Now we're going to look at the vocabulary of the language and the corresponding characters for each of the terms. These terminologies would be grouped based on common denominators. The first group we'd be looking at is that of water bodies |
Noneroone:Rukwo bu aha ndi ihuruohna nyere ndi Ijo no Rivers state dika ndi kalabari na kirike... Ya mere ndi Igbo nākpo ndi Ijo nile ndi MbaMmiri nke putara "water Nation" mana ndi kalabari na kirike bu ndi ndi ikwerre nākpo Rukwo |
joeprince23:Of course... The ubani and the ukwa are one people.. A subset of the Igbo nation |
hammerF:Ohh yes the islanders speak Igbo... The Igbo spoken by the ukwa tribe is the type they speak. Bonny island according to history was discovered by an ngwa chieftain called alagbariye... The Rukwo later peopled the island but during the slave trade the island regained its Igbo majority and it has been like that since then. Most of the Igbos in Rivers SE zone descended from the ukwa tribe in present Abia and Rivers states. Bonny island is called Agwæ Ubani in Igbo |
Agumbankembu:O ka mma sef O nweghi umuaka gētoputa gho ndi agha a gēji buso ndi Igbo agha, nihi na aguu egbuchapula ha ![]() Ndi foronu nwa ihe o bula, anyi e sure ala awusa oku kuo ya nnu ka ihe ghara ito nga ahu ozo ![]() |
hucienda:Kikikikikukukiki ![]() My fingers are also crossed to see who it is that'd be replacing General Ironsi Unfortunately there's no one I can point my hand to ![]() |
nengibo:Biko don't reply again jare...that's the most logical thing to do after being battered with facts, but due to your lack of wit you waited for ekine to tell you As long as Rivers has Igboid groups every Igbo would be interested to know what's happening there...and we can't help you if you feel uncomfortable with that fact ![]() |
nengibo:As an Igbo, am concerned about the six full Igbo states of Abia, Anambra, Anioma, Ebonyi, Enugwu and Imo and the half Igbo state of Rivers. Coming to Rivers, here's how the zonal arrangement went Rivers West:- kalabari, ekpeye, ogba, egbema, ndoni and ubani Rivers East:- ihuruohna, echee, kirike Rivers SE:- Ogoni, southern ukwa, opobo and western obolo So since odili from West has ruled, Amaechi and Wike from East are ruling, its only just that the southern ukwa take over from wike as it switches from East to SE Rivers. Or are you not for peace and justice anymore ![]() |
nengibo:Hurt No ![]() Just putting things in perspective Anyway as someone who believes in equity, and considering that the southern ukwa were dragged to Rivers against their will, and also taking into cognizance the zonal arrangement of the state, I support the southern ukwa for governorship after wike's tenure. Ekinematics:Chai.... The comment seriously pained the kirike man oo Ndo I nula? ![]() |
nengibo:When the Brits overran Nigeria, they reorganized it based on tribal affiliations...that's why the southern ukwa was put in Aba province, the egbema was put in Owerre province, the ndoni was put in aboh province, the opobo and the Western obolo was put in opobo province which was grouped under calabar group of provinces. Even when MI Okpara in 1959 reorganized the provinces of Eastern Nigeria, all he did was to divide the the mixed ethnic provinces and make it them more monoethnic...and in that he didn't touch opobo, the only ones affected where calabar and ogoja divisions as he separated the Eastern Igbos in those provinces and made them into abakaliki province(present day Ebonyi state) while attaching the Arochukwu/ohafia parts to bende province. So you can see that everyone aside the landgrabbing Rukwo knows that the obolos belong to the Mmoŋo group of languages. Moreover opobo is sitting on obolo land,so technically opobo despite their being Igbo speaking belong to the Mmoŋo group. Anyway time is coming when all these things would be corrected ![]() |
nengibo:Who do think you're fooling Opobo and Western Obolo was supposed to be in AKS... It was still your Ijo people through greed via your natural boundaries logic that made the FG divide opobo with its western part in RS and its Eastern part in AKS. And I know how painful it is for Jaja to look from the netherworld and see that the Ijo people through greed has divided his kingdom into two Truly the Rukwo landgrabbing tendency is really causing problems ![]() |
Ekinematics:This hateful kirike man Its the greed of your Rukwo people that the southern ukwa are trying to correct by insisting on going back to Abia state. These groups have no business being in Rivers state ndoni, egbema, southern ukwa, opobo and Western obolo but because of the huge greed for other people's land your people show, the FG carved those territories into old rivers state but when the time come, they like stolen properties would be returned to where it came from. ![]() |
nengibo:The Igboid and Kegboid tribes would vote them of course...its only your Rukwo haters that won't and since Rivers is 60% Igbo, 15% Ogoni and 25% Rukwo, they already have the 75% they need. Moreover whatever hate politics Rivers state is playing now was started by the Rukwo... So don't come playing innocent here ![]() |
