WebmastersWhat I Did That Increased My Client Base In A Month by clara472(op): 4:14pm On Nov 08, 2018
Back in 2012 when I first started e-Brand Promotion I thought I had it all figured out.
Fast-forward to 2018, I was on the verge of bankruptcy! My source for getting clients had dried up.

I tried different digital marketing stunts but It was like I was standing on quicksand. The more I tried to rescue the business, the more I sank deeper.
Then, more out of desperation than strategy, I did something simple on my website which turned out to become extraordinary.

It was a miracle!

This single right move saved my business and transformed it into a thriving enterprise in less than a year.
So far I have done the same thing for a couple of other businesses and they too are getting amazing results.

Find out what I did in this new amazing article of my story from near bankruptcy to success.

InvestmentMan Who Drank Insecticide Over MMM Crash Speaks: "I lost N750,000" by clara472(op): 5:59pm On Dec 22, 2016
https://nigerianewstoday.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/MMM-Logo.jpg

The young intending groom, Adakole, who drank insecticide over the crash of ponzi scheme, MMM, has opened up on his ordeal.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Adakole, a native of Ai Okpe in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State whose wedding is slated for December 28 had invested N300 thousand into the scheme last month and was expecting to get his 30 per cent income before his wedding.

Kole, as he is fondly called, attempted to take his life in Otukpo, Benue State by drinking insecticide, last Tuesday following the news that the ponzi scheme had crashed.

Speaking on his ordeal on a radio programme, Weathering the Storm with Naomi De Diva on 92.1 Vision FM Abuja and monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday, the young man said contrary to the report, he invested N750,000 in the scheme against the N350,000 that was widely reported.

Adakole, who opened up on his predicament during the phone-in programme admitted that he had earlier made profits from the scheme.

He said amid sobs, “I came to Abuja here few months back in preparation for my wedding and my friend introduced me to the MMM thing. He told me about the benefit involved, though I was a bit hesitant about it but he succeeded in convincing me to register under him.

“To be honest, I initially invested 20k into the scheme and I got 30 per cent the following month. The following month, I rendered help of N50k and I still got 30 per cent commission and my full investment back.

“This time, I believed it was real and I decided to increase the money. Before then, my fiancée had warned me against it. So I went to my cooperative to obtain a loan and they gladly gave thinking it was for my wedding. I put in N750k last month, hopping than it would yield 30 per cent income this month only to wake up one morning to discover that my account has been suspended.

“To be sincere, the best option I had then was to take my life, because I had thought of how I am going to face my woman. I didn’t even know when I took the insecticide. It was my guy, Fred who rescued me. My wedding is around the corner, I have been saving the money ahead of the wedding only to end up that way.

“As we speak, I have not set my eyes on my woman. I put off my phone since then because the shame is much. My wedding is 8 days from now and I am confused. I just returned from the hospital. I don’t know what to do.”

Meanwhile, many callers, who phoned in during the programme scolded the young man for attempting to take his life because of money.

Others advised him to get loan from bank for the wedding, while some asked him to put his wedding on hold till January when the scheme might have returned.

HealthMinister Confirms Bird Flu Outbreak In Kano by clara472(op): 3:51pm On Dec 21, 2016
https://nigerianewsnow.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Audu-Ogbeh.jpg

The Federal Government yesterday confirmed the outbreak of a new strain of Bird Flu in Kano State.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Audu Ogbeh confirmed the outbreak at the ministry in Abuja.Ogbeh said the migration of birds from Europe is responsible for the outbreak, “as they stop to rest and feed at Adaeja basin before moving to South Africa”.

Ogbeh said the virus has only affected Kano State and advised farmers to take preventive measures to avoid further spread to other states.
On why there has not been a permanent cure for the virus, he said the constant change in the strain of the virus is responsible for this.

“There is bird flu in Cameroon and in Europe now, they move from Europe to South Africa in the winter, they stop in the Adaeja river basin for days to rest before they move on.

“We don’t have the vaccine yet, we are calling a meeting of all the commissioners of Agriculture to take measures to control it because there is no vaccine yet.

“We are telling farmers to try and take measures to avoid the spread of the disease.
“The strain keeps changes which is why vet doctors have not been able to find a solution to it.

“For now only Kano has an outbreak and we are controlling it, we are making sure there is no movement of chicken from state to state.

“Unfortunately those who lost chickens last year, we have not been able to compensate because we didn’t have money. We are putting some funds together to help them out.”

PoliticsMilitants Now Regrouping In Ogun – Governor Amosun by clara472(op): 3:42pm On Dec 21, 2016
https://nigerianewsnow.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Ogun-State-Governor-Ibikunle-Amosun.jpg

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun yesterday raised the alarm that militants are returning to the state.

