see OP I've a problem with peeps pursuing shadows... angry
when a nation like the Igbos blows their achievements to the high heavens, like seriously I don't see how that affects you.
if its too noisy for your liking, you've two simple options...
1]close your ears tongue
2]get a vuvuzela and trumpet yours wink
as for my fellow Igbos, when a brother/sister breaks a new frontier..

don't stop shouting saying it,keep shouting it...so that Naijiria would know what YHWH has done for the Great Igbo Biafran nation

but finally...........

all these obsession with Igbos by other Nigerians is beginning to bore me..oga seun can you do something about it?? undecided

You just came here to make a nuisance of urself.

No one is imposing anytin on anybody. The reason most igbos havent heard abt d presence of igala in anambra is because d pple demselves have embraced d Igbo culture. If u bothered to read d OP, u'll see where he was complaining abt his people preferring to speak Igbo. Rather than go and sensitize his pple and create awareness as to their dying heritage he prefers to open a thread on a forum to make demands. Ask him what his pple think of his efforts.

This is not a case of marginalization bt dat of cultural assimilation.
am happy to like your post kos it adds another nail to the stuupidity coffin of that riffraff.

You do know immigration is a very different issue from citizenship.
I have not sought to draw any lesson from the Nazi movement of Germany, but from the fact that Germany is one of the most well Fusioned states in Europe, yet was born out of different tribes, Infact were different sovereign states upto. The 1800s when The German Empire was formed We have a lot of lessons to learn from that, being Africans, where every few kilometres constitutes a distinctly different National identity. If not in the past, at least in our current political reality!
though I intend not to catch you at the jugular, the bold shows ignorance at its highest!!
the term GERMAN has been known to romans since the time of Christ and though they were of different tribes like the Franks, Lombards,Goths etc,the romans called them the Germanic tribes.
by the 10th century with the coronation of King Otto, there was a distinct German nation.
by that 1871 you quoted, there were distinct German states like Bavaria, Württemberg, Baden, Brandenburg-Prussia, Austria before Otto von Bismarck of Prussia united all German states except Austria into the German empire. so using eurocentric simulations as someone said earlier shows you've no grasp of the situation at all

pls am interested in the wars between igala and the omambala and nsuka Igbos.I heard the atta continuously harassed those Igbos till he was finally defeated for good at lake omeluigala.
is there any way I can get that history?

My aunt just confirmed to me that the Nzam people she knew were purely Igbo with no iota of igalla.

I did small digging and found out that the Igalla people in Nzam were invaders, they didn't meet the land empty and had to drive the Igbo groups in the land away, but many of the Igbo groups recovered back some of their original land. So Nzam is not an Igalla town, but an original Igbo settlement, that Igbos now have to share with their Igalla invaders from Idah.
The current Igwe of Nzam, happen to be from the Igbo part of Nzam.en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nzam
I thought so too...imagine invaders demanding same rights as natives even after they've been defeated and yet a riffraff like jonbee won't let us rest??

He meant to "cross river" metaphorically... in other words to acculturate. This thread further reinforces the magnitude of Igbo presence in North Central and South South. Igbo people and land have been dissected, separated, the corollary is what we have today...Igbos scattered everywhere NATIVELY in Delta, Rivers, Cross rivers, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Kogi, e.t.c. I'm Ibibio, guess what? My father speaks fluent Igbo even though he never stepped foot in the SE when he learned it. All he said was it was spoken pre-civil war in the old Cross River state; which includes today's Akwa Ibom. My point is Igalas and Igbos are bothers, same with ibibios and many other tribes in SS, all have Igbo ancestry. Explain why you can hardly differentiate between Igbos, most SS and some North Central(Benue and Kogi) by physical appearance alone. You can easily mistake Gov. AKpabio, Gov. Imoke, Sen. David Mark, Gov. Suswan, Gov. Ameachi, Pres. Jonathan, Peter Odili as Igbos by their physical traits, but can never mistake them for Yoruba or Hausa as their physical traits differ a lot by long margin. So most of us look alike...boils down to same parentage! Most Yoruba will see me and call me Omo Igbo, until I speak Ibibio till they get it I'm not Igbo.lol!

