PoliticsRe: The Shamefulness Of The Politics Section Hall Of Shame by chromoTop: 7:38pm On Dec 24, 2012
manny4life: Why complain? Have you been lost all this while not to see the overwhelming majority that were against it? Even Mr. Billionaire (one of those I respect their opinions), spoke about it. Some even started several threads, in the complaint section, people were against it and here you are claiming in your first paragraph like a saint. Please, let's leave all this "DEMOCRATIC BULLSH.IT".
Now your voice got stronger to annul the result? quite effective to influence the result than the voting process? right? If you had got to the voting process and cast your vote against the motion, majority should have won. wouldn't it?

I'm glad I did not participate in such bigotry, everyone talks about democratic but have thorough understand or exposure how other democratic systems work. When NL decides to do it, they should do it right.

A year ago is not the same date as today, neither is last week or last month same as today. People's perception, opinions, ideas and what have you revolve and change depending on different circumstance. That is why there's check and balances in the democratic process to checkmate these things "just in case", the faves becomes the worst, others can still express their opinions and views.
well that is actually true, very well suited, that is why people who have voted Achebe into fame chose to vote him into shame. Aiint nothing wrong with the process man! I would vote him in a year ago as the most honorable man living. same as i will vote him today as a shame act. lexis don't work it.

I may like someone today, and be enemies with them tomorrow, should that alter how I'll deal with them in the future? YES, it will because we've changed.

Do you understand what they call a book review? a Memoir review?

you don't have to read a book to get the flow of the writer. A review does that analyzing the strength, weakness and controversy of a book.
Do you some good that put that into your skull and stop jabbing. sad

manny4life: Unfortunately, this is not how our democratic process works. This is the reason why I NEVER participated in such nonsense since it's inception.

In a democratic process, when people are nominated, it's subject to the first vetting process (background information) where the majority decides if to be or not to be. After all said and done, then it's taken to the polls if the majority wins. I've never seen where a nominee is directly put into the polls, it doesn't work like that.
If the process was not stopped when it was announced, it was not stopped when the voting process began, no complaint when the votes were counted, why complain at the outcome?

A year ago when he was voted into the hall of fame, none of this whining was heard. I supposed no of your kind thought you could influence like this. supposing him to be a Yoruba man and this forum a Yoruba one.
PoliticsRe: The Shamefulness Of The Politics Section Hall Of Shame by chromoTop: 6:21pm On Dec 24, 2012
Seun: Thanks.

Thanks, but I think the positive award threads are alright. It's usually nice to praise people who have done good things.

Two wrongs do not make a right. If his book was divisive, we should not compound the problem by promoting more division with the hall of shame.

If Pa Awolowo or Wole Soyinka or Tai Solarin or General Buhari had been selected for the hall of shame, the outcry would have been equally great. Shaming widely respected people for one mistake or the other is simply not constructive.
if Awo, Soyinka or whosoever comes through based on popular vote then it should stand! the people who have criticized Achebe, were those who voted him a year ago into the hall of fame, i dare say people who admired him were a part of the voting process. it takes nothing from him.

I voted for GEJ during the last election. However, I was not concerned because by his selection for the hall of shame because it was less divisive.
divisive stood because sentiments wont be separated from tribalism and common sense. why was GEJ's election into hall of shame less divisive? because there wasn't an Ijaw man to come cry and whine to our ears ? undecided

As far as I can tell, Professor Chinua Achebe hasn't killed anyone. He merely wrote a controversial book. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

manny4life: NO DUDE, the elements of division has always been there - greed, injustice, unfairness, etc.

Division doesn't start all a sudden, something breeds it. If you sow a seed of discord, you will reap division.

I guess Biafrans all of a sudden wanted division without injustice meted out to them?

This Biafra issue has be argued favorably and unfavorable numerous time, I'm not about to engage in it.
And other tribes don't want it as well? LOL, your thought on "Nigerian Unity" is indeed "PERFECT", what can I say.

