mekussays:Unfortunately when you leave Nigeria, your eyes would be opened and you would find out that all that glitters is not gold. I remember asking some of my friends when i came to the uk why they would go home and spray money they don't have(giving the impression that everything is rosy here) while they are doing menial jobs and living in one rooms or houses they have to pay mortgages for many years before they own. My advice to any Nigerian is simple UK will be a great place to live if you live in poverty or are struggling to survive (in terms of you can't have 3 meals a day). If you have a job and live a decent life, you are better off. I usually feel very bad when i go into clubs and i use the toilet and all i see are Nigerians cleaning the toilets and sitting there. Having said that i do share your sentiments mekussays, i believe that these embezzling , corrupt , greedy , conniving politicians should be tied to the stick and shot (Rawlings style) cos what they are doing to Nigerians is equivalent to modern day slavery (with no physical chains involved) |
Amy its all up to you, if you say that your husband's dad is a wealthy political man, then u would probably live a better quality of life (QOL) in Nigeria than here in the UK however, you would live a lower Standard of Life (SOL) in Nigeria. its better taking advice, from those who have lived in Nigeria -> then lived in UK --> Then back to Nigeria. Rather than someone looking for any chance to leave Nigeria and thinks UK is a dream country. I have noticed that many people who have stayed here for a long while would never encourage someone going back to Nigeria even when they are suffering and smiling (They mostly have this mentality/picture of Nigeria in the 80s/90s. For those that say they call them oyibo, while in Naija in the markets people call me oyibo even when am black (cos am a bit light), its nothing derogatory or insulting. No one will ever pick on your kid for being Oyibo. In terms of education, place your kids in one of the best secondary schools, when it comes to university, they are best doing it abroad.(or in private uni in Nigeria and masters abroad) Someone mentioned that teen pregnancies are in Nigeria, but what they failed to mention is that the UK ratio to that of Nigeria is about 500:1 I haven't even mentioned the heavy drinking and sleeping around.(tue, thurs, sat nights out) Its funny when a Nigerian parent is migrating with the kids abroad, all these funny topics about missing friends , very cold weather , don't come up; but when its the other way people come up with million of excuses Granted, you would never be guaranteed 24hr light, but i guess we would love to have kids who quickly adjust to any change in the environment, than those who moan about it Its unfortunate that you can contemplate breaking a relationship of many years just because of a move, even though he has stayed these many years with you in uk The last time i checked, Nigeria doesn't kill kids. Before i wrap up, i do remember that one of the directors of firstbank (she used to head the HR) is not Nigerian but she and her kids adjusted and they are doing well. Its all about how you see the move, as the saying goes, some see a half glass as half empty and another as half full. There will be challenges, just like anywhere else, you just deal with them |

muyoto to put in simple words, the way a gateman thinks is totally differrent from the way the Oga thinks. |
That's where the ignorance i mentioned earlier comes about. If people break that ceiling of poverty and are educated, they would understand that its not all about producing kids, but most importantly being able to sustain and train them. |
Orinkila, please don't bring God into this, don't know why you would call human beings created by God as Dogs. Has it occurred to you that poverty and ignorance is one of the major reasons why poor people give birth to so many kids. As a rich man, you can afford to buy condoms and use any form of contraceptives, but any money a poor man gets is into taking care of himself and family, God bless him if his wife is very fertile. I think many people marry cos they have this feeling that they need someone to complete them. I did remember some years ago, my colleagues were all getting married and i was like "what the heck, are these guys all drinking from the same cup?" and when i was asked when am getting married, i would just laugh cos it never crosses my mind, but i do think am getting ready to marry cos i just find myself thinking about it for no reason. So I know it won't be long, all i need is to wait till i see the compatible one. While i wait, i would just enjoy being single. |
u have no contacts up |

The problem with Nigerians is that we are so docile, and don't know the implication of what these crazy politicians are doing to our country. They gather all the money they can, and lodge it with foreign banks, these same banks use this money to develop their economy and rub it in our face in the name of aids and loans. God save us. |
Ok guys ; Helppppppppppppppp, |
I knew we were being "short-changed" in this country, but never knew it was this bad |
Can you guess the biggest export of britain to Nigeria? ? ? Petroleum Products, am very sure many people couldn't have guessed that right. We export crude oil to these countries and yet they export the refined ones back to us Is this not modern slavery, Robbing Peter and paying Paul. (Bribing a few to get their way and placing this country in perpetual poverty). And i am seriously hoping that we don't export crude oil to them and they export back the refined to us and still make a profit off it. This is so pathetic, The earlier we all put up a thinking cap and find solutions to this corruption in high places especially these politicians, the better off our kids will be. http://www.dailytimes.com.ng/article/sanusi-backs-fuel-subsidy-removal http://www.dailytimes.com.ng/article/sanusi-backs-fuel-subsidy-removal |
Hello guys, please does anyone know a website that shows the mutual funds in Nigeria, and most importantly their performance over the years. Thanks |

