RomanceRe: Why Are Men Uninterested Nowadays by Childofthelord(f):
Ma'am, there is no sugar coating here! now do you want to fix this? First off, admit that you were wrong. I understand what you mean by not "wanting to be desperate" but the truth is, you took the wide wrong route. Leaving him on read for 2 days? Haba! He prolly thought you were no longer interested or never really liked him. Even when my own girl friends leave me on read, I feel unwanted and undervalued.
And for how long will you continue to hide your true feelings?
You need to let go of whatever past trauma or experiences that are dictating your current situation. Sis, everyone makes mistake, if this guy is still within reach, Call him, apologize and let him know your true intentions. Be original, be genuine, be happy and God will bless you with a good spouse. Shalom

TravelApplying For NYSC After Studying Abroad by Childofthelord(op): 2:30pm On Feb 27, 2022
Hello NL expatriates,

I will start by saying a huge thanks to everyone who reached out to me and extended arms of friendship and companion, God bless you all immensely. I am doing great now, not much has changed but I took your advices and i am much happier now smiley

Sooooo, I have some plans after graduation and one of them is to come back to Nigeria for NYSC. I am not aware of what the process is for diaspora students, but i would love to make arrangements early. Although I have found a great amount of resource on the NYSC website. I am hoping to hear from anyone who has "been there done that".

Thank you smiley

TravelThe Reality of Item Refund Policy... Nigeria Vs Abroad by Childofthelord(op):
Many diaspora folks love to romanticize and gallivant about the return and refund policy they enjoy abroad.
The profound opportunity to return an piece of clothing, mobile device, you name it... at least within 14 - 30 days of purchase.
Retail stores may even increase the refund if the price of the item had depreciated since purchase.
Sounds like heaven on earth. The freedom is unquantifiable....

However, I find it somewhat irrational when some of us wallow about the absence of such policy in Nigeria...
Let's be honest, we Nigerians know ourselves! First off...a Nigerian in Canada has a different orientation, comportment and sense of lawfullness than the average Audu that lives in Yaba. An average Nigerian will beat the traffic light at Oshodi and get away with it, he dares not try such in UK /Canada /US. The law is there! Even Nigerians that purchase items abroad make sure they remain in "just as new" condition before returning.

But here in Nigeria, a seemingly lawless country! such return/refund freedom will be the nightmare of a business/retail merchant.
Nigerians have a possibility of misusing/mishandling a product, test-runing or even depreciating the item in hopes of returning.

It's quite interesting that some stores in Canada have a new policy called "store credit". You can return the item but you will not recieve cash back, what you get is points in value of the item returned, so you can buy anything else within the store, either ways, you money stays with them. Maybe this might work in Nigeria sha, but not the ultimate return/ full refund policy...for herehuh where is that comrade meme lol

You have a destiny that requires you go back to academics in order to achieve this destiny. Let's say you want to be a medical doctor. The drew is telling you, you're not whee you're supposed to be and should go back to academics because a greater destiny than where you are is wait in for you. That future is what's trying to speak to you to reignite the previous passion you had for education that may have been decimated

The vision Is simply reconnecting you with old past memories to spur you to action and has absolutely nothing to do with those friends.
TravelTo Extend Study Permit Or Apply For PR? Advice For New Grad. by Childofthelord(op): 4:22pm On Sep 09, 2021
Hello Diaspora Nairalanders,
A friend of mine would be finishing her undergraduate degree next year, but will be proceeding for her Masters degree. She is currently stuck between applying for PR and continuing as a part-time student, or simply applying for an extended study permit.
Here's what we layed it.
Extend study permit: Full time grad student for 2 years, might wait another 3 years before getting citizenship
Apply for PR: Actively start working, take Masters program part-time for 3-4 years, closer to citizenship eligibility.

Or can she do both? Apply for Extended Study Permit and PR? Does anyone have a friend in immigration office and can offer some advice.
Thank you
Christianity EtcRe: God's Will Vs Heart Desire. Christians Discuss by Childofthelord(f): 11:11am On Aug 09, 2021
You made a point but I think a persons heart desire and Gods agenda for them can coexist in many situations.
OneMarvee:
Isaiah 55:8 explains that God's ways are quite different from ours, further down the new testament, we are encouraged to trust in God and not lean on our own understanding.
But many times we always pray that God grants our wishes and heart desires, we ask for all the thing we can think of. I always wonder, do Christians realize God's plan might be different from our personal agendas? No matter how good or promising they might appear. How many times do we purposefully pray for God's will to be done in our lives?
Now this is not to juxtapose seeking the face of God for something crucial or extremely personal, I am talking in generic terms.
Are we willing to know about God's plan and promises for us as in Jeremiah 29:11? Or we are swallowed by our wants, desires and aspirations?

Where are the Joseph's of Nairaland?
Hi, I occasionally have dreams about my old classmates and friends, sometimes in my old school building, or talking to old friends in new places with me. Mind you, I haven't spoken to most of these people for a long time, like 4 years. Sometimes I stalk them on IG but we lost connection long ago. But I still have vivid dreams of my old friends. Deep down, I wish to reunite with some of them but they have probably forgotten about me sef, but not in my dreams lol.
Does this mean I have not moved on? Any spiritual significance?

