Thalidomide - C13H10N2O4 is a sedative drug used to treat leprosy but also used for pregnant women but was withdrawn after causimg defects in babies. It was used here figuratively by the dude to demonstrate the institutional sedation of EFCC to render it powerless and deformed
Dr know, i knew there was something between that word and a drug. At least i go school reach that level wink. I was almost thinking he (patrick) was suggesting Thalazole for EFCC, since there "stomach dey run". grin

Thanks for the clarification though.

I guess his prayers goes straight to jesus!

I wonder how much will be jesus commission in oda for him to answer the prayers or better still how much will Jesus charge for each of his miracles if he were to be alive today!
grin Brother mistaken. Prayer by-passes Jesus and goes straight to God Himself.

If this is true, then its a big pity. Our great men of God have missed the mark terribly.

Hi italian Italo,

One must not say the word "worship" in a song or quotation before it is considered that one worships another. Worship could be in physical actions as well which is exactly what is done by kneeling before the image of holy mary and praying to her or singing anything to her.

Thank God you went to a Catholic Church. So tell us:

Did anyone force you or anyone else to sing to Mary?

What was being sung to her? Were they singing "You are our God, we worship you"?

What prayers were said during the Mass and in whose name were they said?

If men sing to women all the time eg 2face singing to "all the African Queens", what is wrong with us singing to the Mother of our Lord?

And to answer your question, the Apostle John said not everything that happened is written in the Bible. Are you okay?

@proo212. How did I contradict myself? In all I've said, Mary prays for us to Jesus, intercedes on our behalf to Jesus as in Cana, everything about her leads us to Jesus, wit your examples,in wat ways or by what understanding do Ɣ☺Ʊ see a contradiction? Have I in all my narration ever said d catholic focus is on Mary? Why do Ɣ☺Ʊ look for wat is not there? I don't know, doesn't make sense.
Hi. The Bolded phrases are actually the job of the Holy spirit. Any other person or thing that does this does not lead your to Jesus but someone esle (and this someone else is the Devil Himself). I guess i sounded strong this time? wink

Any way, if no one can claim or prove that Mary was assumed to heaven, i will just take it that she died like other human beings and would be judged as well by God. This is what i will be telling my friend. I hope she makes heaven wink.

Now this thread is progressing. I can't believe i have been away for this long. Don't blame me. Was working very hard for money to pay bills. One write up caught my interest and that is the write up of coolviv as follows:

If Mary had other children, why was it necessary for Jesus to hand her over to John and from then on, he made a place in his home for her?D bible says nothing dat has sin can be in d presence of God, then how can he be in d womb of an ordinary human girl born wit sin as all humans r? Was she d only girl livin right? In those days every young girl ideally remained a virgin unlike today. So what stood Mary out? She was prepared even from her mothers womb to be d mother of Jesus,Son of God.she was conceived without sin to achieve this. Why catholics love her so much and pray to her? Because d first recorded miracle of Jesus was done at her request inspite of his unwillingness to do it, He honored His mothers request. She saw d wine had finished n took pity on d young couple for such a thing would disgrace them. And even though he refused and said it wasn't time, she still told d servants to do whatever He says knowing full well that her son will listen to her request. Who would not want such a loving mother who can get Jesus to help even if he doesn't want to. Every prayer, every devotion, everythin dat has to do with Mary always leads us back to Jesus. The rosary which takes us thru d life of Jesus from His birth to His death to d devotions to d sacred heart of Jesus. Can a mother be separated from her child? Never! Even after death, if Ɣ☺Ʊ see your mother, ul still love and care for her. How can Ɣ☺Ʊ say Ɣ☺Ʊ love me and then Ɣ☺Ʊ hate and deride my mother?wat would Ɣ☺Ʊ do to someone who insults your mother? Ɣ☺Ʊ an ordinary human being how much more Jesus.Remember she carried him for 9 good months and went into labour to deliver just like your own mother did. So does your mother become useless after givin birth to Ɣ☺Ʊ? If Ɣ☺Ʊ become d president where will Ɣ☺Ʊ put your mother? If Ɣ☺Ʊ sinful human beings can be so good to your mother then how much more Jesus Himself. We catholics know we can always pray directly to God but we ask Mary our mother to add her own prayers to our own and not just her but Saints like Joseph, Peter, John and d others who we believe are wit Jesus in heaven. Just like a president has family and friends who can be networked to gain favour even though Ɣ☺Ʊ can go directly to d president.we believe His mother, stepfather Joseph, peter james john and all His apostles are wit him in heaven partakin of d glory He promised those who follow Him to d end and we pray to any or all of them to intercede on our behalf for whatever we r asking for. D richness of faith in d catholic church is unquantifiable. For it retains d very traditions of christianity. Even atheists avoid us cuz our miracles r not circus magic but pure and uncontestable even by scientists who don't believe in God. Like d unveilin of d coffin of a priest Padre pio who died decades ago and his half of his bother was as smooth and clean as a live person. It was unveiled to d world and scientists hopin to disprove it took tests upon tests but went home in disappointment as dey could find nothing to disprove. Google d name to learn more of d priest who lived most of his life carrying d wounds of Jesus in his hands, a wound dat never closed or healed or got infected. If Ɣ☺Ʊ still doubt then know dat every other denomination have their origin dates, some were founded by pastors dat r still alive and d church may end wit their death but it is only d catholic church that dates its origin to d time of Jesus Christ, its first pope St Peter, d rock on which Christ built his church, one church. Every other church came out of it so it is d first one true church by logic alone established by Jesus Christ Himself and although there have been bad eggs and there will always be bad eggs in it, it remains d main church, d original church before any other 10 yrs old, 20 yrs old or 50yrs old church.
It was lengthy and from the heart. However i have some disputes with the bolded sections. For the unbolded sections, i either agree with you, or some other soothing replies have been made to it, or have nothing to say just yet about them. So i proceed with my comments this way:

