BascoVanVeli:
I'm tired of Rohr asking players to perform tasks and then taking them off when his plan does not work. He will turn around and claim Iheanacho didn't have a good game when it was clear he did what his coach asked
yeah KC dropping deep didn't allow his game to flourish. He hasn't played the number 10 position effectively since his under-17 days. The little I saw of him in the final third today I feel in my opinion he was very dangerous. Remember in the first half when he took out a couple of Benin defenders and Unleashed a powerful shot which their keeper saved. I feel Alex was really missed today. He would have advanced the ball to the strikers more often.

warriors performance from Osimhen. wasn't 100% plus everything didn't drop for but his never say die spirit contributed to the winning goal. happy onuachu finally ended his long run of no goals.

KC was sharp, honorable mentions to balogun, ndidi, sanusi and chukwueze.

Very low-key performance but nice show of character from the boys to earn a deserved win.

It will be a miracle if we get a draw tomorrow!
We are playing in Benin yet we make it seems like we are playing in a distant place like China.
Ridiculous and absolutely disgusting!
How can you take players on a 6 hours Boat and Land trip to Benin republic a day before an important game and still ask them to train the same day?
Are you out of your f.. mind?
guy calm down. there have been times national teams arrived on the day of the match and still played. I also felt that going by water would be a bad idea but I learnt going by road would even be worse due to the bad state of the badagry Express which is not the NFF's fault. Plus there is no airport in the town where they going to play the match so going by water unconventional was The Logical choice

you see it my guy why wouldn't a top performing english talent excite the old trafford faithful if he was so outstanding?

yes you are right united fans never rated him when he joined

carrick was ok but the English midfielders I remember getting hype during that period were scholes, lampard, gerrard, joe cole, hargreaves (then at bayern). It was when Carrick joined Man U and started performing optimally that I started hearing his name more often.

charlesemeka85:
carrick wasn't rated by many but was good and among the best in spurs team in his last season before he left for united

verifiable facts prove Bruno was already a top player before joining Man U. show me the stats that prove carrick was already a top player before joining united and I will shut up about it.

jihday:
In 15years time someone like you will say Bruno Fernandes was an ordinary player before joining United but in reality you may have never seen him play. Carrick was a top player before he joined United

English players have always been bought for huge amounts what else is new? I insist Carrick pre-Man U days wasn't rated by many. Can you prove Carrick was the reason Tottenham regularly finished 7th?

jihday:
Tottenham regularly finished in the top 7. A player bought for 18mill in 2006? Stop capping Bro

exactly you get my point.

TheGoodJoe:
I was not blown away by him until some years at Manchester United.

Years later. He was a very top player. That is what chrisooblog is talking About.

Over the years at Manchester United, Carrick was highly special.

By the way, I didn't even know his name at West Ham.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 3:22pm On Mar 25, 2021
Carrick wasn't turning heads then. The standout players then were Kanoute, defoe and joe cole. It was when he joined Manchester United that his game now really flourished. I mean look at Lampard he was just there at West Ham but see how he transformed into a world class player at Chelsea.

wayodude:
Young Michael Carrick of West Ham was a jam body playerhuh shocked

Nah bro, you wrong.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 3:17pm On Mar 25, 2021
when spurs where known as Tottering hotspur? Carrick was just another English midfielder nobody knew even scott parker sef was better known. It was when carrick joined Man U that his game transformed for the better. I know he was part of the glenn hoddle team that finished I think 5th that season that had the likes of jermaine defoe and joe cole.

jihday:
Do you people think we don't watch ball here? Carrick another jam body? Somebody that was a top talent at spurs?
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 3:09pm On Mar 25, 2021
disagree 100% Mikel in 2006 AFCON was phenomenal considering the fact that he wasn't playing club football due to the Chelsea/Manchester United controversy.

Mind you we had some solid midfielders in Wilson Oruma and Christian Obodo but Mikel still outshone them both. That a young man with barely any national team experience who hadn't played club football for months would come in and dominate veterans should tell you of his talent. I remember watching how he would control the tempo of our midfield and make us dominant in that part of the pitch. Even the game we lost to CIV was lack of defensive discipline that cost us yet Mikel still held his against a team that had Yaya Toure, Zokora o!.

Okocha was already spent in 2006.

Just to appreciate how good Mikel was that year can you imagine Keshi or Rohr picking an inactive, inexperienced 18-year-old for a tournament like the AFCON and making him the fulcrum of your midfield?

jihday:
Wasn't very impressive in 2006, started in place of okocha and our attack was very poor, okocha later replaced him (I think)

you didn't ever hear about the paul scholes story? grin

BascoVanVeli:
I have heard of disdain but completely sidelining an agent is wrong. Would Sir Alex sign a new contract without his agent?

Iniesta knew how to score in crucial moments.
elyte89:
Have u ever checked iniesta goals /assist record in Barcelona career.. Its very poor..I was shocked when I saw it too..he had few goals and assist.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 12:01pm On Mar 25, 2021
Good offensive line up but the question to ask is those it offer that right balance in terms of defence. This line up is great against the likes of lesotho, benin, togo but against Senegal, Algeria or Morocco we would need to tweak the formation to give them a solid defensive foundation while not reducing their attacking potential.