Amosun said the militants were not only “regrouping” in boundary communities within the state but also approaching Ijebu-Ode and Ogere – both in Ogun East Senatorial District. The governor spoke when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Maj-Gen Babtunde Oyefolu, visited his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He noted that before the militants were routed, following military’s air and land assaults on their dens in riverine parts of the state, they had sacked various communities, destroyed properties and displaced people.

Amosun hailed the military for its efforts at degrading Boko Haram in the Northeast.

“Everybody would agree that we are winning the war, people are returning home, areas that were under the control of Boko Haram are now free and people are going back home. So, huge commendation for the military.

“When we bring it home here, not too long ago, we had these issues with these criminals. I don’t call them militants, they are just criminals, who took over all our riverine areas, we ran to Mr President and they were sent away.

“What we are hearing is that they are now regrouping, they have moved from where they were sent away from, they are now moving very close to Ijebu Ode towards Ogere.

“Before now, they were in Arepo, Sagamu, Ikorodu but what they are now doing is regrouping and taking hostages around boundary areas.

“It is a very good avenue for me to inform you but we would be ready for them and it is good that I am putting you on notice,” Amosun said.
General Oyefolu lauded the government for supporting the Army, adding that security should be the business of everyone.’

He appealed to the governor to extend his empowerment programmes to officers in the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja met with visiting President-elect of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, behind closed doors

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the relations between Nigeria and Ghana would be deepened during his time as president.

He described his meeting with President Buhari as fruitful, adding that he used the opportunity to introduce himself formally to the president and wished him happy birthday.“I came on a private visit to Lagos on Sunday to participate in The Future Awards Africa 201u and I thought it is proper that I take that opportunity to come to Abuja to pay my respect to the President.

But in the meantime, I have come to introduce myself to President Buhari so that we begin to know each other.

I had the opportunity to say a belated happy birthday to the President. His birthday is an important day in my life because that day is my late mother’s birthday.

We had a very good exchange. We are determined to grow the relationship between our two countries,’’ he added.

Players of the national U-20 team that failed to qualify for next year Africa Youth Championship have cried out over unpaid bonuses due to them.

The team which consists mostly of players from the victorious U-17 team of 2015, were stopped in their tracks by Sudan on a 4-3 aggregate score after losing 3-2 at home in the final leg of qualifiers. However, players of the team informed that they were promised they would be paid their entitlements after the game against Sudan, but since their ouster they have not been contacted. “We had a meeting with the NFF, a day to our final qualifiers against Sudan after we threatened not to honour the game.

At the meeting we were told all our match and camping allowances will be settled after the game. “After the game, which we lost, there have been no communication from the NFF, even though we believe they have received the money from the ministry of sports. The case of the Falcons is just like ours, we were not paid camp allowances, we didn’t get travelling allowances, for the three games we picked up points, we didn’t get our bonuses, how is our case different”? asked a player of the team in a message sent to Owngoalnigeria.com

InvestmentLeave Us Alone, MMM Founder, Sergey Mavrodi Writes Nigerian Bloggers, Journalist by clara472(op): 5:39pm On Dec 19, 2016
https://nigerianewstoday.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/MMM-Logo.jpg

Irked by what he described as bad press against the wonder-bank, Mavrodi Mundial Movement, MMM, its founder, Sergey Mavrodi, has written an open letter to Nigerian journalists, “analysts” and all kinds of “experts” who according to him are guilty of causing unnecessary panic and tension among MMM participants in the country.

Mavrodi who expressed his disappointed about the way MMM is being painted in the media, said emphatically that “MMM will be back in January” while stating that the rumour about the scheme collapse should stop.

Mavrodi’s open letter is coming after a one-month freezing of confirmed “Mavros” notice was sent to MMM Nigeria participants on Dec 12, 2016. Sergey Mavrodi went ahead to describe articles from Nigerians journalists and bloggers as “provocative and worthless.”
His statement read: “Dear journalists, “analysts” and all kinds of “experts”! Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity. Leave us alone and let us work without interference.

I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose?

“In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and “analyses” (I said “worthless” because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: “MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!..” etc.

“Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don’t you care about people at all?

“So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that.

It would have remained a normal, just a part of the usual routine, and might have gone almost unnoticed if it were not for your totally cynical and irresponsible attempts to advertise yourself, create a scandal out of nowhere, and make the most of this news topic in any possible way.

“Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!”

PoliticsEmbattled EFCC Boss, Magu Blocked From Seeing Buhari by clara472(op): 3:52pm On Dec 19, 2016
https://nigerianewsnow.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Magu-EFCC.jpg

The embattled acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has been unable to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari since the beginning of the crisis that engulfed the confirmation of his appointment.

