Mai_Suya, thanks for the above scripture. I really do not have time but I will see how much I can dissect the scripture u just wrote and put more meaning into it. However I guess this is the only one u could find.

1. What did the Pharisees tithe? Mint: this is a genus of strongly-scented herbs. And Roe: this is a genus of strongly scented evergreen subshrubs 20–60 cm tall, in the family Rutaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, Macaronesia and southwest Asia. And then all manner of herbs (looking at the King James Version). There was no mention of money as is practiced today.
2. I was expecting to see a word from the New Testament saying that tithing was done by the apostles or Jesus himself. But no word saying we should tithe as Christians or punishment for the consequences of not tithing (as opposed to the way our pastor say that no tithing will make u tight). Rather this was Jesus lamenting on a practice of the Pharisees.
3. So what exactly was Jesus lamenting about? The emphasis on that passage was not about tithing. If you read from the beginning you would understand. Ada24 made this clear so I may not say much here. He (Jesus) also said “Woe to you Lawyers for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.” Luke 11:46 (lawyers sorry o . na Jesus talk am. Good thing I am an Engineer )
4. What actually is this tithing? Deuteronomy 14:22-29 explains [/b]what it is all about. But unfortunately this is completely different from what is being done today in our churches. I cannot explain the scripture above but pls do well to read it yourself (as it is very explanatory) and you will find about that what we do now in our churches is completely outrageous. Money was only mentioned when u can’t bring what you have. [b]And besides u don’t tithe the money. You convert it back to food stuff to tithe.
5. After Jesus left to come back again soon, was there any record or tithing amongst His disciples who walked with him all through his ministry days? They should have been the first to enact this tithing thing as they received first hand from Jesus all his teachings while here was on earth here.
6. I may not remember the scripture reference nor the way it is written word for word, but it goes something like “why do we make his death and resurrection (thus his shedding of blood of Jesus) of no effect. Seeing that we lay rules for men which amount to nothing, putting men into more yoke and making Christianity difficult. Some one who knows where I am referring to should help me with the scriptural verse. It’s in the New Testament. I am saying this as most pastors always use tithe as an excuse for the devil to attack some one whether financially or otherwise. So if I am a Christian and believe in the power of God and have Jesus as my Lord and Savior, the devil still has access to me? Something is wrong. maybe i should not even be a christian in the first place
7. Tithing as part of the law must be done along side other practices of the law. Mind you that “All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Gal 3:10 (NRS)

God is never in need of any money,neither does He needs your Tithe.You are the one who's in need. And God want to meet with your need, but GREED have prevent a lot of Christians from been blessed. A good Christian is not just he that goes to church everyday and listens to his pastor everyday and follows wholly (hook line and sinker or sheepishly as you would say) whatever the pastor says from the pulpit. A good Christian is he that goes back home as well and studies his bible by himself for himself. It is good to know the bible for yourself and believe what you read by yourself because on that last day, your pastor would not be by your side to help you answer your question. it will be you and God alone. This is what is lacking in the Christian community (studying the bible by ourselves to know the truth embedded in it). Rather we prefer to have the fast food (swallowing all we hear from the pulpit without cross-proofing from the bible when we get back home)

I know of someone who prefers to package his tithe and give it to orphanages, motherless babies, disabled people, etc. He argues that a lot of these churches just can't be trusted and that giving service/help to people who need it is service/help to God.

You have said it all. I think this is the best thing to do. Aside the fact that many pastors use tithes to enrich themselves, it is not scriptural.

I am still yet to see anyone that would come up with scriptural backing (especially from the ne testament) on paying of tithe.

This is similar to how the government subjects lottery or casino winnings to tax. However, I doubt if anyone would be so bold to pay tithe on lottery winnings   since gambling is usually not permitted in most religions.

But this is all part of income and should be tithed. Pls lets stop beating about the bush and use the bible as facts. Pls someone should show to me where tithing was adviced/encouraged/practiced anywhere in the new testament and the consequence/punishment/curse of not doing so.

After i get my salary and i pay tithe out of it, does who ever i dash money need to pay tithe again assuming he is an adult and of course there was not cost incurred before getting the money/gift from me?

i am a christian business owner. The MD/CEO/GMD of a company. And being the good christian that i am, i pay my tithe from the entire profit i make before paying my workers.

Now do my workers need to pay their tithes after getting their pay?

Ok if you say yes and they give pocket money to their children or dash someone money, do the children or the person they dash need to pay tithe again?

The problem is not being a church goer or not. It is about the biblical truth in tithe paying. Wether i go to church once in a month does not matter. I could be a better christian than those that go everyday

Mr. kunle i know u are not very happy about the development but try not to "insult" those in place of leadership. pray for them instead. most of them are true ment of God you call "criminals" but dont have the revelation of the need not to pay tithe yet.

I never thought i would contribute to this tithe thing. But i am provoked to after rerading through this thread from the begining till now i am writing. I see so many funny posts like "God taking His 10% from the source and the rest that comes to you is your 90%" This is not the best approach. If you don't want to pay your tithes please do not decieve yourself by adopting this method. Don't pay outrightly and live with your conscience that way.

This is just a mention of an event that happened in the old testament and not a statement affirming the fact that we are supposed to pay our tithes.

I had to put up this quote as it is the norm for many "men of God" to quote a scripture of the bible for thier own benefit. Honestly i am yet to see any place in the new testament that say we should pay out "tenth" or tithe to the church, be it money or food stuff.

Now, you all must know that i pay my tithe even if i am sounding like i am against tithe paying. i have payed it right since my secondary school (as many pastors would encourage people to do, even if your mummy dash you N10, you must pay N1 tithe). But i pay my tithe not because i feel it is compulsory, but because i see it as my contribution to the work of God through my church. I am at liberty to use the 10% (more or less) to buy gifts or give it outrightly to the poor or needy or widows or those in prison if i want to.

In view of this, I buy the idea of singili who says he/she would be giving 10% to the less previleged. but bros mind the way you say "God Damn Churches". leave the churches to God to damn. just do what u know is right.

JPworld you are taking things to the extreme if i may say. You need God in your life. All the wealth in this world cannot offer to you what God can offer to you. So even if you don't pay tithes, please acknowledge God in all you do. Reverence, fear and worship Him.
