Sis..please dont feel offended.......i did not mean to upset you from my last statement. Just airing my opinion. i am saying what is applicable for most of us in Naija. I am embarking on the birth tourism and I can categorically beat my chest that why i am doing this is for citizenship for my LO, likewise most of the people i know here too and is not a crime....There is still very good medical services here in Naija. Your last statement "cos I am pretty sure the story would have been different if this was Nigeria" looks very slighted to we that live here because I know it is not true and can never be true. You cant be sure when you live in Yankee. Anyway,No pun intended.

Rejoice with me, my pink-lip princess made her grand entrance this morning at 7:50am, weighing 3.8kg at 39 weeks (by LMP) via ceaserran section.

It was purely the wonders of God as fluid was completely dried.
Mummy and baby alive and well, Daddy over the moon with ecstasy, grandparents rejoicing over the new title

Please please please. I implore all mothers here to insist on a jaundice test for our babies before leaving the hospital to avoid stories that touch. I wanted to share my experience with neonatal jaundice after Liftedhands mentioned her niece's case, but I decided to wait till all of it has passed so that I don't jinx myself....Lol, I know I know, I'm African like that.

Mamas, please, let us always insist on the hospital we birth type baby's blood after birth, compare it to mothers own and then carry out a jaundice test before we get discharged from the hospital. Here is my experience, It was only God that saved us. And thankfully now, everything is behind us. After baby E.J's birth, he was sleepy and lethargic and would not eat. I noticed his eyes were a bit yellow but wasn't too worried. The next day, the yellow was very pronounced and I mentioned it to my mother in law. His pediatrician came and ordered bloodwork and there it was discovered that his bilirubin level was 17!!! Jeez!

Immediately the staff swung into action. He was wheeled into the NICU. 7 bilirubin lights were placed on him and also a bili blanket was placed underneath him. His cord was completely cut off and tubes put in. When I asked why, they said it was because he might need an exchange blood transfusion and they needed to be ready. That was when they told me he would need to be transferred to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera, cos they can't handle the transfusion at the hospital where he was born oo. I nearly cried blood. My baby was sick and I can't do nothing. The doctor called the other hospital and in 50 minutes they were here, they flew in with an air ambulance. My child had to be airlifted the children's hospital. We drove after them and went to meet them there

Give it to American hospitals, before we got to the hospital, treatment was already ongoing. He was placed on bilirubin lights and a bilirubin blanket and had already received a dose of IVIg. They also inserted a feeding tube in his nose. That sight is something I'll never forget. This is my child, barely 24 hours old and already going through this. They were testing his bilirubin levels every 4 hours. And by the next day, his level had reduced to 14 or 15. It continued decreasing everyday and gradually they began to remove the lights until they removed it all. He started eating and became more and more awake and alert and playful. He even removed the feeding tube in his nose three times. Thank God!

We spent almost 2 weeks in the hospital and I do not wish that experience on my enemy. It was especially tough cos I had to leave my newborn in the NICU while I go to my hotel room to sleep, I so much wanted to hold him and bond with him but I couldn't. So mothers, please always insist on a bilirubin test for your newborns. I also got to know what caused him to have so much bilirubin in him. It was because of something called ABO incompatibility. You see, I'm blood group O+ and hubby is B+. E.J got his Dad's B+ and while he was inside of me, his blood crossed through into my bloodstream. Anybody with blood type O+ or O- reacts in a certain way when other blood types are introduced into their bloodstream. They begin to develop antibodies to attack the presumed foreign blood group which in this scenario was my baby's blood. So while he was in-vitro, he was fine. The moment he was born, my antibodies in him started breaking down his red blood cells which caused his severe jaundice. And because his liver was so young, it could not keep up with filtering out the bilirubin.

Thank God he was diagnosed and treated fast and in a timely and aggressive manner. He received tons of phototherapy and 3 doses of IVIg. God bless America Mehn, cos I am pretty sure the story would have been different if this was Nigeria.

Congrats dear..we will not lose our young ones....But this is careless act from their end because Jaundice should always be part of the package pediatrics always check for while running routine check on new born.