Reliable sources told newsmen on Saturday that Magu had made spirited efforts to see President Buhari in the aftermath of the Senate’s refusal to confirm his appointment. The Senate, on Thursday, had based its decision on a security report by the Department of State Service which accused Magu of abuse of office and corruption. The report by the DSS says Magu’s antecedents and his conduct after his appointment as the anti-corruption czar, made him ineligible to hold the office in full capacity.

The DSS report concludes, “Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption drive of the present administration.”

It was gathered that the embattled EFCC chairman, who is said to be at loggerheads with some members of Buhari’s kitchen cabinet, tried to see the President on Saturday night but his efforts were futile.

Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, handles the President’s appointments and determines, in most cases, who gets to see him.

There have been reports that Magu is involved in a power struggle with the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, and some top aides of the President, who are said to be against his confirmation. The acting EFCC chairman is said to be an ally of the National Security Adviser, Gen. Babagana Monguno.

Magu was conspicuously absent at the Saturday’s wedding of the President’s daughter, Zahra, to Ahmed Indimi. However, other heads of security agencies including the former chairman of the EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, were present at the lunch which held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.

Multiple sources in the presidency confirmed to our correspondent on Saturday that Magu was sighted in the Presidential Villa around 6.30pm on Friday.

While he failed to see the President, Magu attended the Asset Recovery team meeting which holds weekly at the Presidency. The meeting had Vice President Yemi Osinbajo ; the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; the Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, and others, in attendance.

It was learnt that Magu has written a letter stating his side of the story over the allegations levelled against him by the DSS. A source, who said the letter would be delivered to the President during the week, added that Magu defended himself and also detailed his running battles with some of the president’s closest aides.

Magu, it was gathered, had wanted to issue a statement through the agency to respond to the DSS allegations, but later had a change of mind.

Meanwhile, this newspaper gathered that the confirmation crisis had polarised the President’s cabinet.

A source in government told one of our correspondents that some ministers who are in support of Magu visited the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Senate session on Thursday. The source said the ministers tried to prevail on Saraki to ensure that Magu was confirmed. Saraki was said to have told them that he did not have the sole power to confirm the EFCC’s acting chairman.

Some ministers who are however staunchly against Magu reportedly reached out to the senate president and urged him not to make the mistake of ensuring Magu’s confirmation or it could come back to haunt him.

He can only be reconsidered if DSS clears him — Senators

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has said that the senate may review its decision on the acting chairman if he clears himself of the allegation contained in the security report on him.

Anyanwu, who spoke on Saturday, said, “The presidency has the right to present him for screening again if it is satisfied that the allegations against him in the report are baseless. The senate will do its constitutional duty by adequately investigating petitions against any nominee so that a wrong person will not be appointed.

“Mr. Magu should clear himself of the allegations leveled against him otherwise senate will refuse to screen him if Mr. President should forward his name again,” he said.

Asked if the senate would reconsider the nomination of Magu if Buhari re-presented him, Senator, Sunday Ogbuoji (Ebonyi South), said it was up to the executive.

He said, “The business of the legislature is to screen and confirm nominees but before we do that, we first of all do background checks and these background checks are carried out by institutions authorised by our constitution which in this case, is the Department of State Services.

“The DSS gave us a report upon which we based our decision. If he (Ibrahim Magu) is re-presented, it means they have sorted out their issues at the executive level and a report will so say.”

The lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Adesoji Akanbi, said the implication of the rejection of Magu by the legislature was that he would cease to be the acting chairman of the EFCC.

Akanbi said, “For how long is he going to act? His name was nominated and had been rejected. And the reason for the rejection is not biased; it was based on the information made available to the Senate.”

“It is not over yet. The President can re-present him. By then, he would have filed his defence and communicated it to the senate. The President can re-present Magu to the senate even as much as four times if he chooses to. But before he can do that, the clog in the wheel of Magu’s nomination and legislative approval must have been addressed.”

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, while speaking to our correspondent on Saturday, said the upper chamber of the National Assembly, being the lawmaking arm of the government, would not be responsible for the interpretation of the law.

Abdullahi said, “By our democratic arrangement and structure, whatever we do and whatever the executive does are subject to interpretation by judiciary. If anybody is aggrieved with it, we have done our own part and I can only comment on what we do in our work and how we do it.”

Speaking on the same matter on Friday, lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, had called for the replacement of the embattled acting chairman.

According to the lawyer, the issues raised in the DSS report cannot be overlooked. The legal expert noted that with the various allegations against the EFCC acting boss, it would not be proper for him to continue to head the agency.

He said, “We cannot have such weighty allegations of corrupt enrichment hanging over a man who is to investigate and prosecute others.