Dedetwo:Which is the same thing as with the Mmoŋo groups... Substantiating the stories I've heard that the old Aba division was formerly Mmoŋo land until the ngwa/ndoki/asa groups came and drove them off and settled in their stead. And that the Annaŋ would've suffered the same fate from the ngwa if that their people resisted them in several decisive battles ![]() Anyway, akwaete now means father's cloth ![]() |
ObaEwuare:But he's correct in a way though... The main languages of Afrika are French to West and center and English to the East and South. And excluding Arabic, Oromo and the Ethiopic languages, every other language is written using Latin, whether it fits it or not. Another thing that spurred me is the mercantile nature of the Igbo... Most of them go to the Sinophone world to do business, so I thought it'd be good if we could bring up a system that uses Chinese characters to write Igbo. This in my view would enhance understanding and more respect btwn the two groups. I want a situation where in public notices in Igbo would be both in Latin and Han.... You know a situation where a word has different meanings based on tone, its only the accompanying characters that gives an insight as to what's been inferred there. These are some of the benefits one can get using duality of systems |
Curlieweed:Yes...I was even part of the Nsibiri project, but when I saw the limitations, I had to suspend my participation. And no...this does not seek to replace Latin... But to enhance its understanding as regards use of Igbo language |
HopeAtHand:Taa mechie onu nye ihuruohna a ![]() After wike ndoki should occupy brick house |
Dedetwo:Akwa Ete What does the term "ete" mean? |
Well... Let's go into basic terms 1] ala is 土 2] elu is 上 3] echi/etiti is 中 4] ugwu is 山 So to write the name of a city like Enugwu, all you need is just two characters 上山 to give us Enugwu ![]() |
pazienza:Creation of an alternative writing system for Igbo language. Igbo as we all know is tonal, which makes Latin unable to fit into the work of representing the language properly. So now we've decided to look at hanzi as an alternative.. Its still in progress anyway ![]() |
Well our team has been on this project for some time now,and we thought we can share our progress with the wider Igbo world. With this our Nation can join the league of nations who used/still use hanzi as their official writing system. We're still working and won't stop till it turns out perfectly ![]() Nnoo/Alua ![]() |
nengibo:Like you always say this is about the southern ukwa and not about the ihuruohna or the ika,so stay on course. When their time reach we'd talk about them ![]() |
nengibo:Guy those are ngwa names...and it goes further to prove that the ukwa and the ngwa came from one source. Or have ngwa names turned to Rukwo names in your eyes? |
Ikechu10:Biko ka anyi soro gi chia ya ochi ![]() |
nengibo:I don't think this one reached the level of igbophobia you ijos perpetrated in old Rivers state. No wonder the southern ukwa have been shouting to any who cares to listen that they wanna go back to Abia state. Just be thankful Abia state hasn't taken any official stance on the matter ![]() |
nengibo:And they've stated clearly that there's nothing Rukwo about them. Unlike the Eastern Rukwo tribes that are descendants of acculturated Igbos, the ukwa tribe has said in clear terms that they're part of the great Igbo Nation. Infact during the war the ukwa and their ngwa brothers fought stubbornly to prevent Federal troopers led by an Ijo called boro from capturing Afam. Moreover the two sister tribes the ukwa and the ngwa have been together in Aba province until the greed of the Ijo made the FG carve southern ukwa into Rivers. |
nengibo:Why not close your mouth since you no longer have what to say ![]() If you're making noise that "ikaki" is a Rukwo term found in ukwa dialect, I've kalabari and kirike dictionaries from which I can fish out thousands of Igbo terms currently in use. Maybe I can lay claims to those two tribes as Igbo afterall most of their ancestry was from Igboland. When the time comes, the southern ukwa would rejoin their brothers in Abia state |
nengibo:just legodu the childish lies you're bandying about... how can a group that was added in 1976 turn out to be one of the main voices for the creation of the main program that was created in 1967?? go and look at Rivers '67 map...did you see obigbo, egbema, ndoni, opobo, Western obolo and Western Ijo there in fact the only Igboid chieftain that argued for inclusion into Rivers was Oriji from emohua in ikwerre. permit me to say that unless the Igbo Nation deal decisively with the Rukwo, she'd not be free to confront the other two. keep provoking Igbo sentiments over obigbo...when the time comes the 30 tribes of the Igbo Nation would ensure that justice is done to the southern ukwa |
nengibo:nope.. she's surprised at the ability of your Rukwo people to steal other peoples lands with a straight face |
nengibo:pig calling donkey long ears ![]() |
joeprince23:Wait Abua/Odua wants to be shifted to bayelsa state That's very good then..it simply makes the job easier when the time comes ![]() |
