Family / Re: Can One Split His/her Tithe For Personal Reasons? by clintwine(m): 8:32pm On Sep 07, 2023
Interesting facts on tithing

Numbers 18:21 (NIV):

"I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting."

Deuteronomy 14:22-23 (NIV):

"Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine, and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always."

Deuteronomy 14
27And you shall not neglect the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.

There is a reason the 10% was meant for the Levites (because he has no portion or inheritance with you) It's up to you to research why they do not have an inheritance and how this ties to why they receive this 10%, then you have to ask yourself if your pastors are truly levites literally or symbolically.

Deuteronomy 14
28 “At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns. 29And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

Deuteronomy 26:12 (ESV)
“When you have finished paying all the tithe of your produce in the third year, which is the year of tithing, giving it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they may eat within your towns and be filled

Have you seen any parish/church practising the above as stated in the bible ??

Unfortunately for a lot of us Christians, we are locked into this perception that our spiritual Daddy's cannot be wrong, forgetting that even our birth Daddy's make mistakes all the time.

In churches, usually, only the below verses are quoted

Malachi 3:8-10 (NIV):

"Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, 'How are we robbing you?' In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.'"

My personal submission is that you would rob God if you were not paying your tithe in the Old testament as it was mandated as an inheritance for the Levites, but in the new testament it is no more a mandate.

As for me, I pay my tithes because I key into the Old Testament covenant on it and because it helps to run the House of God. Once a working Pastor sees this as his cashcow, then the purpose is defeated, I will just pay mine into a different church that actually uses it to maintain the house of God and does a lot of charitable stuffs for the community

Jewessgratitud3:
Is it right to split your tithe to different parishes if you don't want your parish to know how much you're earning? Will it still cumulate as tithe?

Is this a wrong or deceptive move?
.

I had this same conversation with some spirit/word filled brothers in my Uni fellowship some 20 years ago, and what I will say to you, is what I said to them and I have kept to it.

1. The bible says bring your tithe into the house of God. The House of God is not a denomination. They argued something along the line about you having a spiritual father and under a covering of a ministry. There is nothing like that, It is Men making themselves mini-gods and attaching things to themselves. One can be sent to shepherd a few, but there is no where about paying tithe to a shepherd because you are under their covering.

2. There is no where in the bible where the House of God was tasked to keep records of what people were paying as tithe, this is something that was brought into the church by men of God for accounting purposes.Unfortunately, they have abused this by favouriting the big man and using this to determine if their member receives help or not. God doesn't deal with men accounts, God sees your heart. It is a covenant between God and You and not the parish or pastor. Put your money in a brown envelop, talk to God via prayer that this is your tithe, and put it into the offering basket

3. As long as you pay your tithe into the house of God, you are fine.

I have been doing this for many years, I can be going to a church because it is closer to me or I like it, but walk into another church who I feel need the money on a sunday and drop my tithe there.

4. To the controversial question some have been asking -- Should I pay Tithe
-- Tithing is an Old testament doctrine, you would not see it anywhere in the new testament -- Have you asked yourself why we don't have it in the new testament. There are many things that were done in the Old Testament that we do not do anymore in the new testament.
Jesus never spoke about tithing but spoke about giving and generosity

Having said that, there is a blessing attached to Tithing (like sowing and reaping), If you follow it faithfully, there is a reward for it.

Then you can work your way to Javascript.

MT:

The bolded is the part that I always find strange; I am sorry but you are consciously misrepresenting the facts and exagerrating your own financial position. Stop telling people how much you earn in Naira. State it in pounds sterling, and tell us your expenditure. You are not earning in GBP and spending in Naira. It is quite misleading. Then we see how much you have left after said and done. I live in the UK for many years. I am a Software Solution Architect, after working many years a Senior Developer. I am working remotely for 2 UK companies with daily pay of over 300GBP per day for EACH. But one decision I made was, I relocated to Nigeria. I am enjoying the two worlds. Making money in the UK while living cheaply in naija.

Do not get me wrong. It is not a bad thing to relocate but think, plan and strategise.

UK is expensive and not everyone will be in IT.