Bolded Phrase 1: I have read through the bible and there is no place written or suggesting that Mary was prepared right from her mother's womb to be the mother of Jesus. So i ask, where is this coming from? Rather her encounter with the angel that broke the good news to her (that she would bear Jesus) came as a surprise and she even initially disbelieved it saying "how could this be?". So my best guess is that she never knew she would be giving birth to Jesus. Besides the angel said "you have found favour with God". So i think she was just favoured to be chosen by God (reasons best known to God) amongst her pairs that were virgins too and lived uprightly. Again, Mary was concieved without sinhuh undecided I wonder where people get this teaching from. embarassed Why do we add to the bible what was never in it? huh

Bolded Phrase 2: The first miracle done by Jesus was not requested by Mary because it would have been done all the same if she was not there. Know that Jesus was at the marriage feast and observed what was happening as well. When Mary walked up to him to let him know of the obvious His response was "Woman, why do you involve me? My Hour has not come" and not " Mummy, ok i will do it because you asked me to". Funny enough He did not even call her Mother but Woman. He knew what he was supposed to do before Mary approached him. but He did not do it yet because His time had not come.

Bolded Phrase 3,4 and 5: I will simply answer with the following bible passages. John 14:6 . John 10:1. John 14:26. Romans 8:26. I guess these few passages are explicit enough. Bottom line is 1-christians approach God thru Jesus. 2-intercession is made for us by the Holy Spirit. 3 The Holy spirit is given to all Christians (as was promised by Jesus before He left. Remember, he did not say any of his apostles or even Mary should intercede on our behalf).

Bolded Phrase 6: I actually dont have anything about the richness of faith of the catholics wink cheesy. I only just wonder if these fundamentals written above are warped, what exactly if the faith rich in?

I know many will bad mouth me after reading this. But i don't care as long as what i said is written in the Bible and is the truth. You can correct me from the bible only, if i am wrong with anything i mentioned above.

WOW!. What a lengthy analysis by plappville. Thanks. te summary of your writeup i can say, lies in you last statement:

It is sad to see the Roman Catholic church go to such lengths to maintain Mary's virginity, something that is a violation of biblical law to be married and fill the earth.
For me i would rather go with what the bible tells me than what some big theologian assume of refer to be what is true.

Good Day People,

I usually hardly start a new topic or comment on posts unless i feel i have the necessity to. But what i do every single day is read posts from individuals, especially here on Religion section. So probably most of you might not know me.

I had a talk with a friend who is a catholic and for reasons we talked about the birth of Jesus as immaculate etc. But something struck me when my friend pointed out to me that apart from the fact that Mary was a virgin before giving birth to Jesus (which i agree), she remained a virgin ever since and was assumed (as in taken up alive) into heaven. This i was not comfortable with and thought i should share here and hear the opinion of distinguished and honourable members of this National Assembly called NairaLand wink (Religion Section in particular).

Was my friend right in his assertion (in bold) and why/why not? huh

Pls let try to hold back sentiments and tongue lashing and be objective, using biblical references to prove our points.

