Both had a hand in the EcoNet bribery allegation. One fell, the other is still standing. Ibori made sure PDP did not get more votes than neccessary in Delta.
If not for the trial in UK Ibori would have been totally exonerated. In fact, more than 90 count charges relating to corruption and embezzlement against him were struck out for lack of evidence in Nigeria before he was convicted in the UK for same related charges.
As far as selective justice prevails in our country, the country won't make progress.

My major concern in all these happenings in the country is the attitude of the youths. An average youth sees nothing wrong in government officials being corrupt as far they're getting their own share.
If the so-called leaders of tomorrow are comfortable with the current status quo, then it may be fair to say Nigeria is beyond redemption.

Liar. Swear with Amadioha that you are from Delta state

Let me shock you!

I'm from Delta State and also from the same town with Dr Okowa.
In fact, Okowa's ancestral home is a stone throw from mine.
On several occasions at Ika's meeting in Agbor, I've criticised him openly of his association with an exconvict.

No doubt, Ibori did well as a governor but his reckless looting and laundering of our common wealth through his associates totally erased any goodwill associated with him.
We must call a spade a spade if truly we care for the development and progress of our great country.

Bro, it baffles me when even so-called big politicians see absolutely nothing wrong in publicly associating with exconvicts.

Corruption will continue to strive if we keep electing governors who see people like Tinubu, Ibori, Akpabio, Amaechi, Saraki and many others as their godfathers and role models.

Ibori is not greedy like tinubu. He allow others opinion and always allow decision of the people to stand. That is why his political empire did not collapse even while in prison

I'm from Delta State and very much familiar with the political structure in that State.
Even though there's an iota of truth in ur claim, it won't erase the fact that he (Ibori) is an exconvict.
Ideally a Sitting governor would have been ashamed to publicly associate with such high level corrupt figure.
But, Okowa spent more than 2billion tax payers money to welcome him back from prison.
Nigeria's problem is beyond who is greedy and who is not. Our politicians lack the least requirements for political office which is Integrity and accountability.

Associating with a Criminal automatically makes you a crime suspect by default.

Putin is performing well for Russia, but that won't change the fact that he's a DICTATOR.

Irrespective of the development and sophistication of Russia , it can NEVER be as great as the United States.

Unlike the US, Putin has silenced most of the leading opposition figures with one phantom corruption cases or the other in a bid to consolidate power.

Injustice breeds disunity and internal War.

Till Russia becomes truly democratic, it will continue to play second fiddle to the United States.

While it's not out of place for EFCC to investigate known corrupt elements like Saraki; it is clear to discerning minds that EFCC under Magu has out rightly turned partisan.
Many petitions have been submitted to EFCC on several occasions against Oshiomhole and Amaechi, till today EFCC has not deemed it necessary to investigate such petitions.

Nigeria CAN'T make "noticeable" and "sustainable" progress if government officials continue to be stronger than government institutions.

Foreign Affairs / Snakes Force Liberian President George Weah From Office by CliffDike(m): 1:27pm On Apr 19, 2019
Snakes have been found in Liberian President George Weah's office, forcing him to work from his private residence, the BBC has learnt.

Press secretary Smith Toby told the BBC that on Wednesday two black snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, site of the official office.

All staff have been told to stay away until 22 April.

"It's just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building," Mr Toby said.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation," he said.

A FrontPage Africa newspaper video shows workers trying to attack the snakes when they appeared near the building's reception.

"The snakes were never killed," Mr Toby said. "There was a little hole somewhere [through which] they made their way back."

Police and presidential security were seen guarding Mr Weah's residence in the capital Monrovia. A fleet of vehicles including escorts jeeps were parked outside.

Mr Toby said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started to fumigate on Friday.

"That building's been there for years now, and [because of] the drainage system, the possibility of having things like snakes crawling in that building was high," he said.

The president is definitely returning to his official office on Monday after the fumigation whether or not the snakes are found and killed, Mr Toby said.

