Some suspected gunmen have kidnapped a commercial photographer in Edo State.
The victim, David Iseramenya, was abducted on Friday, 10 September 2021 when returning from Igueben, where he covered a wedding ceremony.

According to Standard Gazette, the gunmen ambushed him along Benin-Iruekpen-Ehor Road in Edo State.

It was reported that the bandit forced the vehicle to stop at gunpoint before dragging him into the forest.

An eyewitness whose name cannot be mentioned because of the severity and security concern said he witnessed the incident while on his motorcycle.

He said, “I was riding a motorcycle on the road, and I suddenly saw about eight men dragging a man into the bush. I quickly reversed my motorcycle and escaped. Some of them were even firing gunshots”.

It was gathered that the suspected kidnappers had already called the victim’s wife, demanding five million naira or have him killed within days.

In an audio recording as seen on Standard Gazette, the wife is heard begging the kidnappers who had disguised its voice to give her more days to sort for the cash.
Mrs Iseramenya, David’s wife, completely in tears, begged her husband’s kidnapper not to hurt him as she had no such amount to pay.
The family is in total panic as the kidnappers threaten to kill their victims if the ransom is not paid in days.

They have warned them not to inform the police as they will know if the police are contacted.

Ebeano Supermarket Fire: Patrick Obahiagbon Speak on fate of 9-year-old suspect

Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon has said a criminal liability cannot be secured against the kid in regular court as a result of her juvenile legal status.

The burning of Ebeano supermarket in Abuja and the subsequent viral video involving a minor is generating a buzz on social media.

The supermarket, located in Lokogoma area of Abuja, was engulfed by fire on the 17th of July and a viral video emerged on Monday showing how the fire started.
In the video, a young girl, who is reported to be about 9years old, could be seen setting fire on some items close to some highly flammable items. The little fire resulted in the massive inferno that firefighters struggled to put out.
According to legal experts, there is room for both criminal and civil trial on the matter, but with the involvement of a minor as the principal suspect has changed the dynamic of the case.

Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, a lawyer and former senatorial candidate, while asked for his view on the subject matter explained that even as the incidence appears to have been a well rehearsed one, but does not seem that a criminal liability can be secured against the 9-year-old.

ChrisOsaMedia.Com reports that, Obahiagbon, popularly known as IGODOMIGODO who was also sympathetic about the unfortunate incident, said “let me start by asseverating that it's a very unfortunate incident and my compassion goes out to the owner of Ebeanor supermarket who has suffered a monumental loss by virtue of the deprecable incident.

The former member House of Representatives who spoke with Chris Osa Media on Wednesday continued by saying “It appears to me that the macabre incident was well rehearsed and premeditated against the backdrop of the precision, brutal specificity and clinical finish that greeted it's dastardly execution.

It does not seem to me that a criminal liability can however be secured in a regular court, given the "juvenileness" legal status of the kid.

It's my view however that she can be a qualified candidate for an aproposical juvenile court but not without the law enforcement agencies determination of unearthing the possibility of tracing the possibility of Esaus hand in the silhouette of events for the kid may as well be a victim herself of some machiavellian forces pushing the agenda of a trade war.

Dangote Bribes NNPC Directors With $100M To Jack Up Equity Share To 30%…Undisclosed sum marked for NASS approval

The Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has allegedly received $100million bribe to approve Nigeria’s 30 percent equity share in the  Dangote Refinery which is valued at $19billion, pointblanknews investigations have revealed.

Pointblanknews.com had exclusively  reported on the plans by the President Mohammadu Buhari’s cabal to acquire 30 percent, a move which allegedly angered some members of the NNPC board over what was considered an outrageous sums involved in the deal.

Sources confirmed to Pointblanknews.com the NNPC board met on Friday, collected the bribe money and swiftly stamped its approval for the 30 percent equity stake in Africa’s biggest oil refining facility, Dangote Refinery.