To the OP: One thing you must know is Igbo people are very accommodating of other tribes, I have lived among them, they scare nor fear no one. They are confident in themselves, their abilities and don't see other tribes as a threat. Be appreciative that some stations and channels allot some time for Igala broadcast when Igala only constitute less thn 5% of the population. That's a huge magnanimity on the Igbos I would say. I don't know of any Abuja local channels or Radio stations that speaks Gwarri or Nupe for the real natives of the land. They have all be acculturated as northerners.
of all the tribes bordering the Igbo nation, its the mgbokos(Ibibio-efik) that I appreciate most. they're still steadfast and refuse to see us as enemies who want to dominate them kos they know the truth.
now the ogoni, idoma, igala,Bini with the exception of the ijos are coming to that realization.
apart from Imo and abia that's 100% Igbo and Ebonyi that's 99%,Enugwu and Anambra which are 97% & 98% respectively should do more to acculturate the idomas and igalas living there or exchange them with Igbos living in kogi and Benue states respectively. this way we can rid ourselves of claims and counterclaims of marginalization and exploitation that's common place in Nigeria.
even though we Igbos have a stake in the SS and parts of the middle belt,we respect their cultures smiley

bigfrancis21:
@OP, it is not as if Anambra is superior to other Igbos but its just that it is regarded as a royal thing sort of to be from anambra. Just as Americans, Britons, Australians are all English speaking and genetically the same people but being from England kinda attaches this prestige to you and your English accent stands you out from all other English speakers. Same applies to Anambra people and Anambra Igbo.

Many things contribute to this fact. History has it that Nri-Igbo Ukwu axis in Anambra is the cradle of the Igbo race, from which other Igbos came from. Many other theories exist that say otherwise anyway. Another thing has to do with the Anambra general dialect. Anambra Igbo is deemed posh, sweet-sounding and classy to speak of all Igbo dialects. When one mentions Anambra general Igbo, one refers specifically to the Onitsha/Awka/Enugwu-Ukwu/Nri Igbo that is used to represent Anambra. When I was growing up I used to follow my dad to many social Igbo gatherings, and I observed that the general Igbo spoken was the anambra dialect, and many non-anambra Igbos all spoke the dialect. This is so because it is somewhat the easiest of Igbo dialects to learn and speak and very easy to understand by all other Igbo groups. The Onitsha man does not need to twist his Igbo for any random Igbo person to understand him. He is easily understood by everyone. On the other hand, an Owerri man or Abakaliki man, in order for an outsider to understand him, has to modify his Igbo to be understood. It has also remained the default dialect in most Igbo speaking movies since the inception of Nollywood till today and non-Anambra Igbos all speak the dialect in the movies. Also, for those Igbos who like to form English-speaking Ajebo and classy chic/guy, they can speak Anambra Igbo and not be regarded as ajepako unlike compared to some concentrated Igbo dialects which when spoken Igbos around you will immediately regard you as 'bush person', i.e 'onye ime obodo'. I did my secondary school in Owerri and my Igbo secondary school teacher was from Anambra and we had 2 Igbo teachers that taught us, the second being from Imo state and each assigned to particular classes. Everybody used to enjoy the Anambra woman's class because of her Igbo and her classes were always very full and students from the other classes assigned to the other Igbo teacher would come to my class during Igbo class time just to listen to the woman speak. Anambra Igbo is admired all over Igboland and when in other states, especially Imo and Abia state, and you speak Anambra Igbo, many would often reply you back in the dialect and want you to speak on so they could enjoy it more. I grew up and also did my NYSC in Owerri, Imo state and countless times have I been admired because of my Anambra Igbo accent. My PPA was Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission(ISOPADEC), a commission in charge of all oil producing activities in Imo state but they drafted we corpers out to special schools to impact positively in terms of education to the students. The moment my students knew I was from Anambra, they wouldn't let me be o everyday I came to work. In class, I must speak Anambra Igbo to them or else they'd start making loud noises. grin I usually told them stories, in Anambra Igbo, and they loved it so much each time I did and they would be going crazy because of the dialect. Some even went out of their way to learn the dialect and once I stepped into class, they'd start speaking it to me...and I'd be like... cheesy. I also remember making a call one day to my distant cousin from the same village, I had just bought credit from the store woman and stood nearby making the call in my dialect, and next thing she and her husband came out of their store, to look for that anambra guy speaking this Anambra Igbo, and when they saw it was me and refused to go inside again o but stood there listening to my conversation. When I noticed what was happening, trust me nau smiley, I even increased my tempo and blasted the thing the more...they just stood there smiling at me. cheesy Once I dropped the call, they walked back inside their store smiling. wink Aha, I just made someone's day.grin Or how many times have I gotten away with great deals and bargains at Owerri main market just because I spoke Anambra Igbo. Immediately they knew i'm from Anambra they'll be like...'nwa anambra!'...and tended to ease up and gave me much better deals. Even my mom was loved greatly at FUTO Owerri where she worked just because she's from Anambra...'nwanyi Anambra' as they would fondly call her.