@OP Listen to this Guy here and @MT.

stop listening to people that just migrated and think it is all rosy until the excitement clears.

I have lived in the UK for over a decade now and I am told my household income is in the top 85%(https://ifs.org.uk/tools_and_resources/where_do_you_fit_in) and I don't spend anyhow.
If I am in the top 85% and it's not that easy, I sometimes imagine what it is like for others.

Forget the enormous amount they tell you that you will be paid.
take away your tax first
(https://listentotaxman.com/) this is the real money that you have.

Divide your net income by 2 as half is most likely going to renting a house
Then you start taking out the other billings.

In your situation with 4 kids, except if they are in their teens, that is recipe for disaster.
The amount of stress you would be under and your wife would be under -- this causes a lot of rift in marriages
The top cause of divorce is not Adultery (https://www.howellslegal.co.uk/news/post/What-is-the-Most-Common-Reason-for-Divorce), they say it is unreasonable behavior, my brother money is the center of it all. when you can't provide as you have been doing, you become frustrated, the woman is frustrated and before you know it, everything goes downhill.

Oh lest I forget, why would a woman want to be suffering with you when with 4 kids she can claim single mother and the government will supply her needs.

If you were young, single or married with 1 child, I would have said come over but with 4 kids, please don't.

Instead, have savings, invest with your money, and save towards having your kids do Masters abroad.

@OP I didn't want to contribute, but I hope you don't make the biggest mistake of your life.

I saw someone saying Nigerians are debtors and they crying about bills why the whites don't. The confidence in the ignorance is alarming.

The whole western society is built on debt.
In the UK here, the phone you own, car you own, house you own are all on credit, they are not yours.

You have to ask yourself some very important questions
At the moment with your salary does it give you a good Standard of Living, don't loose it searching for something that does not exist.

You have 4 kids, you would need childcare, have you googled how much it cost per child. You can't leave them in the house thinking they can manage themselves. The day the government finds out, they will take all of them from you. Let me tell you straight off, except if your wife earns a high income, she would have to stay home. By the time you calculate the childcare cost, most times it doesn't make financial sense to pay for it.

Now you have 4 kids, definitely you want a 2 bed house, not the 2 bed house with a store room they call a single bed room and a small sized room that they call standard double bed.
Google rightmove and zoopla that would give you an idea of the house prices

I used to write erotic poetry in my younger years. That particular evening I was working on an assignment when I got bored so I took one of my school books and scribbled my sinful thoughts in it with the hope of tearing out the page later. Somehow, I ended up forgetting about it.

The next day, our tutor asked us to submit our notebooks for marking. To cut a long story short, the tutor invited me to the front of the class to read out my Shakespeare-standard work as soon as she saw it. I can still remember the sheer look of astonishment and horror on my tutors' faces.
It was embarrassing but in the end, it had its perks cheesy

Politics / Re: Collapse 36 States To 6 Zones, Ekweremadu Tells FG by clintwine(m): 11:35am On Apr 26, 2016
Please my People, How do we start championing this cause of reducing Nigeria to just 6 states
can we the people of Nigeria have a referendum on this

The Nigerian state at large is grossly mismanaged and has a lot of overheads and loop holes resulting in a lot of inefficiencies

The creation of multiple states and local governments are just channels for corruption
I believe that we can become a more efficient state by collapsing the 36 states into the 6 States, based on the Geo-Political zones
This will increase our productivity as a nation

6 states(We can call them all different names) :

North Central
North-Eastern
North-Western
South-Eastern
South-Southern
South-Western

And create a law where each state will have a maximum of 30 districts (total of 180 districts -- with district mayor(head) and a Lawmaker representative)
And grant each state autonomy on loads of things and core issues like Army etc be handled by federal government, this way we have a true Federal government

On who should become Head of state, I am of the opinion that we have a President and a Prime Minister with various roles, and it should be rotational.

Where the President/Prime Minister come from 2 different states and after 8 years (2 tenures) , the next president/prime minister is gotten from another state. (-- This will reduce the high Tribalism and ethnicity problem)

The order of Rotation must also be known, so each state knows when it is their turn to produce the president or prime minister ( Similar to how some Igbo communities select the Kings from villages that make up the community in a rotational way).

