KarlTom: PUMP PRICE HIKE ⛽
David Bird, managing director (MD) of the Dangote Refinery, says the refinery incurs costs from 47 government agencies , adding some form of fees to the final pump price of petrol in the country.
Speaking during the a press conference in Lagos on Monday, Bird said the Federal Government of Nigeria still treats the refinery as the customer of last resort, suggesting that the best crude oil grades are sold to interantional buyers... You see am.. I believe forward contract obligations from NNPC are also why abroad First is priority before DR. |

We should help the Senate and FG to draft the law starting with Steel. Cuz seems that's the next line of Dangote's route Once he successfully breaks that jinx and begins production and exportation, his steel company should be shut down based on the new senate law and to avoid people calling him "monopoly". He should rather canvass for competitors alongside. He should also not go into Power sector. He should massively campaign for competitors who will compete with him before he ventures into any industrialization sector.. The problem is always with the Initiators and risk takers.. He will start controlling g our steel mill and making too much money from selling 24hrs power to Nigerians work 100% coverage to outskirts and hinterlands. What a "Monopoly". It's also his fault that other power companies are handicapped or are did not come into existence with him to compete favourable. How dare Dangote violate the law of the country by offering Nigerians 24hrs supply of light at his chosen price and changing the previous status quo without canvassing for a competitor to compete with Him before embarking on this risky venture!! What a monopolistic tendency!! |

jckgroup1: I have read views and opinions but we all agree that DangRefine is a business and it's all about making money and not to serve/benefit the masses primarily.
I still stand with my view that we need two or more mega refineries, as monopoly has never served/benefitted the masses.
I appreciate the huge contribution of DangRefine to the nation but we need more refineries and even Impoorrters. Free market economy and resultant cheaper alternatives than monopoly. Hence, it may seem that I don't appreciate DangRefine but I don't celebrate monopoly either.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely I think to pacify you and others, Nigerian Senate should enact a law that nobody should venture into a new business in isolation.. If there are not up-to 3 to 5 competing entities and above venturing into any niche and risky unique production venture to help the population. We should rather not have that production in the first place.. All industrialization and production venture halted for lack of competitors. Even when the venture is risky and the "monopolist " isn't guaranteed to succeed, no single person or entity should be given approval and support to undergo what will improve benefit to the nation from the statusquo for the sake of "monopoly" Yes..lets use our hand to stall our growth and industrial development in new areas so that we can pacify the "monopoly" crew. |

mikeapollo: There is no regulation or law that says nobody should build a refinery. So DangRefine is not a monopoly in the real sense. Anybody that can take risk with his/her $5b; $10b; $15b; etc. to build a refinery (inside NUPEG and PENGASSAN wahala) is also welcome.
Many people have failed to build, and when one person struggles to build something, we start calling him a monopoly! How ironic Exactly. It's like focusing on what already exists to the best of his ability when the focus should rather be on what is yet to exist from others.. Portraying what exists as though bad for existing. When initially there was nothing existing and we were complaining. Human wants are insatiable |

Agbalowomeri: But you can't blame Dangote Refinery for monopoly Some other refineries are in the pipeline Until then, make Dangote dey chop him money. There should be a massive reward for "chesting" an uncommon risk He's not even "chopping" from the current chaos as such. He's incurring the expenses on the other side of the balance sheet. Shey if NNPC had enough supply to serve the refineries full capacity, Masses would have felt massive and a total near insulation from the chaos even if Oil reach $200!! |

ghm: Crude poil is booked 3-6 months ahead. It is not that simple/easy to adjust if any unwanted situation arises like the one we see right now. Yes.. Booked ahead if time and isn't easy to adjust. But theres sth called forced majeure on contracts. You can read it up. Saudi, Kuwait and Bahrain all Arab oil producing nations with obligations to deliver to clients but unfortunately can't due to circumstances beyond their control(War) activates forced majure.. As a client, you cant sue them for default. The oil cooperation in those countries are absorbed of any indemnity or liability in the contract should they fail to deliver. |