You talk about ripple effect particularly here on NL is just fuc.king joke. Like seriously, I don't care about whatever the effect is on here. Seriously, let's wuit talking about "ripple effect" like it means some sh.it whereas it doesn't. The people involved in the "ripple effect" circle, are very well known, so why should I honor their words?

Isn't it funny how no one else wants division, yet they encourage discord and claim one side wants it? Therefore, if you claim no one else but Biafrans wanted division till date, I guess that explains the double-sided very well known to you.
Quit going in circles, No tribe whines about neglect like yours. If Achebe must bring the Biafra dream alive in 2012, there are ways to do it. afterall your own adage says there are more than one way to skin a cat. he has chosen what is best for his people and care less of Nigeria.
the bottomline is that Achebe is not a Nigerian. He is a Baifra man. Most unfortubnately, when i loved him and respected him, it was first as a writer, then a Nigerian. And not a Biafra man.
PoliticsRe: The Shamefulness Of The Politics Section Hall Of Shame by chromoTop: 5:32pm On Dec 24, 2012
manny4life: Is it not amazing how you guys claim "cause division", YET, you your thought and action speak otherwise. What other division is he tryna cause that hasn't been there since the Biafran war or perhaps since independence? I guess when the opinion of someone is aired, it is meant to cause division, meanwhile, within ourselves, we want that division.

Of all who inducted him to hall of shame and accuse him of division, are they not same tribal warlords who stir up chaos and ask everyone should go back to their villages? The sooner yall begin to tell the truth for what it is, rather than blanket reality, the better.
Nope dude, within yourselves, you wanted division.

who has been crying for Biafra?

who goes hoisting the Biafran flag on Nigerian soil in 2012?

Achebe well timed his memoir to the exact time certain of you were threatening to secede again. the effect was outstanding. And so is the rippling effect.
PoliticsRe: The Shamefulness Of The Politics Section Hall Of Shame by chromoTop: 4:55pm On Dec 24, 2012
An exact replica of a failed nation, Sadly grotesque. when do we learn that the center no longer holds for any of us- Igbo whinners, Yoruba cowards (perfectly exemplified by seun), and the rest mor.ons- stand -by commedians.
However, it would go down in record that wounds were reopened, tensions flailed, emotions torched because a man- otherwise most respected, chose to put his talent to ill-effect.
I hate it when people say this is just an online forum- You do not need to be told that this forum mirrors what pretense and hatred runs in the Nigerian attitude.
People didn't just come here to have fun. A perfect forum to learn whats happening if you live outside.

logica: So how does having the 3rd largest economy and having nuclear power plants translate into a military force? Even Nigeria is (ridiculously) contemplating building nuclear plants. Are you one of those who ignorantly think nuclear plants = nuclear weapons?
dude you got me rolling on these stuffs you write hear, i bet you you should read over and apply logic to your write-ups. if the two largest economies in the world have a strong military might what stops the third from not having one? you think they are a sorry bunch?
Pitiable as Nigeria's military strength is, on the basis of its economic importance, it constantly participates in regional stability by sending military troops to distressed nations- Of course you should know that.
you only need a map of Japan to tell you why they have such a history of military doggedness.
should you tell me owning a nuclear plant has nothing to do with military might and technological edge over other nations tells a lot about how you value your country. 'ridiculously' your nation is about owning one and Iran is in sh't for owning one.

And on what fact do you write-off a nation (sovereign) as having no military base, force, strength or whatsoever? did the Americans tell you they are recolonizing Japan and wouldn't contain any form of military institution?
you were just told a country is the third largest economy in the world, you think is a fluke? and hey would ride on that without any form of interest protection? undecided
they have nuclear plants buddy, Japanese technology is the most intricate and hideous of all technologies and you write them off?

this is good,i am just kinda wondering why i have to imagine myself reading aloud those arguments and guess when the voice is high, mild or low. letters dont convey much.
i think in debate, the following also helps- the aura of the speaker, his oratory skills, his ability to infuse logic with clear diction, his pauses, suspense, his stringing movement of points, watching how each word drive home his point.wish there is much more - like some voice uploads, then we can love it more.
even Mr. President can write some pretty impressive stuffs, but his voice and aura do not justice to his argument grin.