u can try to advertise this on facebook. Search for the group called "Lagos Buy or Sell". you might be lucky to get a buyer |
I would say that having worked in a Bank and had a close boss whose wife also worked in a bank; it is probably not a good idea for a woman to work in a Bank located in Lagos Islands especially. Its so stressful and keeping up would be so difficult. If i end up marrying a banker, then there has to be an agreement that in the next 5 years, she would have to look for another sector that would enable her have the time to have a big impact on the kids. What some people don't understand is that in schools, not only teachers teach kids, but also their peers. Unfortunately, a kid is more likely to pick up what his peers are doing than what the teachers are saying. If you are unlucky that the kids best friend comes from a bad home or the friends family values is nothing to write home about, then your in trouble (I remember as a kid being drawn to the wrong gangs , you wouldn't want to know things i did as one, but my mum will keep tabs of all my friends and would tell me not to be in company of some of them). |
I have never really seen something stupid as this topic. Starve your husband Sex?? Its so funny when a lady is dating a man , she would be very wary of introducing him to her girlfriends :- I remember those days of "Hostel C" in Uni. Its funny that after marriage, they think one way of scoring points is to use sex as a weapon. knowing fully well that all a man needs to do is to sight a hot lady and these days women don't care if a man is married before opening their legs and a woman in her right senses would decide to starve the husband of freely available sex and think she would wind up the winner in this row. I hear some women say that if you starve the guy for a while and he sleeps with another woman , that he doesn't love you ; I think this is a big lie you guys tell yourself, because a man doesn't need to have feelings for a girl (or even love her) to have sex , while in the case of a woman, she would need an emotional connection to do so. Well for those who love this weapon, when you reap the rewards of your labor, do understand that you did sow a seed. And for scientists, to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction |
ojubi:Before you start criticizing crap, go to the news source and read through. You've never been to an obodo oyibo university, how do you then know that they pass by cheating. I have been to one and I can tell you that Oyibo universities are far better than the Nigerian ones and its very rare before a cheat can scale through the academic system. Does this mean that a foreign Uni student is better than the Local ones ?? My answer is no, if a local student is given the same opportunity and uni facilities as his Oyibo counterpart, he/she would do very well, After all, was it not we Nigerians, Indians and Chinese that were topping the class (excuse my grammar) during the Masters Programme |
My advice is this, when it comes to marriage, you use your head and not your heart. Many people have toed the " I love you " Path and have crashed. As a Nigerian living abroad, you should be aware that when a white lady is in love with you, she is totally in-love with you, but once she falls out with you, she tells you she is no more in love and walks (Nothing like lets work hard to re-kindle the love). Most of them think that love is a feeling and they don't know that great relationships are made when both parties work hard to make it work. You also need to look at her parents relationship, study it and be sure you can live like them cos most times the daughter would emulate her mum character-wise. Also ask yourself if you are willing to live abroad the rest of your life. When someone says you should marry someone who your compatible with, it means you should marry someone who has the same core common values with you. e.g if you are someone who believes that divorce is not an option, and you mary someone who doesn't believe that, then at one point or the other the marriage would crash. |
I hardly reply to posts, but most times i read a thread Mrs Chima is always there derailing threads with her mumbo-jumbo ramblings . Please Seun can't you just ban her IP, am very sure you would be doing her husband and Nairaland a great service Always claiming she is an American (American visa she got through the back door) even when we know from her posts that she is a thorough bred market woman. Sometimes I wonder where she was exported from (For the first time America really did us a great service) Just a simple advise for you "a wise man/woman is one who keeps quiet when he/she has nothing to say" Seun if your scared of the freedom of speech rights please create a thread where people vote for users that they need banned (The last i checked we are democratic). And please ban the IP, there are many Cats with 9 lives on this forum. For christ sake, we haven't even answered the Ops question. She is not interested in you deciphering if he is a fraud or not, there are many threads she can learn that from. she just wants to understand the culture and the way her boyfriend thinks, so that they can have a peaceful/fulfilling relationship |

The site is going to be dynamic and it would give users access to edit and delete their contents. The site would have a database and would have many pages. Please if you can do this please send a mail to peclint@gmail.com Thanks |
If you ask me if Sanusi"s appointment was political, i would say yes of course; there are so many Nigerians that could have held that position, I don't understand your stress of him being from a Royal family. Probably when next you come back, you work hard to end up in one. @poster You just quoted your reference from wikipedia , that tells me you are not a serious individual. Only an uneducated individual would take you seriously knowing fully well that wikipedia can be edited by any tom, dick +harry |
@poster, Sanusi is not feudal, he is just radical, he saw things as it were; if you ask me if all his judgements are right, my answer to that is a capital NO, he is not god. Anyone who worked in the head office then, would tell you that there were 2 Executive directors that you must prepare properly before approaching them and sanusi was one of them. |
@poster, you also said he when he resigned from first Bank his intention was to go and teach in the university; I wonder if you have now become a mind reader or intention reader. Sanusi never resigned from being FBNs MD until he knew was going to be the CBN governor. There was a rumour then he would be the CBN governor, it didn't come as a surprise. People might be wondering why am defending sanusi, but it is high time we learn to investigate every garbage anyone spills out in the name of news. I was a First Bank Staff when all these politics were playing out. Then again, you would ask me, did i know sanusi was going to go after those banks, my answer is yes, because that was the radical sanusi we knew. Most people in the banking industry knew those banks were cooking figures. What beats my imagination is how someone would come out and say his intention after he resigned was to be a university lecturer; When this is the same man that brought out his 4 year plan of FBN being ranked amongst top African banks and fired upto 4 top management staff on his first Top management meeting. Before you ask me how i got my data, i was working in the head office then and was one floor above sanusi |
@poster, when next your posting stuffs, do your research properly, and always say its your opinion, I wonder how people keep posting garbage as if it were the truth. You mentioned that sanusi's commercial banking was uneventful; were you expecting him to fly a helicopter and do some commando events to know that his doing his job. Sanusi didn't stay up to 1yr as first banks MD (and ask any fbn staff then, the guy shook the bank, the guy fired many top management and gave many of them yellow cards). As far as he was concerned, if you couldn't give him results, then you shouldn't be there. How many people know the executive directors of banks, all we know are the MDs, so how do you know if he was eventful in his position by summarizing a less than a year MD position with loads of years he worked in the bank |
Saw this and decided to share this with you guys, even though the black woman has made mistakes, we need to understand where she is coming from and what she has been through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3tMpXLK6Ew I hope that helps |