“Prior to Mr. Magu’s appointment, a serious allegation of corruption was made against his predecessor in office, but we have never heard of any effort made by the EFCC since Magu took over, on that case.”

https://nigerianewstoday.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Shehu-Sani.jpg

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district has said that he has been personally impressed by the performance of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.
Ibrahim Magu’s confirmation as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC was on Thursday rejected by the Nigerian Senate for indicting security reports.

But Mr. Sani on Friday said “Magu is doing a good job as the Boss of the EFCC. All that is needed is the rule of law and fundamental human rights elements which need to be strongly observed by the commission, rule of law remains the most potent weapon in the fight against corruption”.“I remained respectfully bound by the majority position of the Senate on the issue, but wish to categorically and unambiguously state that I’m personally impressed with his performance”, he stated on his social media account.

He, however, called the attention of Nigerians to fabricated, concocted, mischievously assembled statement credited to him by those opposed to Mr. Magu’s confirmation, trying to use his name to strengthen their position.

The Cross River State government is subsidising prices of foodstuff, such as rice, tin tomatoes, groundnut oil and sweet corn, by as much as 40 percent .

The subsidy on the foodstuffs, which is already drawing traffic from even neighbouring states to the Tinapa Free Trade Zone where the foodstuffs are being sold, is the first of its kind in the state according to some residents.A bag of rice that goes for between N22,000 and N25,000 in the open market is being sold at N15,000 in Tinapa.

Also a pack of tin tomatoes that sells for N9,000 in the market is being sold at N6000 in Tinapa.

Sweet Corn and groundnut oil is being sold are N8,000 and N7,000 repectively as against N11,500 and N11,000 in the open market.

Commsioner for Finance, who also doubles as the Manging Director of Tinapa Free Trade Zone, Asuquo Ekpeyong Jnr., said the subsidy on the foodstuff was to enable citizens celebrate the Christmas with their families despite the economic condition in the country.

Ekpeyong said: “The Governor, Senator Ben Ayade decided to subsidise the cost of food stuff in this yuletide season to enable the people of Cross River State celebrate with their families whether they are indigents or not.

“We reduced the cost, working with the operators by paying off some of the cost of the goods up to 40 percent.”

Foreign AffairsJammeh Must Go When Term Ends – UN by clara472(op): 1:12pm On Dec 15, 2016
https://nigerianewstoday.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Jammeh.jpg

President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia will not be allowed to remain head of state if he refuses to go after his elected term ends next month, the top United Nations official in West Africa said on Wednesday.

Reuters also quoted the UN official as saying that Jammeh would face “strong sanctions if he clings to power.”
Jammeh, who took power in a coup in 1994, initially conceded defeat in the December 1 election to Adama Barrow, raising the prospect of an end to 22 years of autocratic rule tainted by allegations of widespread human rights abuses.

But in a dramatic about-face that drew international condemnation, Jammeh then rejected the voting results last Friday, and his party is now challenging the outcome at the Gambia’s Supreme Court.

“For Mr. Jammeh, the end is here and under no circumstances can he continue to be president. By that time (January 18), his mandate is up and he will be required to hand over to Mr. Barrow,” Mohammed Ibn Chambas, U.N. Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, told Reuters.

He said Jammeh would be “strongly sanctioned” if he did not step down and hand over power to Barrow, without giving details.

Chambas accompanied a delegation of ECOWAS presidents including President Muhammadu Buhari to Gambia on Tuesday but failed to reach a deal that would see Jammeh step down.

Instead, Gambian soldiers seized the headquarters of the national elections commission and sealed it off just hours before the presidents touched down in the riverside nation.

The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon said on Wednesday that the takeover was an “outrageous act of disrespect of the will of the Gambian people.”

Asked whether military intervention was an option in Gambia if mediation failed, Chambas said: “It may not be necessary. Let’s cross that bridge when we get there.”

The building in the capital Banjul remained deserted on Wednesday aside from two armed security guards. Its front gate and ground floor entrances were closed.

“No one has gone to work. I didn’t even try. No one has informed me that I can go back,” elections commission chairman, Alieu Momarr Njai, said on Wednesday.

The ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction filed a challenge to the election result, even as the delegation held mediation meetings on Tuesday.

“We do not believe it will be heard by a credible court dedicated to ensuring the integrity of The Gambia’s democratic process,” a U.S. Embassy statement said.

PoliticsImmigration To Increase Price For International Passport by clara472(op): 12:24pm On Dec 15, 2016
https://nigerianewsnow.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/International-Passport.jpg

The cost of acquiring a Nigerian international passport is set to rise in the next couple of days, as the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, yesterday, said it had commenced the process to review its charges.

According to the service, it is no longer possible to produce the passports at the current rates. Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. Muhammad Babandede, disclosed this at the flagging off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology, ICT, for Immigration officers, organized in conjunction with Huawei Technologies Company, in Abuja. The ICT training programme, according to Managing Director, Abuja Office of Huawei Technologies, Mr. Tank Liteng, is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, and had been carefully designed for 500 staff of the NIS for a period of five days in batches of 50 officers per training time at nine different locations across the country.

