Lemme guess, you meant 6 months...and your agent misinformed you about your visa approval. If I am right, you have a visitor visa and are trying to get a job with that before travelling.
No sir, It does not work like that. You are not eligible to work with a Visitor visa, you will need a work permit.

$1,300 in Vancouver? hehe, what year are we talking about?
Pay4MeApp:
1. Toronto, Ontario
Toronto is the most diverse city in Canada and an excellent choice for Nigerian immigrants. It offers a vibrant cultural scene, including an annual Afrofest celebration and a thriving economy. In addition, Toronto is home to several prestigious universities and colleges — which makes it an ideal location for Nigerian students.

The cost of living in Toronto can be relatively high, but there are affordable neighborhoods available for those on a budget. According to Numbeo, a single person's monthly cost of living in Toronto can range from CAD 1,400 to CAD 3,000, depending on their lifestyle and location.

Regarding job opportunities, Toronto has a high demand for project managers, web developers, registered nurses, physicians, and business analysts.

2. Vancouver, British Columbia
Vancouver is known for its stunning natural beauty, mild climate, and diverse population. The city has a thriving job market, especially in the tech, film, and tourism industries. Vancouver also offers a vibrant cultural scene, with various festivals and events celebrating different cultures.

The cost of living in Vancouver is higher than in other Canadian cities, but it is still relatively affordable compared to other major cities worldwide. A person's monthly living cost in Vancouver is within CAD 1,300, depending on their lifestyle and location.

Travel / Re: How Can I Change My Canada Visiting Visa To A Student Visa by Childofthelord(f): 5:31am On Feb 15, 2023
Is this playing? OP, that path you are trying to take is a dead end, have you heard or seen anyone "update" from visitor to student on visa? Honestly, it bothers me that you think it is possible. Do not let anyone deceive you or sell false hopes.

And I hope you haven't burnt your bridges back home. Make sure you leave Canada before your visitor visa expires then apply for a study visa from your country of origin. Atleast you now have history of haven travelled to Canada and RETURNED. Thats a plus on your application. Good luck!
Okonandmary:
Therr is nothing God can not do

First take your passport to any nigerian church close to you.

Open the passport page to where your visa is and tell God to help you change it to student passport

Close your passport,go home and do not open it for 3 days.

On the 4th day, open your passport, the invisible God will change your visiting visa to student visa.

Travel / Re: Canada Breaks Record By Welcoming Over 437,000 New Immigrants In 2022 by Childofthelord(f): 9:03am On Jan 08, 2023
Interesting data.
From this data sheet, you can tell that at least 70% of immigrants from Africa are Nigerians...theoretically, the factors driving mass immigration from Nigeria is not as prevalent in other African countries. On a second thought, from a country of over 200 million people, the digits up there are only a fraction. I think measuring by percentage would make a fare judgement.
Quick math, no of immigrants divided by country's population x100
From my calculation... 0.0096% of Nigerians immigrated to Canada in 2022.
Niger Republic only had 80 of its folks immigrating... so 0.00032% of Nigeriens
Looking at Ghana...0.0034%

Yeah, Nigeria is still up there.
Would love to see immigration stats from the UK and US as regards African countries, i'd prolly do a small research article to check this theory. Ohhh, I just remembered the thousands of undocumented immigrants travelling through the sea and other unknown routes... the numbers up there most likely reflect of the immigrants from the middle-upper class of said country (the ones selling their properties and leaving high-paying jobs). hmmmmmm thats something to think about..

Ps: i loved maths in school so....

ednut1:
Today, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that Canada exceeded a record-breaking target for admissions of permanent residents in 2022.

In a Tweet, IRCC stated that Canada welcomed over 437,000 new immigrants last year. This is higher than the target they had set at 431,645 new immigrants and marks an all-time record for Canadian permanent residence admissions in one year. The previous record was set in 2021 when Canada landed over 405,000 new immigrants.

“Today marks an important milestone for Canada, setting a new record for newcomers welcomed in a single year.” said immigration minister Sean Fraser. “It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people. Newcomers play an essential role in filling labour shortages, bringing new perspectives and talents to our communities, and enriching our society as a whole. I am excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another historic year in 2023 as we continue to welcome newcomers.”

