There is no problem if you cannot do the DPC right now... but to make sure it will still be Ok when you are ready.. try and fill the last block of the foundation with mortar concrete before filling with laterite so that you will have a solid german floor later...
I have borrowed some pictures from Aventures and posted below for you to understand what I am talking about.. Even if you cannot do the coping, just make sure you fill the last block with the mortar concrete.

Note: Pictures are compliment of Oga Aventures, and he has copyright to them. Just borrowed for lecture oh.

Hajji M.
As usual, hajji is on point. However, you need to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of both. This will help in your long and short term planning. These have been extensively discussed in this forum but in various threads. God help you in your decision making.

Basically., the Piling is being designed to be suspended but we decided to fill it up
Any reason for this change of mind? I suspect it would have worked but looking at the cost of the decking against the sand filling, it might not be a bad idea to simply sand fill. Kindly correct me if I am wrong. Very tidy job sir.

By the way I can see you are still in the art of taking a walk on ur reinforcements. wink

abdulwastecx:
without a proper soil test no land or foundation can said to be ok for foundation of a building the reason been that soil exhibit lot of complex properties.

soil text may not be recommended for small building project like yours but sufficient depth of atleast 600mm is recommended for a bungalow built with load bearing partition wall.

soil within abuja and its environs has high clay contents, during the raining season, the soil closer to the ground exhibit wetness because the clay doesn't allow the water to sink down into the ground ( creating a fadama kind of ground). During the dry season the soil quickly dries up to give an impression of solid soil or ground for foundation.
Nice input.
PropertiesRe: Advice Needed: Between Pvc, Asbestos And Pop by cleric(m): 6:24am On Jun 05, 2015
PRODUTIM1:
I needed the help of building engineers and those that have the experience to help me choose between using pvc and asbestos in my building project. I have just reach the level where i want to do the ceiling now. Some says pop is the best and is very costly. Also, pvc on the other use to swell up sometimes. Are people still using asbestos? Nairalanders pls your advice is urgently needed here.
Please note that asbestos has a lot of health implications and as such if I were to be you, I would gladly rule it out of my options. As rightly mentioned by others, it all depends on your pocket.

I surely agreed with you that raft foundation will be overkill... I was just asking because of the shallow depth of the foundation..
Thanks.

Oga, I am loyal sir. I knew you couldn't miss that because u are already have a doctorate in view in building construction sir.

I am keenly following this project as it is a deviation from the usual mansions and I love the OP's simplicity. Learning much here also.

How deep is your foundation? Is this going to be a raft foundation of some sort...
Is this line gonna be straight, I don't see any pegging and ropes for demarcations etc.

Hajji M.
Permit me to respond sir. I don't think he'd be needing raft foundation as it will be an overkill. My reason is that this is upland and not prone to flood like most parts of lagos. Thus the ground is very solid ground.
I think the diggers are using their eyes to gauge it and as such I doubt it'll be straight. The OP is in a better position to answer all ur question though.

PropertiesRe: The Making Of The Port Harcourt "Duplex + 4 Flats" by cleric(m): 6:31am On Jun 02, 2015
koman:
Embedded/conduit piping has better appeal or esthetics compared to surface piping but its not the best.
Sewage pipes are made of pvc, and pvc doesn't last forever (not even whitchtech IPS fusion system that promises 50yrs warranty) and so there's need for maintenance in the long run.
Whenever the there's leakage or maintenance issues, you must crack the wall before you can assess the sewage pipe.
This means whenever there's need for maintenance you'll probably the the services of a plumber, a mason, & sometimes a tiler to fix a single problem.

Another problem with this system of piping is during the casting of columns/beams and decking, if the pipes are not properly sealed it might get filled with concrete and no one will notice it,
You get to know about the blockage during final installation and by then its already late so you end up doing surface piping for that particular line.

The question now is what's the best way to fo about this.

The solution is,
During the architectural/structural design, provisions should be made for duct.
The ducts are created with blocks & sewage pipes/supply line run in them.
The ducts have covers (aluminium sun breaker as it's locally called) to cover them up when all the plumbing job has been completed.
Whenever the need for maintenance arises, you open them up, do your servicing and close them back.
The duct covers also adds to the esthetics of the building.
I am totally with you on this one.

Is not Aluminum, I will post more pictures, you can even use the material for POp celling, Cornice and skating
Dominionng:
LIGHT WEIGHT?
Then the answer you seek lies in using POLYSTYRENE/STYROFOAM mould for your parapets. Light and also flexible.
Okay now I know. Always learning on this forum.

Experts in the house, let us know o o. I am interested as well. The cost of aluminum parapet is ridiculous at 20k per square metre yet the weight of casted parapet is a concern.