Liteng expressed optimism that the programme would empower officers of the NIS with appropriate ICT skills, awareness and soft skills that give competitive advantage globally to catch up with the world trends, change Nigeria into the ICT talents centre of the region and the world. Commenting on the plans to hike the charges for the issuance of the Nigerian passport, Babandede, who did not disclose the take-off date for the new charges, stated that the NIS had written to the Presidency on this issue, and as soon as it receives approval, it would proceed with the review, which would also enable it to deliver better services. He further warned that if the prices were not reviewed, its revenue to the country would be negatively affected.

He said: “It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed.

A nurse at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent, who gave a patient a bible she did not want and spoke about religion with patients has been dismissed by the hospital.

Sarah Kuteh received repeated warnings over the ‘unwanted discussions’ but continued to talk about religion with people.Kuteh said she sees preaching as part of her job because she helped people fill out questionnaires that included a question about religion.

However, she said she was not going to let the matter lie low. With the help of the Christian Legal Centre, she is taking Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust to tribunal for unfair dismissal.

Mrs Kuteh believes her sacking from Darent Valley hospital in Dartford, Kent, was ‘disproportionate and punitive’.

Adamawa Government is considering a temporary review of the use of hijab —the head covering worn by Moslems in public places—in areas prone to insecurity as part of measures to contain suicide bombers.

Commissioner for Information Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, told reporters in Yola yesterday that the decision was taken at an emergency security meeting over Friday’s twin explosions in Madagali market that led to the death of scores.Sajoh said Governor Muhammadu Bindow would meet with members of Adamawa Muslim Council and other stakeholders to discuss the possibility of taking that temporary measure, adding that those that carried out the Madagali suicide attack wore hijab.

Sajoh said the meeting also underscored the need for people to be more vigilant during this festive period and in places like markets, motor parks, churches and mosques.

“We also resolved at the meeting, based on security recommendations, to assist members of vigilance groups in the areas in view of their contribution to security agencies”, he added.

The commissioner said victims of the attack were responding to treatment in Michika General Hospital that the governor had directed all health personnel in neigbouring Hong and Mubi Local Governments to move to the affected area.

“The state emergency management agency has also been directed to give urgent support to victims and relations of victims.”

Twin explosions have hit Madagali in Adamawa State, with scores feared dead, witnesses said Friday.

The attack occurred at a busy market early Friday. Details of casualties are still expected.
Madagali lies some 276km from the Adamawa State capital, Yola.

The town, which is close to neighbouring Borno State, was one of several others held by Boko Haram at the height of the group’s brutal insurgency.

The latest blast is the third in Madagali, following attacks by two female suicide bombers on December 28, 2015, at a busy motor park.

Thirty people were killed in that blast and 16 were injured.

PoliticsExposed: Senate Uncovers N2.5bn Fraud By Buhari’s Committee ( Read Details) by clara472(op): 7:53pm On Dec 07, 2016
https://nigerianewstoday.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/hause-of-senate.jpg

The Senate has queried why money meant for the IDPs were diverted by the presidential committee on North-east.

The Senate has uncovered fraud to the tune of N2.5billion allegedly perpetrated by the Presidential Initiative on the North-east (PINE).PINE was constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the reconstruction and rehabilitation of north-east destroyed by Boko Haram.

The alleged fraud was uncovered by the Senate ad hoc committee, on Tuesday, December 6, during a public hearing on its probe into the alleged diversion and mismanagement of funds for the humanitarian crisis in the region, The Punch reports.

The public hearing, which was held at the National Assembly complex, Abuja also had representatives from north-east states as well as some federal government agencies officials.

Following the enquiries made by the senators, PINE couldn’t account for N2.5 billion it received for execution of intervention projects in the region.

Daily Independent reports that while the secretary of PINE, Umar Musa Gulani, claimed that the agency spent a whopping sum of N203million to clear taipa grass in Yobe state, stakeholders from the state led by the state’s commissioner for information, Alhaji Mohammed Lamin, disputed his claim, saying ‘no taipa grass was cleared in the state by any federal government agency.

Another claim by Gulani on the clearing of invasive plants species around river banks in the state at N253million by PINE was equally countered by the commissioner and other stakeholders from the state in addition to the N422.5million he claimed was spent on provision of temporary shelter (tents) to small families in the state.

Also dismissed was the claim by the presidential initiative that it had spent millions of naira on the renovation of about 18 schools completely wiped out by the Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe.

The commissioner, said only three schools have been renovated in the state by agencies outside the state, to which the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) have been directed by the governor to identify.

