Any sane person with a sense of law and order, knows Umahi and his Deputy don't have a case
Umahi may have a case based on a plethora of cases already decided. However, I agree with you on that first statement that whoever crosscarpets invalidates a certificate of return. This should be the law and I think morality backs it.
Business / Lagos: The Center Of Business Decapitation by chinedu234(m): 12:47pm On Mar 10, 2022
Lagos state prides itself as the center of excellence in Nigeria. The state has reasonably improved it's revenue through activation of latent potentials deposited by the former federal government capital status. However, the state seems to have lost some direction in the current revenue drive with the attendant negative impacts. Lagos in it's current traffic laws barred trailers from plying it's roads in the day time. They are allowed in only at night. The economic impact of this rule is that a truck of such dimension coming from Aba or Kano will wait possibly at Sagamu or Mowe till night to make an entry as far as it is still day. Entry at night means the truck may be offloaded the next day. If this truck is going to another location for reloading this will await the next night.(day2). If the vehicle is loaded on the second day the driver must wait for the third night to be able to leave Lagos. This is how it takes 72 hours to achieve what would have been achieved in about twenty four hours in Lagos economy. A multiplier effect based on the number of such trucks coming into Lagos for business can only be calculated on verifiable data. This may be hundreds of trucks. Most unfortunately, states like Abia and Imo have adopted this Lagos style. The attendant question being if these state administrators understand the economic implications of what they are doing? Another horrific dimension to this rule is that these administrators set up thugs and miscreants who stay up all night to harrass and extort monies from the truck owners and drivers. Is this the route to Nigeria's economic emancipation? Time will tell.

This may sound like an overstretched lamentation. The killing of an innocent lady who after a full day hardwork diligently sought out a government transport line BRT supposedly secured for a trip to her abode for a well deserved rest. What did she get? Slaughtered by some animals in human uniform for probably money ritual. How did Nigeria get to this point? How did Lagos state graduate to this degree? Is it far from the instances below? 1. An artisan that could not make any meaningful contribution to society and self becomes stupendously rich in three months after becoming a councillor. 2. A look at the constituency offices of members of state and national assembly where nothing but pride and arrogance are displayed. Do we talk about their vehicles and homes where opulence are demonstrated as the normal lifestyle. 3. What about people who never had thriving businesses and became richer than the states they governed with its attendant demonic display of wealth and power? Are we forgetting that these are the so called leaders of the society that shape the views and ambitions of the youth and upstarts? These young ones have seen how the above mentioned examples after raping and looting the society are surrounded with and by state security apparatus. And we think these young ones will not draw on the lower hanging apples for their own perceived ride to opulence. Are we not jokers? Not until the above cited instances are dealt with will Lagos state and Nigeria be on the required path towards moral emancipation.

Crime / Abba Kyari: A Good Product Of Lagos State by chinedu234(m): 1:34pm On Feb 22, 2022
Recent news that is not about the once pronounced super cop of Nigeria Dcp Abba Kyari may not get the necessary traction. So we delve into a realm that has not been explored on this saga. We have realized that Mr Kyari served in the lagos command of the Nigerian police for a long period of time and in various capacities. What we have not averred our minds to are the necessary skills and mindset he developed while in service in Lagos. Let us summarize a few of the events that may have resulted in the present activities of our super cop.
1. Abba witnessed how a sitting democratically elected governor using the resources of government set up a process that resulted in huge spin around of the internally generated revenue of state. But instead of allowing the state internal revenue service to continue with the work surreptitiously set up a white elephant company to superintend activities of the LIRS while getting a lion share of the revenues. 2. Our brother Abba witnessed how a state government promulgated a law barring anti corruption agencies and the public from investigation and indictment of the governor on any financial malfeasance. Interestingly, some of the actors are currently applauded national politicians and presidential position holders. 3. Mr Kyari saw how touts and street hooligans became overnight billionaires by harrassments, killings, intimidating and stealing all sorts of monies from motorists all over the state and the laws go cold because returns are made to the right quarters. 4. Abba would have known when news had it that a Lagos governor dug a normal water borehole for one hundred million naira in the state and the information amounted to nothing. 5. What about our former anti corruption czar Mallam Nuhu Ribadu that held us captivated about how the then Lagos state governor was among the top three most corrupt politicians that were to be arraigned after immunity left them. We, including Abba saw the court drama which bordered on technicality by a certain professor that is also an SAN. And vooom! Case gone. Our brother saw promulgation of anti society laws that emboldened offices like vis and lastma and made them money spinners both for individuals and state. Should Nigerians be surprised where Abba Kyari is coming from? The only problem Abba may have is that his machinery was not able to promulgate the necessary laws for his protection. And that is the difference. A society of categorized laws and enforcements. A system where impunity is rewarded with filthy wealth and bloody political power. A highway that leads nowhere. This is the center of...

