During VD when the doc/nurse tear down there will they first inject anaesthesia or they just tear?
Local anaesthesia is only given when it is time to suture the tear. The tear(whether spontaneous or given by the doctor/midwife) usually occurs at the peak/climax of pushing/labor pain,so it is not usually felt

Q1 Can I opt for Elective CS for personal reasons ....the first delivery was ES

Q2 what causes protein in urine and how can I make it disappear grin, kindly note it's just +1 but I am working towards a very healthy pregnancy

Q3 is it normal to have a BP of 90/60 during pregnancy shocked? I wonder why it's that low undecided

Abeg Sabi mamas don't jump and pass grin
1)Yes,you can opt for an elective CS if that is your wish though if all is favourable for a vaginal delivery, the doctors and nurses may try to make you see it as the better option, nobody will insist if you don't want to(I believe you have your reasons)
2)What causes protein in urine?A lot of things:Certain drugs, infections, disease conditions eg Hypertension,pre-eclampsia/eclampsia,diabetes, amyloidosis etc.
Generally,a healthy kidney does not allow a significant amount of protein to leak through while filtering urine.Any quantity detected on routine urine test(+,2+,3+)shows that there is a degree of damage to the kidneys,or in some cases, that there is overproduction of proteins by the body.
In your case, you are pregnant, one will think of pre-eclampsia,but then,if your BP is within normal range, there is no need to panic yet.Routine/regular checkups/BP checks, urine tests etc is what you need now.Your doctor might also want to do a kidney function test,or he might want to keep monitoring you.Just take a lot of fluids(water),minimise your salt intake, take only your antenatal drugs/drugs prescribed by your doctor(no agbo or herbal concoctions, they damage the kidneys),and listen to your doctor! You will be fine
3)In pregnancy, your BP generally drops due to the effect of certain hormones on your blood vessels. These hormones cause the blood vessels to dilate, thus lowering the pressure at which your blood flows. So yes,a BP of 90/60mmHg can be normal in pregnancy.
After delivery,it will get back to the normal non-pregnant range

Our doctor has spoken, me I became scared yesterday after reading about @happychildlove's baby's cold.i was like see me that was jejely drinking room temp water but all of a sudden I couldn't stomach it anymore except cold water. I started feeling for my lo.....What a sigh of relief, so we are safe? Thank God.
Yes dear, very safe.Infact, the water isn't even cold by the time it gets to your stomach. And remember, baby is in the uterus, very separate from the stomach and intestines. It is just one of those pregnancy myths.

Taking cold water in pregnancy does not affect the baby in any way at all!

@Ejika48,did you have any symptoms before this admission you talked about?Severe weakness?excessive thirst? excessive/frequent urination?
Though some of these can be normal pregnancy symptoms, they are also symptoms of diabetes. What is your gestational age now?

Eekaro o. Congrats to the mamas that HV seen their LO. Pls doctors in the house help o.....I was admitted at d hospital due to my ms cause DH said I was about to faint so he rushed me there they conducted three different tests but the one bothering me is that of sugar. I was told my sugar level is so high! N ever since I've been scared. Since I got back home my appetite has increased now I can eat whatever I feel like, smell, sleep, n even talk well! I'm so grateful to God. Now the question is "are we safe? What can I do to reduce it? I'm I now a diabetes patient? Pls someone should explain better. This is my third baby n I've never experienced such in the previous
There is something called gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM).....essentially "pregnancy-induced diabetes" in layman terms.Occurs in a pregnant woman who was not previously diabetic.Usually resolves after delivery(though not in all cases).
Now,what exactly did your doctor do for you?did he just do a single sugar test(random?,fasting?) Or did you also do the glucose tolerance test or 2hr post-prandial test?
Also, what did he tell you after the test?He should have given you a diagnosis, counselled you on your díet,lifestyle modifications, treatment options,prognosis/outlook/what to expect etc.Infact,in a good hospital, you will need a dietitian to guide you through till you deliver.
These are not things one can do for you online, bcoz GDM if not properly managed can be fatal to both mother and fetus; For you to have asked this question,I doubt you were properly educated about it.So please,as a matter of urgency,go back to your doctor, talk to him,ask him direct/pointed questions using this comment of mine as a guide.

Medical doctor on this thread finally. Welcome aboard. Is there a reason you wanna go for elective CS?