jckgroup1: Question for you.
What happened to Naira for crude deal? What happened to locally sourced crude or does it come through the straight of Hormuz?
What happened to crude stock? What happened to refined stock? And Reserve if any? Has Nigerians consumed all?
Three or more Dangotes and Nigerians will be alright. Monopoly has never served or benefited the masses. Maybe you do not know the supply to dangote isnt enough. Dangote was patriotic enough to accept Naira for crude deal despite location in a free trade zone. The question is why isn't supply from NNPCL enough for the DR capacity? And yes, he's also a businessman with investors and creditors on his neck. So he also needs to export. Should he loose all the benefit of the free trade zone after all the dredging, sand filling and strategic positioning? He's been magnanimous enough but also he's a businessman. Nothing wrong balancing both worlds the best he could.. Maybe you dont know we're still paying off dollar loans from afre Exim Bank via NNPCL crude and other trade by barter deals since 2021 and 2023. (Forward contracts). If there's a Reserve, that's on GOVT to flood the country with it and not Dangote. Why blame him is the nations reserve in DR custody? strait of Hormuz? Didn't you read previous when Dangote complained of IOCs in Nigeria (Shell, Chevron, mobil, etc) not selling crude directly to him from Nigeria? They prepare to warehouse the crude in their depot overseas and force DR to buy at selling price and also incure shipping cost through strait of Hormuz or other paths to his refinery. Exposing DR to the international chaos. What should DR do, since NNPCL quota from JV isn't enough? Shouldn't FG intervain? The IOCs are also in their right cuz they are here for business also NOT charity. So therefore, i think the bulk of solution lies on FG's table to meditate on behalf of the masses NOT Dangote and DR. You can also enlighten us by answering his questions as well since you probably know sth we don't. |

ositadima1: This is why not every post is worth indulging. Is Dangote Refinery not a business? Or is Nigerian crude being sold below the market price? It is reasonable that if you buy at a high price, you will also sell at a high price, unless there is evidence that Nigeria is still selling crude at around $60.
The only thing we need Dangote Refinery to do is keep producing and prevent scarcity, as long as we are supplying it with crude. Exactly, my point. Non-Scarcity itself is a relief. |

jckgroup1: Monopoly. Dangote no more a saviour of Nigerians and the best thing to happen to our economy. Dangote now a business man Let's be grateful for supply at least. The former scenario would have Queues will ravage fuel stations and workers will be forced to stay at home or walk to office.. Even with subsidy in place, time lags and gap between importation and distribution would cause scarcity, hoarding, this price increase would have been child's play. Also what's the Guarantee NNPCL will see sufficient quantity to buy for the population.. Currently, It's more like an auction/highest bidder out there rather than free open market of choice. Point is, the little benefit we have is that we have availability. 2) if NNPC quota from all their joint venture contracts is enough to supply Dangote's 650,000 barrels capacity ➕ with the naira for crude deal still in place... We may not even have an increase in retail prices.. Worse case just 5-10% jolt. 3) Our external reserves go hear am.... Na negative territory we for dey. |

Sunrisepebble: Key highlights from Lafarge Africa confernce call
* Planned CAPEX spend for the 4.5mtpa extension of current facilities to cost $250 million * Planned timeline for completion is 12 months, to be commissioned by December 2026 * To be financed by internal cash flows * Also, basically confirmed that planned expansion will not affect their drive for returning value to shareholders (Dividends) * Hinted at possibly more expansion after this current one. State that Huaxin views Nigeria as one of its most important markets outside China and is committed to the long-term. Also hinted that export is an avenue they could explore after expansion * The expansion will not affect their debottlenecking initiatives, at least in the meantime, as they work towards unlocking more value at current capacity. State capacity utilisation rate at 66% * Cost optimisation and sustainability initiatives are gaining traction and are already helping the company. Alternative fuel substitution rate at 15%, 500 CNG trucks commissioned. Partnered with LAWMA to convert solid waste to alternative energy at some of their current plants. Although key material inputs, such as gypsum and spare parts, which are imported, remain elevated and face potential supply disruption, their own cost optimisation initiatives will be key to maintaining strong margins amid stable prices * Innovative product offerings were key to volume accretion. Ecocrete and EcoPlanet cement, which use less carbon in production and were introduced in the past year, accounted for 27% of total sales. "partnered with LAWMA"? does Larfarge have a plant in Lagos? |

zendi: And why celebrate women for only 1 day out of 365/6 ?
This is not an argument for gender equality.
Men are clearly superior to women in physical, violent, endurance and leadership roles. You need to see children being raised without a father. But to single out just 1 day of 365 and say it's for women looks unfair insulting and dehumanizing to me.
Better we just celebrate life and entire humanity every day.
I reject for the women in my life the Women's Day whether you call it International or National.

Why is going to church and creating a "Sun-"day" for worship more appropriate than creating a "women's-day"? They should all be done daily without any " special-day" init |
