@ Ndipe,

If any "purely black" capital has embraced the western culture to the fullest, then Kenya is number 1. I roamed the streets of Nairobi for weeks on end with practically no-one on african attire. The only people i saw the african way were the Masai (like the Cattle Fulani), maybe it's because of the cold or because of the colonization. (The weather conditions there favour europeans, and of course, european interest in Kenya's Unique Fine Tea).

Talk about dressing and everything, it's just IMPORTED! Even in the ghettos, they dress western.

I was lucky to see one or two african dresses in Kisumu, but I felt like an Alien dressing West Africa, and I made more friends in my attire than Mandela made in all his visit to Nairobi ( I mean it!)

The Language is however cool, and many places still bear the traditional names, including malls like Uchumi (Nakumatt is most likely not Swahili) Yaya centre (Sarit is most likely not swahili), the Roads (N'gong road, Kiyumbani. . .), unlike here where we have western Avenue, Broad Street, City Mall, Galleria, Palms . . . (Heavily westernized names). . . and lest I forget, almost everyone I met had an English First name and most could not translate their surnames.

Most Kenyans are so european, they find it hard to catch an african joke. (they need to boot like Pentium 1 before bursting. . . grin)

@ Knowall,

I think Nigeria has 10 times the population of Kenya and not 5. Kenya is the home to HQs of major establishments and organizations and even at that, it's not bigger, or do I say better than Abuja, but one has to confess, NAIROBI (not Kenya) IS BEAUTIFUL and there ain't no way Lagos gon' measure up to that, ever, with all the flowers, the clean roads and what have you. (MUSIC, ZERO! - movies, ZERO all imported) grin

Business / Re: Aliko Dangote Is $2.5 Billion Richer Than Oprah Winfrey by Christino(m): 8:49am On Sep 02, 2007
Hmmn,

Reminds me of Maryam Abacha's comments on the Abacha loot. She said about her last child (the "abisoye" of the family). . .

"Even if the government retrieves all the funds abroad, this small boy can never be AS POOR AS DANGOTE ever again!"

I strongly believe we do not know the richest Nigerians. By the way, I was expecting to hear Abacha, Babangida, Fernandez, Akande, where them dey? grin

@ Dangote haters and Oprah arse-kissers,

Dangote has created more jobs from nigerians than Oprah and has touched my life more than Oprah has done, how on earth does Oprah's wealth affect me? And if Aliko dies, business continues as usual, if Oprah pai today, shey na her Grandma go continue to dey touch my life? grin (Out of point but that's another fact! wink)
Business / Scam E-mails In Circulation (gtb Warns) by Christino(m): 7:25am On Aug 30, 2007
Guys,

Yahoo! Boys are always inventing and re-inventing means of getting your cash, you may have noticed strange "paypal" or "barclays" or "hsbc" account re-authentication mails in your box lately. This is the new YAHOO YAHOO!!!

Here's how it works, you get a mail saying someone tried to access your account simultaneously, from another IP address or some fraudulent transaction was noticed here and there and you need to reauthenticate your account to prevent the bank from closing it. You eventually get a link thus: www.paypal.com/login

This link (if you hover your cursor and check the status bar, you should see the real link, or just right click on the link and click on properties, the scammer's link should be there) is just a replica of the Original, Verified/certified secure (https) page. Should you click on this link and enter such details, they would be sent to the FAT mailbox of the trapmaster.

Be warned!, here's a warning from GTB:

Sports / Re: Nani Or Tevez? by Christino(m): 7:24am On Aug 29, 2007
I always believe a deflected goal should be awarded to the first taker but after Milan beat Liverpool and pirlo's kick was awarded to Inzaghi i had to bend with the new rule. It could be Tevez's goal afterall.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Christino(m): 7:19am On Aug 29, 2007
Same reason why Essien and Malouda refused to train with Lyon till they landed in Stamford Bridge, Same reason SWF left Man City, Same reason Shevchenko left his palace (def. not for money, not for fame), same reason Mikel's issue dragged for so long only to land in Mourinho's pants, Same old reason Terry and Lampard can't leave cos no one else can pay their wages, same reason Chelsea beats almost any club to sign a "costly" player.