The Federal Government is expected to pay about $5.7 billion being the 30 percent worth of the equity to Dangote Refinery, a source told Pointblanknews

The Chief Operating Officer, Refining and Petrochemical, Engr. Mustapha Yakubu, had objected to the deal, accusing bird members of approving a deal that would have Nigeria cough out a scandalous $5.7billion, a source told Pointblanknews

According to the source, Yakubu had recommended a 20 percent equity stake in the  Dangote Refinery but pressure from Aliko Dangote and some members of the Presidency Cabal insisted on a 30 percent which would see them benefit from the deal.

The source further revealed that the leadership of the National Assembly are also expected to be bribed to stamp its approval of a $1billion loan to be obtained and paid to Dangote refinery as part of the $5.7billion deal in the 30 percent acquisition.

The remainder of the money is to be paid from crude to be given to Dangote refinery, a source knowledgeable about the deal confirmed to pointblanknews

According to the source, the bribe figure to be paid to the lawmakers has not been agreed upon by both parties but the money will be released early next week as the legislators prepare to embark on their summer vacation.

Pointblanknews gathered that the Federal Government will approach  Afrexim Bank for an inital $1billion to Dangote Refinery on the completion of the Memorandum of Understanding  as part of its equity while the balance will be offset using crude oil supply to the refinery.

According to source, “the Board of the NNPC already received a hundred million dollars from Dangote to agree to the deal to jack up the equity stake to 30 percent. Dangote is also planning to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly to discuss the matter.

Though no figure has been agreed but a sum in the region of $200 million is being projected as bribe considering the number of the would be beneficiaries. The lawmakers are preparing for their summer break and efforts are on to conclude the deal early next week.

“Part of the agreement is that Government will raise  $1billion through AFREXIM Bank which will be paid to Dangote Group as the initial payment however, the balance will be offset using crude oil. Crude will be supplied to the refinery regularly to balance the outstanding equity. “

Dangote Refinery, valued at $19 billion by its owners is estimated to have 650,000 barrels per day capacity, plus a mini 80,000 tonnes per annum petrochemical plant.

Pointblanknews had reported that for the audacity to block the fraud, NNPC Chief Operating Officer, Refining and Petrochemicals, Mr Mustapha Yakubu may be facing a sack, though he has over a year to retire from service.

Recall that Mr Yakubu, while speaking recently at the end of a 2-day Nigeria Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), 2021, tagged: “Leveraging Opportunities and Synergies for Post Pandemic Recovery of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry” said that Nigerian government has approved only 20 percent equity stake in the Dangote Refinery and not 30 percent as demanded by the cabal.

The source said though bribe has been offered however, Yakubu’s insistence on 20 percent equity stake as directed by the presdiency is however causing a division amongst the NNPC board with some members insisting that the cabal are cashing out from the deal even when Dangote’s valuation of his refinery is suspect.

“Not completing my tenure as national chairman of APC no big deal – Oshiomhole, thanks 14 members elect for keeping to faith, others

Immediate past governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said that it does not matter that he did not complete his tenure as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He stated this on Monday during the party’s enlarged leaders’ meeting across Edo north senatorial district of the state, held at Auchi.

Oshiomhole had to step aside as national chairman of the party, following a law suit that affirmed his removal as a member of the party in his ward.

He however said that what matters is that he occupied the office of the national chairman of the party, for which he said he remains thankful to God for.

“I have every reason to be grateful to God for His grace upon me. It is on record that I did not only do eight years as governor, but the party also worked hard to have my successor elected on the platform. It does not matter what happened thereafter.

“I also was privileged to become the national chairman of our party and it does not matter even if I had spent just two days in that office. All that matters is that I occupied the office and it is a history that cannot be changed and for which I am grateful to God.

“It is for this reason that I have an obligation to continue to maintain and sustain the ladder which by the help of other people I used to climb up, so that others too can take advantage of that ladder to even climb higher than I did,” he said.