Crime / Nine-year Old Namibian Girl 'starved' And 'assaulted' For Being A Demon by CliffDike(m): 7:10pm On Apr 06, 2019
NEWS that a nine-year-old girl was starved and continuously assaulted by her own mother for reportedly being a ‘demon’ has left many people in Windhoek’s Havana in shock.

According to family members, the girl is always verbally and physically abused by her mother, who accuses her of being possessed by ‘evil spirits’.

The mother, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her minor child, is now admitted at the psychiatric unit of a local hospital for observation and treatment.

She apparently assaulted the child almost daily to “cast out evil spirits”, allegedly on the instruction of a local pastor who ‘diagnosed’ the nine-year-old as being possessed by demons.

“This abuse has been going on for too long. We could no longer keep quiet about it. This poor child has not eaten since Thurday. When we bring food for her, my aunt throws the food away, saying she cannot feed demons,” one family member explained.

Police community affairs officer, chief inspector Christina van Dunem Fonsech, confirmed that family members had alerted the police about the issue.

“We investigated the matter, and a team from the Women and Men’s Network Against Crime also attended to the case after it was referred to them. I can confirm that we took the child from her mother, and kept her in a safe house until we located the father,” Fonsech said.

“That girl goes through a lot. She would take her daughter along with her to shebeens at 3.00pm. Then, in front of people, she would turn around and ‘beat the demons’ out of her. No child deserves that,” she added.

She said the mother also does not buy food because every month, she deposits N$3 000 into her pastor’s bank account.

“From there onwards, she would put another N$300 into the account whenever he asks for it. I really don’t understand some pastors. He can see that the woman is not well-off, and she is a single mother with a low salary, but he still exploits her like that,” the family member said.

Apostle Jackie van Wyk, the leader of a local church, said the role of the church is to spread the message of love, and not incite violence.

“The church has a big influential responsibility towards families and society at large. As women and men of God, we ought to spread the language of humility. She is our child and as a community, we must protect, care and love her,” Van Wyk said.

Christophine Iyambo, gender coordinator at Lifeline Childline Namibia, called on family members and the public to report cases of this nature.

“Family members, neighbours or community members at large must come to organisations like ours, or to the authorities and report such cases. Also, the father must seek counselling for his nine-year-old daughter because this is a serious matter.

“We cannot expect this child to just get over this issue on her own. She needs help, and this ordeal can make or break her. In most cases, it breaks them mentally,”Iyambo added.

Efforts to contact the girl’s father and the woman’s pastor proved futile.

Family / TB Joshua's 'anointed Song' Drives Kenyan Man To Extramarital Confession by CliffDike(m): 6:36pm On Apr 06, 2019
A Kenyan man made a marriage-wrecking confession after listening to an ‘anointed song’ from Nigerian Prophet TB Joshua.

The song, confessed Micah Terer, propelled him to confess to his wife about a child he had during an extra-marital affair which she knew nothing about.

In Terer’s confession, shared on Emmanuel TV’s testimony website, he stated, “In 2016, I had a child out of wedlock due to the spirit of lust which I struggled with.”

According to Terer, the same ‘spirit’ brought his multi-million business to a point of indebtedness and caused him to ‘almost’ separate from his wife.

“However, Emmanuel TV rescued us,” he continued. “Since we started watching Emmanuel TV, we have been receiving deliverance and breakthrough after breakthrough!”

According to Micah, he had a dream the night after listening to a song recently released by Joshua titled, Sin’s Power Over Me Is Broken’

“After listening to this song, I had a dream that night in which a certain voice told me to always be honest and faithful in all that I do. I later reflected about the dream and realised that there was a secret I had been keeping – the child out of wedlock which my wife wasn’t aware of.”

Terer said he was “propelled by the Spirit of God to tell my wife and ask for forgiveness” and to his amazement, his wife released forgiveness and even agreed to meet the lady in question and care for the child’s welfare.

“I thank God of Prophet TB Joshua for bringing peace and calmness to my family. Indeed, we serve a living God,” the Kenyan concluded.