Objectively speaking, if a player wins 2 cups and a 2nd place finish in the league in his first season, can we then say it was a bad move? What did Anelka,Berbatov,Kuyt, Johnson, Martins, Adebayor,Tevez to mention but a few, win in their first season? Maybe personal and local awards, definitely not a major trophy.

Roman has "magnetic" billions but he'll get trophies every now and then and that's good enough for a player's Curriculum Vitae, needless to say, some players wouldn't mind sitting on the bench and earning megabucks yet wearing medals on their neck at the end of the day while hard working players like Benni McCarthy have nothing to show but a narrow win over Wenger.

That's 21st Century footie. wink

A husband and wife are watching "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire," and the husband winks and says, "Honey, let's go upstairs, " The wife says no, so the husband asks again. Again she says no. So the husband says, "Is that your final answer?" The wife says yes. The husband says, "Well, can I phone a friend?"

The City Centre, Jomo Kenyatta Av, the Asian Village Market, the Yaya and Sarit Centres, the Hotels, The Canivore, the Fish, Snake and Art Museum, The Uchumi and Nakumatt Shopping malls are very beautiful places, but what about Kawangware? No pictures? Ajegunle? What about pictures from the few universities therein? None? And security? Even worse!

Journalism, bias as usual. Kenya is beautiful, Nairobi and Mombasa, but the most beautiful places in kenya are the tea plantations, the parks and the landscapes.

Karibu y'all.

Sports / Re: Middlesbrough Signing Aliadiere Hits Out At Arsenal's Wenger by Christino(m): 10:33am On Aug 24, 2007
8 years in Arsenal with how many starts?

had martins stayed longer @ Inter would he have started 10 games last season? with the arrivals of Crespo and Ibrahimovic? Face reality man, Martins arrival couldn't stop Roeder from being sacked after ending the season as one of thier worst ever, ironically (maybe due to the crisis though) Inter won the league after years of barreness.

Was Luca Toni ever known for his goal scoring ability? How old is he now? Sure many like you would have labelled him "useless" back in those days.

I always tell people, criticize a player constructively because if you could do half you should be earning megapounds somewhere not sitting at the pc throwing yabs at people slugging it out on the pitch, even if they lash out @ your darling coach. grin No offence o, but Aliadiere is not "Hopeless", let's count the stats come december!
Sports / Re: Middlesbrough Signing Aliadiere Hits Out At Arsenal's Wenger by Christino(m): 8:19pm On Aug 23, 2007
@ A 40,

I remember Kanu's miss @ Westbrom and how faithfuls like you said his career was way past done, but here you are. . . People sha. When you are hot, they up, when you are down, they . . .

God forgive y'all.

It's a different case if you are fighting for Wenger, be objective, i'm not begging you to be optimistic or to turn into a prayer warrior overnight, all i'm saying is a new club is a brand new challenge. Who ever taught Kezman would be a flop @ chelsea? Who ever taught Henry would make it big at arsenal? Ya'll should sit and watch abeg.

Let the goals run the commentary. Shuo!

I just hope you are set to eat your words if the guy scores "ten" by luck? Remember this thread, i'll dig it out and attack you Mercilessly, na then NLs go know say Chris get Craze like you grin
Sports / Re: Middlesbrough Signing Aliadiere Hits Out At Arsenal's Wenger by Christino(m): 6:53pm On Aug 23, 2007
IF you askie me, I prefer a player who assists "better" players to the upliftment of a team than a player who tries more shots than all the strikers in the league and at the end of the league end up without a goal grin (Sorry Okocha, i meant no harm!), that's why I always see Kanu as Nigeria's best bet. If Ali can't find the back of the net, he should let others do, when Drogba was scoring 10 and assisting 14 I felt he was even already fulfilled. I wuda prefered utilility fooballer, Smith to Ali, but since he's there, he should prove himself, and if Dyer went for 8m, and Smith for 6m, I wonder what a Frenchman in his boots would go for shocked

I give him next season to prove himself, but if he must, he should start with assists, abeg, half bread is better than none.

