http://www.naijapundit.com/news/chairman-of-the-house-committee-on-narcotic-and-financial-crimes-denies-receiving-lawan-s-letter These are not the best of times for Hon. Farouk Lawan who is enmeshed in a monumental bribe for clearance scandal. Lawan, who is accused of extorting a bribe of $600k from Chairman of Zenon Oil, Femi Otedola, to clear his company from culpability in the fuel subsidy probe which committee in the House he chaired had contradicted what he said on Sunday by Monday. On Snday he denied ever collecting any bribe, but by Monday, after Otedol had given an interview on Thisday stating his side of his story, Lawan changed his story and alleged that he did collect the bribe but that he informed the chairman of the House Committee on Narcotics and Financial Crimes of the attempt to bribe him via a letter. But when the Chairman of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs and Financial Crimes, Hon. Jagaba, was contacted to confirm receipt of Lawan’s letter, he denied receiving any letter to that effect. “I am not part of the Ad Hoc Committee on Monitoring the Fuel Subsidy and to the best of my knowledge, I did not receive any such letter of complaint about an attempt to bribe the subsidy committee. I am not aware of anything concerning that transaction (bribery) and my committee is not in possession of such a letter,” he told THISDAY in a telephone interview Monday. Jagaba said that while he could not hold brief for Lawan, it would be important for Nigerians to look at the issue on its merit. According to Jagaba, the subsidy report unveiled monumental corruption in the management of the subsidy scheme and should not be undermined because of the bribery allegation against the committee. |

Okorocha Rehabilitates Onitsha Road Industrial Layout 27 Feb 2012 Font Size: a / A 2401F04.Rochas-Okorocha.jpg - 2401F04.Rochas-Okorocha.jpg Imo State Governor, Mr. Rochas Okorocha By Chinazor Megbolu Imo State Governor, Mr. Rochas Okorocha, had begun the facelift of the moribund Onitsha Road Industrial Layout (ORIL) near Owerri. The Chief Executive of the State said that this was in line considering the level of success recorded in the turning around of other collapsed state enterprises in the area, and would be done through an inter-ministerial committee set up by the Governor. In a statement made available to THISDAY, he said that the layout is a sprawling 277 hectares with capacity for over 280 industries located along the Owerri-Onitsha road, near Owerri. According to him, “ORIL must work again and that government will do everything possible to resuscitate and bring back business activities in the layout to create employments and raise the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of the state just as it has done in the Adapalm and Avutu Poultry ventures, which are now privatised and being resuscitated by core investors”. However, Chairman of the Committee and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Nick Opara-Ndudu said the layout, which formed a strategic part of Owerri Capital Development Masterplan over the years “had been abandoned by previous governments”. Continuing, he added that “due to the present administration’s preparedness to restart and consolidate every aspect of development in the state, the Governor had to set up the committee to look at the scheme and advise on the best ways to put ORIL to use in the interest of the state”. Opara-Ndudu decried the height of vandalisation on some of the infrastructures in the Layout and the inability of some plot owners in developing their lands for businesses to thrive in the State. Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Snow White Limited, one of the surviving industrial outfits in the layout, Mr. Henry Oguoghamba, reacting to the chairman’s remarks, thanked the government for setting up a committee to help revamp the Industrial layout. He, however, condemned the neglect of the layout by previous governments and expressed hope that the present administration would alleviate the problems suffered by the industrialists in the layout. Oguoghamba listed some of their challenges to include poor access roads, lack of functional police post, water, power, and multiple taxation. “There are multiple taxes charged randomly by government agencies, most of whom have over-lapping functions. The Local Government authorities use touts to force the industrialists to buy emblems and youths from host communities are fond of harassing us,” he said. In his view to realising the target of government in resuscitating the layout, Oguoghamba suggested that the president of the Onitsha Road Layout business association be co-opted into the committee set-up by government. The Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Ms. Chioma Ogoke, also decried the sorry state of infrastructures and the undeveloped plots in the layout. She pointed out that the problem of undeveloped plots was as result of allocation of plots to non-industrialists. On the multiple taxation issue, she noted that her staff had been warned not to collect any revenue from the industrialists in the layout because of the challenges already being grappled by industrialists in terms of cost of production. The Director General of Imo State Investment Promotion Agency (ISIPA), Mr. Chinedu Okpareke, who is also the Committee’s Secretary and has been championing the cause for the revamp of ORIL for almost two years, applauded Governor Okorocha for his concern and commitment to the cause in the sector. As part of his rescue mission in Imo State, Governor Okorocha had during his recent ‘State of Imo Address’ made it clear that “industrialisation is paramount to his promise to Imo people |