ChrisKels:
If we had a reasonable coach, then we could bring down any team in Africa using this line up, though at the long run, I would shake it up by replacing Iwobi with Ademola Lookman. Also Maduka should sit for Uzoho.

Nice line up

You make good points however Shittu was the one who orchestrated Mikel's trials with Chelsea. Ferguson knew he had no chance getting Mikel through Shittu. Hence the reason why he used Anderson to try and get Mikel. He also probably thought Mikel would probably want to be his own man having just turned 18 but unfortunately for Sir Alex he didn't reckon that Chelsea had other leverage on the young man.

If you know Sir Alex's notorious disdain for agents then his actions won't have surprised you.

BascoVanVeli:
But why would Manchester United unveil a player without going through his agent? Shittu did the right thing if he was in fact the agent. Man U were trying to do crooked and ethical business. Would they have bypassed him if he was a white agenthuh I have to ask because people have just overlooked facts for too long. Here we have a black man managing one of the hottest prospects in the game and a club bypasses him on the biggest deal of his career. Manchester United should also admit that they were wrong

One word Ego!

TheGoodJoe:
I heard there were lots of threats and secrecy behind that saga. Mikel had no choice from his former agent, Anderson. But, why did Chelsea not let him be when they could sign anyone at that time.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 11:04am On Mar 25, 2021
i agree 100% Man U would have been ideal for Mikel. Chelsea and Mourinho were just desperate not to give Ferguson any ammunition to hurt them.

Dude the thing weak me sef. I mean look at someone like Carrick before he arrived Man U he was just another random jam body english midfielder but see how ferguson polished him. That's one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of Jose respect his successes but as a developer of talents i rate him very low

elunico:
The man tried his best sha. He was already affectionately referring to him as Obi Wan. Scholes was already looking out for the young lad. Damn! How I looked forward to that signing.

Chelsea just had to go to the extreme to get him. Fergie would have made him a better baller, I'm almost certain of that.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:53am On Mar 25, 2021
yeah Mikel was caught in the cross fire between Ferguson and Mourinho's egò/ambition.

anytime I remember Mikel's displays at U20 WC and 2006 AFCON like you I always have what ifs flooding through my mind of what john could have become

TheGoodJoe:
Exactly. Ferguson saw a replica to Scholes that would form a twin partnership.

Ferguson loved everything about Mikel.

During the saga, I watched on MUTV how Ferguson flew repeatedly to Norway to convince Mikel not to accept the Chelsea deal.

Rumors have it that it was beyond footballing terms. There were forces behind Mikel not going to Manchester United.

Mikel even pointed out that after Chelsea beat Manchester United in the FA Cup Final, Ferguson still told Mikel that he would play for him.

How Mourinho robbed Mikel of such love from a top coach is heart breaking.

I really hate remembering this Mikel issue. It pains me.

Yeah Obasi and co. had to consider their careers as well.

soetanoreoluwa:
Mikel hands were tied up that time. The offer Chelsea made was too juicy to be ignored however three of Mikel friends were "kidnapped" along side Mikel And Chelsea promised to signed all if he agreed to sign for Chelsea plus the 30million pounds transfer fee... You can't blame young Mikel. He just want to play football
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:41am On Mar 25, 2021
well I wouldn't blame Ferguson too much on this because he went to extremes even almost breaking the law to sign Mikel. It was Mikel's reps backed by chelsea hierarchy that made john spurn Sir Alex's advances and I wouldn't have blamed the scot to washed his hands of the deal as bad market
elunico:
Ferguson didn't want him enough. Else, how could he have let Mikel slip after his unveiling as a UTD signing?

when e no be traffic warden. I agree 100% with Andrew that Pepe is better than ALL the current epl defenders full CAPS. The only one someone can use to argue is Thiago Silva but I can easily say Pepe has a UCL to his name. VVD sef the jury is still out on him whether he's a activity former.

JayromWrites:
Andrewbaba44 you r too kind in your assessment

Pepe is one of the last of his kind.. A defender that excelled because he can actually defend nt because he is good at pointing fingers

Pepe at 38 will start at all the premier league teams bar man city

really happy for KC I have always insisted along with other notable posters like Goodjoe and Supernerd that if you give Iheanacho a run of games you will begin to see the best of him. Whatever happens going forward whether Kelz decides to stay at Leicester or go elsewhere he has shown that he's an elite level striker which rightly trashes the frankly ridiculous notion by some posters would not be able to attract suitors in the EPL.

I know some peeps would saw why are we celebrating because he scored against the bottom teams in the EPL well he can only score against the teams put before him.

so Musa is now a United Nations peacekeeper? grin between Rohr and NFF hmmm

Austin removing Moffi? grin grin grin

really hope this Olise news turns out to be legit not that come June he would have disappeared.
smartsmith0907:
It Micheal olise of reading he accepted SE some weeks ago he couldn't make the main list because of passport... He is not the only one affected with the passport issue the some other players were also affected but will be called up in the subsequently matches that quite sad....
Moffi was actually on the list before it was changed by Austin ( technical director) but for real no one can overlook nacho performance
Concern shehu invitation we all thought olise will be coming in but the passport issue was just there so the technical committee added up shehu as his replacement that was a late decision
Musa was in the team because of the personality clashed between some players .