Good posting bro.Although everyone too had tried their best in their own way,but this chitney to me by far is more "soothing".however to join any gathering,do so with an open unbiased mind and not necessarily based on what you 'see by sight'.
And to start a "fellowship" center,do you suppose you know the reason why there are different ministries? They have various purposes.some for healing, some for teaching, some for overseas mission, etc.have u asked urself "why I'm I to start a fellowship center?".what's the purpose.u never can tell u may need additional "training and exposure" from bible colleges, etc.
Take some time off, observe from the media which messages seemed applicable to your "gift"then perhaps, you are on the right path.
I once heard of a minister in the mission I'm a worker,RCCG. His then pastor was so nasty and vindictive he was frustrated to live having spent more than 15 years.but guess what, after a brief break rather than living he started a house fellowship center but aligned with another province entirely. Today,he has no regret for that decision as that fellowship center is now a zonal headquaters.
Shalom!
Mr jidewin, Sir thanks for your response. But i was hoping to get a reply from Mr Joagbaje Sir smiley. I am glad for your response. Though one may not be the head of the house fellowship, one can attend one in place of church. This is my position. For me the idea behind not neglecting the fellowship with the brethren is all about people coming together in one place (they could be 2 or more) and pray, praise and worship this our God with a pure heart in spirit and in truth. It could be just one place of meeting. No need for Branches or what have you. You sit together and prayerfully discuss the word and works of God. You will be amazed at the display of God's true gift amongst your fellow brethren that would bless you far much more than you can imagine. I wish i could be involved in such gathering as this. If i do, I could choose to go or not to go to my big church or gathering as an option (if i like).
Christianity EtcRe: I Am Tired Of Going To Church by chiteny(m): 9:39am On Nov 11, 2011
^^^^
let's take it that Theres false doctrine in your church, why don't you find a better church? The bible clearly states we must attend fellowship together. If you can't that ,you've already believed a false doctrine against the word of God. It's the devil that tries  to isolate a christian from the rest of the body . Theres a purpose in God for you and we need the body of which you're a member. You have a role in the church, others have roles in your life.

1 Corinthians 12:21
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

Going to church is not a social gathering . It's a spiritual obedience. It goes beyond feelings. And you need the ministry of a pastor. So if the place you are not being fed where you are, ask God to lead you to a church where you can be well fed and grow. He will lead you. But not to stay at home.
Mr. Joagbaje, Sir pls does someone necessarily have to leave his house to a big building where there are many people gathered before it is said that he is going to fellowship? I am writing this with respect to your comment in bold as shown above. Can the 2 or 3 gathered in my house to worship and praise God also be referred to as fellowshipping with the brethren?

Hello Everyone,

First and foremost I would like to greet everyone. I hope you are all having a peaceful week, by the Grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I have been going through some tough times. I am looking for a powerful prophet of God. Does anyone on here happen to know one?

I really need revelations regarding my life, especially on marriage.

If you do please let me know and I will give you my email address. If you happen to be a Prophet of God please feel free to message me or write on here and I will be glad to forward you my email.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!
OP, let your quest not lead you into the hands of dupes and false prophesy that would lead you into a worse situation than you already are in. IMO, you need counselling more that a "POWERFUL PROPHET". You could share your thoughts or troubles here and will find good counsel (amidst many stupid comments) here.

God Bless You.

In addition to the write up of HisChild,

And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife? (1 Corinthians 7:13-16 KJV)

@OP, 1. Do not look for any excuse to chase your wife and commit adultery.
2. Try to work out the marriage first and leave peaceably with each other. You as the Christian should be the one to initiate this.
3. If however the unbelievingly wife chooses against all reconcilable odds to leave the marriage, you are free to get married to another wife.
4. If you (OP) are a Christian, sanctify or make holy your unbelievingly wife when have intercourse.

These points are clearly referred from the scripture above.

@Chiteny, That was a well written post but you ruined everything at the ending by saying "it makes us look worse than unbelievers". What's that supposed to mean? That Atheists are evil and don't help people? Look up any any Atheist you know and google the name with the word "charity" and see if nothing comes up. Is bill gates a christian? Yet he shells out millions and billions to help sick and starving kids in africa and he doesn't make too much noise about it. Every now and then, I give to the motherless babies home without making a big fuss. There is no week I don't get one request or the other from some family member or friend in need and I do my best. I don't need to read a bible or Quran to help out. I don't do because I want blessings. I do it because it feels good doing it. That's what differs "unbelievers" from people like yourselves. How can you claim the moral high ground when every "good deed" you do is either because the bible orders you to do it or because you want blessings?
Thanks for the observation. Maybe out of anger I did not have time to reread the writeup before posting. Thanks for the correction. But what I meant was evil doers and not necessarily unbelievers.
Christianity EtcRe: Tempted To Assist A Family With God's Money (Tithe) by chiteny(m): 7:14am On Oct 03, 2011
After reading through most posts here I felt some anger within me which I must express this way. ALL OF THOSE WHO ADVICED THE OP TO PAY THE MONEY AS TITHE RATHER THAN HELP A NEEDY BROTHER ARE VERY WICKED. This is what "organized religion" has turn many Christians into. We see a brother in need and we have the resource to help him, but say "God be with you" and then go to church "happily" to lift up "holy hands". That is simply wicked. The God I serve is not that wicked.

This is just like the parable Jesus told of the man who got robbed and heated by armed robbers on the way. "GREAT MEN of God" walked pass him, possibly saying "God will help and provide for u". It was only the Samaritan that helped him.