The findings displeased the lawmakers who directed Gulani to forward to them all documents, including photographs of claimed executed contracts, within one week.

The senators queried why a paltry sum of N2million was spent by the agency to feed the IDPs and faulted the donation of N50million to a non-governmental organisation as clearly stated in their statement of account.

A member of the committee, Senator Theodore Orji said: “The affected states said they were not aware of all the contracts executed by PINE; you people just decided to make money and that is why you decided to donate N50million for a conference organised by an NGO.”

Also speaking, Senator Ben Bruce, said when the committee visited some of IDP camps, many women cried out for provision of sanitary pads which he said could have been well taken care of if the N2.5billion given to PINE out of the budgeted N5billion, was well utilised.

In another development, the Senate has revealed that it will hold confirmation hearing over the appointment of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) boss Ibrahim Magu.

Deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu confirmed during plenary in the upper house of legislature on Wednesday, December 7 that the confirmation hearing for Magu will be held on Thursday, December 8.

The confirmation of Magu, when carried out tomorrow, comes over a year after he was installed in acting capacity by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

PoliticsJUST IN: Shiite Islamic Group Assassinated Muslim Clerics, Attacked Emir Of Zari by clara472(op): 7:44pm On Dec 07, 2016
https://nigerianewstoday.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Shiites-protest-452x437.png

Just days after the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria was declared a terrorist group by the Kaduna state government, more revelations have emerged about the activities of its members led by Ibraheem El-Zakzaky who is still in detention.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has revealed that the group actually carried out the assassination of some Islamic clerics and attacked the Emir of Zaria, Shehu Idris.Shiite members clashed several times with security operatives

Before the group clashed with the Nigerian Army, it reportedly held Zaria almost under control with the government accusing its leader of creating another country inside Nigeria.

In a statement titled: ‘MURIC is neither pro-Shiite nor anti-Rufai’, issued on Wednesday, December 7, Ishaq Akintola, the director of the Islamic rights group, said: “Well-meaning Nigerians, particularly from the north where the impact of the group has been felt most, have sincerely intervened and thrown more light on the activities and status of the IMN.

“Fresh information has revealed IMN’s attack on the Emir of Zaria, its alleged involvement in the assassination of some Muslim clerics, its lack of respect for constituted authority, its posturing as a government within a government, its alleged possession of arms, etc.

“In the face of these fresh facts, we are obliged to incorporate the opinions of our members who are up-North. This is necessary in order to carry them along. Who feels it knows it. Those who live very close to the IMN must know IMN better.

“Even while we are not holding brief for the authors of the allegations, MURIC wishes to state clearly, categorically and unequivocally that at no point in time had we been pro-Shiite.

“Neither do we share any doctrinal identity with IMN. Our interest lies in the maintenance of peace in the Nigerian society and the need to avoid creating another monster like Boko Haram.

“MURIC is as worried as every other Islamic organization about the doctrinal differences and heretic inclinations of Shiism.

“But sectarian differences are not limited to Islam. Above all, we are gravely concerned about the self-imposed isolationist disposition of IMN in relation with mainstream Islam in Nigeria.

“We are equally nonplussed by the group’s refusal to recognize officially installed leaders. These are big and questionable minuses for IMN.

“In the light of the above, we affirm that MURIC remains committed to the goals and aspirations of mainstream Islamdom which has been pursuing peaceful coexistence, neighbourliness, tolerance, love, forgiveness and, above all, sacrifice for our great country, Nigeria under the umbrella of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).”

Daily Post reports that MURIC urged the Shiite group members to retrace their footsteps in character and doctrine.
group, IMN, has been outlawed
MURIC added that the IMN needs better image laundering in Kaduna state and the north in general.”

Advising that efforts must be made to avoid turning IMN into another terror machine like the Boko Haram, Akintola said: “Nonetheless, we stand by our word of caution. Everything possible must be done to avoid turning IMN into another terror machine.

“What we need in Nigeria to get out of the current recession is peace. We also need peace for economic growth and political stability. We cannot afford another Boko Haram.

“As we round up, we appeal to Governor El-Rufai to ignore IMN’s unnecessary verbal war against his administration, avoid further bloody crackdown on the group and concentrate on the good work he has been doing in governance.

“We call on the Federal Government to investigate the serious allegation of possession of arms leveled against IMN. This will rest the controversy surrounding the labeling of IMN as an insurgent group once and for all.”

Following the successful conclusion of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA Local Government primaries election which held on 29th October, 2016 in which Dr. Eme Iro Eme emerged winner, it has come to our notice that a certain Don Emeka Emeri is currently parading himself as the APGA candidate for the upcoming 17th December, 2016 Local Government Elections.