Since its release, the various versions of Joshua’s “anointed song” have been viewed more than 250,000 times on YouTube.

Family / Nine-year-old Boy ‘marries’ A Six-year-old Girl In Uganda by CliffDike(m): 2:24pm On Apr 05, 2019
Residents of Nakapyata Village, Buyende Town Council, presided over the marriage in one of the most bizarre cultural events in modern history.

In one of the most bizarre cultural events in modern history, the two children ‘got married’ on Monday at Nakapyata Village, Buyende Town Council in Buyende.
The elaborate traditional wedding, complete with snakes “to protect the young couple”, was presided over by villagers.
The boy, a pupil at Buyende Light Primary School and the girl— who were both reportedly born with ‘two teeth’— were given ‘matrimonial hut’ to live in as a couple.

Imagine a three-year-old boy ‘falling in love’ and ‘dating’ someone’s three-month-old baby girl.

And imagine such a boy tying the knot with the ‘love of his life’ on his ninth birthday in an elaborate ‘wedding’ presided over by adults, including parents.

SNAKES

Now stop imagining because such a couple, from Baganda and Basoga tribes, is on its ‘honeymoon’ in Buyende District, eastern Uganda.

The elaborate traditional wedding, complete with snakes “to protect the young couple”, was presided over by village elders.

The boy, a pupil at Buyende Light Primary School and the girl— who were both reportedly born with ‘two teeth’— were given ‘matrimonial hut’ to live in as a couple.

Under the laws of Uganda, it is illegal for persons under the age of 18 to get married or engage in sex.

It is alleged the two children started ‘dating’ when the boy was three years old and the girl was just three months of age.

The development would later galvanise the bond between both families, with Mr Delifazi Mulame, the boy’s father, repeatedly referring to the baby girl as ‘my son’s wife’.

2 TEETH

“My son was born with two teeth and his wife was also born with two teeth,” Mr Mulame said.

“His birth came with overwhelming blessings and his name should unite both Baganda and Basoga [tribes].”

Politics / Politicians, Inec, Security Agents And The Need To Avert Impending Electoral Vi by CliffDike(m): 8:21pm On Jan 24, 2019
POLITICIANS, INEC, SECUIRITY AGENTS AND THE NEED TO AVERT IMPENDING ELECTORAL VIOLENCE