Politics / Lagos VIS Law: A Threat To Nigeria Federation by chinedu234(m): 5:47pm On Feb 13, 2022
Lagos radio Nigeria info 99.3 had a chat with Mr Fashola who was introduced as the head of the lagos vehicle inspection service. He amongst other issues outlined how the new law of the state concerning issuance of motor road worthiness certificate. He emphasized that any vehicle captured in Lagos without a Lagos issued roadworthiness certificate will be fined. This sounds preposterous, illegal and unconstitutional. We know that thousands of motorists come into Lagos for various reasons. Does this mean that they have to carry multiple roadworthiness certificates depending on the number of states they pass through to go to Lagos? What will it be like for any motorist in Lagos to carry multiple roadworthiness certificates because you have to pass through Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Imo and Abia states to get to Rivers state. Why will Lagos state insist on its own certificate when it is called a national roadworthiness certificate? How did Lagos get to this level of desperation to raise internally generated revenue? Is this just as a result of enjoying the near monopoly of Nigeria's seaports? What types of human beings gathered to make such a law for a state under the federation? They probably think that they are beyond the effects of this fraud. However, time will soon prove otherwise as their terms in the legislative assembly is fixed and all the present aloofness will end. How can one explain that a vehicle that just returned to Lagos from Imo state and took a roadworthiness certificate at Edo because the previous certificate expired at that point has been fined in Lagos for not yet taking a certificate from Lagos? So many stories abound on this illegality and the state think it is smiling to the bank with IGR. Does common sense not reveal that this is a good reason the state facilities will be easy targets at the slightest chance. Endsars experience should remain a significant lesson that when the state violently defrauds the people, there can always be consequences. Lagos state as a matter of urgency should abrogate this VIS law that Mr Fashola claims to be in existence.

It was a bit surprising this morning hearing a popular current affairs analyst on Lagos radio 98.1fm say that the current APC administration conceived and birthed the school feeding programme in Nigeria. This may be due to the perfect propaganda machinery of the ruling party. However for the avoidance of doubts, interested individuals should look up the school feeding initiative of world food programme (WFP) and the launching of a UNICEF supported school feeding programme of 2005 in Abuja, Nigeria. The objective of this intervention is to help appropriate facts as they should be.
Politics / Is It All About Fake News Alhaji Lai Mohammed? by chinedu234(m): 8:42pm On Jan 30, 2022
Nigeria's information minister Alhaji Lai Mohammed was just in Egypt where he met with a group of Nigerians living in the country. Minister Mohammed told his audience that most of the news they hear from Nigeria are fake news. One wonders how Alhaji Lai Mohammed conducted the statistics that brought him to the conclusion that most news going abroad from Nigeria are fake. The minister went ahead to say that Nigerians back home are living in peace and unity. What I don't know is if Mr minister is aware that this weekend a community in niger state was sacked and some persons killed in a bandits attack. I want to be sure or put the challenge to the minister to travel between Abuja and Kaduna for one week even with his convoy to establish the peace and unity in Nigeria. Better still let the honourable minister travel to imo state or any other south eastern state next Monday to establish the beautiful peace and unity that exists in his Nigeria. I think Mr Minister's penchant to announce any information he perceives against his party as fake is unbecoming. My people say that any person that does not say his sickness, the sickness will take care of him. You don't have cancer and pretend that you have a boil. This may be the problem of the current federal government administration. Let the minister know that the cancer of insecurity and disunity are killing Nigeria. If they can not tackle it as already evident then a referral is required.