For avoidance of doubt, the authentic APGA candidate for the December Ohafia LGA election is Dr. Eme Iro Eme having polled the highest number of votes in the primaries. He has also been recognized by both the state chapter of the party as well as Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSEC).

We therefore use this medium to warn the general public and the good people of Ohafia in particular that anybody associating or dealing with Don Emeka Emeri (who came 4th in the primaries) is doing so completely at his/her on risk.

Finally, we the concerned Ohafia youths have decided to publicly state that we stand on the side of justice and progress and will not tolerate any crooked attempt by any unpopular and corrupt person or group of persons to cause confusion in the party ahead of the December elections.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has stressed the need for Nigeria to develop its own plan capable of effectively addressing the current economic downturn.

Fashola, who spoke while delivering a lecture on “Freedom from Fear, Choices before the New Generation” to mark the 42nd convocation of the University of Benin, Edo State, said that Nigerians must overcome their fears and use their natural resources to create solutions and improve their lives. While addressing the graduating students, he said, “We will not pray our way out of recession; we will plan and produce our way back to prosperity and out of recession and you are the freshest, youngest and most energetic workforce we will have to work with.

“You are the new batteries to power the engine of growth of our country. Your choices must be clear, free from fear, not reckless but driven by analytical thought, questioning and probing and ultimately determined by convictions.”

According to him, young Nigerians must, like their counterparts in developed countries, free their minds from fear, rather than depend solely on spiritual answers to the problems.

PoliticsWe’ll Defeat Corruption – Buhari by clara472(op): 5:59pm On Nov 18, 2016
https://nignews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Muhammadu-buhari..2-1.jpg

President Muhammadu Buhari is sure that his administration will win the anti-corruption war, even though it is tough, grueling, and fighting back vigorously.
The President spoke during a meeting with American Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday on the sidelines of conference on climate change, COP22, in Marrakech, Morocco.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, President Buhari said corrupt people had accumulated a formidable arsenal of illicit wealth, which they were deploying against the government on diverse fronts.

He said: “But it is a war we are determined to win, and which we will win,”

“People of goodwill are behind us, countries like America and many others are with us, and we will surely win.”

The President also updated Secretary Kerry on the war against insurgency in the Northeast and efforts being made to tackle humanitarian problems caused by the insurgency. He said a presidential committee had been launched “under Gen. T.Y Danjuma, a man of high integrity.”

On the unrest in the Niger Delta, which manifests in the sabotage of critical oil and power installations, President Buhari said the engagement process was proceeding apace, adding that it was rather difficult bringing the main protagonists of the insurgency under one umbrella.

He said Nigeria was happy with American support on various fronts, assuring that the economic challenges facing the country were being “frontally tackled, and we will overcome them soon”.

Secretary Kerry expressed delight at the many successes of the Buhari administration, pledging continued U.S. support in the bid to overcome security, humanitarian, political and economic challenges.

As the Barack Obama administration exits in January, Kerry said he would love to continue engaging with Nigeria, even in a private capacity.

He described President Buhari as a strong international partner in the battle against violent extremism.

PoliticsWhy We Bought N3.6 Billion Exotic Cars During Recession – Reps by clara472(op): 5:16pm On Nov 18, 2016
https://nignews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/hause-of-senate.jpg

The House of Representatives on Thursday defended its decision to buy exotic cars for its 360 members at a period the country’s economy is in recession.

It said lawmakers must have a means of mobility while carrying out oversight duties over Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government.
The House will spend at least N3.6bn across 24 months to complete payment for the luxury vehicles supplied by the Kaduna-based Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited.

It can be recalled that on Monday the firm had already delivered 28 units of Peugeot 508 series to members in the first batch of 50 cars.

A total of 360 units of the exotic automobile would have been delivered by January 2017.

The Deputy Chairman, Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Jonathan Gaza, while defending the procurement of the cars on Thursday, said that recession would not stop lawmakers from performing their legislative duties.

He argued that in a recession, both the executive and legislative arms of government were expected to work even harder to find urgent solutions to challenges facing the country.

Gaza noted that while working during recession, members were not expected to trek to the premises of the MDAs for oversight duties.

He added, “In a recession, we will all put on our thinking caps. We are working; these are committees’ cars and they are not the personal property of members.

“When you came here today, how did you come? Did you walk down to this place (National Assembly) from your house?

“If a member is going to visit an agency, will he trek there?

“We need materials, computers, stationery, cars; these are all for work.”

Asked to comment on whether the National Assembly would approve Buhari’s bid to take a loan of $29.96bn, Gaza replied that discussions were ongoing between the two sides.

The lawmaker said no conclusions had been reached.

He also declined to speak categorically on whether the government had begun making releases for the constituency projects of lawmakers.

The constituency projects of senators and members are worth N100bn in the 2016 budget of N6.06tn.

