The fight against cancer, an incurable ailment that is currently ravaging the whole world may be nearing its end as a product by a Nigerian phytho-medicinal researcher, Ben Amodu, in association with Halamin Herbal Centre here in Nigeria may have finally found the cure. The work and imminent breakthrough was revealed by Syntia Kwende and Momoh Yakubu to show that cancer, the dreadful disease would soon succumb to the drug combination coming from the Herbal Centre.

Amodu, a pharmacist, recently revealed that the result is that of: “Anti-proliferative and Cytotoxic Evaluation of Herbal Supplement SAABFAT6 on HT29 Colorectal Adenocarcinoma Cells." A lead paper delivered by Yakubu Momoh on the drug at the Boston Conference, USA attracted over 1600 scientists.

The Ondo state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi has set up a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the deputy governor, Mr Alli Olanusi. This follows the directive of the Ondo State House of Assembly to the Chief Judge to set up the panel.

The panel which has been inaugurated and has Mr Olatunji Stanley Adeniyan as Chairman comprises Mr Aladesanmi Akingbade, Barr.Ademola Ekundayo, Ven. Richard Obafemi, Mr Abraham Kola Mathew, Mr Ibrahim Shodeinde and Mrs Eunice Yinka Obadele. The Ondo state house of assembly had on Wednesday level allegations of gross misconduct financial misappropriation, absenteeism from official duties and allegedly causing political disaffection in the cabinet of the state governor against the deputy governor. The impeachment notice was signed by 20 of the 26 lawmakers.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Thursday, maintained that the continued payment of subsidy on petrol was not sustainable and therefore strongly advocated for it’s complete removal. Subsidy is the difference between the Expected Open Market Price of fuel and the actual or retail price that is paid by consumers for the product at petrol stations as regulated by the Department of Petroleum Resources.

Mr. Timothy Okon, The Group Coordinator, Corporate Strategy and Planning, NNPC, explained that fluctuation in the prices of crude oil often creates fiscal instability in the country which in turn impacts negatively on Nigeria’s revenue. This is because government does not control prices of crude oil. It will be recalled that a massive nationwide protests and industrial actions greeted the announcement of complete withdrawal of subsidy on petrol in January 2012.

A female employee of popular eatery, Sweet Sensation, Oluremi Olayinka on Wednesday bagged 266 years in jail for stealing her employer’s N8 million naira. She was sentenced by Justice A.A Akinyemi of Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta on 34-count charges and she was found guilty in all. She is to serve seven years on each of 30 counts and 14 years on the remaining four charges. However, the sentences are to run concurrently.

The woman at first didn’t appreciate the enormity of her offence so she easily admitted to the crime, but when she was arraigned, she dramatically pleaded not guilty.