Politics / Abuja Rice Pyramids: Political Or Economic Propaganda. by chinedu234(m): 3:26pm On Jan 19, 2022
Oxford Lerner's dictionary defines propaganda as ideas or statements that may be false or exaggerated and that are used in order to gain support for a political leader. Here we seek to explain how the Abuja Rice Pyramids fit in. (1) The one million bags of rice claimed to be in the pyramids may not feed the estimated twenty one million people in Lagos state for one week. The question for the federal government and especially Mr Emefiele is where they are going to get their extra quantity for export? (2) The CBN governor said that their rice intervention loans has hit one trillion naira but didn't say how much of that loan that has been paid back. And if what the assistant president of the rice farmers association said on Arise tv on 19/1/22 is to be relied on then the estimated value of the one million bags of rice is what may have been paid back for a percentage of the loans. This may be somewhere about twenty four billion naira. So CBN will still explain where nine hundred and seventy six billion naira is sitting in various farms. We are aware that there could be other harvests and pyramids and the question is where are they? Do we have stock in the various silos located around the country and can they be opened for public examination? (3) What was the cost of putting up and dismantling the pyramids? Who awarded the contract and to whom? This is very important because putting up pyramids of one million bags of rice and dismantling same just for a ceremony of thirty minutes seems unbecoming for a country that has probably over eighty percent of it's population behind poverty line. The wastage on this public show may have made a difference in the lives of at least ten thousand citizens. The final question here is why is the CBN directly on this project? Where are the relevant ministries and departments. Is it all about flattery and sycophancy? Maybe somebody needs to consult the Bible for some instructions on what such tendencies bring upon humans and their cities.

Politics / The Major Pitfall To Avoid In 2023 by chinedu234(m): 1:39pm On Jan 15, 2022
Nigerians have come a long way since the rebirth of democracy in 1999. Political arguments and discussions have been hinged on provision of amenities like roads, electricity, health care etc. The portion taken by tribe and rotation has been phenomenal. However, the worst development happened prior 2015 when a group of men and women thought to know and have solutions engaged in lavish criticism of the past in what today is known to be a recklessly ignorant fashion. And we have also seen that their ignorance was rendered in such a pompous manner that we were cajoled into what ordinary rationality would have made us avoid. Therefore, as we look towards 2023 I will look out to decipher those who engage rationally and clearly against those that will build castles in the air.

Unfortunately, this practice is perpetuated by improperly identified hoodlums at various street corners where they lurk to capture their victims. This practice is all over the major commercial cities in Nigeria and we have a government that mouths ease of doing business. Our question is if ease of doing business ends with registering a business in 24 hours for#5,000 but can never take off? We spent#15,000 today for one truck on the seventh basket and the irrelevant papers.
In an interesting development, my attention was called to a certificate titled stage carriage permit belonging to Lagos state ministry of transportation. All trucks despite the size are billed #8,000 for this worthless certificate.

Politics / Re: Arrest Of Security Guards: Failure Of Lagos State Government. by chinedu234(m): 1:29pm On Jan 04, 2022
Plantiff:
Apartheid has no better meaning than a group of Nigerians building walls and gates to segregate those of low social status by preventing them from passing through residential roads.

Let's face it, that was the practice in pre-1995 South Africa where a native South African needed a special invitation or permission of a Dutch or English South African to access certain parts of their own communities. There are so many similarities between the Southern and Western African apartheid systems because those who segregate have uninterrupted power supply, constant water supply and other basics of life that are luxury for those they segregate.

Excuses may be made for the defunct South African constitution which omitted details of free movement but enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria 1999, the grundnorm of our democracy, is the fundamental right to freedom of movement anywhere in Nigeria.