Thank God for His intervention but there are still quite number of Nigeria hospitals that will still do better in terms of putting in proactive measure. The most important thing is when choosing a hospital - whether in Naija or Yankee, choose good one with good and experienced doctors . Let us even tell ourselves the truth - Most people that birth abroad, they do it not because of good medical service, na because of citizenship for their Lo

Aside being careful with all these private hospitals, if you are using HMO, be careful too.

I have discovered this, the problem is not with the HMOs, but with hospitals. They give less of what you ask for, ask you to go and buy prescribed drugs out there but Bill the HMOs for it!

Most people under the cover of HMO is paying are not careful. Because it is free they go for it.

My casesthis is for first time mums)
I used two hospitals when I was preggy, private (HMO) and government. I gave birth in a government hospital and I thank God I did. I gave birth through CS, if you see my tommy is as flat as I never had twins from it and you hardly will notice the incision part now. I was thought and also sampled on how to treat it.

We did all the tests and kids were certified ok before leaving hospital.

My ugly experience with private hospital after birth;
We moved to a different location far away from the government hospital where I gave birth so I started using HMO hospital again. My kids feel ill and were coughing, ordinary antibiotics this naughty hospital said they don't have. ' go and buy', we bought it plus their routine vitamin c and piriton and they continue coughing and no eating. For one week we were parading hospital.

Finally hubby said never he is goin to complain to his office. The HR called the HMO and they referred us to another clinic, waooo, they are first class, in 30 minutes they were diagnosed of whatever I don't really remember now, and immediately were placed on injections. My kids that weren't eating started eatin that day.

Another ugly experience with the same hospital of recent was when my baby contacted infection and instead of doing test the doctor said it is clinical. HMO referred us to another hospital and test was conducted and treated in two days.

My conclusion; always speak with your HMO, they tell you 'not covered by HMO ' but still bill them for it. They get you to sign a blank invoice and proceed to write whatever service they did not render when you leave.

Not all HMO clinics are bad, not all private clinics are bad. I have had five private hospital/HMO experience and from my experience with the five, three are good and one is fair, one is very bad. This bad one is stratiflgically located and very close to us, reason why we still go there but my people, I have decided to rather face the traffic and drive 1 hour down to a good place where my kids will be treated well and better than walk in to the hospital where we had to be referred for even a common case of cold. I really don't want to mention them cos they are popular.

The most important thing one need to know about HMO is the package your organisation subscribed for you and what you are entitle to. You cant be on silver and expect to be given all that is covered in Gold or platinum package. Also have all the benefits accrued to you handy and know your right and your privileges. Understand all the clauses in the contract. For instance, Some of my colleagues that birthed abroad never knew that are entitle to some amount to be refunded after childbirth , only on the condition that you submit all documents one month within child delivery. They eventually did not get the money...Others in other units that knew got the money. Also those HMO will not tell you, they will be waiting for you not to ask so they save cost

So ignorance constitute major problem in HMO usage.

Now I have 6weeks leave dis year which won't roll over till next year but as a January mama who is due for 27th, there is some possibility of porting to early February. I don't know if I should just take my 6weeks leave now, resume January and prepare for maternity leave afterwards or I forfeit d leave for d year and focus mainly on maternity leave which is till next year............If I start my leave now, won't it affect my agility for d next few weeks of pregnancy? Yet, I need some rest.
Pls mamas, I'm so confuse on what to decide on

P.S....no leave request will be granted for December, expect I start now and end it in December

Babe, please take your leave and rest wella... I have my annual 25 working days leave but have option of carrying over 10 days to first quarter next year...So I am starting 1st week in December and will take everything back to back and then commence my maternity leave.