FRESH AIR!!!!!
Elueme: The issue here is not 2015..rather performance... Boko haram was never an agenda prior to 2011.. Candidates contested and campaigned based on the prevailing circumstances in the country then.. The biggest challenge was fairer electoral system, unemployment, wealth creation, diversification of economy, security( kidnapping and armed robbery).. GEJ in one year has not failed Nigerians.. Our economy is at over 6% growth, we are achieving transparency in the oil sector with the numerous economic benefits, agriculture is booming again after over 40 yrs of neglect, our parents and relatives in the country sides can start smiling, many unemployed youths in urban drift for a white collar job can now take advantage of this new opportunities, Nigeria is set to start making large export of agric produce, power has generally improved all over the country even when the sector has not been fully deregulated.. From barely 1500 nwts in 2010 to 4000mwts in dec 2011 and more power plants are under construction and PHCN has now adopted cost reflective tariff to encourage foreign interest and participation, NERC has challenged every Nigerian who suspects over billing in tariff to petition it( open door policy), from a report I read weeks ago several thousands of foreign interest have registered or are registering to do business in Nigeria at the moment all because of the economic policies of this admin., U-WIN Promo; beneficiaries are currently receiving their benefits with the resultant ripple effects in the e onomy vis a vis employment creation in few years from now... In the area of roads construction, Nigeria has never had it this great in just one year, every zone in Nigeria has one or two or more road rehabilitation or construction some of which are already completed.. Is our electoral system? Infact this alone is enough reason to mk GEJ A live president... For the first time even the opposition was disappointed because their popularity comes from going to court with unnecessary publicity.. Even oshobaba, my own state gov paid a thank u visit to GEJ... Kidnapping and other vices are on the decline .In federal appointed, no region is crying of marginalization . We can go on and on... ALL THESE ACHIEVEMENTS IN ONE YEAR.... Hasn't this man tried? However, we are restrategising on tackling the BH insurgence which was Neva in GEJ blueprint for Nigeria. Soon it will Passover us.. Say amen!

omosexy1: @Chromotop your post shows that you ain't Nigerian, my apologies I thought I was communicating to a fellow country man. On the other hand, Nigerians know their problems and do not think the world is against them. No, Nigerians do not share the same myopic ideologies of other poor African countries (maybe you inclusive) who believes the West is a result of their impoverish situation or is still contributing to their poor state. if you call the crime situation in South Africa normal, then you belong to the same category of people who will live side by side with a disease. While I admire a few African countries (Ghana, Rwanda, Angola, Ethiopia) who have decided to make a change for themselves, I must clearly inform you that Nigerians know their problems but is yet to get answers for them.

omosexy1: Your post shows that you don't travel and keep abreast for Foreign or Africa matters/policies. South Africa is sickened with crime that even the local police is shocked with the statistics. Do you know that you can get rob in broad day light in South Africa. Now that is a serious issue. Add HIV to that. Their president (Jacob Zuma) pays little attention to those issues but goes about marrying new wives and straffing donkeys on skirts. He even told the world that he slept with an HIV positive lady and only washed himself with water. Do you know that the unemployment rate in South-Africa is alarming? Now do you know that the alcohol and coke consumption in South Africa is also alarming and shocking. Oh sorry I forgot, the consumption of Cocaine too is alarming. I don't know much about Ghana, the country seems to be repositioning itself, the last I check they are the fastest growing economy in Sub-sahara Africa (little wonder why Nigeria locals are rushing to Ghana to do business). I probably will have to visit the place to assess their issues and development.

PS- I forgot to add that Nigeria Gas Companies supplies Gas to Ghana to power their turbines for power generation. The same Gas Companies that cannot supply PHCN Power Distribution companies regular gas. (SMH to the issues/diseases in Nigeria)
None of your point shows a people with such deranged thinking as Nigerians. they learn to live with their ills and build from there. the crimes you mentioned are not unusual in other continents too.
only Nigerians and a sizable chunk of Africans believe the world is against them. the world is smarter than waste resources on facts that need no
