Onnoghen: My life is under threat, says ex-Buhari aide, Dennis Aghanya
Published January 19, 2019

The Executive Secretary, Anti-Corruption and Research- Based Data Initiative, Dennis Aghanya, has raised the alarm over threats to his life following his petition against Onnoghen for failing to declare five bank accounts with about $3m.

The former media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari told Saturday PUNCH on Friday that a number of people have asked him to disown the petition against the CJN for a huge amount of money.

He said those behind the threats were “the people who are telling Nigerians that the petition does not have merit.”

He declined to identify the people making the threats.

Aghanya said, “Since this petition came to light, they have been sending friends and families to me and at the same time issuing threats. They are giving me two options: If I don’t accept, I would go down six feet. If I mention the amount they are offering, it is something a hungry man would accept, something they cannot resist, big money, as much as a billion naira.”

According to the activist, those faulting his action should instead encourage the CJN to defend himself at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

He stated that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, did the right thing by ensuring the prosecution of Onnoghen for concealing five domiciliary accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

He dismissed arguments that the petition did not follow due process, noting that Nigerians should be concerned with the facts and evidences presented on the case “instead of leaving substance to chase shadow.”

Aghanya again denied that the petition against Onnoghen was politically-motivated, noting that many other investigations were also being carried out by ARDI against other government officials whom he declined to identify.

When asked if he feared for his life, Aghanya said, “I’m human, but then, it is God that gives life. Because I am a good Christian, I don’t feel bothered. If I were to be killed, do you know the kind of enemies I have had to contend with since I was born? The enemies would come, they would rise, do all sorts of things, but if God is with you, all those things would be in vain.”

PoliticsRe: Osinbajo Reveals Persons Buhari Will Jail by CioAngels(f): 9:00am On Jan 28, 2019
MediaLife:
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, says the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will jail more corrupt Nigerians if re-elected.

NAN reports that Osinbajo spoke on Sunday during his house-to-house campaign in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State.

He said grand corruption, which plagued the 16 years administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contributed to the lack of infrastructure for Nigerians.

Osinbajo said the Buhari-led APC government would focus on jobs for youths, power and providing enough resources to financially empower petty traders and business owners.

PoliticsRe: JUST IN: Aisha Buhari Speaks On Condemning CJN's Suspension by CioAngels(f): 6:46pm On Jan 27, 2019
PoliticsNigeria:
@POLITICSNGR

The Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has denied condemning the recent suspension of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen.

PoliticsNGR learnt that Mrs Buhari in a statement through her Director, Information, Mr Suleiman Haruna, on Sunday in Abuja, described the news making rounds that she condemned Onnoghen’s removal as fake.

”The attention of wife of the President has been drawn to a post on social media to the effect that she condemned the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

”It is important to inform Nigerians that wife of the President has not made any public statements on the matter and therefore the commentary is untrue and fake.

“This is highly condemnable and we, therefore, advise the purveyors of such news to recant and desist henceforth,” the statement added.

The former CJN was suspended by the Federal Government following a recommendation of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The suspension order was executed to enable the tribunal to hear and determine the allegations of false asset declarations filed against Onnoghen by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

PoliticsRe: Give Reasons Why Sowore Should Be President by CioAngels(f): 10:25pm On Jan 17, 2019
nextstep:
Nigerians youths: you have the power to elect this man.
If all youths from 18-39 vote for Sowore, and older people split their votes for Buhari or Atiku, Sowore will win. There are way more than you than any older group in Nigeria right now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Nigeria

Roughly speaking, if you consider only people of voting age, I've estimated using the above chart that youths 18-39 are about 62% of the voting population, while 40+ are about 38% of the voting population. Use your numbers wisely and take the power you deserve.

Nigerian youths: the older generation has been taking you for granted, stealing your destinies, yet turning around and abusing you, calling you lazy when they are the ones who stole your future.