The refusal of the government to fund the projects is reported to be one of the sore points in the relationship between Buhari and the National Assembly.

But, when asked a direct question on the issue, Gaza parried it.

“We don’t release money for constituency projects. Our work is to pass the budget and we passed the 2016 budget. It is the responsibility of the executive to release funds for projects.

“Also, the money is not paid into our pockets, we don’t touch it,” he replied.

PoliticsBREAKING: Again, Maiduguri Targeted In Multiple Suicide Attack by clara472(op): 5:07pm On Nov 18, 2016
https://nignews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Boko-Haram-11-300x169.jpg

Three suicide bombers suspected to be Boko Haram members have attempted to hit the Federal High Court in Jidari Polo area of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital on November 18, Friday.

According to Sahara Reporters, the bombers could not do much harm as Nigerian police contingent stationed in a Catholic church nearby killed the attackers made up of a male and two females before they could impose damage to anybody.
The sources noted that one of the bombers, a female took off her suicide vest and ran towards the security operatives with her hands raised and was caught alive.

The attacker then set off her bomb which killed her male partner.

Police officers in the state told journalists that only the suicide bombers died in the attack.

The female bomber on the team who surrendered has been arrested and taken into custody by the Nigerian army.

Before the Nigerian troops recapture Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state was epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency,

Boko Haram has frequently used female and child suicide bombers to mount their attacks, particularly in the past year, as a Nigerian and regional military crackdown has stripped the group of the territory it once held.

https://nignews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/bola-tinubu.jpg

Top candidate in the November 26, Ondo election have moved quickly to finalize plans in a bid to succeed Olusegun Mimiko as the next governor of the state.

According to report on This Day, some of the top candidates in the upcoming election, have intensified horse trading and power-sharing to shore up support for their aspirations, 8 days to the electoral contest.
It was gathered that former Lagos state governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has sealed an alleged power sharing deal with the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Olusola Oke, with Governor Rauf Aregbesola allegedly in the know.

This was disclosed by a source who claimed that Oke has agreed to concede the following position should he become the next governor of Ondo state. They are; Secretary to the State Government (SSG), chairmanship of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Commissioners for Finance, Works, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Health and headship of the Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue.

Others include six caretaker committee chairmanship positions, that is, two per senatorial district as well as four special advisers.

The source added: “You know that the circumstances that led us to the AD are peculiar. At first, we wanted Action Alliance but when the national leader suggested that we needed to test the ground with AD in lieu of the zone’s interest ahead of 2019, we had no choice than to accept the AD proposal.

“But what I just told you is not abnormal in politics especially when you view it from the prism of the need to cut down the APC candidate. I can assure you that the arrangement will work perfectly well and we will have no problem about that.”

However, Kolawole Olabisi, the chairman of the media and publicity of Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation, immediately dismissed the arrangement, describing it as “part of the hallucination of the opposition faced with the stark reality of their imminent defeat in the governorship election.

“Asiwaju Tinubu and Aregbesola are not members of the AD, thus, its stands reason on its head that some people could go to town to say that they are the ones sponsoring Oke.

“This fly in the ointment tactics will fail because it is mere political propaganda that will not thrive as the people cannot be fooled by such tales by moonlight stuffs.

“The AD governed this state between 1999 and 2003, and given the unprecedented performance it made during its tenure of office, most of which have sadly been reversed over the years, the party, under Olusola Oke, is set to bring back the good old days of life abundance, of hope for a brighter future for the people of Ondo state and that is why the AD is the party to beat.”

In the same vein, aggrieved incumbent governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is reported to be holding talks with Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mimiko and his preferred choice, Prof. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), have been having a running legal battle with businessman Jimoh Ibrahim over the ticket of the PDP. Sources claim that the governor told the PDP supporters not to join the AD if the legal fireworks did not favour Jegede before the November 26 governorship election.

It was gathered that in order to firm up the arrangement, Mimiko held a preliminary meeting with the chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha on Tuesday, November 15. The meeting, which had the APC candidate, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), in attendance, took place at the Akure Airport.

A source close to the Ondo state governor told This Day that although no firm commitment was reached, Mimiko assured the duo of Okorocha and Akeredolu that if after the court processes Jegede did not fly, he would deploy his forces to back the APC candidate.

The source said: “It is true they met but not as people are speculating that Governor has already committed himself to the Akeredolu project. We are still confident we will win the mandate back. But if at the end of the day because of lack of time it happens that Jegede cannot fly, we have been told what to do.

“The governor and even those of us supporting Jegede believe that it is an insult for Tinubu to come from Lagos and install Iroko’s successor. It is an aberration we will fight, so rather than allow that, Iroko will be the one to swing support for Akeredolu to win because Ondo state belongs to us.”
