As a political analyst, and following series of consultation with some top politicians in Nigeria

I came to conclusions that the ruling APC purposely used INEC to delay the issuance of certificate of Return Rochas Okorocha to prevent him from contesting for Senate President.

This is a silently calculated plot by the ruling APC because once an election is declared and a winner announced, only the tribunal has the constitutional backings and powers to upturn that election results declared.

Justice Abang Okon last Friday ruled in favour of Rochas and ordered INEC to issue Rochas his certificate of Return.

As it stands, Rochas cannot be for the Senate President again and the ruling APC has finally achieved their mission.

Politics is indeed a sweet game

With the recent news of constitution of the Supreme Court justices to hear the Appeal of Adeleke and PDP of which Justice Rhodes was appointed the chairman of the panel

I hereby call on the APC to call on justice Rhodes to resign from the panel or will I say excuse himself due to conflict of interest.

It is on records that the Rhodes family are die hard members of the PDP and I am aware that justice Rhodes son contested for an elective position under the PDP during the just concluded general election.

I am surprised that the PDP this time has not questioned the constitution of the panel same way Atiku did on the presidential election petitions tribunal.

I will be the most bitter person should APC allow Rhodes to chair this panel.

The question is how will efcc trace this, the LGA chairmen can write a cheque for frivolous stuff and drop the cash wit the governor

The governor's controls the LGA chairmen, they got the chairmen into the offices

Hence the governor's will simply order the chairman to sign cheques for whatever amount the want.

I advice the FG to setup a commission that will oversee the LGA activities and finances.

This commission members should be appointed by the FG with the NEFU and EFCC as members.

INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION

PRESS RELEASE

ON THE ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE OF RETURN FOR IMO WEST SENARTORIAL DISTRICT

The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by the Hon. Justice Okon Abang, directing the Commission to issue a Certificate of Return to Rochas Okorocha as the Senator-elect for Imo West Senatorial District.

The Commission is also aware of and has been served with the Order of a High Court of Imo State, presided over by Hon. Justice Njemanze, directing the Commission not to issue a Certificate of Return to any of the candidates that contested the Imo West Senatorial District election. The Order from the High Court of Imo State was issued on 23rdMay 2019 and the suit has been further adjourned to 26thJune 2019.

The Commission is aware that the judgement delivered by the Federal High Court, Abuja is the latest in time and determined the rights of the parties in relation to the subject matter of the Certificate of Return, in respect of the Imo West Senatorial Election.

The Commission is currently undertaking State level reviews of the 2019 general elections and all the National Commissioners are either in or heading to their States of Supervision to coordinate activities relating to the said review.

In view of the import and directives of the said judgement, the Commission will meet as soon as practicable to do the needful.

As a law-abiding institution, the Commission will continue to obey judgements of all courts of competent jurisdiction.

However, the Commission’s overriding consideration is the safety of its ad-hoc staff, Electoral Officers and Collation/Returning Officers and is worried that if electoral impunity is allowed to flourish, any individual can harass, intimidate and put the Commission’s officers under duress, procure a favourable declaration and be rewarded with a Certificate of Return.