Discover if You Are Eligible for Canadian Immigration

IRCC processed 5.2 million applications across all lines of business in 2022. This includes applications for permanent residence, temporary residence and citizenship and is double the number of applications processed in 2021.

IRCC credits new resources, new technology, streamlined processing, and bringing more processes online for the increase in applications processed, as well as the high number of admissions. The government also committed $50 million to IRCC for 2022-2023 in the Fall Economic Statement to address the ongoing backlog of applications, which stands at 1.09 million applications across all lines of business as of November 30, 2022.

Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025
Canada’s admission targets are set out in the annual Immigration Levels Plan. The plan for 2022 was released in February 2022, with the highest admission targets ever, until the 2023-2025 plan was released.

Canada’s labour force growth is almost 100% dependent on immigration. There are nearly one million job vacancies in Canada and a shortage of skilled labour due to the aging workforce. Immigrants are vital to Canada’s economy as it is expected that nine million Canadians will reach the retirement age of 65 by 2030. Canada’s aging population means that the worker-to-retiree ratio is expected to shift from 7 to 1 50 years ago to 2 to 1 by 2035.

Additionally, almost 75% of Canada’s population growth depends on immigration because Canada has one of the lowest global birth rates at 1.4 children per woman.

To boost the population, Canada has been striving to welcome higher numbers of immigrants in recent years. According to the 2021 census on immigration, 1.3 million new permanent residents arrived in Canada between 2016 and 2021. Put another way, one out of every four respondents were or had been a landed immigrant or permanent resident in Canada, the highest proportion since Confederation and the largest proportion among G7 countries. It is expected that immigrants will account for 36% of Canada’s population by 2036.

Looking ahead, the immigration levels plan 2023-2025, which was released in November, has an even more ambitious target of 500,000 new permanent residents each year by 2025. The target for 2023 is 465,000.

Well well, for me sha, what gives me the most ick about Canada is the people.
I am not an extrovert but whenever I am working with people or around folks with whom I share common objectives (e.g classmates), I yearn for that communal vibe within and without. Often times, if you are not a best-friend, boy friend, cousin...close relative sha...they seek no form of real friendship with you, one that lasts long. I miss that.

It's easy to say, "put yourself out there", "join this and join that" but there is something refreshing about being able to have a good conversation with someone at the bus stop or the grocery shop. Come on, no one stays in their house 24/7, 365 days a year, but the people you meet in your day to day activities are what makes your life fufilling. I call it "the natural vibe from my father's land", nothing compares to that.
That being said Canada is indeed livable, and has all everything you need to live and work as a law-abiding citizen, but just like poutine, it can't be for everyone.

In terms of church activities, a lot of members do celebrate birthdays.. birthdays are big deal in many oyibo land no matter how poor or rich you are ,.. Is OP willing to attend birthdays? One needs to make an effort before one will be socially included... take the first step by joining and see what happens...

OP said he has been in Canada for 3 yrs...So within that space of three years, he has never ran into any Nigerian?.. If he has,Did he ask him or her if he was a member of Nigerian association? Did he ask where they usually hold their monthly meetings?... even If that individual is not a member, I believe he might make an effort to help OP locate who is a member... I don't think OP is making an effort at all...

It's funny how we love to downplay the cold. Put on all the layers you want, under -10 you don't want to be outside for longer than 10 minutes. You will never see anyone chilling outside because they have the appropriate dressing on. The only time you will be sweating is when you get inside. Let's call a spade what it is. Canada is very cold, and for the average African, it'll hardly feel like home except during summer.

Travel / Japa Update: International Students In Canada Can Now Work Full-time! by Childofthelord(f): 12:33am On Oct 08, 2022
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today announced the temporary lifting of the 20-hour-per-week cap on the number of hours that eligible post-secondary students are allowed to work off-campus while class is in session.

From November 15, 2022, until December 31, 2023, international students who are in Canada and who have off-campus work authorization on their study permit will not be restricted by the 20-hour-per-week rule. Foreign nationals who have already submitted a study permit application, as of today, will also be able to benefit from this temporary change, provided their application is approved

Source: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2022/10/international-students-to-help-address-canadas-labour-shortage.html

My thoughts…
This is really exciting! International students can now work more hours, which will enable them to fend for themselves and pay tuition.
Many…I mean many folks will attempt to defer admission, take gap years or skip classes to work.
IRCC is about to see massive immigration through the study route come 2023.
If there was ever a Japa wave, it just got started.

