Mr Buhari said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Nigeria Mining Week. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President’s speech was delivered by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. According to Mr Buhari, the government has intentionally prioritised the country’s mineral resources over the years as a frontier for economic growth. “This led to the comprehensive Roadmap for the Growth and Development of the Nigerian Mining Sector, and we have steadily followed the steps set out in the roadmap. “So far, we can say without fear of contradiction that this administration has committed more resources to the development of the mining sector than any other government in the history of this country,” he said. He said that the huge investment in the mining sector had yielded positive results over time. “We are proud that the indices of development in the sector are rapidly changing. “Part of these is the increased revenue generation and of course the unprecedented investment interest that the industry has attracted in the past few years. “Nigeria, for the first time, has a world-class gold mine in Segilola, Osun State, operated by Thor Exploration. “Also, Eta Zuma Mining and Industries limited, Mosra Enerji are mining and supplying the coal needs of Dangote and Bua Cement factories. “In steel industry, African Natural Resources and Mines limited, owners of the Kagarko Integrated Steel plant, is about to produce liquid steel from its iron ore mine in Kaduna State,” he said. 2 Likes 2 Shares

The Acting Accountant General came under scrutiny when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Finance to defend the budget of the office on Friday. Unable to provide satisfactory answers to questions raised by lawmakers about the disbursements and utilization of the billions of Naira allegedly raised through the payment platform in the last 10 years, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Olamilakan(APC, Lagos West) ordered full-scale investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the “unremitted” money. The Acting Accountant General had explained that even though his office was in charge of the Remitta payment platform, the office did not receive any amount from the service charge which according to him was shared between the Central Bank of Nigeria, Commercial banks, and the service provider, REMITTA. The explanation did not sit well with the Olamilakan-led Senate Committee which found it “strange” that the Office of the Accountant General received nothing from the billions of money deducted even though the platform belonged to it. The Senate panel subsequently ordered a full probe into the matter and summoned the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Godwin Emefiele, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation as well as the service provider, REMITTA to appear before it unfailingly on the 16th of November, 2022 to give explanations. 3 Likes 3 Shares

Others include Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State. Apparently led by Mr Wike, the group of Governors have called for the replacement of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, with a Southerner. They claim Ayu, a northerner, promised to resign if the PDP ticket goes to a northerner. However, Mr Ayu has indicated he will not step down, at least until after the elections in February. |