The Democrazy as we have it is a sham, it does not favor the Nigerian Populace
I am of the opinion that when you see someone wearing a beautiful dress and u like how it so fits and people comment on it, you don't pick the same dress and try to force it on yourself (it is madness), you go pick what will look good on you and fit you as no 2 sizes fits all.

When Someone with some form of intelligence writes, I read and listen,
but experience have taught me that some people wield this wrongly to cause chaos, just like some do with Religon.

Now the Beauty of IT and science is that we know now, that we can piece out who a person is, their motive, their possible next moves
from their internet activities --- (That would be for another day or you can google these researches ).

Now Below is what Tuniski advised -- favouring devaluing the Naira
Now check after this quote, his previous posts, then you would get the picture

tuniski:

The value of the naira by purchasing power parity is determine by a simple Concept thus; if the cost ccommoditiy A in USA is 3$ and same commodity A in nigeria cost 1000naira, the naira to dollar value is 1$/333naira. QED

Any official control/pegging only ensure poor economic performance and rent seeking. The premium of the naira via control is what is driving inflation.

It is not poor economy if 400naira goes for 1$, no it is not! What is wrong is creating incentives for black-market via subsidy on Forex thereby impeding economic activities.

By this false valuation of naira, we officially are losing about 35% in naira what it should be. If we earn 1bn$ and value it at 197bn naira instead of 320bn, the 123bn subsidy is reflected in cost to manufacturers, inflation to consumers and rent to round trippers. It helps only the round trippers who gain only currency transaction value without economic value backing!

Buhari simply doesn't get! Let himm continue to romance the Yuan thinking two peggers of their currency (China n nigeria) live in isolation of global economy.

Bottom line, the naira is already devalued with the sustained depreciation and the continue insistence by buhari not to yield to reality has created reality in job losses, inflation and overall recession. A govt that mouths diversification on one breath and stifle it On the other promoting dumping and importation!

May God help us.

Now why would Buhari take advice from someone like you
How would devaluing the Naira benefit the Masses we have been doing this, how has it benefited us
You believe that Fayose's module of giving money in the street is good governance, now how does that tally with you being an expert in economy
You and I know that governance is about delivering Infrastructures to give anyone in the society ability to thrive

We need to Wakeup, I am not an APC fan (Infact I am hoping to see Thief-nubu in chains) Neither am I a PDP fan, I am firstly a Nigerian.

Lets work together and give constructive criticism that will build our nation.

Some People don't take the time to read, they just look at headlines and because they have made up their mind that nigeria will fail, they continue with their pattern of self hate.

For these set of people, I will bolden the important statements in this report.
1) Notice the report said the money was witheld not missing
Now while comparing the money being remitted between now when a barrel is less than £35 and when it was more than 3 times its value now
You do the maths

DickDastardly:
A new report on Thursday said despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s attempt at ensuring transparency in the oil sector, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, still withholds billions in oil revenues from the government account.
The report by the Natural Resource Governance Institute, titled “NNPC still holds blank check” said that within the first six months of the Buhari administration, the NNPC withheld over $4.2 billion (about N824.7 billion) out of a total of $6.3 billion (N1.24 trillion) revenues realised from crude oil sales in the second half of 2015.
The withheld revenues represented about 66 per cent of the total revenue – $1.4 billion earnings from Nigeria’s regular crude oil exports for the period; $3.4 billion from domestic crude oil sales, and $1.5 billion from oil sold from the corporation’s upstream subsidiary, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC oil fields.
The report said only $2.1 billion (about N413.7 billion) was transferred to the Federation Account.
The group said the unremitted revenues for the six months was about 14 per cent more than the amount withheld by the corporation under the Goodluck Jonathan administration in the first half of 2015, and about 12 per cent higher than the share withheld in 2013 and 2014.
The report said the figure of unremitted oil revenues in 2015 contrasted sharply with 2005 figures, which showed the NNPC remitted about 68 per cent of its total oil sale earnings to the Federation Account and kept only 32 per cent that year.
The report said while part of the withheld funds was used for servicing Nigeria’s share of the joint venture operating obligations, the NNPC did not fully explain what the other retained revenues from domestic crude and NPDC oil sales were used for.

