Your vehicle is not in their database and you were at the mercy of rogue customs officers who just slammed anything they wanted on you as surface duty.

They will end up sharing a lot vehicles to their cronies when the owners abandon them at the port.

I know someone who abandoned a 2004 c240 for them in the wharf. 2.2m to clear it. Man just left the car and moved on.

the good thing about the new custom duty is that it makes newer cars cheaper. 2002 corolla pays 850k as duty same as 2013 corolla. 2019 Camry now pays a duty of 2.6m as against 4.2m before. So ur 2009 Benz has the same duty as 2019 Camry. But people crying will never say this.

A friend recommended someone to help with tokunbo car in April, I won the bid on iaai site on 19th April.
According to the agent, the car is yet to be cleared by customs since April and has no idea when it would be cleared for shipping.

He also claimed that he's using sallahu shipping line which has a major backlog. Grimaldi was the 1st option but mentioned the car had fuel pump issues and may be rejected by grimaldi so he is using sallahu.

I just want to ask if this make any sense to tokunbo importers. I'm just soo confused with these stories. The fact that it's not even scheduled for shipping is worrisome and he also can't give a time range of when to expect the car. Help ooo biko, make I know how to sort myself instead of waiting endlessly

you shouldn't be worried. Just get the VIN of the car and track it on sallaum website. If it has been received, you have no issues.

Depends on the vehicle.
I got 2.4M for total duty of a 2019 Camry this morning.
Terminal, shipping fees and miscellaneous approx 230k that's like 2.6m total to clear a 2019 Camry.
Which is very very reasonable, and you don't have to worry about short payment or customs disturbing you on the road. On a normal day short payment of this car is 3.5m and normal duty is about 5m
The automated vin value is a very good decision because the value for the vehicles have been reviewed . The problem is with lower cars paying the same duty with 2013 cars, but I guess they are trying to discourage underage vehicles and make people drive newer cars
