The Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has approved the construction of a 38 million US dollar link bridge between Nigeria and Cameroun


The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, told State House Correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja that FEC also approved the resuscitation and completion of the Kaduna Eastern bye pass highway.

“We presented from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing a memorandum to construct the Cameroun – Nigeria border link bridge at Ekok-Nfu.
“We also presented a memorandum for the resuscitation and completion of the Kaduna Eastern bye-pass Highway which was started in 2002 and was initially planned to have been completed in three years but 15 years after it remains uncompleted.’’

According to Fashola the Nigeria/Cameroun Bridge will cost 38 million US dollars while its supervision consultancy will cost 1.9 million dollars under the AfDB procurement guidelines.

He said that the Kaduna bye-pass would cost N32 billion after approval of a N22 billion variation.

He said that the contractor was paid about N5.5 billion in 2002 adding that if the government had paid in N11 billion then the contract could have escaped the variation.