Team December, I've started feeling kicks but hubby thinks it's all in my head, who else is with me. No bump yet, I'm hoping I can hide this belle until end of August at least but the way it's going...
CC: Adorablewifey
Thank you.My reason for opting for elective CS:I have a very low threshold for pain,so I don't see myself going through the rigours of vaginal delivery.I've delivered so many women of their babies,I've seen what they go through and I honestly don't want to do it.
NB:Even though my 1st delivery ended up being via emergency CS at 35wks+ because of severe pre-eclampsia,I was already scheduled for an elective CS at 38weeks!

-I followed/watched their programme this night. It was cool, especially one of the movies shown"onye ozi"...It was so unlike nollywood movies....wonderful subtitling, good storyline.Watching white people attempt to speak igbo was just hilarious
-But there is need for improvement, especially in subtitling the various series that premiered today.....

-By d way,i dont blame wande at all....she gave in easily to temptation cos she had been both sexually n emotionally starved. It s quite clear from d narration.

Health / Re: The Real Reason Nigerian Hospitals Ask For Police Report In Trauma Patients by cherry24: 6:35pm On Mar 11, 2015
----Any doctor trained in a nigerian teaching hospital knows how things are done in the teaching hospitals. We know how the resident doctors, medical officers and house officers do their work tirelessly. We know about 30 day calls,we know abt no-nonsense senior colleagues,we know about queries,we know about extra calls,we know all about doing more than your very best even in the face of our under - equipped hospitals.......
----Many patients/their relatives see doctors as wicked or lazy or whatever bc we cannot always meet all their expectations with what we have at our disposal.....A patient does not understand that the little blood in d blood bank is strictly for emergency cases (life or death situations),that there may truly not be any more bed space for his admission in a federal teaching hospital, that a medical officer in the emergency room of a govt.hospital may not be able to do much for him unless he makes a deposit bc he is simply following instructions laid down by the same government, that he may need to go somewhere else for certain investigations/tests cos the govt has not made provisions for such in some of their hospitals.....etc
-----I understand all these,i understand patients'/their relatives' frustrations cos they may not know how things really are.
---- What i do not understand is how someone who claims to be a doctor, who might actually have graduated from one of the medical schools in nigeria, someone who is not one of the uninformed, will make allegations as unfounded as what the OP made.
----I was in medical school for six years, did housemanship for one year, then came back for residency after NYSC...8 years altogether(in the same teaching hospital),i have witnessed/heard of only one maternal death,a case of eclampsia, brought in from a maternity home after patient had had several episodes of seizures...and i still remember how solemn the handing-over round was in O/G dept the next morning. The CMAC was even around...
----Nobody ever buys blood from outside d hospital if on admission in a teaching hospital. ...you are only asked to bring a donor who is screened n bled right in the hospital's lab.
----An emergency case is never turned away in a teaching hospital,be it a criminal/gunshot case. All you need to do is report to the necessary authority even as you are resuscitating.
----I can not speak for private hospitals, cos my experience there is quite limited, but i find it hard to believe that all these callousness/malpractice abound there
----I know there are some bad/uncaring doctors, just like there are bad eggs amongst every group of professionals anywhere in the world, what i dont understand is the generalisation.
---- I lost my mum in my teenage years due to what i believe was a doctor's carelessness, but even then,as a young girl,i was not stupid enough to conclude that all doctors were monsters just cos of that...
---I rest my case.....

I honestly don't see myself doing that. How are we going to cope?wat if a baby comes along? IMO,no responsible person(man or woman) goes into marriage without planning adequately;I believe it is grossly irresponsible of a man.I mean,we are talking MARRIAGE here, not just dating!

I was just a teenager, the 1st daughter with so many younger ones.I had just finished secondary school and got admission to study medicine/surgery.That was when death struck, taking a young mother and leaving behind 6 little children plus a one-week old baby. The pain was unbearable. It felt like the end of the world.Dad took it so bad we feared he would commit suicide.I was not given a chance to weep and to mourn you, mum.I was told to take care of the family, and so I forgot about being a child and became a mother to the 6 little ones after me,plus my father.8 years on,the story is pretty much the same.....the pain, the sense of loss, the yearning, the sadness. But,RIP Mummy, your little ones are doing well....you now have a medical doctor,a barrister, undergraduates etc,and lil chubby is now 8yrs old and about to finish primary school, though he keeps wondering why he doesn't have a mummy like his friends.Looking forward to seeing you again on the last day, mom.