Agility or not...You need rest. Abeg no allow anyone brainwash you. Take your leave and have enough rest, then resume back for some time and commence maternity leave. My Own na from December to May next year ( My annual leave and 4 months maternity leave ). If anyone shout, make they come carry the belle dey commute work daily and see how e dey be

Rant Time!
I was at the hospital today and scan was saying I'm 41 weeks already!
I have since been working with my LMP and earliest scan for accuracy, and I still have like 2 weeks by that...
But scan recorded post date for me today

Plus, my baby is on the big side Baby is said to be measuring 4.1kg
And no imminent sign of labour yet

The head is fully engaged, in fact, doc had to press down on my hoohaa to locate baby's head.
How do I make labor start biko?!! This pikin is just there chopping up, despite all my weight control measures

I'm not tired of the pregnancy o, just scared of the increasing weight. Wetin I go do ooo?!

I no believe those scan. DH took me on Saturday to one place around Oshodi they call Clinix for a scan. He asked them whether na 3D, they said yes. We paid and we found out na 1D scanner...my gestational moved by 2 weeks...Baby now weighing 1.7kg. EDD moved from 12th to 4th Jan. Baby will be big..the sonographer screamed.
I became a shadow of myself..I no sleep that night..I wan die inside Google..no explanation.
On Tuesday, I went to my hospital and they scanned the baby and it was normal week e suppose be and baby weighed 1.45 which is ok for the gestational age. Abeg i will aadvise you don't give yourself headache..

I suspected the hernioq or whatever moniker but i decide to keep numb when i made my point about his/her preposition that MIL can sleep anywhere and i was washed down by one Mama that said "today is prayer Monday, bla bla bla..."

I always raise suspicious on people that comes to social media to make financial appeals indirectly or saying something to attract financial sympathy. If social media never existed, does it mean one cannot meet his /her financial obligations what happens to relatives and your physical contacts that you have had relationship with overtime before the inception of social media

I reserve my further opinions but we should be cautious too and read between lines.

You mentioned you were lodged... I assume it was Emirates that lodged you right? Did you have to do / pay anything extra to get the accomodation?

You are not entitle to an accommodation on Emirate with promo ticket. Same with Qatar too....Please ensure you confirm your ticket with them as to whether you are entitle to an accommodation before you pay so you will not be faced with surprise..

Anyway, I and my DH rather lie on a mat that lying on a bed and then relegate the Mat for my mother or mother in law when they visit. They should be more comfortable than us because visitation is a sacrifice from their end

Also decide on time, because if you are initially doing hebrew woman and decide you later on, you want to be egyptian woman... the anaesthetist may be busy in theatre at the time you decide and you will have to wait......1 minute will be like 40 days!

the cons of back pain" is debatable as to if it is the epidural itself or just bad posture new moms seem to have mostly from breastfeeding in the wrong position or multitasking while carrying baby... all these things alter our postures so all the bad press is not entirely justified.

there is a small risk of paralysis, however that is why it is usually carried out by a specialist and you have to keep really still when the needle is being inserted - also a good reason to have it done when the pain is still bearable so that you can still keep still when the contraction hits.

it might slow down labour but you will be constantly monitored and ensure this is not the case.

You may not feel the contractions and know when to push, but you should have a monitor that tracks you contractions and the nurse/ doctor will guide you on when you need to push.

Is it worth it.... HELLL yeah!

Had epidural for cs, I guess it is, given in the spine, with a very long needle. Well, though wasn't so effective (painless, but they estimated it wont last through the whole process) on me (had it for 10min, just enough to see my kid, then I was knocked out)... was put on general anaesthesia once baby was out.

My side effect was Back ache. I was pre-warned. On and off back ache for about a year.

Amongst the long lecture I received was the possibility of losing functionality of your waist down for life, but very rarely... please this must be admistared by specialist only... on the whole of Abuja, i
learnt they are not up to 3.

Will I do it again... oh yes!!!

Completely pain free labour and delivery. Was busy chewing on ice lolly while watching TV

Cons( My experience )
It slowed down my labour
I had body and joint pains for some time after delivery

Backache
I am really glad I took the epidural with my last delivery it just made childbirth seem so easy. My first two were without and I just didn't want to experience labour pain a 3rd time. If your hospital is able to do it properly then go for it.

Please, Is it advisable to use epidural I want to opt for it ooo....This contraction pain wey i dey hear, e get as e dey do me for body.

What are the Prons and cons of Epidural...Abeg, Experienced Mama makeuna chuk mouth for this request.
