some hours. By the time she was delivered of the baby, it was already dead and we had to separate it from the placenta.

“I have never seen such a terrible creature in my life. So, we helped to pack the dead baby and the placenta and handed them over to them before they left our premises. It was indeed a fearful development and we were saddened about it.

“This is not something we can celebrate. So, I ordered by nurses and other attendants to keep their mouth shut over the incident. But, I am very surprised how you people got to know about it and came here to inquire about it. I do not want anyone to make something unnecessary out of this or create problems for us here,” she stated.

She would not disclose the whereabouts of the woman who delivered the baby. “I cannot give you any details about her. Like I told you, she lives in one of the farm settlements on the outskirts of Ilesa and I don’t really know the area and I want you to leave me out of this matter,” she added.

The woman who froze when she was shown the photographs of the baby, however, confirmed its genuineness but asked how Saturday Tribune got them. A staff member of the clinic also showed Saturday Tribune her own photos of the baby taken with her phone.

All efforts to locate the exact location of the baby’s mother and her identity were not successful.

PoliticsBreaking News: Court Aborts Last Minute Move To Stop ‎election - Vanguard by CharlesPhc(op): 3:43pm On Mar 27, 2015
ABUJA- The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has declined to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from using the Smart Card Reader Machines for the presidential election holding tomorrow.

In a ruling this afternoon, Justice Ademola Adeniyi refused to issue an interim order of injunction stopping INEC from employing the technology for the presidential poll.

The court however summoned both the electoral body and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, to appear before the court on April 24 to address it on the legality or otherwise of the use of the card readers for a general election.

Meanwhile, even though the court rejected the application which was filed by a Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun state,‎ Mr. Walihu Taiwo, it however stressed that if ‎it eventually ascertains that the use of the card readers were illegal and unconstitutional, it will not ‎hesitate to annul the outcome of the general election.

There is going to be a constitutional problem. Remember when Celestine Omehia was disqualified and replaced with Ameachi by the supreme court. The court asked the deputy governor Engr Tele Ikuru to continue even tho Omehia candidacy gave life to Tele Ikuru. The VP/Deputy Governor are constitutionally elected so if the governor or president disqualified they can still continue.

PoliticsOkorocha Files Suit Against, Araraume, Ihedioha, INEC, PDP by CharlesPhc(op): 4:18pm On Mar 18, 2015
Governor of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha, and All Progressives Congress, APC, have jointly filed a suit at the Federal High Court, asking it to order the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to stop Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Chief Emeka Ihedioha from further campaigning for the governorship election in the state until the court determined who the real candidate of the party was.

Also joined in the current suit against Araraume and Ihedioha are the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and INEC.

Chief Okorocha and his party, the APC, are asking the court to restrain Senator Araraume and Chief Ihedioha from continuing with their campaign for the April 11, 2015, governorship election in the state on the platform of the PDP, until the court ruled on their matter to determine who among them was actually the candidate of their party, PDP.

In the suit No. FHC/OW/CS/68/2015, the plaintiffs are contending that allowing the two people to campaign for the governorship election would place the APC and its candidate at disadvantage, since what would be on the ballot papers are the logos or symbols of the political parties and not the candidates' names or photographs.

PoliticsPdp Snatches Kwankwaso's Aides, Other Apc Members by CharlesPhc(op): 8:41pm On Mar 15, 2015
Bashir Husain, a serving member of the House of Representatives from Kano state, and Hajia Maryma Kofar Mata, the special assistant to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on the Empowerment Programme, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

They were among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state who dumped the party for the PDP, The Guardian reports.

Husain is representing Gwale Federal Constituency, while Kofar Mata was the immediate past state women’s leader of the APC.

According to a statement by the media office of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, made available to journalists yesterday, the APC members decamped following Sambo’s visit to the state.

During his visit to Kano, Sambo had met with several stakeholders, who he urged to reach out to the people and inform them of the achievements of the President Jonathan-led administration and the PDP. This resulted in the defection of the APC members.

Receiving those who defected, the vice president gave them a warm welcome, while stressing that there was enough space in the PDP for anyone interested in joining the party.

“PDP is the party of Nigeria with the most people oriented programmes that has been transforming the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians in the right direction. PDP is Nigeria, and Nigeria is PDP. If you go to every corner and the remotest part of Nigeria, PDP has a system in place,” he said.

Sambo told the defectors to feel at home and put in their best for the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections, so that the party and the administration would continue to move the country forward.

According to the defectors, they dumped the APC because the PDP and the administration of President Jonathan and Vice President Sambo, have been delivering more and better dividends of democracy to Nigerians through their Transformation Agenda.

They therefore pledged to put in their best to move the party and the country to greater heights.

As the general elections are fast approaching, politicians have been moving from one party to the other. A few days ago there were reports that a prominent member of the PDP in Lagos state and a businessman, Chief Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi, is set to dump the party for the APC.