In general, the report said despite the on-going reforms in the oil sector, the NNPC under the present administration was still retaining a major share of oil sale earnings and spending at will.
Some of the reforms by the Buhari government, the report noted, have cut the number of passive, well connected middlemen that pocketed billions of oil revenues, while the administration has cancelled costly, unbalanced NNPC swap contracts as well as seek more efficient replacements.
The report lamented that recent announcements on NNPC reforms and the latest drafts of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, failed to adequately address how NNPC and the government would share future oil revenues
“Until government establishes a clear, legally enforceable rule governing which revenues NNPC can keep and how they can be spent, oil sector corruption and waste could return to their prior devastating levels once the president (Buhari) leaves, or prices rise,” the report noted.
While encouraging government to push ahead with its reform plans for the oil sector, NRGI stressed the need for NNPC to adopt new financial controls and transparency measures for its subsidiaries, especially bordering on the several billion revenues retained each year from NPDC operations and its oil trading and marketing subsidiaries.
The Institute also called for the immediate replacement of the 445,000 barrels per day crude oil allocation for domestic refining with a fit-for-purpose mechanism for supplies to the country’s four refineries.
“The government should move to curb the corporation’s discretionary, unaccountable use of much-needed public funds. Until the government instates clear rules for NNPC financing, both the controversies and the underlying revenue leakages will persist,” the report said.
Describing the NPDC as one of the Nigerian petroleum sector’s “great black boxes”, the report said some of the oil from the company’s fields went to its strategic alliance partners, two of which were paid in oil for purportedly shouldering the company’s financial obligations.
From the production of an average of 30,000 barrels per day of Okono grade crude during the period, the report said NNPC retained all earnings ( about $12.3 billion over the past decade) from the offshore Oil Mining Lease (OML) 119 owned wholly by NPDC.

unfortunately after reading some of the comments prior to mine, i was so disappointed that now we have a lot of people who irrespective of what buhari does, they would complain, so i am going to post the video where this topic was culled from.
The man wasn't complaining, he was merely stating the facts
And yes he did say that Jonathan's Govt initiated the TSA not his government

It is not necessarily a bad development, its actually a good one and working
It means that Imports are almost halving, now we can look at increasing our exports and boosting our economy with locally made things
It is silly that we were importing toothpicks

we should be looking at 50% reduction in imports and 50% increase in exports
that way we would have a stronger economy and stop depleting the foreign reserves

now that we know the items are being diverted to Cotonou, the government should deploy more custom officers towards that border
and make sure that we get every revenue from legal items coming in from that end
every illegal item should be confiscated and sent to IDP camps and displaced people, then the rest auctioned to families with less than a certain household income

Change means that we have to adjust and make some scarifies for the betterment of our collective tomorrow, nobody said it will be easy
Let us start thinking of what we can export and sell,

Before someone says locally made items are sub-standard,
we said that about Chinese items many years ago, now see how strong they have grown and the quality of items they are producing

YES BRO, WE MAY BE ON SAME PAGE BUT NOT ON SAME LINE earlier, cos you never said "Femi" (PA To Danladi) should be charged to court to prove Danladi links with the said fraud.

More so, EFCC is yet to make statement that Danladi's P.A will be charged to court having made confessional statement that he actually had a deal with the accused (Mr Rashid)
If EFCC had said they will be charging him to court, it would not have generated such reaction as witnessed on this thread.