Distinction must be made between a private property and a public property. No matter the unanimous decision and decree of all real property owners living in a location to foster security of their lives and properties, a pathway for driving or pedestrian use is not a private property and is free for use by everyone by virtue of their citizenship or residency in Nigeria.

That Nigerians, most of whom live below the global poverty line cry, genuinely belief that the order of residents of an estate to prevent free movement is normal and superior to the constitution and other legislations is thought-provoking.

Seun, Lalasticlala, Mynd44, this thread needs a wider audience please.

This is quite deep and thought provoking. I never saw the apartheid dimensions to the practice. And the docile nature of the hungry average lagosian has become the benchmark for perpetuation of evil.
Politics / Arrest Of Security Guards: Failure Of Lagos State Government. by chinedu234(m): 9:57pm On Jan 03, 2022
The story of how the current commissioner of police for Lagos state Hakeem Odumosu was denied entry and thereafter ordered the arrest of an estate security guards have been told from many perspectives. What many people don't seem to know is that the act of establishing gates and barriers on public highways is not only illegal but also unconstitutional. Recently, a number of men of good conscience petitioned and fought against this illegality to the point that the Lagos state ministry of transportation issued a half hearted statement calling for the dismantling of such gates. However, not a single attempt was made at enforcement. On the excuse of security as the reason for such barricades in so called estates, what if everyone behaves like these delusional fellows and all streets in Lagos are barricaded? Can people move around anymore? Is Lagos state government waiting for such a situation before realizing that illegalities can not cure any situation? It's not like this situation is novel as the administration of Babatunde Fashola pulled down all such barricades during his tenure. What is the problem with the Sanwolu administration? Is it about desperation to be a nice guy and everyone's friend? Is it really about not having an alternative security policy for the state? Now the chief enforcer of law in Lagos state has come face to face with this illegality and I will advocate that the matter be properly investigated while the guards and their employees be made to face the law. This will be a first step towards curing the malaise that a lot of egoists who have created fiefdoms in the name of estates in Lagos.

Crime / Are Nigerians Terrorists? My Perspectives. by chinedu234(m): 3:22pm On Dec 16, 2021
I remember clearly the statements of the then information minister. The ebullient, sagacious and highly patriotic Dora Akunyili. She said Nigerians are not terrorists. According to her it is not in our blood. This was said just after the first major link of international terrorism to Nigeria via the underwear bomber Abdulmutalab. Dr Akunyili then argued that our people were so good that terrorism couldn't be associated with them and she started a campaign of good people, great nation. Hmm. However I want to explore a little more. Sometimes in early 2000s as a young sales manager I was accosted by some Ade odo ota LGA men on Lagos Abeokuta express way and accused of changing road lanes. They jumped into my vehicle to take me to their office for what they termed cautioning. It was in the process of dragging the vehicle wheels that I beckoned on a police patrol van and the hoodlums disappeared. Hmm. Can this act amount to terrorism? This is not different from what government traffic agencies in various states of Nigeria engage in. I know because I run business in so many states. And I ask again. Is that terrorism? What about government revenue officials who go about intimidating businesses on the streets with all manner of levies without receipts. Even a visit to their offices changes nothing. Is that terrorism? Do we talk about governors and local council executives who condone killings in the name of motor park politics and eventually come out with the villains as political collaborators. Are such killings not state sponsored? Is there terrorism there? Let me look at the activities of the so called okada people and recently danfo drivers. If you have recently encountered any of these groups in an accident then you may understand whether there is an element of terrorism in their acts or not. Nigeria news recently is filled with activities of bandits, iswap, boko Haram, unknown gunmen. These are the official terrorists today. What about the others? I really wonder if our dear Dora was alive and witnessed the gruesome killing of her own husband. What would she have said? The scenerio above in no way encompasses the frightful developments in the great nation of good people. You may certainly have more. This is just to raise the issue and ask are Nigerians terrorists?