MAN Frets over Kaduna Firms’ Relocation Plans 27 Feb 2012 Font Size: a / A Bomb-Blast-2602.jpg - Bomb-Blast-2602.jpg Boko Haram Bomb attack in Kaduna From John Shiklam in Kaduna The Kaduna state chapter of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) has expressed worry over plans by some companies to relocate from Kaduna; following activities of the Boko Haram sect. Executive Secretary of MAN in the state, Alhaji Hahib Shuaibu, disclosed his fear in an interview during a workshop organised by the Institute of Directors (IOD) for chief executives of private organisations in Kaduna. Shuaibu said if the companies are relocated from Kaduna, it would have serious consequences on the people and the economy of the state. According to him, some expatriates were planning to relocate their industries outside Kaduna and the North as a whole because of the activities of the Boko Haram sect and the insecurity in the North. “Most of the expatriates are afraid. I know of companies who said they are scared of these Boko Haram attacks and were planning to relocate to safer places outside the North. “You know the most affected by the Boko Haram activities is the Northern part of the country. If they relocate, this will have very serious consequences on the economy of Kaduna state and the North as a whole. But we are trying to persuade them not to relocate and we are encouraging the government to do better in terms of security,” he said. Besides, he also lamented the poor power situation at the Kakuri industrial area, saying that most industries in the area were operating below capacity. “Even with the textile revival fun, only three textile companies are functioning. In a nutshell, the textile sector is not doing well in Kaduna. Presently only 3 out of about 13 textile companies are functioning. “At the federal level, a lot of companies benefitted from the CBN textile revival fund, but the state government has not been doing well. For instance, the issue of this independent power, the former administration in Kaduna state got MAN involved in it. But now they appear reluctant about it, I don’t know whether they are doing some other things, but they are slowing the project” he said. |
ABA GO AGBA OTO LIFE CHEYYYYYYY |
its amazing how the sack of 8 people (Bank MDs) led to the sack of over 20,000 Nigerians from the banking industry. this is pure leadership test. food for thought |
this is one of the few well written articles i have read this year, most especially from the corner i least expected it. come to think of it, the prediction by Goldman Sachs that Nigeria will not survive 2015 looks real , considering the fact that some of these Northern people are also nurturing the same idea. After watching the video of the police man that just died in kaduna and many more of such lives that have been wasted. i totally support the motion. let the SNC ceremony begin ![]() |
anyway gals re unpredictable, u cant rule out totally the fact that she is not buying time to explore other options available to her. when it come to relationship and marriage i don't usually trust that a woman is 100% saint. though she might be right as to distance, but she should equally consider that marriage processes takes some time such that she can allow you to at least see her parents after which other things can follow. that gives you the assurance that she is for you. this is because, a :os we talk now, there is no commitment oo and any thing can happen |
the kanuris dont like 70 virgin offer but allah lol |
its a pity that guyz can go at ant length to secure victory not minding the cost implication |
its like u need to disclose d whole matter to dose assumed victims. |
sometimes i even wonder why we dont criticise Imams that go about promoting terrorism, one in Niger state married about 87 wives. is it because we re afraid of moslem violence or we dont seem to notice anything absurd about them |
i think this issue of Men of God should not be a problem of anybody, those guyz did not force u to go to church, they did not force u to give offering and pay tithe. i don't understand how some people will prefer to drink panadol on another's headache. if u dont like the way these men of God re going their business, either u start ur own and model it rightly for us appraise and admire or u stop attending their services and giving offering. Also note that these MOGs re men before -of God- suffix is put to their name, meaning they re not above mistakes. i dont think u need abuse somebody in other to correct that person. i sincerely wish the likes of Beaf can stop abuses any time they re presenting brilliant ideas. the guy is good but some times the way he abuses people makes me weak ![]() |