Nigerian youths: you have a choice, stand up and vote in new leadership that will take you far, or vote for the same recycled ones that will continue to retard your possibilities. The current leaders grabbed power in their late 20s and 30s. You can either prove that you are indeed lazy, or that you have what it takes to sock them out of power.

France's Macron, Canada's Trudeau, Ethiopia's Ahmed Ali, Liberia's Weah, are showing the way, yet you are being told to choose between two people who were in their 40's before you were even born.

ps. I'm in my 40s, so I'm not a youth. This is a unique chance for Nigerians to change levels.
Meanwhile, Nigerian youths are bad mouthing him rather than team up with him to take youths out of bondages. All the youths who applied for DPR job, how many of the merit passed were employed, they are not employed because they don't have money to pay to get employed, they are not politicians children, the are not fulani elite children, they are not Hausa elite children, they not the influential rich peoples children, yet, same youth are routing to vote same government that don't care about them. The youths that are considered lazy youth with their suffering to feed without their government input. Vote for Sowore. Tell me, who is a good politician that can stand and say he or she is better than SOWORE?

BREAKING: Another Faux Pas! Buhari Hands Over APC Flag To 'Our Governortorial Candidate

Buhari was to hand over the party's flag to the Delta State governorship candidate of the party. However, he said: "I am handing over this flag of honour to our presidential candidate." When the man to his left corrected him, saying "gubernatorial", Buhari responded with "to our senatorial candidate". Again, the man corrected him, saying "gubernatorial". This time, Buhari said: "governortorial candidate".

One day after erroneously claiming at a campaign rally to have ascended power on May 19, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday committed another error at a campaign rally.

Speaking on Wednesday at the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State, Buhari had told the crowd: "I assure you that I am very aware of your appreciation of the efforts for what we were able to deliver since came in 19th of May, 2015."

On Thursday, at the end of his speech after another presidential campaign rally in Warri, Delta State, Buhari was to hand over the party's flag to the Delta State governorship candidate of the party,

However, he said: "I am handing over this flag of honour to our presidential candidate."

When the man to his left corrected him, saying "gubernatorial", Buhari responded with "to our senatorial candidate".

Again, the man corrected him, saying "gubernatorial". This time, Buhari said: "governortorial candidate".

EducationRe: NANS To Presidency - "We'll Not Vote In This Coming Election" by CioAngels(f): 11:45am On Jan 17, 2019
Jason555:
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to boycott the 2019 general elections if the Federal Government fails to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

At a one-day conference today organised by Online Publishers Association of Nigeria with the theme: “Free Press and objective reporting in the 2019 election year.”, the chairman of the Abuja chapter of NANS, Mojeed Omolaja, stated this.
Omolaja also distanced the FCT chapter of NANS from the faction of NANS led by one Akpan Daniels Bamidele, who was said to be a student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The Bamidele-led NANS had visited President Muhammadu Buhari, where he endorsed his re-election.
Omolaja insisted that the NANS officials who paid courtesy call to the President were not fair, adding that the FCT chapter of NANS stood for integrity.

He said,

“We in the FCT here are not part of those who went to eulogise the President; we stand for integrity and anything we get right in FCT will be got right in all the states of the federation because we lead and others follow.
“The Nigerian students will not vote in the forthcoming election if academic activities do not resume in the universities.
“In this forthcoming elections, we the FCT chapter of NANS that controls other chairmen in other states have deemed it fit not to participate in the election until when ASUU calls off the strike, because they can’t be playing with our future.

“Their children are going to school abroad and we are here and they still want their children to come and rule over us with their lackadaisical attitude towards our education.

“It is quite unfortunate that at this point in time students are at home doing nothing.

“The major reason we are at home is that ASUU is on strike and we expect the Federal Government to meet their demands because this incessant issue is a catastrophic setback to the students.

“Imagine somebody spending seven to eight years to finish a four-year programme. It is not done abroad. Is it because our parents don’t have the financial muscle to send us abroad?”