What are some pros or cons that you would anticipate from this new development? Kindly share.

I made about $12k. 10% of my income went to taxes, I payed for accomodation, feeding, transportation, phone bill and others MONTHLY. I was able to save only $4500. Get you facts right. Besides OP is just seeking engagement, he knows better.

Travel / An Open Letter To Nigerian Japa Aspirants by Childofthelord(f): 3:16pm On Sep 01, 2022
Dear Japa aspirants,

You need to develop research skills, learn to access first-hand information and stop crying about knowledge hoarding. Look, data is cheap, almost everyone has access to an electronic device, and everything is online. Google and Youtube are the best free databases on the internet. Learn how to use them to your advantage.

The truth is, you will always feel/be at a disadvantage when you subject the extent of your success to word-of-mouth tips and advice. Sometimes I wonder what information people are “hoarding”, that is not available on the internet. That is why you are getting scammed, cheated and lied to because you lack the discretion /interest to verify and research information on your own.

Matter of fact, immigration guidelines change quite frequently. Those who have Japa-ed already are hardly checking up on the new pathways to PR or the cheapest universities for international students, you should be the one doing that! Your immigration consultants and agents all get their updates from official government websites that are readily available to everyone. Develop your research skills! It will help you a long way, be conversant with official sources, government websites and the likes, and double-check the tidbits you hear. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek advice or tips from someone that has been there and done that, but that should not be the entirety.

Lastly, nobody is hoarding any information! Every information you will need to immigrate to any part of the country is readily on the internet. If you have questions about a certain program in a particular university, go to their website, there are emails, and phone numbers that you can call. Learn the process and be persistent! Stop waiting for ready-made information! Stop waiting for someone to do their due diligence and then spoon-feed you. You will continue to be disadvantaged and left behind if you do not know how to get first-hand information.

By the way, you shouldn't halt your immigration plans simply because Nigerians in the diaspora are discouraging you. Go and verify!

Yours in flight,
Childofthelord

You would have to do your research, there is at least one nursing school in each province. So, depending on where you plan to settle, make findings of the closest nursing school; pre-requisites, admission eligibility, tuition etc. would be on their website. Btw most 4-year BN programs only do yearly intakes in September, 2-year LPN programs sometimes take in candidates during the winter term, so get your search engines running smiley

The most marketable hands-on skill in the Nigerian diaspora market is Hair dressing.
A typical African hair stylist in US charges between $150 - $300 per head for braids.
And if you are really good at your job, your work will do the referrals by itself + ladies make their hair frequently.
If you can also make wigs on the side, you will make bank!

Sometimes I look back at this post and realize how desperate I was to crawl back to my comfort zone, where communal living is the norm, where I can easily make friends and vibe with folks who effortlessly hear my tongue. I wanted to feel the warmth, liveliness and energy of the life I used to live, a few years ago.
I yearn for true friendship, valuable connections, lasting relationships, genuine acquaintances...everything else is going pretty well but, I wanted to be part of something, like a family, I wanted to feel much more valued and appreciated. I wanted to be somebody to someone, not a boyfriend or husband lol no, I mean a circle of people I can rely on and vice versa. I have felt so lost that I wanted my people and I wanted it fast!
That's where the thought of going back to Nigeria for NYSC crept in, it felt like the best thing to do at the time. But alas, I forgot, I am in a different dimension, a "new dispensation", another man's land, therefore I have to learn to build what I truly desire. I have to quit trying to run back to my father’s land and disembrace the palette of my mother's tongue. It's been a slow, steady and unravelling journey. I am especially grateful to all the kind and loving people on this forum who have shown me nothing but love, encouragement and well-meaning advice, may the Lord continue to bless and comfort you all. I am still learning, growing, and crying sometimes, but I assure you, I am in a better place now. Thank you!

For Fall 2022? I can asure you 99% of BN applications are already closed. If you are really serious about studying BN in any Canadian university, you had better start your research and know the prequisites needed for appplication come January 2023. Some Nursing schools are more competitive than others, there are tons of information online about various nursing schools including tution, required courses etc. And if you prefer Licenced Practical Nursing, its just 2 years for most universities. Either ways, do your research and know what you want. Adios