I totally agree with Cousin9999. You can gain experience, build on existing skills and make friends while volunteering. If you are a student there's a lot of like-minded groups, sports, clubs and societies in your University that you can join. Put yourself out there and take care of yourself gal!

No, there wouldn't be, you can even change your field of study. I had a friend who initially enrolled for Bsc Microbiology. After 6 months, she decided to switch to nursing and that worked well! plus she needed to extend her study permit with proof of enrollment. That's all.
Tinyemeka:
Won't there be visa issues if one changed courses midway?

Just asking please.
Travel10 Key Tidbits For International Students Heading To Canada by Childofthelord(op):
Here's what I'll tell you:
- Before leaving Nigeria do not bother packing clothes, instead gather raw food items, those are pretty expensive here.
- Ensure you have both student visa(in passport) and TRV(Temporary resident visa).
- There are cheap mobile plans like Fido ($15/month).
- Renting an apartment close to the university is way cheaper especially with roommates.
- Attend career development workshops; they really help with resume, cover letters and various job prospects.
- You are allowed to work 20 hours a week during Fall and Winter. You can work much longer hours in the Summer!
- Do not blow your CAD on new textbooks, you can borrow from the library, talk to existing students and professors, ask about getting older
versions.
- For your courses, if you are facing any challenges, feel free to talk to your academic advisors and professors, you can drop/switch courses.
- Visit the international students' advisors office, attend their parties, make friends!
- Join clubs and societies.

Jara
Always be punctual to class, arrive at the bus station early.
Always verify hear-say from the government official website.
Make friends, connect, volunteer, attend a Zumba class, smile, speak up, ask questions, ask for directions.
Be open minded and be respectful to the LGBTQ members.
Have a budget (body go tell you anyway)
Use google: Search! Be resourceful!

Christianity EtcRe: Do You Support Stand Up Comedy In Church? by Childofthelord(f): 9:22am On Jul 11, 2021

shocked

In Matthew 21:12, Jesus used koboko on people who were doing things other than prayer in the temple.

It goes to show that any comedian who cracks a joke on the pulpit has just got himself a first class ticket to hell.
Would a local chief priest in Ogbomosho entertain a stand-up comedian in his shrine?
Why do we try so hard to add a little "spice" to the things of God then? Like really, why?

BusinessWhy Do Start-ups Spend Huge On Advertisement Instead Of Improving? by Childofthelord(op):
I have noticed that in many new companies or start-ups, usually after brokering a huge deal with investors and being valued at whatmillion dollars, they venture off to spend so much money on advertisements.
Taking a closer look at these companies, one would spot that they often have bad customer service, several issues with the products, and even existing users have a lot of complaints unresolved.
But their ads are everywhere. There is nothing wrong with seeking new customers and trying to get the "word" out there, but at least, fix the burning issues first, let your pre-existing customers speak well of you and that way you will earn a lot of customers through honest referrals.

Any business expert here should shed more light on this. Thank you
Nairaland GeneralWhy The Recent Beef On Instagram Comedians? by Childofthelord(op): 1:17am On Jul 10, 2021
Good-day beautiful people,

Few days ago, I saw an Instagram post highlighting that comedians who cross-dress are milking off the identities and characters of women. The post further challenged those Instagram comedians to attempt making skits without the use of female costumes and wigs.
Personally, I think that post came from a place of unwarranted bitterness.
If you follow a lot of IG comedians, you will be quite aware that both male and female comedians often cross dress, either its Maraji or Zicsaloma or Taooma.
Why so serious then? Why bring gender wars into everything? It is comedy for heaven's sake!

I honestly cannot even fathom the motive behind this lady's Instagram post but all in all lets try to live a little cos wtf.

Peace out.

TravelFinding A Spouse Abroad Vs Going Oversees With Your Nigerian Spouse by Childofthelord(op): 4:48pm On Jul 02, 2021
Yesterday, I read a Q &A post on Quora from a black girl asking why white men do not find her attractive.
I will set the race card aside and talk from my experience.

For ladies: It is not easy to find a spouse here, it no longer depends on your preference, its whose preference are you.
The dating pool is larger and contains many varieties of fishes. My friends do mention that Canadian guys often stare, flirt with their eyes, ask for their name but never engage in a meaningful conversation or even request their phone number. My longest relationship with a white guy was 2 weeks, he just wanted sex. I am currently with a Nigerian guy I met in church and we understand each other. Personally I think Canadian guys just prefer to date their kind.

For men: Easy! You guys just need a pulse lol. Although, I have found that some Nigerian men often make an effort to marry Nigerian women either from their church abroad or coming home to find a wife.

In one sentence, if you have a committed and healthy relationship from home, I would advise you hold on to that. smiley

Which false rumour? Haven't you seen people who have been in the UK legally for 10yrs and yet to become citizens?

You think becoming a citizen in the UK is a walk through process like that of Canada?

Why not try it and see if it will take you 12 months to become one?

Bunmi already has a Bachelorette in Nursing. I think he meant that as a Healthcare professional, she will have better job prospects due to the high demand of nurses in the Uk and therefore has a good possibility of obtaining a PR afterwards. That is quite different from a random Ph.D student. I hope I am not wrong?
