That means it would take a car in good working condition just approximately 10 hours from Lagos to Abuja by the route on the Map below.

Having said that, what time would it take an average person to walk the same distance? How many hours would he have to walk each day? And in how many days would he complete his journey?

Let's assume Buhari was officially declared winner of the election on the 30th of March 2015 and our trekking guy started his journey on the 2nd of April 2015....!!! If by 20th of April 2015 Hamisu Abubakar arrived the FCT on foot, it is also confortable to conclude that it took him 18days to walk from Lagos to Abuja on foot. 24 Hours in a day by 18days would be 432 Hours.... How many hours did he walk each day to complete his task in 18 days considering the fact that from Lagos to Abuja is approximately 736.6km? Still loading.........

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has inaugurated a nine-man commission of inquiry to investigate the politically motivated killings in the state.

To head the commission of inquiry is the Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, while Sir Samuel Egbe has been appointed as the Secretary of the body.

Other members of the panel are Prof Nlerum Okogbule, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, Dr. Richard Ofuru, Mrs. Asivosuo Oriye, Dr. Joy Ejiofor, Mrs. Ayo Obe, and Rev. Father Michael Akiri as members.

The state governor had, during a stakeholders’ meeting, vowed to inaugurate such commission to ensure that those involved in the politically-motivated killings in the state would not go unpunished.

Speaking on Thursday during the inauguration at Government House in Port Harcourt, Amaechi congratulated the members and added that the fact-finding exercise would last for 30 days.

The governor pointed out that the reason for setting up the commission was to investigate why the victims were killed, who killed them, under what circumstances, adding that the commission was expected to make recommendations that would help government forestall future occurrences.

He said, “When I visited Obirikom in the Ogba/Egbeme/Ndoni Local Government Area, in the house hold of one late Chief Christopher Adube, nine persons were killed by assassins.

“Those killed were his three children, his younger brother, two gatemen, and two other persons while two of the late Chief Adube’s children are still receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

“There was a day I was arguing with the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State now posted to Enugu and I said, ‘commissioner, I am told 11 persons have been killed’, he said, ‘no, only seven persons’.

“Again, in the same Omoku, whether it is seven or 11 persons, these are human lives. At Okrika, when APC went on campaign, where the governorship candidate of APC was seated, he would have been hit by a bullet, but, God saved him; he had left that place earlier. That was the first day APC went for campaign in Okirika, and the police were present.

“I was driving to my village on March 28 for the presidential election, I saw a corpse at the median of the road, I called the Commissioner of Police, ‘Mr. Karma, I have seen a corpse here, please, look for a way to take away the corpse and find out who did this’, but, he did not.

“Whether the corpse is still there or not, I have no idea. When I got to the village called Omuanwa on that election day, young boys were shooting sporadically at innocent people and when they saw us, they ran into the bush. Then I came down and met somebody they have shot that was severely injured. We put him in a vehicle and rushed him to the hospital.”

The governor, however, maintained that those behind the killings were allowed to carry out the mayhem because of the existence of impunity in the state, just as he called on the commission to recommend appropriate punishment for the offenders.

He added, “The reasons why the killings happen was because of impunity in the state. Total impunity. I believe as a governor, if you don’t punish those who break the law, then human beings will no longer be protected.

“People were not allowed to carry out their civic obligation and responsibilities just because they (politicians) were desperate to take over power. There will be threats, but your duty as a commission is to overcome these threats.

“First, you must be under the custody of the state and we will inform the Commissioner of Police to provide adequate security for them (members of the commission) to discharge their duties uninterrupted.”

The Southern Nigeria Election Observers and the Niger Delta Coalition for Free and Fair Elections have faulted the call for the cancellation of Akwa Ibom and Rivers States’ governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections by the European Observer Mission and other foreign election observers.
They said the call for the cancellation of the elections by these foreign observers must be ignored, adding that the call itself was an indication that the observers were overstepping their rules of engagement as observer missions.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinators for the Southern Nigeria Election Observers and the Niger Delta Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, Mr. Edet Okon and Mr. Preye Tamuno, respectively.
They accused the European Observer Missions and other foreign observer missions of not knowing the rules of elections in the country, adding that there was no way an election could be cancelled when such election had been openly declared.
They said only election petitions tribunal has the power to cancel the outcome of such elections.
The statement said if the election observers have discovered any fault, such faults or irregularities could be isolated and that they might not be enough to affect the outcome of the elections, stating further, “we have had course to observe elections outside Nigeria and we know our bounds.
“To therefore call for the cancellations of governorship elections that have been declared by the constitutionally recognised bodies is nothing but to cause unnecessary tension in the country.
“They should know that if they discover anything that is contrary to the elections, the best thing to do in line with the guidelines is for them to report to Election Management Body their observations and not cause tension in the country. Nigeria is a sovereign body and there is a rule of engagement governing all elections.”
The groups referred the European and other foreign observer missions to the statement of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on March 19, 2015, where the INEC Chairman read out the rules governing election observation in Nigeria.
Jega was quoted to have said, “I would like to draw your attention to one cardinal distinction that INEC makes through its guidelines for election observation. That is the distinction between election observation and election monitoring.
“According to the INEC Guidelines for Election Observation, there is a fundamental difference between the two. An election monitor is an integral part of the election management structure and has a role in the administration of the election.
“In Nigeria, only the Independent National Election Commission and its duly authorised personnel are empowered to monitor elections.
“An Observer on the other hand does not have any role in the administration of the election nor any control or oversight functions.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Monday released the official results for the Kogi State House of Assembly election held on April 11.

In the election, which was marred by poor voter turnout and violence in some parts of the state, the Peoples Democratic Party won 12 of the 25 seats in the Assembly while the All Progressives Congress picked seven seats.

Five State Constituencies were said to be inconclusive while elections did not hold in one state constituency.

The results obtained by our correspondent show the PDP won in Adavi, Bassa, Ibaji, Idah, Ijumu, Kabba/Bunu, Ogori Magongo, Okene 2, Omala, Yagba East and Yagba West State Constituencies.

The Ankpa 1 and 2, Kogi/KotonKarfe, Lokoja 1, Mopa Muro, Okene 1, and Olamaboro State Constituencies.

Ajaokuta, Dekina 1, Igalamela-Odolu, Lokoja 2, and Ofu State Constituencies were said to be inconclusive while elections were said not to have held in Dekina 2, where the State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, voted on Saturday.

The reasons and date for the run-off elections were yet to be given but when our correspondent contacted the Public Relations Officer of the INEC, Mathew Ameh, he said the decision would be conveyed to journalists at a later date.

Meanwhile, the APC has rejected the results of the election, alleging mass irregularities.

A leader of the party and an agent at the collation centre, Suleiman Lawal, told our correspondent on the telephone that the party would seek redress.

“I have made a complaint about the results at the Lokoja office of INEC but the response they gave us was not good enough,” he said.
