The last time Uk invited any Nigerian leader for a state visit was 1989.

He is lucky to be alive, i will not advise anyone to try that in the circumstances i saw there. I feel they did not want to kill in the operation. It was clearly a 2 or 3 gang of armed thieves against him. It could easily have gone the other way and he could have paid with his lives.

Also, in this age of transfer, there should be less need to move with large cash.

If i have my way, i will close down some of these stations by NTA that have served their purpose. Workers will be sent home and paid 60% salaries for 2 years in addition to gratuities. FG should focus on regional transmission stations , and the 6 NTA regional station is enough. Each state governmnt have their own stations, which is sufficient and we are gradually seeing the dearth of these TV and print media anyways. Is like when most Nigerians hear trillions in budget, they imagine that Nigeria has 500 billion dollars to spend. Nigerias annual budget is like that of a small state in US. South Africa's 2026 national budget is 150 billion USD, Nigerias budget is about 35 billion USD. Now on the reason why I am apprehensive about state governors getting funds from FG- i know it is constitutional and FG is doing their part by releasing funds but why I do not particularly like it is because most of, if not all our governors lack accountability and Nigerians do not even know how to demand accountability from their respective governors rather we shout and blame FG for anything that goes wrong even the ones that is clearly the responsibility of the state governors.

What I would have wished for is the FG set up policies or a body(neutral) whose main purpose is to track funds released to state governors and ensure accountability- yes that is the EFCC's job but an agency dedicated solely to this will yield better result.

There is ICPC, EFCC.,..... how many more do you want Tinubu to set up to track governor's corruption? The attorney general of federation took all governors to court , so they take off their hands from local government funds; that is a more purposeful effort. When you make submissions, ensure it is practical and progressive. Nigerians must demand accountability, i agree with you on that, and put pressure on not just governors, but local government chairpersons, councilors, legislators, judiciary and even the president. There will not always be common interest, but we must strive for common good.

Hello Nairalanders, I need sincere advice about my relationship because I am getting confused and emotionally tired.

I have been in a relationship with a lady (let me call her Fumilayo) and we are planning our Introduction ceremony in about two months. However, some issues have been bothering me and I need honest opinions.

1. Her Attitude

Sometimes I feel like she is pretending about her personality. She often raises her voice at me and sometimes yells whenever I point out something she did that I don’t like. Instead of discussing issues calmly, it usually turns into an argument.

2. Money Issues

Most of our disagreements are about money. She believes I should be giving her regular financial support like monthly upkeep, but I feel pressured.

Sometimes I feel she is with me mainly because I have a stable job and that she wants to use me to achieve her business goals and maybe leave later. I may be wrong, but this fear is in my mind.

Background

When we met, I was doing my Master's degree and also attending banking school at the same time. She was in Egypt hustling then.

We were dating and she knew I was doing my Master's, but I didn’t tell her about banking school then.

After I finished banking school, I was posted to Head Office instead of a branch. I became a product manager handling a banking product after finishing my Master's.

When she returned from Egypt and visited me in Lagos, that was when she discovered that I was working at the Head Office. Before then, she had been worried about me getting a job after my Master's and I kept telling her God would provide.

Her own plan is to open a hairstyling business in Lagos.

Lifestyle Differences

Another issue is spending habits.

She likes expensive things and believes cheap things have no value because they spoil quickly. She doesn’t like trekking and prefers taking a bike even for short distances.

The truth is that both of us did not come from wealthy families. I usually advise that we should reduce spending and focus on building wealth together, but she doesn’t always agree.

The Main Problem – Introduction Planning

We are planning our Introduction ceremony in about two months.

My plan was to save:

₦170k first month for clothes
₦170k second month for logistics and introduction items for her family in Ibadan

But during the first month, unexpected bills came:
Transportation
Feeding and food stocking
My sister became seriously sick and I had to send emergency money home
Support for my parents
Electricity and waste bills
House maintenance
Investments and small savings (₦35k)

Because of all these, I could not provide the ₦170k as planned.

The amount I could afford at that time was ₦76k for her to manage.

The Introduction is supposed to be a simple living-room ceremony, not something big. I even suggested wearing a white native attire I already have so we can focus more on the wedding later.

But she became angry and said ₦76k is too small and asked what it can do.

My Concern

I am getting tired of constant arguments and pressure.

I know I am not perfect and I have my weaknesses, but I am trying my best.

Sometimes I wonder:
Am I being unfair?
Is she being unreasonable?
Are these signs I should reconsider this marriage?

Please Nairalanders, I need honest advice.