Commenting on members of the party who were elected to the State House of Assembly, but were yet to be inaugurated, Oshiomhole thanked them for keeping their faith, noting that even though they committed no sin, they are being denied their right to be sworn-in to represent their constituents.

TB Joshua's daughter put to bed

TB Joshua’s Daughter on June 12 put to bed a bouncing Baby boy. Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, grandson

Some Nigerians who believe in reincarnation have described the birth of TB Joshjas grandson as a perfect exam of reincarnation considering how close the death and birth was, coupled with the fact that TB Joshua’s birthday is same as the baby’s birthday.

Politics / A Must Read “the Day Abacha Died” by ChrisOsaEdo(m): 10:55am On Jun 09, 2021

Friday June 5, 1998, was a cool bright day. Before we left the Villa, the Press Corps was informed that the leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, Yasser Arafat, would be making a brief stop-over at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, enroute Morocco. And he was expected to hold a brief discussion with the General Sani Abacha. We were therefore expected to be at the airport to cover the event on Sunday, June 7. It was a topical assignment in view of Nigeria's neutral position in the Middle East conflict. Besides, the rest of us were keen to meet Mr. Arafat, the man at the centre of the storm.

That Sunday morning, the Press Corps headed for the airport to await the arrival of Yasser Arafat. We did not have to wait for too long before the Palestinian leader arrived, accompanied by a very modest delegation. President Arafat and General Abacha immediately went into private discussion at the VIP lounge of the Presidential wing of the airport. The Press outside waited curiously for the possible outcome of the talks between the two leaders, a kind of joint press conference, on all issues involved in the Nigeria-Palestine relations.

After the meeting, which was very brief, there was no press conference. Rather, Yasser Arafat inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the 3 Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and departed for Morocco. The whole airport ceremony lasted about two hours and we all returned to the Villa (Aso Rock).

Before leaving the Villa, I decided to cross-check with protocol officials if the Head of State would still be traveling to Burkina Faso to attend the OAU Summit, which was already at the Ministerial Session in Ouagadougou. The advance team of the Head of State's entourage had already left on Friday night. I was to be in the main entourage expected to leave for Burkina Faso on Monday morning, after Abacha would have declared open an International Information Conference expected to begin in Abuja Monday June 8. The Federal Ministry of Information organized the conference. It was normal during General Abacha's regime, that his movement was always kept topmost secret. As a matter of fact, those of us who used to travel with him would not know until few hours to our departure. So was our trip to Burkina Faso. They told me it was still on course.

With that assurance, I drove straight to NICON Hilton, Abuja where I had passed the previous night as a member of the Organizing Committee of the Information Conference. Six o'clock in the morning, Monday June 8, 1 1eft for the Villa, with my luggage to join the delegation to Burkina Faso for the OAU Summit. General Abacha was to head the Nigerian delegation. At the time I got to the Villa everything appeared quite normal. I met some of my colleagues who were also to be in the Head of State's entourage to Burkina Faso. At 7 a.m. that fateful day, we all assembled at the Press Centre waiting for the necessary directives. However, when it got to eight o'clock, and no signal was forthcoming about our movement, we decided to go and have our breakfast and reconvene in the next one hour. At that point everything in the Villa still appeared normal. Various officials were seen in their duty posts doing their routine jobs.

From the Villa, I drove straight to my house, had a quick breakfast, and decided to go through NICON Hilton hotel to inform my colleagues in the Organizing Committee about the uncertainty of our trip. On getting to the hotel, I saw people standing in groups, discussing. But I did not give a thought to their attention. I imagined that some of them were delegates or participants at the conference. So I quickly dashed into my room, returned immediately to the Villa to join my colleagues, to wait for further developments.