Anambra people are also known by other Igbos to be hardworking, have money, or good at business and Imolites the ones going to school the most in Igboland. Many high profile Igbo indigenes tend to come from Anambra such as Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, Cosmas Maduka aka Cosharis, owner of Ekene dili Chukwu Motors, Ifesinachi Motors, owner of Innoson motors, Dora Akunyili, Oby Ezekwesili, Philip Emeagwali(aka father of the Internet), Pete Edochie, Oge Okoye, P Square, Flavour etc are all from Anambra. Last year, one of our family friends from Ebonyi state told me how majority of the real estate properties and high-profile buildings and houses in Abakaliki are owned by Anambra people. It is the desire of many non-anambra girls to marry an Anambra man because they believe they would not suffer financially. Anambra men and women make very good husbands and wives too.

And also, anambra people help each other a lot! We call it, 'ime nwanne' ie 'brotherly relationships'. This is one big difference I noticed between Anambrarians and Imolites. Anambra people tend to be nicer and kinder. It is common to find a selfless person or an averagely rich man/woman in Anambra training orphans, less-priviledged people, distant relations or people not related to him in anyway all through primary, secondary and university, feeding and clothing them in addition. This is quite rare to find in Imo state. In Enugu township(formerly Anambra's state capital and still retains mainly Anambra Igbo, many Anambra people live there, and the Anambra attitude) or Awka(capital of Anambra state), you can literally run out of transport money on the streets and walk up to people to plead for money and before you reach the 3rd person you would have found someone who would give you the money you need in full, however in Imo state you would have to reach the 15th or 20th person to find someone willing to help you out. Being kind is a rarity in Imo state but a normal thing in Enugu or Anambra state.

It is not my intention to extol anambra state or anambra Igbo but I am giving you an insider's view, as an Igbo person born and bred in Igboland, of the extra attention given to Anambra state and people in Igboland by other Igbos.
I agree with you...Anambra is meant to be the light of the Igbo nation. anything that brings succour to Igbos most likely has to be from there.
am an abian who has an imolite mum and also I live in owerri so am quite familiar with her claims. the only part I disagree is the superiority part and as per royalty, the only royal Igbos are those from the house of Eri..hope to marry someone from there too wink

obayaya: There's a central Igbo known as Igbo Nzugbe.. That's the igbo used in writing all igbo textbooks and for teaching in classrooms.
yep...and that izugbe is standard Igbo
when they started newly they called it central Igbo kos its based on the owerri and umuahia dialects.
but when they needed to expand the vocabulary, they saw that the 2 dialects couldn't provide the needed vocab so they had to move to other dialects to incorporate words not found in these 2 dialects. so from ikwerre to ika to nsuka to aro, even from opobo and bonny they took words to expand our vocabulary that's why they called it izugbe meaning Igbo common to all or standard Igbo.