In all, both of us want justice to be seen to have been done to this case, and every one who have direct or indirect links with such case no matter highly placed should not be spared. with this, we are on same page cheesy

Am yet to read where CCT chairman condemned the action of his P.A, hope he does not want to get the TAFA Balogun treatment where his aides was used as witness against him grin

kudos bro.

ok I agree with most of your suggestions,
but in the real world you don't take someone to court without enough evidence to prove it, it is called waste of public funds.
the person that was caught needs to be charged with evidence
and a watch would be placed on the second, he is sure to make a mistake and he also would be charged to court with the evidence they have

REACTIONS

1) REMITA deduction from Nigeria's Treasury at source leaves room for fraudulent practice, maybe the kind that brought about this controversy.
It is against Nigeria's constitution to deduct Nigeria's money without legislature approval. And then what measures are in place to monitor how much is deducted and when they are deducted? From what we know, it doesn't seem there's any measure in place yet. If there is, the CBN would not have to RECOVER these monies from Systemspecs.

2) Your answer is ambiguous. Please clarify.
Spin doctors say 40% of the 1% belongs to banks. Why did the CBN not ask the bank to refund their own share?

ANSWER

1) I would rather Nigeria continue to fine-tune any system we agree on. Make it transparent. No system is foolproof. It is execution that matters. This one has not been executed properly. If it was, I doubt if anyone would be able to raise thess kind of issues. I mentioned earlier that all systems have teething problems. I was being very diplomatic; all systems have loopholes that can be exploited.

Meanwhile, why is there a problem with Dino Melaye's motion if you postulate that we all can monitor and know where and when mega monies are being stolen?

We have agreed to deploy technology (it seems all of us have accepted Jonathan's Goat and Yam Theory afterall) so let's monitor the execution and fine-tune it.

2) Again, a bad or good idea depends on execution. As you can see. This system if care is not taken (if the loopholes are not blocked now) is opened to stealing of "mega proportion" by any president and his few accolades - what happens if/when we have someone like Abacha as president for instance. As you can see, no one knew what was going on until Melaye raised his motion. And it appears only a few people can tell you what is going on at this moment.

3) Yet again, no system of budgeting is foolproof. Politicians use all manner of semantics to fool people, don't be carried away. When the issues with the so-called zero budgeting start emanating, you won't be in Mars.

Would zero budgeting have prevented Babatunde Fashola from awarding a website contract for N78m or 2nos borehole for N138m? You evaded that.

The TSA we are talking about was not Buharis brain child, It was jonathans, all the deals were agreed in that government. They could not implement or execute it appropriately as he was surrounded with a lot of corrupt people and he was not strong enough to effect it.
we have someone who has the will power to effect it and not scared of what people say

do you know how many MDAs there are , do you have an idea of how many accounts they each have, how can you monitor these?
the best way of monitoring is a single account so all Nigerians can beam their search lights on, but when someone comes up with the idea that this is a method of looting by the government then i can only assume that they gained from the looting and corrupt practices of multiple accounts where someone can keep governments money in fixed accounts to get the interest on it

to your question about the banks, let me give you a common illustration of how banks do business
when you go to buy Jamb forms from banks they get a commission for each sale, that is the percentage they take for that.
hope that helps.

I did work in a bank some years ago, so i have a very good idea of what i am talking about
before you make up your mind about someone spinning a story, investigate it

THIS IS WHAT WE KNOW...

Dino Melaye raised a vital motion on the implementation of TSA.

N25B was alleged to have been paid to the consultants handling the TSA.

At no point did Dino Melaye mention Systemspecs or any company.

The Senate raised a committee to investigate the implementation of TSA.

REMITA we are told is the system for implementing TSA.

CBN days later acknowledged monies were illegally deducted from Nigeria's account.

CBN said monies illegally deducted have been ordered recovered, they said the amount is N8.6bn

CBN said Buhari asked them to call for refund.

Ayo Fayose alleged that Buhari and his party are deducting Nigeria's money to recoup their party's elections "investments".

Ayo Fayose wonders how a single company (or a set of companies - comprising less than 15000 individuals max) would be allowed to deduct 1% of Nigeria's money leaving over 140m other Nigerians with 99%.

Ayo Fayose wonders why the charges can't be negotiated downward to 0.1% (or less).

Ayo Fayose said he won't be party to "looting" Nigeria's treasury.

Systemspecs writes to the president explaining why the money should be returned back to them.

Lai Mohammed denied the amount deducted from Nigeria's treasury and not the deductions.

