My first software contract I got to build an erp for a company years ago, I had to show them a sample application of what they needed. That sample application I showed, na just play play I use build am throw 4 corner many months before I got the contract.

After presentation, a cheque was written that very day. That was my very first software money and I delivered in less than a month cuz I was excited.

So it depends sometimes you dont need a portfolio, you just need someone to vouch for you to the client or if u've worked in some notable esterblishments. Doors will just open.

Sometimes its a Spirit thing, a client just likes you when you meet & develop trust that you can deliver, it has happened to me times without number, I didnt need to prove anything. This one is a divine / spiritual one, doesnt happen all the time.

Lol dey don't suck o. A former IT company I worked in Lagos hired one naija Uk Senior developer to over see anything development. The man was good to be honest, he studied Computer Science, and I didnt. We had alot of arguments then cuz we disagreed on the way some code should be written.
Am a type of programmer that focus more on simplicity & using less complex, fewer lines of code to solve problems, but he on the other hand becus of his knowledge of CS use a more complex & complicated approach.

The funny thing is I always win at the end cuz when his complex code throws unneccessary bugs, he runs back to my workstation and say "Abeg send me dat your code on Skype" I didnt study a thing about computer science but dat dude held me in high regard till I left dat company, in short in any project he always ask for my opinion even when he codes sumtin, cuz I always see things very differently & beyond scope, in a much simple & less complex way.

So my dear its not about Computer Science, its way beyond it.

Real Computer Wizards or genius didnt go to school to learn Computer Science.

They suck in knowledge from the surroundings and amplify it in a spectacular way.
