Lol. I love the way you constructed this statement "the house he built" instead of his "mother's house". That should obviously give him the boldness to relocate.

Anyway, the advice you condemn so much is meant to shape is planning skills. I would have expected his mom or brother to help out at this stage, at least with moving to a cheaper apartment in Lagos, where he could stay and keep hustling. But of course, they're probably not in the best position financially to help and that leads me again to the issue of his planning skills.

The emboldened statement reeks of ungratefulness

Pls tell me,do we have responsible goverment in this country? What we have is a totally defective system where the people have lost every iota of trust in the system and would you blame them?

Nigeria is a lawless country not by default but by the manifest iresponsibilty of government. If you have laws in place with enforcement, people will naturally fall in line and there would be order.

If the problem of incompetence is sorted at the top, dealing with those at the bottom would be easy.
Please don't just stretch this argument. Unless u are not being truthful to yourself!
The average Nigerian will never adhere to simple instructions. When people fail to queue up at ATM, fail to renew car papers, fail to obey traffic light, how do u blame government for such? Same case is playing out in this fire incident & it got nothing to do with government! Let's take responsibility for once as a people & stop blaming government for everything! It's sickening!
Have u taken time to watch America documentaries on YouTube? U need to & see how their citizens also help government. A stubborn child will always find a way to blame his/her parents, that's our case.

There was a huge fire in a fuel station with explosions and what do you expect, people should sit their arses at home in the name of lock down when disaster is lurking right in your backyard. This incident happened quite a few blocks from where I stay, though I wasn't home.

This is typical naija for you and it could happen anywhere. Real physical social distancing will be very difficult to achieve in Africa and even more so in one of the most densely populated city in the world.

This is still a pointer to the manifest failures of the goverment. The system has failed everyone and will continue to.What you see there is palpable fear in the people thinking the fire could raise down the whole neighborhood, though misplaced,I must confess.Abule Ado still readily comes to mind.

Goverment should make laws and enforce them,if laws are in place and appropriate sanctions applied to deviants, everyone would fall in line. But what do we have, lacuna everywhere due to iresponsibilty of government
.

grin abeg o! Somebody made away with a red 2008 Range Rover sport from the car lot next to the fuel station while trying to evacuate the cars during the fire, abeg we dey find am.This is no joke!!
Don't u people ever get tired of blaming government for everything? How is government responsible for this? Smh

Uncle, go and hustle or give your pants over to your wife and stop complaining

I think that will be good for those who can flex their financial muscle very well not for kobo kobo build as Alhaji will say. But doing short lintels internally too is not structurally bad if you can't afford to chain all . But most importantly roof beam is very essential.
Is the bold more essential than chain lintel?
Why is everyone always talking about chain lintel and none is talking about this roof beam

It is mostly wasting your resources, sorry. The first and foremost thing employers are looking for is actual work experience and competence. The qualifications are great, but they are really just icing on the cake.
What kind of a person are you?
Someone spending money to develop his/herself is wasting of resources?
Do you think it is every undergraduate that will end up working with their degree? I have rev. Father doing phd, another doing masters? There is never a limit to self development.
Your level of reasoning is myopic sorry to say

My job pays me 200k / month
My side hustle gives me 500k / month

I am not going anywhere in my job, so I am investing in certifications and training. These are not a guarantee of anything, other than hope.

Unless my side hustle is not sustainable, why should I continue to burn my energy on a job, when I can burn it on a side hustle and move to the next level?

What i am inferring is that you can afford to do this because your job is not taking your energy per se.

Dear It is called self development
The current governor of cross river is currently doing his masters in law, likewise so many similar cases.
People have first degree without job and they are doing masters, people have Msc without job and they are doing Phd, it is called self development.

I don't know how someone thinks he can decide which job is major or side hustle. They way people elevate white collar jobs and look down on other jobs which might even be more lucrative is funny.

Honestly, to think everyone is preaching multiple streams of income as the only way to meet up in this dwindling economy of ours & we still have people who think having a career in a mere paper called CV is shocking to say the least...lol

Or am I missing something here?

Lol

An uber driver starts 5am, some 4:30am and closes 9pm...Some stay as late as 11pm

They do this six times a week. So can you tell me when such a person enrolls, and prepares for his exams?

You have no idea what these people driving are committing in terms of energy, zeal and strength

You really don't have any idea
Professional certifications are different from degree courses, the duration and time is different. When you enroll for a certification, you should make out time and reduce your working hours when it is time to take exams. You should be able to save enough for the period of your certification exams. It is very simple, i have done it several times and all it requires is planning.

you are echoing the exact same thing i am saying. your cloth importation is a side hustle. it is unlikely it will ever be a major source of income for you. you will not leave your job to engage in it fully especially as your job is probably financing it , and you will not entertain any delusions that it is anything more than a supplementary income stream.

that is what nitigrit is saying in a nutshell. do not think of uber as a permanent, full time source of income. think of this as something to tide you over while you look for the real job or sustainable business.

incicentally, this is the same problem mtn call center operators have. it is always made clear this cannot and will never be a full time job, but people get comfortable, and then upset when they have to leave.

make of it what you will.
@bold unfortunately it is my major source of income and it is responsible for financing all the certifications i have done. My so called career is yet to give me something tangible

Good. You sell clothes as a side hustle

If I want to be an accountant, or grow in this career, would you advise me to sell clothes, or would you advise me to enroll in a professional course?

You obviously didn't follow this gist from the beginning.
You are the one twisting the conversation
Does selling clothes stops you for enrolling in professional courses?
Do you think because i am selling clothes i have neglected enrolling for professional related certifications?
The last certification i did cost me 266k and the money came from my importation trade.
Or you think to enroll for professional certification is free? If not for my importation trade where would i have gotten the 266k?

A cv is a tool to introduce yourself to your employer.
A company profile is a tool to introduce your self to your potential clients

I am writing this because what I wrote went completely over your head.

If you know a venture ( job, partnership, collaboration, startup etc)where you can point to experience with Uber as a clear competitive advantage, please let us know

The way you guys reason amaze me
Seems it is a war against uber drivers, that is the only thing i can deduce from your post.
I am an accountant, i import ladies designers & wears to sell at wholesale prices, do u think i included it in my CV? & Do u know what i make from it? So because it is not in my CV it is of no value? This is kinda funny tho lol

I was with my employer for 14 years. We had a strong union. When I was let go, I was given an ample severance package that allowed me to measure my options. A colleague in a different part of the company, higher paid but not unionised was laid off in 2016 or so. All he got was one months salary as severance. I met him a month later, driving uber. He is probably working now. Where will uber fit in his cv?

A cv is about relevant experience for a position. Unless you somehow intend to apply as senior driver in a company, your uber driving experience is irrelevant.

One of the reasons why the rates are not that good is uber is not intended to be a full time job, but a side hustle for extra money.

My two cents.
You guys should stop making issues out of nothing & drop this CV talk. We have doctors, lecturers, lawyers practicing their respective profession, but they are investing in lands, real estate, cryptocurrency etc. Some even buy cars for uber on HP or rental. I am sure these things aren't included in their CV? Something is not included in someone's CV doesn't make it useless or non profitable. U only include things that are in line with your career & suit the job u wish to apply for in your CV, that doesn't mean u don't have other things on the side that are even more useful to u than what u have on CV.