Please God2man, Tesxther and others, be more compassionate like Jesus u claim to follow. With the way u sounded, I feel you could see someone dying and turn the other way, because u must not use ur "tithe money" to save his should from death.

I also blame most of our "GREAT MEN of God" that have poisoned the minds of many with false doctrines of men and wicked teachings. Now christianity which was meant to be easy and simple, whose yoke is meant to be light is now looking very complex and wicked, with heavy yoke, making us look even worse than the unbelievers.

Gos help us all.

The bolded section is where we as Christians get things wrong sometimes. We should go beyond doing good to our "loyal member". We should extend help to all and sundry. What will it profit me if I only do good to whom I am sure will receive good from? That is hypocrisy.

You could look at the soup, cake and car and say the colour of the soup is fine and it smells good, the cake looks lovely and well designed, the car looks like it is balanced and drives smoothly. But if u are not the participant, you cannot tell exactly or precisely the features and xtics.

The second bold is partly answered in the first answer given. You can comment but have limitation to your comment as a result of lack of first hand practical knowledge which could make your comment rather awkward or outrightly foolish.

@OP: I feel your pain, the fact is that you have made the mistake already and you are now looking to redress that mistake. My advice to you is to divorce her with/without her consent, life is too short to spend it in a relationship that is clearly not working out. If divorce is not immediately possible, you guys should get separated for some time to try out other people, no need wasting time with a lady you clearly don't agree with.

Anyone who feels that being a virgin grants a moral stamp of approval is totally wrong. Virginity is not a virtue and has never been a virtue, there are much more important virtues in life than a girl who made a simple choice not to be intimate until she gets grey hairs in her punny!

Christianity EtcRe: How To Reap The Full Benefits Of Tithing by chiteny(m): 4:24am On Jul 16, 2011
Fourthly,

lets see this:

15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment (Mosaic's), but after the power of an endless life.

Now if Jesus was connected to the order of an ancient spiritual priest, dont you think tithing should be made to refer to how this ancient priest collected his own?

Recall it was the laws of Moses that was made disannulled not the "order of melchisedec".

Now this my friend is the reason why today we can pay tithes in any mode (i.e. Money, cars, time, service, shelter, cloths etc.) because by reference to Abraham's time, bible said he gave the priest a tenth of ALL he possessed which means Abraham gave gold, silvers, cattles, sheep ETC.

Genesis 14:20 - And blessed be God Most High, who has defeated your enemies for you." Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered
I thought i will not be talking on this issue of tithing anymore if not for the fact that your write up here made a little sense (disregarding all other write-up on why we should pay tithes which were to me senseless)

But i have a little doubt or questions to the sense you are making here. Honestly i have been reading most of the tithing posts to find just someone to convince me to pay tithe and for ones u nearly did.

Like you said Tonye-T, of which i agree, that Jesus' priest hood was of the order of Melchizedek and not like other priests. And Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedek and the manner with which he paid it was different from that commanded by Moses. Your argument like i am made to understand, is that we could also pay our tithe in cash and other stuff (unlike fruits and food as the law commanded). But i want us to take a look at something from the same Genesis passage you quoted:

16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. EBD NTB SBD
17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. EBD NTB SBD TTT
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. EBD NTB SBD TTT
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: EBD NTB SBD TTT
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Now Abraham gave the tithe of all his plunder (except that which belonged to the kingdom of sodom) to Melchizedek which included silver etc. No doubt. And you said "it was the laws of Moses that was made disannulled not the "order of melchisedec". " on which you base your argument that we should still pay tithe and even cash wise as well. So my question is this:

1. Why do our "pastors" still use Malachi 3 (which i guess was addressing tithing practiced according to the laws of Moses) to justify their collection of our monies. . . And they use that to threaten curses on us?

2. Was Abraham in any was forced to give his tithe to " Priest Mel"? To me i guess it was just voluntary and willing "giving" or "offereing" in appreciation of the blessing rained on him by "priest Mel" as you can see from the passage above. This could be further substanciated by the fact that there was no other record before then of Abrahams tithing. This does not mean he never had any produce from his fields as we are meant to understand he was a wealthy man.

3. Was there any record of Jesus (who is the Most high priest of the order of "priest Mel", or maybe His immediate disciples) collecting tithes (especially as practiced today) from people when He was still on earth? (i think as the Most high priest he deserves to collect more and even make it compulsory more than "Priest Mel"wink.

I have other questions as well. But if u answer these satisfactorily, i will start paying my tithes (and maybe calculate the ones i have owed to include in it).

Tithing as practiced today is a far cry from what God wants. God has always hammers on willing offering or giving. He has not forced anything on mankind.

and just a wild thought, does your pastor pay tithe and to whom does he pay the tithe?