Lai Mohammed's figure of total revenue collected (N1.2trn) is different from the CBN's (N1.4trn) and different from the senator's allegations (N2.5trn).

QUESTIONS

1) How did Systemspecs, a private company, authorized to deduct money (service charge) directly from Nigeria's treasury?

2) (i) If Systemspecs' share of the deal is 50% of the 1% commission,

(ii) If the revenue collected so far is N1.2trn (according to Lai Mohammed) or N1.4trn (according to the CBN) or N900bn (according to Tonyebacanista)

(iii) If 1% of N1.2trn is N12bn; of N1.4trn is 14bn; of N900bn is N9bn

how did Systemspecs come about the N8.6bn they refunded?

3) If Systemspecs' share so far is the amount it refunded to the CBN (i.e. 50% of 1%) then the total 1% would be N17.2bn, and the total revenue collected would amount to N17.2trn.

4) Why has the CBN not demanded a refund from the banks?

5) If a system is to curb leakages in the system why is it difficult to get accurate figures. Why is the figure changing from one commentator to another.

COMMENTS

From the foregoing, it is clear no one has yet called for the scrapping of TSA.

It is also clear that the implementation of TSA has some serious issues (all new systems do have teething problems.)

It is in the best interest of all the citizens that these issues are resolved and the TSA goes into full swing.

Denying that nothing is amiss or blackmailing the whistle-blowers will further reinforce doubts and entrench insinuations.

FOOD FOR THOUGHTS
For those people disparaging Ayo Fayose;

Would this TSA have prevented Babatunde Fashola from awarding a website contract for N78m or 2nos boreholes for N138m?

I can answer questions 1 and 4 for you,
1) Remita does not go into the treasury to take the money, the money goes through them into the treasury and they collect their charges prior to this, it is a software, takes its commission then remits the remainder (if it does not work in this way as most payment processors do, then they would apply balance reconciliations, then the CBN pays them)

4) The banks employ people to attend to you when you to make a govt transaction , it is a service that needs people trained on how to use the software, the banks charged for all these services , Remita is a software , I don't think it needs billions for maintaineance

I have not had time to go through all the various figures being banded around as money in the TSA,

but i do have 3 questions for you.
1) Would you rather we have a single account TSA ? where all Nigerians can trace every cash and if stolen how it is being stolen OR many accounts used by various government bodies where we have no idea who is stealing and how much

2) If TSA is not a good idea, how do you reckon we deal with stealing on grand scales by civil servants

3)What do you understand by the zero budget system, do you think it is better than what we had and does it combat corruption when coupled with the TSA

In that case, let Femi (P.A to danladi) be charged for that crime, am sure he will provide evidence to link that his friend when he discovered he will be going to jail for an offence he is only running errand for with little benefits.

The point is this, it has been established that "Femi" collected that money, hence why say the case is not substantial and what was the reaction of Danladi to such weighty allegations that his P.A had so admitted.

If such case is brought before him, will he excuse himself as the judge base on morality.

So many posers.

NOw we are on the same page.
Charge the guy that the money was found on, seize all his properties and make sure he goes away for a long time
when people know that fronting is a crime, they will think twice

this news has vindicated gej and has justify the sacking of sanusi lamido.
can u imagine what this thief programmed so he can still be ripping nigeria from his palace.... he shud be probe too cos dis could be a tip of his numerous atrocities.
so tsa actually started during d clueless one regime?
hmm thank God for dino melaye!

Stop twisting it. Sanusi was sacked because he blew the whistle on what the government was doing.
before you guys start throwing stones, apply common sense.
When you buy things online, do you think that the payment gateway/ processors allow the transaction without a fee
the last i checked the processors are charging upwards of 2% for each transaction, that is how they make their money
remita is a software that does something like that.

During GEJ, getting money into the TSA would be likened to sending out a bailiff to retrieve money. The reason this money is now huge is because we have a president that declares it and everyone starts remitting because they know that there would be consequences. When the contract for remitta was given, those guys didn't envision this ever happening because of the level of corruption and lawlessness.

So now CBN has to go back to the drawing board and revise the contract as we now have a working government