Number 2 is worse and amplifies number 1 in marriage. Soon, money issues will bring out worst attitude in her. How a lady manages money is like the litmus test in deciding if you should go forward. Pause and reflect. 80% of marriage issues have a root cause linked to money disagreement

Why celebrate what you should be 100% sure?

It is like celebrating a confirmation of your identity.

I mentioned no european country, you formed that in your head. Ghana is over 15%, Benin republic is 18%, Cameroon is 19.25%. Nigeria is 7.5%.

As Nigerians, we always believe we have it worst and keep that energy till we move to the eldorado country we imagine on our head and then resume complaining when we relocate there. For some, they are ashamed to start complaining, but will not come out to mention they thought wrong.

To put things in to context for you. Ghanians pay on the average over 40% more what you pay to buy a car, and even household groceries, there are several videos to that effect online.

This is largely true. We are no longer in 1950's. Our parents live up to 70's to 90's now and their inheritance largely managed by them. In this century, your education and exposure largely provided by parents is your launching pad. The same way i detest entitlement mentality in parents is similar to how i detest it in children. It is a bonus if they provide physical inheritance .

Congratulations to a candidate, because they won in a single polling unit. It is this ignorance that affect some genuine but naive voters that think their candidate was rigged out. Results are won based on aggregation of all polling units votes. Candidates also have strong support base. I bet the narrative of this fellow saying congratulations if his candidate lose is that he was rigged afterall he won in a landslide at my polling unit.

increase in income does not imply stagnation of expenses. I believe that is commonsense. The national assembly has their work cut out with the budget they pass. Planning on 2 million barrels per day and usd at 1500 naira for 2025 budget suggest the projected income from the biggest earner is unrealistic, and allocations to MDAs will surely suffer. When those MDAs directors and perm. Secs come to defend at the NA with inflated and bogus capital projects to steal, they should be rebuffed.

i am not sure what you mean by honest and real money in large scheme of things. 50k is a lot of money, and there is a reason an account was flagged for a transfer of 10k-30kcad. 50kcad/usd is about the down deposit of buying a 750k house, most can not save that easily, it takes 2-10years of rigorous saving for most people, maybe 1-5years for a couple. Using your analogy this is not true, it does not get sent. It never gets sent if there is no network on the system. It only gets sent, but not delivered, if the network issue is on the receiving end and not on the senders end. I believe INEC will use electronic transmission, but there are lots of legal loopholes with MANDATORY electronic transmission if network fails. I think there should be a test in a state governorship bye election and INEC can hire hackers to simulate possibilities to test vulnerabilities of the system. One of the biggest concern with 2023 presidential election was the delay in uploading election result to bvas.

Elections in Nigeria are sensitive processes and must be handled with care as Nigeria is never short of saboteurs. During the cash crisis, Many Nigerians could not send money using mobile apps to ensure delivery, which was the main reason why the cash scarcity became a worse situation than it should be and caused violence and deaths, as people had money in the bank accounts , but coud not send it. We need avoid a situation people voted enmasse and votes are voided because it is said to be untransmitted as required by law.

i get your point and agree with most of it, however i feel the real hard work is now moving in to the hands of Artificial intelligence, not to rain on your parade as a radiographer, basic equipment handling begins to look like what a 6 months diploma nursing assistant / radiographer assistant can do. I concede that it is possible i am not looking at it holistically enough.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The job of a radiographer is not to interprete, but rather to acquire medical images. AI has no effect on radigraphy.

Someone has to prepare patient, put them in the appropriate clothing, position them for the imaging procedure, take the necessary radiation protection measures and acquire the image. Physical interaction with the patient is needed, so radiography is pretty safe.

I studied radiography in for my Bachelors, practiced a bit, then acquired more training and moved to another field. But I will not discourage anyone from studying the course.

AI is taking over that course. With artificial intelligence using pattern recognition, i will not recommend anyone studying that course now, except radiography technicians to fix the equipment.


Many people are still underestimating the coming tsunami effect of AI on careers/jobs in the next 5-10 years. It will do a better job than any human radiographer. if you doubt, upload your xray for analysis on chat gpt 5.2, a basic AI and see how well it will analyse and tell you the result.

It doesn't work this way , you can't just equate 500 usd to 500 naira. The minimum wagein US is about 2000usd monthly, is the minimum wage in Nigeria, 2000 naira? There is a higher chance the US minimum wage guy will sleep on the streets homeless than the Nigerian minimum wage counterpart. When i see statements like yours i know you most likely have never left the shores of Nigeria. Many are arguing with someone who left Nigeria at some point and lived in the western world to come back. I recommend leaving Nigeria for "greener pastures"on the right visa to an average struggling youth, but understand and manage your expectation so you don't feel disappointed and get confused when you arrive the supposed Eldorado.
