I decided to watch Cape verde's game today, and i was shocked to see Saudi Arabia playing defensively against them, the commentator kept mentioning how come a team that needs a win is the one defending like they were a goal up. It was very funny, if KSA played with intention to attack today , they most likely wont get a draw but a loss.

Iran has pushed Algeria out of contention of best 3rd placed teams with their draw to Egypt. More teams with 3 points will get pushed out after the last group stage matches, not looking good for South Korea. All the best Senegal🤞🏽

Current numbers 6-8 will be pushed out and replaced almost surely after 3 games later today. The only assured ones are number 1 to 5. I am rooting for Algeria and DRC to make the next round. which will imply 9 out of 10 african teams made it to the next round. DRC vs Uzbekistan and Algeria vs Austria . Algeria vs Austria do have history from the 1982 world cup. That game was what forced FIFA to ensure the 3rd/last games in a group are played simultaneously as Austria purposely played a draw with W/germany to force Algeria out of that world cup.

Sure, 2 new results after my comment gave them the edge. Cape verde vs KSA draw & Egypt vs Iran draw. An Egypt loss would have kept Senegal waiting on the sideline for qualification. I was worried for Senegal when Iran scored an assumed "winner" at the injury time, but thanks to VAR.

Yes, they have an improved chance now with that result, as Senegal is now better with points and goal difference than the 3rd place of 3 completed groups. It is not guaranteed yet as they have to be better than four 3rd place teams, but it is closer, they need one more result in their favor.

Cape verde is in the knockout stage as debutants without losing any game. Panama is a solid team, even played better than Ghana in the first game, but unlucky to get a result in that game. Names will not be enough going forward to guarantee performance at the world cup..

Senegal does have a chance, but it is not uhuru yet, it seems some of the analysis fail to consider current 1st, 2nd or 3rd or 4th place teams yet to play their last match can still be 3rd.

Accounting for only currently 3rd place teams at this time means the analysis is not accounting for that possibility. At this time, the best spot on 3rd place best loosers they can have is 5th place, which will surely get worse when other 3rd games are played.

I am hopeful it doesn't get worse than a 8th place 3rd best for them. Germany losing to Ecuador yesterday was what severely reduced their chances in my opinion. I would have said they will almost surely(95% chance) make at least the 8th spot of the 3rd best loosers, but at this point, they have a 45% chance by my estimate.

Well, the 4 trillion debt was acutally government cutting it from 6 trillion. And that is just what the government owes in terms of subsidy, there are other debts owed the power companies.

Plus it won't attract investments. Investors want to see ROI and the only way to do that is by...allowing cost reflective tarrifs, not by doing price controls and subsidies that do not get paid on time.

PLus subsides only cover the difference between the cost of production and the government set price. It doesn't allow for the companies to make a profit.

The band A is actually a government response to reduce subsidy on power. That is why democracy is different from military government. I reckon a very intelligent and benevolent dictator will get a lot done with the will power in a very fundamentally flawed country like Nigeria. There are too many "right" things that can't just be implemented, sometimes politicians leave it till when they are not seeking further elective position or when they sense massive popularity. A successful coup against the current president will be seen as victory for many Nigerians, not because he is doing the wrong things, but they only see it from the perspective of "the qualIty and quantity of food in their mouth NOW" . Even most of the security issues in Nigeria is centric on terrible socio religious practices in the core north. I was "privileged" to serve in the north when boko haram was yet to exist, and i knew that it was only a matter of time those almajiris will revolt, it was tale of wickedness covered with culture and religion, as dead bodies are usually seen during harmattan seasons of kids who did not beg to come to life. Almajiri should not survive 3 months in a very "sane" situation, that 3 months is to build large roof over the heads of those kids who are the bandits of today. Nomadic cattle rearing will not survive a day in an ideal situation.

Governance is not a man holding a djinee, the closest to that is a military government, even a military govt. is still afraid of losing support of its ruling council. Nigeria had failed military dictators in the past, so i can not recommend it. Tinubu and obi never/have not told Nigerians how they intend to improve power supply.


The truth of the matter is, we have a plan, laid out by the experts, about power supply. A decent , strong plan....cost reflective tarrifs, ending power theft, and rolling out metering.

But neither tinubu nor obi, nor even atiku or any potential candidate would mention that because it does not win votes. (Sowore would probably announce a plan to give 24 hour light a day at N1 per kwh).


Nigerians , regardless of political party, like hearing populist language. If a leader came into office and started doing the things the experts have said we should do, he would be voted out. Or chased out. You will see the Fulani herdsmen marching with the Igbo farmer, the Yoruba trader marching with his Hausa counterpart, and there would be riots.


And the leader would be voted out.

That is why whoever takes office, won't be allowed to improve power because Nigerians think that electricity should be free of charge.

When in reality, it is not possible.

Electricity costs money. If you won;t pay for it in cost reflective tarrif, you will pay for it in generator and inverter monies. That is what Band A taught us.

And on that Band A, the idea of tinubu was not original. India has a similar system, present for decades, that commercial and industrial properties would pay a cost reflective tarrif and the profits would be used to pay for subsidising the poor farmers and rural people

And after doing that, has power supply in India improved? (No.).

Infact India is planning to make everyone pay cost reflective tarrfs in five years time.


SO, if it didn't work in India, how e go work in NIgeria?

The only way we can get free power is to take massive loans totalling nearly 2/3rd of our budgets for the next ten or more years...and while it may give us enough light, it would also put us in heavy debt for it.

I expcet to be abused and to be told about other countries that somehow magically give free power(the macs won't add that those countries pay for it with heavy taxes, or heavy debt).