On driving to the Villa gate, a new atmosphere had taken over. The first gate had been taken over by new set of security operatives. I was not familiar with virtually all of them, except one Major whose name I could not remember immediately. The Major knew me by name. He was fully in charge of the new security arrangement, dishing out instructions in a very uncompromising manner. Initially, I did not take it as anything very serious. As a well known person in the Villa, I was confident that my entrance was just a matter of time moreso when I was hanging my State House identity card around my neck. All my expectations were wrong as I was bluntly ordered to go back. All explanations and introductions on my mission to the Villa were helpless. The instruction was clear go back! go back! they shouted at all visitors. At that delay many cars had formed long queues. My immediate reaction was to seek the assistance of the Major, whom I had identified earlier, to save me from the tyranny of his men. Before I could approach him he shouted, "Ogbonnaya go back!" While I was still battling to wriggle out of what was seemingly a hopeless situation, I noticed a woman right behind me, almost hysterically screaming, that she had an early morning appointment with the First Lady, Mrs. Maryam Abacha. The woman apparently must be coming from the National Council of Women Societies from her dressing. My shock was the way she was instantly assaulted by those stern looking security operatives. At that point, I quickly got the message; I drove away from the scene as quickly as possible. Though my mind was everywhere but my immediate conclusion was that there was a coup because I could not imagine any other thing that could have caused such a high level of security alert. I therefore decided to drive straight to the International Conference Centre to alert my Director General on the latest development. He was attending the conference as a participant.

At the International Conference Centre, I saw some Ministers standing at the lobby in anticipation of the arrival of Abacha and his team. Immediately they saw me, they became very agitated, and almost simultaneously asked me, "is the C-ln-C already on his way?" I said, "no, I am not really sure he is coming. But let us hope he will still make it". I knew, as a matter of fact, that I had not really provided them with the desired answer, but that was the much I could tell them. While they were still pondering on the uncertainty of my reply, I left and quickly walked into the hall where I met my Director-General, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Michika. He was already seated with other participants. I called him aside. "Sir, I don't really know what is happening in the Villa. I suggest that you leave this place now!" Without betraying any emotion, he quickly asked me what was the situation in the Villa like, I told him all that I saw. I repeated my advice and that I had not been able to confirm what exactly was happening. I then made it clear to him that it was no longer safe for him to continue staying in the conference, and so should quietly take his leave. Alhaji Michika immediately went back to his table, took his pen and papers and followed me out of the hall.

The moment we were outside, I asked him if he came with his car. He said yes, but because of the extraordinary security arrangement put in place in anticipation of the arrival of the Head of State, it was difficult locating his driver. I then suggested that we should use my car which he obliged. I drove him straight to his house instead of the office. Both of us agreed that he should remain at home for the time being, while I promised to keep him informed about the development. This panic measure was as a result of the usual trauma which Radio Nigeria Management Staff often pass through each time there was a military coup d'‚tat in Nigeria. The first target usually is the FRCN Broadcasting House. The management and staff on duty usually pass through hell in the hands of the military boys in their desperate effort to gain entrance into the studios at record time for the usual "Fellow Nigerians" broadcast.

From my Director-General's residence I decided to get to NICON Hilton Hotel to assess the situation there before heading back to the Villa. At the hotel the atmosphere was rather sombre. There were a few cluster of people; some of them who recognized me, rushed and demanded to know what was happening at the Villa. "Orji, is it true that there is a coup at the Villa?", they asked. I said, "well I don't know". At that time, the BBC, CNN and International Media had begun to speculate on the confused situation.

From their countenance I could see they were not satisfied with my answer. They thought probably that I was withholding some information. But they never knew I had none. I felt very uncomfortable. As a reporter covering the State House, I was equally restless that I could not give a valid answer on what was happening on my beat. I recognized too that it was utterly wrong to depend on others for information about events unfolding in my beat. I instantly felt challenged to get back to the Villa. I was equally aware that such an adventure was fraught with a lot of risk. But that is the other side of journalism as a profession.