Talking about goals, it's the job of strikers to score goals, agreed, but how many strikers can add up their tally of 3 years to match Lampard's? It's their primary duty to do that but if a MF does better, should the coach bring him forward or discard the others? Of course Ali can't provide the crosses like Downing but assists up front are easier or are they more crucial to goal provisioning. Remember Nicky Butt's goal last season from Martins, that's what I want to see Ali do this season, lots of square roots for Mido or Tuncay. Ali's not good, but we know his fortunes can change elsewhere.

Finally, when a player goes on loan and returns with little or nothing, you know such a player is destined for the exit, like Carlton Cole and co. Even Bellamy on loan was as hot as fire, Ali couldn't do wonders. It's a shame he should stop bragging and prove himself NOW or NEVER, i'm not supporting him, i just hope negative comments such as the heavy whitewashings here will spur him to action and fulfill Mido's wild dreams of pushing Southgate into the top 6 grin
Sports / Re: Middlesbrough Signing Aliadiere Hits Out At Arsenal's Wenger by Christino(m): 7:54pm On Aug 22, 2007
@ Debo,

Ali should net 10 goals this season (Even as a sub cos Tuncay and Mido are fave starters), wanna bet?

Sports / Re: Middlesbrough Signing Aliadiere Hits Out At Arsenal's Wenger by Christino(m): 6:13pm On Aug 22, 2007
Ali may not be crap @ boro afterall, there are two seasons in a season, the first half and the second half. Yakubu is known for scoring 15 goals in the first half while Viduka is surely a late starter. Looking at what happened last season ali scored towards the end of the first and the begining of the second.

Kanu is also a good starter just as i hope Utaka won't run out of steam. Martins also ended the first half of last season on a good note. Tuncay Sanli with all the hype is yet to score a deflected goal while proud and big mouthed Mido scored a lucky goal on his debut. With Ali's pace and hungry strikers in the team Ali should provide assists if not goals and that alone would be okay.

Watch out for Ali against Arsenal, that one is a sure bet. wink

(p:s: if boro sells Yak like I think they would, I don waka be dat)

Cars in Nigeria now zoom d streets with stickers associated with d class d car belongs to. On most jeeps, u see d sticker:"the Lord has lifted me up" On S class, E-class, C-class, Honda & other cars in that category,u see d sticker:"I am the apple of God's eyes". On cars like 504 & other 'tokunbos',u'll notice d sticker:"Touch not my anointed". On cars like d good old Beetle &Panel Vans,u'll see dsticker:"Let d weak say I am strong". Those that can't pass MOT or any other road worthiness test. These cars are simply moving coffins --- they have no brand name & no trace of manufacturers or country of origin. They r more liable 2fall apart any moment. (u may need 2hold d door with ur hand or with a piece of string).Guess what sticker u see on these ones? "Relax, God is in control"

Jobs/Vacancies / Cfwrp Is Scam! by Christino(m): 8:01am On Aug 15, 2007
CFWRP is a Scam!

Yahoo Boys are out to scam Nigerians nowadays, the CFWRP promises jobs in Canada and asks you to pay a specific fee, they have so many fake email addresses and websites and the agent pretends to be a white girl/guy and keep tab on you seriously. They even ask you to scan your international passport to one of their yahoo mail addresses. There was also a similar one with destination China.

Nigerians are usual are usually looking for greener pastures, many have fallen for this, but are ashamed to alert others.

Guys, forget it, there are no jobs for NIGERIANS in Canada except of course by Lottery. Don't be deceived. Most of the people sending you this email are fellow Nigerians based in Guinea, Ghana, Cotonou and environs. Be warned.