PoliticsRe: Buhari Wasn’t Aware Of Onnoghen’s Trial Until Saturday, Says Osinbajo by CioAngels(f): 5:20pm On Jan 16, 2019
OceanmorganTrix:
President Muhammadu Buhari only got to know about the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Saturday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated.

He also expressed sadness over the trial of the National President of Nigerian Bar Association, Paul Usoro (SAN).

The PUNCH reported that while the CJ had been scheduled to face trial at the CCT over the non-declaration of assets, Usoro is standing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on account of payments received from Akwa Ibom governor for job done.

The Federal Government has, meanwhile, ordered the discontinuation of Onnoghen’s arraignment.

While absolving Buhari of pre-arranging the trial of Onnoghen for non declaration of assets, Osinbajo said Buhari never had any fact of financial misdemeanor involving the CJN until Saturday evening.

He expressed regrets that the CJN had to go through the process. He, however, said Buhari had issued specific instructions that anti-graft institutions should be allowed to do their jobs without any interference.

The Vice President made these clarifications in Abuja on Wednesday during a one-day conference organised by Online Publishers Association of Nigeria, with the theme: “Free Press and objective reporting in the 2019 election year.”

He said, “I must tell you in clear terms that, for President Muhammadu Buhari, his whole approach is that institutions should just do their work.

“I can tell you for a fact that he did not even know about this (CJN trial) until Saturday evening. I don’t feel good about it that senior members of my profession are being tried.

“He did not even know that there was going to be any kind of trial until Saturday evening.

“He had said categorically, ‘Don’t interfere with whatever institutions are doing.’

Sometimes, it has consequences such as we have today, such that people say, ‘How can such an important person be subjected to trial without the Federal Government?’

“But I can tell you without any equivocation that he (Buhari) was not aware.”

EducationRe: ASUU Gives Least Acceptable Conditions To End Strike by CioAngels(f): 12:23pm On Jan 15, 2019
Dannychukz:
To communicate areas of dispute to govt today
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the ongoing industrial dispute will continue except certain acceptable conditions are met.

It said to end the strike, the Federal Government must urgently release additional N50 billion to the N20 billion released earlier for revitalisation fund, show evidence of mainstreaming the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) into the 2019 budget and evidence of the payment of shortfall in salaries.

President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in an interview with The Guardian yesterday, said the union rejected the latest proposal of the government after due consultations with members, pointing out that government’s offer was meagre.

He added that the association’s reservations would be communicated to the Federal Government today at the inauguration of the platform for addressing matters relating to state universities.

Ogunyemi said: “The last time we met with representatives of government, they gave us their proposal and we said we will present it to our members and their reactions to the items of the proposal will be sent back to them within a week. And now, we are almost through with the consultation and we will communicate areas of disagreement to them today.

“They are basically two or three major areas; one is on the revitalisation fund. We presented to them that government owed an outstanding balance of N1.1 trillion in five tranches. But what government eventually proposed is something that is far-fetched. They were talking about N20 billion that will be released in two tranches starting from next quarter, and we felt that will not address the issue at hand. Though they said that they released N20 billion earlier, the N20 billion was to be released in 2017, if they released it in November 2018, it is not the same thing.

“Out of the N20 billion that the government released earlier, we have outstanding N200 billion. So, if government can release N50 billion in addition to the N20 billion released earlier; and the remaining N150 billion can be released on quarterly basis within this year, N50 billion each for the remaining three quarters, then it will show a sign of commitment.”

Additionally, the group demanded that for EAA and shortfall in salaries, government should provide evidence of its promises and give specific information and guidelines to its proposals.

“Although government has shown us a paper authorising the release of N15.89 billion to universities, but universities have not confirmed receipt. As far as ASUU is concerned, it is an issue of ‘once bitten, twice shy,’” he further stated.