Religion / Experience 16: Religious Or Political Carnival? by chinedu234(m): 2:50pm On Dec 05, 2021
I have for years now followed Experience as conducted by Pastor Paul Adefarasin and the House on the Rock cathedral. It signifies to me the beginning of the Christmas season. I also look forward and get some good doses of beautiful christian music. I can not forget the show of 2012 and my attachment to artists like Frank Edwards, Lara George, Don Moen and comedians like Chi Girl and Akpororo. I wondered how it was that comedy blended with the mood of worship. However I thought it worked and I have followed other editions till date. Let me say that one thing I didn't and may still not understand is the introduction of personalities during the event. A pointer is the Lagos state commissioner's speech and the booing that followed. I watched as Pastor Adefarasin cautioned the congregation and apologized to the Lagos state government on their behalf. He reminded the people of their duty to pray for their leaders and the possession of weapons of violence by government. In other words the people should be afraid of the leaders. I hereby observe as follows:1) If there was no special invitation to political leaders especially the Lagos government to make a speech, there would have been no booing. What was the religious benefit of the Lagos government address? 2) The bible is filled with examples of men of God who openly attacked kings when they were going wrong and those kings retreated. If the people booed the government because they were getting out of line, why will the man of God apologize? 3) What about the threat of violence? What was in the man of God's mind when he was reminding the people of the king bearing the sword? I thought especially for people in the lekki axis, the man of God should not have made that error. That was just like trying to stoke the embers of endsars and the perceived injustice and cover ups thereto. Anyway I couldn't continue watching the programme thereafter because I didn't understand the vision anymore. That was even as there had been appearances of ambassadors and introduction of perceived high profile individuals. And I wondered, to what end?

naptu2:
I remember what happened when they tried to implement this policy c1999.

Two things that Governor Tinubu talked about as soon as he took office were (1) the return of mission schools to their owners and (2) the MOT programme.

Lagos had for long been known for its rickety danfo and molue buses. The government made it mandatory for all public buses to undergo the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) test. Vehicles that were not road worthy would not be allowed on the road. He had reached out to the auto assembly plants in Nigeria (PAN, VON, etc.) and major car companies to assist public bus owners to repair their vehicles at a discount.

Then the police and the newly formed LASTMA started impounding the buses and that's when the NURTW decided to show its power.

I went out to see things for myself and you won't believe what I saw. NURTW went on strike. There were massive crowds at bus stops as people who went out earlier in the day could not go back home because of lack of buses. Danfo buses were arriving at bus stops just to mock passengers. The conductors would call destinations and people would rush towards the buses, but they would speed off as soon as the crowd got near. Bus conductors were telling people to go and call Tinubu to come and carry them. I also saw a long convoy of danfo buses on Ikorodu Road and I learnt that they were on their way to Alausa. Okada riders made a killing on that day. Lagosians blamed the "wicked new governor" for their problems. People were calling in to radio shows to berate the government.

Then on the third or fourth day the government capitulated. The NURTW had won.

It'd be very interesting to see how they'll implement it this time.
Nice insight. It is only fools that can not remember where they are coming from. And neither will they understand where they are heading to.

It was curses galore along Okota cele road in Lagos on Sunday 28th November 2021 as early worshippers were targeted by men of the federal road safety corp for vehicle checks. Drivers were requested to produce their licenses, vehicle particulars, fire extinguishers, caution signs and the expiry dates of the tyres were checked. Brake lights were also checked. Most of these drivers lamented that despite the inability of Nigerians to feed once a day, an agency of an government is exacerbating in a mindless manner the pains of people. These victims also pointed out the terrible road situations in Nigeria which aids quick destruction of the lights and tyres. The very high and rising prices of new tyres and other vehicle parts. The delapidated nature of the vehicles used by even the frsc men. Why are these witches increasing our suffering in this country lamented a vehicle owner. Another victim decided he was no longer continuing his trip to church. According to him his day has been ruined because of how much they collected from him. This article is aimed at advising these people who think government is about inflicting pain in the name of law enforcement. You must know that government is about welfare of people. Checking tyre dates in an economy people barely feed once a day can not be priority. We heard such complaints before endsars. Can frsc withstand the storm it is presently gathering?