For the past 30 days I’ve observed keenly the electioneering campaigns, day to day political maneuvers and sadly, accusations and counter-accusations by major political players. I’ve also observed cowardly display of vile campaign rhetoric, condemnable coordinated attacks in campaign venues and alarming buildup of “brutally-scary heavy political thugs” in our various streets and public places.
Nigeria for the past 30 days has turned to a rehearsing theatre for ‘war mongering unpatriotic opportunists’ and those that have vowed to destroy our dear country.
Different calibers of high profile weapons now fly around in our domains all in the name of election preparation. Some politicians have even tagged next month election “political showdown/fight” because to them it’s all war, killing, maiming and all sort of condemnable political display.
It is imperative to note that 2011 postelection violence which claimed many innocent lives including lives of serving corps members in the Northern part of the country may be a child’s play if the necessary mechanisms are not fixed in their rightful places.
Many of you would have retorted God forbid to the above statement; that is the right thing to say in the place of negative comments and prediction, because nobody in his or her rightful sense will wish for violence, war or any act that will bring about disruption of peace and unity which we have so much cherished in this country. Notwithstanding, permit me to shock you that violence and breakdown of law and order may be imminent if the current ugly political trends are not urgently nip in the bud.
The First ugly trend which poses great danger to next month’s election is the sudden rise of fake news, hate speeches, inflammatory/inciting remarks and blind political followership.
Fake news is a time bomb that may be as potent as hydrogen bomb; it can cause untold havoc to Nigeria if it’s not urgently checkmated.
Many campaign remarks are now laden with stealthily crafted hate speeches and unwarranted scurrilous languages, but curiously, nobody seems to care. Imagine a so-called political godfather openly charging his followers to go to war against certain rivals if his anointed candidates fail to secure victory at the poll. This is the extent these politicians have gone to threaten the peace and unity of our dear country.
Making inflammatory/inciting statements will only lead to violence and possible loss of innocent lives which invariably will defeat the purpose of the electoral process. Politicians must be made to account for their statements both online, offline and in their various campaign venues. And all those caught peddling fake news and hate speeches should be made to face the full wrath of the law.
As we draw closer to the election I urge politicians to be mindful of their utterances as such are major catalyst to electoral violence.
Apart from politicians, the election umpire, INEC, must as a matter of urgency take pragmatic steps towards addressing the observations of many well-meaning Nigerians, including opposition parties and retreat from their ‘not so independent’ stands barely 3weeks to the general election. The electoral appointments from INEC leadership are also condemnable and calls for serious concern. If not, how do you explain the appointment of a controversial figure to an important position at the electoral collation center?
For a violence free election, INEC should not only be thought to be independent, fair and impartial they must show strictly they are independent both in their appointments and planning for Nigerians to repose confidence in them, after all, what is not shown is not known.
INEC should demonstrate utmost openness and convincing willingness to conduct thorough, all encompassing, free, fair, credible and generally acceptable election.
Gone are the days were “unpatriotic powerful few” would hold the country to ransom by dictating where to vote, who to vote and how to vote; Nigerians are wiser now. All votes should not seem to count, all votes must count.
The security forces especially Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, Department of State Security and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have a big role to play in ensuring peace, before, during and after the election. They must demonstrate total disinterestedness and ensure the electorates exercise their inalienable franchise without fear of intimidation and undue harassment. Also adequate arrangement must be made to actively forestall any break down of law and order in all the polling units and in any part of the country.
Security agents must jettison all partisan appeal and stick strictly to their rules of engagement.
Another category of people who have important role to play in forestalling imminent electoral violence are the political parties. The ruling APC should allow the electorates to decide their fate instead of resulting to self-help as demonstrated in their predictable harassment of powerful opposition figures and their allies. The level of desperation so far witnessed from APC and their campaign of lies and ceaseless propaganda are capable of not only hitting up the polity but gearing Nigeria toward untold havoc and avoidable anarchy.
Planning to influence the ballot through all forms of rigging (vote buying, snatching of ballot boxes, and outright manipulation of results) and use of security agents to intimidate and harass legitimate opposition voters will strongly cause ‘avoidable’ breakdown of law and order and it will be sternly resisted.
The ruling party should realize that no party has monopoly of violence. For peace to reign and to forestall electoral violence, equal playing ground must be created for all contestants for the electorates to determine their fate.
The leading opposition party (PDP) should also be heuristic and realistic in their approach. Just like the APC, displaying high level of desperation by resulting to propaganda and unsubstantiated allegation(s) against the ruling party is capable of fueling the already tensed atmosphere.
The PDP must realize that being the major opposition party do not in any way equate automatically to electoral victory. They should allow INEC and security agents to perform their lawful duties and dissuade from their unacceptable and condemnable tactics of undue insinuation and destructive criticism.
Nigeria is our country; we must strive continually to ensure unconditional peace reign supreme, before, during and after the election.
Politicians irrespective of how highly placed should realize that assuming power on the sacrifices of innocent lives will have a ‘macabre’ price payable here or in the world beyond. All actions and inactions are seeds which surely will germinate to yield its fruits and bring its own harvest in due season.
Nigerian politicians must take election as the beautiful game of football and not a do or die contest. Like football and like other competitions a winner and a looser must emerge at the end of the game. If you’re at the winning side be magnanimous in victory and if you’re at the ‘unpalatable’ side take it as the bitter pill of sportsmanship. There is always a second chance for those who dare to be patient and patriotic!
Resulting to violence, maiming and killing of innocent citizens should not be an option irrespective of the outcome.
We all must remain united and law abiding for the better development of our dear country. Election will come and go but we must unite to grow. We can’t afford to destroy the country because of election. We have just one country we can call our own!
GOD BLESS THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