Theory is different from practical. If a Physician decides to administer plethora of required drugs all at once to a patient , that patient may enter shock and die. Is that what you want? Nigeria went to deep shock with the oil subsidy removal, and gradually settling down with the aftermath and recovery and election approaching you want Tinubu to remove subsidy on power now? Buhari was afraid of a coup and could not remove oil subsidy until June 2023 when he will be away. Wisdom is profitable to direct. i will recommend the Government settle the over 4 thrillion naira debt and counting. Some battles be left till the second term. If many kids are ask to vote their parents, they will vote them out for the parent not allowing them to eat unlimited candies and junk foods but veggies and balance diet and also forcing them to sleep early afterall the parent is not sleeping early.

I believe he is under a curse. 2023 was his best chance but he blew it. If he had wike and the other 4 governors in his fold. (the G5 governors), he would have lost way less votes in the North than what he loss in the south. A wike as vice would have forced the election to a 2 way rerun with Tinubu at worst and a very likely win for him in such circumstance.

He lost not only those 5 states additional votes to his camp, but some other southern states. He only needed to close the gap of loss in the SE /Ss/SW. Even Adeleke delivered for him in Osun state. It was way easier to avoid losing Wike than Obi in 2023 polls.

Anyone that is stubborn and unintelligent to play such easy politics suggest to me he will also fail with policies . Such individual will not play the politics needed to get his policies to be passed at the national assembly.

APC has won all bye elections all across Nigeria that are released so far, whether in the south or North. The next few months will be more criess from the opposition who are united to take us backward, they have promised Nigerians candies instead of food, claiming they are undernourished.

When they carry this one imitating bandit, he will say it is content creation.

It is not by mouth to restructure. Huffing and puffing wont turn to restructure, it takes courage, mobilisation, maneuvering and tactics to get things done. We are not in a military system anylonger.

There are almost certainly a greater number of people who wants to keep the status quo than those who wants restructuring at the national assembly, if you like scream APC, it crosses and beyond party blame or sentiments. Anyone still hung up about party is still confused, naive or pretentious.

No saviour will provide you cheap fuel, and the security architecture of the country is faulty, where governors can not even give martching orders to a state commisioner of police. If you think one messiah president will easily nip in the bud a bandit attack in kutuwenji, you are deceiving yourself with the way the core North is currently structured. You have a man in 3 years pushing state police that will push more powers away from the centre and improve security. Most Nigerian presidents can not see it off, because it takes a lot of political dexterity. Many of you just look, you can't see. Everything is not bread and groundnut. You people think like kids that believe who ever gives them candy is the best person in the world , even though na kidnapper.

Yes, I support Obi and proudly so. At the same time, that hasn't blinded me from seeing and acknowledging positive steps the Tinubu government has undertaken. Let me get to the point.

The truth is a burden and can be uncomfortable to read or hear. But that inconvenience doesn't stop it being the truth. Was Tinubu right about subsidy removal? Could he have gone about it in a different, less hurtful way? I'll answer that shortly.

Nigeria would have collapsed if Tinubu hadn't stopped subsidy payments when he did. Every president before him, had toyed with the idea or even attempted some measure of subsidy removal. Subsidy payments was the elephant in the room of every economic policy meeting the NEC was having. But it was the holy grail few dared actually face head-on.

At a point, Nigeria's subsidy payments were exceeding its earnings. Nigeria was borrowing not for development but to offset subsidy claims. Claims that for the most part, were unverifiable. The country was shouldering fuel costs of a good number of neighbouring African countries. There was no way that was sustainable short or long term.

The argument can be made that Nigeria's present economic crisis can actually be tied to years of subsidy payments. The country was living on debt and borrowing from the future. That future is today and the cheque has come due. Nigeria borrowed so much for subsidy payments that these debt obligations and servicing costs still take huge chunks of our earnings. It doesn't help also, that future crude production was the collateral used to secure these loans. We must also take notice that a healthy portion of Nigeria's debt profile is debt incurred by the various states but that's a topic for another day.

If Tinubu hadn't stopped subsidy payments, Nigeria would have probably experienced a similar situation Greece and Argentina faced a few years back. But we aren't entirely out of the woods yet I must say.

Some have argued that Tinubu was wrong for channeling the freed funds accruing from subsidy payments to state governments. On the face of it, that appears to be a legit argument but here's a key overlooked detail. Every money that hits the federation account must be disbursed according to the distribution formula set by the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Committee (RMFAC). There is an enabling law backing this and the president would be remiss act otherwise.

In simple terms, no. Tinubu on his own cannot decide how the money canceling subsidy payments has brought, gets shared.

That said, he does his government no good by not putting pressure on the senate to investigate the NNPC and get to the root of how 210 trillion naira cannot be accounted for. Money doesn't just fly. Accountants know that every money has a trace and a trail. In who's interest is the Nigerian senate refusing to investigate this matter.

The country cannot be embarking on a borrowing galore when its chief earner, the NNPC, cannot account for over 30 billion dollars.

I welcome nuanced, well reasoned and fact based arguements. Thank you for reading.

Who ever stated 210 trillion naira was missing should at least provide proof, means and how it was missing. This is a familiar style of simply dishing out figures of missing fund like associated criminals in the national assembly with no clear cut proof. That is over 4 years worth of national budget in whose hands? which local and foreign accounts are these funds shipped?
I am not carried away by many of the semi illiterates in the national assembly who are also criminals masquerading to be working hard.

how much barrels of oil did Nigeria produce yearly? In the last 10 years, Nigeria total crude oil production is less than 5 thrillion barrels, it takes someone living in fool paradise to declare missing 210 trillion naira.

There was no 3rd best looser at the 1998 world cup. It was the beginning of 32 participating teams, just as 2026 WC is the beginning of 48 participating teams.
